Database size unavailable in Grid Control

On one of the 10g databases that I monitoring through Grid Control, under space summary, its shows the database size as Unavailable. When I open up db console, it does show the size of the database but not under Grid Control. Please help!

Agent is up and running. I was getting Metrics "Current Open Cursors Count" error. After increasing the open_cursor parameter, I got rid of that error, restarted the agent, but still the database size is unavailable.

  • Error - when creating a standby database with EM 10g Grid Control

    Hi,
I am experiencing some problems when I want to create through the EM 10g Grid Control a standby database from a allready existing db. At step 2 when the files should be generated and copied to the other system, I am always getting the error that there isn't enough disk space on the other system. This can't be because there is at least 30GB free and the installer is asking for less than 1GB. I was searching the whole internet for a solution to this issue, but there was just nothing that could help me out with that point...
Has someone an idea at this point? Thanks for helping...
I am working on a Windows 2003 Server - Enterprise Edition for every system (Grid Control, Primary DB and Standby DB).
    Best regards,
    Patrick.

Check that filesystem space using GC under targets>hosts on which you are trying to create standby. Do you have any specific error message from GC ? If GC shows proper size under host filesystem section then there shuld be no such problem. Double chk ur locations too.

  • Oracle 9i Database -- Performance window in Grid Control not data available

    Hi
I have Grid Control 10.2.0.4 on Red Hat and i monitoring some Oracle 9i Instances. When i go to any of these instances to the Performance section, at begininig , ever, not data available in all the graphics.
When i select manual refresh the graphic begin to build information. But if i close the explorer and reopen , all graphics not have any information.
Is the situation normal for all Oracle 9i databases?
The explanation is that Oracle 9i not have AWR ?
    Thanks

You have too few RAM on your machine, even you could successfully create an instance, it's going to slow as hell.
When you run DBCA to create database, instead of actually creating the database you could choose to dump the SQL scripts and files used for database creation to a directory. This way will give you a chance to modify pfile and reduce the SGA parameter. I believe the default SGA of instance created by DBCA is already beyond your RAM limit.

  • Backing up database and archivelogs with grid control.

So I was scheduling a job to backup the entire database and archive logs to an ASM diskgroup.  Well for some reason.... the backup of both the datafiles and archivelog files keep going to my $ORACLE_HOME/db/dbs directory.  I have no clue as I've dropped the job and recreated it and made sure it was going to <diskgroup>. Anyone have any idea what might be happening? I'm using 10.2.0.4 for the database and ASM. My Grid control is also 10.2.0.4.
    Thanks in advance
    Luke

    Grid Control:
Disk Backup Location: I've tried to leave it blank so that it will goto my flash recovery area(Which is on ASM) and I even tried to explicitly state an ASM diskgroup, but both of those fail and start backing up to /dbs directory

  • Monitoring oracle database from OEM 12c grid control

    Hi,
I am using OEM 12c grid control to analysis various server's performance. The application database in oracle database v11g. Is there any problem if i add database on oem to monitor? To be more clear, If it creates any conflict between database's em and oem's em when i want to deploy em agent on database ? Is it necessary to remove database's EM before installing oem agent on it?

  • Error Configuring Database Instance Properties on Grid Control

    Hi All,
My Grid Control is 11.1.0.1.0. I have installed and configured agents on other nodes and the OMS and the monitored Hosts are able to communicate. My problem is when I go to targets/Databases, when I select any database and click configure, I get an error "Error occurred while getting information for the specified target. Possible reasons include: the target doesn't exist; connection to the target failed."
I do not know why I'm getting this error because the agent on the OMS server is running, the agents on the monitored targets are all running and when I check the status, I see the agent is uploading data to OMS. Also When i go to targets/hosts, all the hosts are up.
How can I resolve this problem?
    Thank you.

    Eric S,
Could be a Firewall issue. See http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11857_01/install.111/e16847/firewalls.htm#i1005951
Firewalls Between the Grid Control and a Managed Database Target
When you are using the Grid Control Console to manage a database, you must log in to the database from the Grid Control Console in order to perform certain monitoring and administration tasks. If you are logging in to a database on the other side of a firewall, you will need to configure the firewall to allow Oracle Net firewall proxy access.
Specifically, to perform any administrative activities on the managed database, you must be sure that the firewall is configured to allow the Oracle Management Service to communicate with the database through the Oracle Listener port.
You can obtain the Listener port by reviewing the Listener home page in the Grid Control Console.
You can check if Listener port 1521 (if that's the port you are using) is open by:
    OMS_HOME/bin/tnsping "(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=hostname)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=sid)))"
If the database in a DMZ runs on Windows you may want to check note: Oracle Connections and Firewalls [ID 125021.1]
From the OMs-server you can ping the target server by FQDN and short name?
    Eric

  • Removing database target in EM Grid Control

Under targets/databases there is a button 'remove'
for selected database instance. What does it mean,
just removing the database from EM repository,
when I want no more to manage it by grid,
or will it delete whole database selected like deleting database
    by dbca?

