Database toolkit and LV8.5

Hello All,
I upgraded to LV8.5 and tried to run code from LV8.2 and am encountering the following error:
"The Governing Library for this node is broken.  At least one component VI is missing or broken."
The problem is in the "DB Tools Fetch Table Data.vi", the "Database Variant To Data" primitive is broken and no longer appears in the block diagram.  Anyone know how to fix this problem?
Thanx,
Karl

Did you install the DB toolkit or did you just try to run it with out installing it for 8.5. 8.5 has a lot of trouble with the DB toolkit because it cannot convert the vi's properly. The reason that it cannot convert the VI's is because NI changed some of the formatting and the fact that the DB toolkit has a lot of VI's that are in 5.0 in which LV 8.5 cannot convert. Try installing it again into the LV8.5 directory. Then open up LV8.2 and do a mass compile on the folder. Then open 8.5 and do a mass compile on the same folder. this may or may not help. But doing this allowed me to use the db toolkit in 8.5.
hope it helps you.
Joe.

  • Application doesn't work after build (database toolkit and report gen toolkit).

I wrote an application using database toolkit and report gen toolkit to retrieve some data from a database,  put into a Word doc, save the Word doc and print it.  It works fine when I run the vi, but when I build and run it, it does nothing.   I have tried all of the settings in Projec Manager that I think might help but it still won't work right.  Labview 8.2.1, XP.
    Thanks,

Thanks for the help.  I finally abondened the Word append table and used the regular report gen append table and got it to work fine.  The error was 214682314.  That led me to the thread about column numbers must vbe between 1 and 63, but like I said, my coulumn number is 7 so don't know what is going on.  Anyway I got the vi to work and do what I want so I guess now the problem is solved (moot).

  • Java framework/toolkit for POJO, database persistence and XML

    Hi all,
I've been wondering if there's a toolkit or framework for developing Java program (could be standalone Java program, EJBs etc.)
I surfed around casually and found some but there isn't any detailed description of what and how each framework/toolkit does. So I hope to ask around if you've anything that you have used before and would like to point to me to look further.
Given the huge number of open source toolkits, libraries and frameworks out there, it can be quite confusing as to which one is more suitable for me. Also with Sun's move into JDO and Java Persistence API, things become more messy and complicated - there isn't any clear leader in this area and things are starting to change with the inclusion of JDO which seems to be the future standard persistence API to use.
So far, I've only worked with Hibernate for database persistence before. So I'm wondering if there're other options such as Hibernate with XDoclet, Castor and Spring framework etc. that can easily transform Plain Old Java Objects (POJO) -- hopefully using Java Reflection w/o using mapping XML files like in Hibernate -- into SQL for database persistence and XML text data and vice-versa. The current problem is that I've been spending tons of time writing code to transform data in Java objects into XML (using my own format) and also doing mapping files for Hibernate.
I am hoping for something simple like:
    Object o = new Object();
    o.setProperty = "something";
String xml = o.toXML(); // Convert object to XML text.
    o.save(); // Save to database.
// The reverse: Parse XML into object and load from database
    Object o = new Object();
    o.fromXML(xml);
    o.load();
// Properties should be initialized from database or XML.
Anything similar to this out there?

    Hi,
Just to share what I've found after surfing a bit more on this issue to promote more discussion on this area.
For mapping of Java objects to XML, we can try looking more at Castor and JAXB.
For database persistence to/from Java objects, look at Hibernate and JDO.
There is this Hydrate project (hydrate.sourceforge.net) that I do not know where it fits in still. But it is supposed to do data transformation and mapping between Java objects, XML and database representation.
    Fyi.

  • Database Toolkit Sub query Syntax and file path expectation question.

