Database storage for video, movies and slideshows?
hi all,
i am trying to see if there is software or a database that would let me organize my videos/slideshows/movies.
since i have ported to mac from PC i am seeing the following file types in my "video + slideshow" folder: wmv, pdf, 3gp, avi. mov, mp4 and m4v. my recollection is that these were either downloaded form the internet, created on some PC software or created using Keynote, Aperture or iPhoto.
i am also going to post on the adobe forum as i have purchase the Creative Suites package and if there is an adobe product that does this exceptionally well i would be happy to buy it.

It's the same as adding an iframe, at least in the Mac version. If you want to add other media types, you can, but you'd need to manually enter the code or at least manually set the embed/object parameters. For more info, try googling things like "object embed WMV video" or similar. For instance:

No, it is not a storage solution as if you need to get the things off it you can't. If you deete things from iTunes they'll delete at the next sync. Provided you have backup copie on an external drive or CD/DVD, you could delete the actual file from the Finder leaving the database entry in iTunes - in this way you free space on the laptop but files stay on AppleTV.
An alternative would be to change itunes Preferences (Advanced tab) not to import into the library, then for things you don't want on the Macbook Air, have them on external drive, drag and drop to itunes, sync, then disconnect drive for portable use. Again when the files aren't available they won't be deleted, unless you delete the itunes database reference.

n is faster.
3-What is the best external drive that might fit my need?
Your options are basically small portable drives most of which are USB powered (though may require powered hubs if you have a hub) or larger desktop externals requiring power adapter and more space.
For value the desktop externals give more capacity per pound/dollar, and will also have bigger capacity maximums at a given time (bigger and bigger capacity discs being developed all the time).
Try and work out the capacity/pro

Peronally I like Western Digital, Seagate and Freecom models, but they're all fairly good these days, and even popular brands can fail. I avoid Maxtor and IBM/Hitachi having had failures in the past, but all drives eventually fail.

Yes, you can add your own videos to iTunes, then sync them to your nano, subject to supported max resolution limit and file type. The specs for the 7th gen nano says (I don't know which nano model you have), Video Format Support

(earlier nanos have lower max resolution limits)
So, "HD" video is too high resolution, so iTunes will not sync such videos to the iPod (although they play in iTunes). If you are asking how to set up iTunes to sync videos in general (regardless of source), please post back. -
In the old Mobile me storage I had shared storage for my family and all of our devices. How do I breakup the 55GB across my apple accounts now that iCloud is by device by user? Anyone else have this issue. I am also in need of correcting the storage from my work where I do not have Safari or I can not down load iCould to my desk top.
That storage moves to master account. Since there are no accounts like that in Icloud, people in your family will enjoy complimentary 5 gigs from Apple and they will let you know if they need anymore. You will not be able to manage storage from windows desktop

My iPad says when i try to download a movie that i don't have enough memory, but when I check I have plenty for the movie and more. What can I do? Also, I can't completely sync to iTunes, when i try it waits at waiting for items to copy forever.
Delete some stuff to make room on the device.
iCloud is not local storage and has nothing to do with your situation. -
When you purchase extra cloud storage, does that allow more storage for music, apps, and so forth to be downloaded?
So only documents? it doesnt store pictures, videos, or any of that stuff? or it doesnt store settings to your applications? I just want to know how exactly iCloud can effectively help me with storage because I only have a 16 gb ipod 4s. I have already decided I will not download any music onto it or videos

I am thinking about getting a MacBook Pro. My current computer is very very old and can not be used. I would like to use it for video editing and eventually to use when I go to college. I want to get one of the preset 13 inch MBPs. I do not know which one will be better for my purposes. Raw CPU speed is not the total benchmark of a computer. Look at it this way. A 2.6GHz CPU made today is much faster then a 2.6GHz CPU made just a few years ago, like 3 years ago. the difference between a 2.6 and a 2.9GHz CPU is 3 tens of 1 GHz, 300MHz. The percentage difference is about 8-9 percent (.08-.09). Back when CPUs were listed in MHz, 120, 300, 600, if you have a 300MHz CPU and you replaced it with one that was 300MHz faster that was a Big Jump. You doubled the computing power. Today 300MHz, .3GHz, is next to nothing. Especially for the price jump.
Note that when you make the switch you will either need to update your program, that means Re-Buying most of them, to work on the Mac OS or install a version of Windows in either a Boot Camp partition, Dual booting the Mac, or into a Virtual Machine software program to run the Windows version of those program.
If you decide on a Mac buy the BASE model that is offered for the CPU speed you want. The RAM and hard drive can be upgraded by you for much less then what Apple charges for those upgrades. With the hard drive if you upgrade it to a larger and faster drive, Apple supplies 5400RPM drives, like a 7200RPM drive you get to Keep the original drive to use in any way you like. Like an external drive. -
I am 12 and want a 13 inch Macbook for video editing and stuff I cannot do on my iPad.
I need a Macbook for video editing and stuff I cannot do on my iPad (flash web browsing, iMovie or Final Cut Pro for YouTube, small games, photoshop, Reaktor 5, etc). I was thinking of buying the MacBook Air 13" refurbished intel core i5 for $999. I can pay up to $1,300 so I was thinking of getting the 13" MacBook Pro with retina display refurbished intel core i5 for $1,260. But then I couldn't buy many accessories or AppleCare. I do not really want to buy the non-retina MacBook Pro because it is not as portable and I am only 12 but I don't know much about how heavy it is because there is no apple store where I live but this is why I came here. So which MacBook should I buy? (I am probably going to wait until the new MacBooks in June 2013)

Congratulations on your upcoming graduation and the really wonderful gift you anticipate from your parents. Unfortunately, I am unable to give you information about upcoming Apple products or promotions, as I honestly don't know.
All my purchased music, and games, and videos, etc are on the computer I am currently using. Is there a way to transfer all of it to my new MacBook I will be receiving?
If the computer you are currently using is a Mac, yes, it can be transferred. One of the difficulties with the new MacBook is that it does not have any firewire ports, which will make networking a bit of a pain, but it can be done. Post back after you have your new computer with specs and we will give you directions on how to do it.
And are they going to make a new Macbook? So should I wait?
While I do not have any specific information about upcoming products, it is fairly certain that Apple will be coming out with new products. Of course this is a continuing process so you can be waiting for a long time. I would, personally, go ahead and get one now, and that should certainly see you through college. By then who know what wonderful products will be available!

I dont get sound for videos, games and music but ringtone still works. When i press volume buttons on side of phone i only get the picture of the nell and no little dots underneath. This is on my iphone 4s and ipad. It happened at the same time.
Recurring theme with the 4s losing alerts except for the phone ringing. Most complaints seem to center on the 7.1 upgrade. The fix is dodgy, putting in a charger, playing a you tube video then pulling out the charger and wiggling it until you get the sound back. When you get the sound back, the volume buttons start to work again. Alternate solutions involve cleaning the docking port with a toothbrush, running a pick over the electrodes etc.

I know I could opt for the most expensive and probably get what I want that way, but I´m not made of money, so what are your suggestions for minimum criteria and which would you recommend?MacBooks Pro are great Macs with a good hardware, so all of them will work for the use you want, but I think that you want the biggest display possible because of your uses. In this case, it has to be a 15-inch non-Retina MacBook Pro, with the settings you want. Note that, after buying the Mac, you can upgrade the HDD and memory without voiding the warranty, so you are free to install as much memory and the HDD size you want after buying it. It's my opinion, but you are free to do whatever you think it's better