It will only remove DB details from EM repository.

  • Standby database creation with the Grid Control Wizard.

Has anyone had issues with this tool ? I keep getting 'Failed' with the following error on the step 'Restore One Datafile'
and step 'Restore Current Logs' .
SQL> Connected to an idle instance.
    ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
All the other steps 'Succeeded' .
We need to make this wizard work since the customer needs the capability and they are NOT going to do a manual setup.
Thanks for any pertinent assistance in advance .

You want to restore only datafile? then database should be in mount status.

  • Adding Database in OEM Grid Control 11g

    Dear All,
I have install silently oem agent 11g in a solaris system. The installation was successful and agent is up and running.
But the thing is I can't add this client and its database in my OEM Grid Control interface. When I try to add the target it shows the bellow error
    Information
You cannot add a host target from Enterprise Manager Grid Control.
To add a host target, install the Oracle Management Agent on the host computer you want to manage. When the Management Agent begins communicating with the Oracle Management Service, the Management Agent target and the Host target will appear in the list of targets.
My Question is how i can the target's agent can communicate with OMS agent? and How this target can be incorporated?

You install management agents on the host and point the URl to the grid control OMS and it will automatically discover the host and databases
    It is in the documentation.

  • Oracle 10.2 Grid Control – Adding Database residing on different hosts

I used to work with Oracle 9.2 Enterprise Manager. Now I have installed Oracle 10.2.0.2 Grid Control on Windows 2000. I want to do database administrator from Oracle Grid Control for Oracle 9i, Oracle 10.1 and 10.2 databases. I do not want to install any agents on my database servers because they are production servers,
All of I am interested in to have nice user interface of Oracle 10g grid control, so I can do database administration such as adding a database file, looking at database users, sessions etc. I was able to do all of that with Oracle9i enterprise manager. IN Oracle9i EM, one can manually add a database instance if it cannot be discovered using an agent. Is it possible to do that in Oracle 10g grid control?
When I start Grid Control, go to targets tab and then database tab and want to add a database, it asks for host name. When I enter hostname (which is accessible from the network), it says host not found. Is an agent required on the host before Grid Control can recognize it. In Oracle 9i enterprise manager, there was an option to manually add a database (i.e. automatic discovery was not successful), is it possible to do that with Oracle 10g grid control.

Over the years, working with Oracle, I've found tremendous value in reading the docs. You might find similar value doing that too.
The only issue you seem to have is an unwillingness to learn the architecture and concepts behind the product you are trying to install. You get rid of the error by deleting the entry and doing it correctly.
There is no way to drop a brick on your foot and not have it hurt. <g>

  • Creating a new Oracle Database using 10G Grid Control

    Hi
Is it possible to create a new database using the 10g Grid COntrol.

The way to create a database with EM, is by using Provisioning procedures. For instance with the Oracle Clusterware / RAC Provisioning For UNIX, you can provisioning Clusterware, ASM + ASM instance creation and DB Software. Then by provisoning you would create a database. There are also procedures to extend a cluster.
So, provisoning is the way to go!

  • Non Database Column to Grid Control

    Hi,
How do I add a Non database column to a Grid Control which is
based on a Rowset. I want the similar functionality of a
multirow Block in D2K Forms, which is based on a Database query
and to which another item is added which is non Database item
and it is also displayed as any another item in the same
multirow block. The updatable and queryable property for this
    item is set to false.
How do I get similar functionality in JDeveloper using InfoSwing
    GridControl. Thanx in advance.
    --- Ravi
    null

The GridControl does not have built-in support for this
functionality. However, the GridControl source code is provided
so you can extend the control to provide this functionality.
In 3.0, the Oracle Business Components for Java will provide the
ability to create objects that can mix db and non-db attributes.
The GridControl can then be bound to this object to provide the
    functionality you seek.