I need some assistance from those of you smarter than I.
I have two database files (not two tables in the same database file) one represents information delivered from an external interface, and the other is used by the internal interface associated with the processing half of my application.  Data is received (i.e. fields are populated)  from the external interface to one database file and that data is then copied to another database file where the information will be processed by the internal interface. This is being done because I am worried about  file access issues that might occur if two different interfaces (external & internal) try to access the same file at the same time (without dealing with semaphores). I am not too worried about the sanctity of the data since each record supplied from the external interface should not effect any of the data being used by the internal interface.  So the first question is , am I being to primitive in my thinking assuming that I would run into file access issues if I were to just use two tables in the same database file for the same purpose ?
My second question is related to my current implementation where I have two separate database files representing the external and internal interface data. Currently when a new set of data is entered into the External Interface Database file, an alert is issued, and another task copies the data from that file into Internal Interface Database, then the data is deleted from the External Interface Database file. My question is related to the syntax that I am using to provide the described functionality. I am currently using a INSERT with a subquery to the External Interface Database file i.e. INSERT INTO InternalDB FROM  ExternalDB.ExternalTable WHERE Order =  '06306049'; .
My question is when I run this query with both database files in same directory I get an error stating that the ODBC driver can not find the ExternalDB.ExternalTable in the Parent Directory of the subdirectory where the files are actually located. The system DSN is set up correctly for the ExternalDB, and if I move it to the parent directory the query works correctly, my question is why would I have to put the two database files in seperate directories for this to work and is there a way to avoid this ?
    Thanks..

  • Database Toolkit - Get Database Information

    Hi All,
I'm struggling a bit with this toolkit, and thought I'd bring it up on here for some input.
Using the included functions with that toolkit, I'm able to connect to my database, but i'm having trouble writing to it (Error -2147217913).  I'm a bit concerned that maybe my data types don't match, so in order to confirm, I noticed in the examples given with this toolkit there was a VI that gets your database information (Column names, tables, most relevant - data types per column name.).  Something odd happened that I'm not sure if its supposed to:
I changed the UDL address of the example database, to my database's UDL...nothing else, just to get a list of datatypes.  Now using their UDL it finishes cleanly, w/no error.  With my UDL - I receive Error -2147217900 occurred at Conn Execute.vi->DB Tools List Columns.vi->Get Database Information.vi.  Interesting eh?  But it does show every column name/and data type, wonder why it fails though?
Anyone have some recommendations of how to troubleshoot next? Or how to interpret this?  I'm betting if I can figure out why its failing in the example program, both failures are maybe tied together?

    Hi Aashish!
Good news, figured out the problem...I WAS writing a null to the database (by accident), and while access doesn't mind them - the toolkit is based on SQL standard which i believe does.  The program had a cluster that was being initialized, and fed into a loop where it waited for user action. (So we didn't have left over garbage in each field whenever the app ran.)  Once the user input all their data, that same wire was fed into the input to populate the array. I thought it would update the cluster as the controls were changed, but I guess the only way to change elements is to unbundle, change and rebundle. (At least thats how it behaves)
Appreciate the help, but while on the topic maybe you can give me a pointer, the only way I could work it so a fresh copy of the data was sent into the cluster, was to make a local variable of the cluster and wire that to the input (See picture).  Rather than get yelled at later if I need more help, any idea how to reduce that local so we don't require a duplicate copy of the data?  (avoid race conditions, etc.)  Or would you even?  Guess it boils down to, is there another way to update the cluster in there?  I can unbundle, and rebundle, but I'm not sure what I'd do between the two to update all those to feed into the database...its a bit confusing to describe but I think it gets the idea across lol.
I was thinking about a way to do it...and thought maybe I need an indicator for each control, then when the indicator changes, feed that into the control cluster to update from intial and go from there...but thats a copy of data the same size as the local would make, I'd think.

  • How can I delete a row in access using the database toolkit?

I want to delete just one row of a access table using the database toolkit. Can it be done and if so How?

Take a look at page A-1 of the database connetivity manual. It has information on making a sql query that will delete. You will need to use this command with the dbtools execute query function. Look in the shipping examples for an example with this function.

  • SQL Query Works in MS SQL Server 2008 but not when using Database Toolkit

    I have this SQL query:
    DECLARE @DataTypeTable TABLE (
    Name varchar(128),
    TypeID INT)
--Add comma delimeted data type names to temp table
    INSERT INTO @DataTypeTable (Name)
    SELECT * FROM WhatWeShouldDoRead.func_Split(@DataTypeTrimmed,',')
    SELECT Name FROM @DataTypeTable
Which takes a comma delimited string and returns the string as a table.  It works correctly in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.  When I run this as a stored procedure  I get back nothing.  There are no errors, SQL or otherwise.  I've verified that I am connected to the correct database and that the stored procedure is loaded by changing the no error string that is reported from this stored procedure (that code is not shown in the above example).  Has anyone seen this problem before, or have any experiance with SQL/Labview interfaces to tell me what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

After doing some more research it appears that the database toolkit cannot interface with any table results from any type of temp table.  It may have to do with the fact that MS SQL 2008 stores temp tables in a seperate database (tempdb) and not the database you are currently connected to.  See this link for a good artical on temp tables:
    http://databases.aspfaq.com/database/should-i-use-a-temp-table-or-a-table-variable.html
If possible,  I'd like a someone to prove me wrong, but for now will have to settle for exporting the contents of a temp table through a string.

  • Using SQLplus command in LabView Database toolkit

    Hi ,
I would like to ask something but before that this is my set up background
    OS          : Win 7,
    LabVIEW : 2012
I have successfully connected with Oracle database using Labview Database toolkit.
The problem now is since I need to query the data from the database,
it will takes time for the labview to process it (since there is so much data in a specific table),
let say that the table in database is "Serial Number", and the data that I want from that table is "SN123"
if I query the data from that table, the labview will process it in a long time since it will not only give me "SN123" but also other data inside the "Serial Number" table.
    (Refer to attachment)
but if in SQLplus, there is a command that can be execute to specifically call the "SN123" data,
For the SQLplus, the steps to retrieve the data is like this:
    1. Key in the command to get the ID of the "SN123"
    2. Key in the command "SN123" ID to retrieve the data.
I wonder if there is a way to put this command on labview database so it will be faster to retrieve the data.

An  instrument driver written in Labview, is not the same as a instrument driver used by say Windows. A Labview instrument driver uses standard Labview functions to send SCPI commands to the instrument. You can learn a lot about the instrument by looking into the Labview instrument driver, and how it sends the commands to the instrument. But having the instrument programming manual at hands is also important.
Besides which, my opinion is that Express VIs Carthage must be destroyed deleted

  • Database Toolkit: Reading data from SQL database

    Hello,
I have been working on a automated test system storing data into a SQL server database.  Once you get your head wrapped around the toolkit and walk through some of the examples it is not too bad.  Writing to the database was very straight forward.  I simply put all of my data including the primary keys into a cluster and inserted the cluster into the specified table.  As I learned the hard way,  it is very important for all of your types to match up.  I saved double type from labview as decimal type in the SQL database, and long integer in labview as integer in the SQL database.
For the the read VI, this is where my questions lie. After establishing a connection reference I used the "DB Tools Create Parameterized Query" VI combined with a SQL statement to find the recordset that I was looking for.  I used a standard SQL statement using the primary keys such as, "Select * From TableName Where Measurements = "%Measurements%" ".  This VI creates a command reference which I then passed to multiple "DB Tools Get Parameter Value" VIs.  I could not get this to work with the command reference.
I then switched over to the "DB Tools Execute Query" inputting the same SQL statement I had used before.  THis VI passed a recordset reference, which I then passed to a "DB Tools Get Properties" VI to check if the database was empty or not.  I then passed the recordset reference to multiple "DB Tools Fetch Element Data"  VI's to read the data from the SQL database.  THis worked very well.
    therefore I am wondering:
What is the difference between a command reference and a recordset reference in the Database connectivity toolkit?
Why would one work and not the other?
Is there ever a case when you would want to use one method over the other?
I have asked my app guys and Labview training instructor different database type questions, and I not received a decent answer to date.
    Thanks,
    Jackson

    Hello,
Can you pass the command reference to a single "DB Tools Get Parameter Value" VI?  What exactly do you mean when you say you couldn't get this to work with command references... can you post an error message or the results?  The documented difference is that they are different flavors of ADOs (activeX data objects), one is a command and the other is a recordset reference.  I know this does not draw a precise distinction, but I'd like to understand this problem fully so we can find one!
Please repost with anything more you can give!

  • How to connect labviewv database toolkit to SQL CE server

    Dear sir,
i am using labview 8.2.1 and Database Connectivity 8.2.i need same simple  concept of how to connect  LV database toolkit to SQL CE Server.

When opening the database connection, you will need to provide either a connection string, or a path to a UDL (which will contain a conenction string). The easiest way to get a connection string is to go to (no I am not kidding) www.ConnectionStrings.com. Once there you enter the type of DBMS you are trying to connect to, and the system will list connection strings that you can use based on the drivers that you're using.
How much experience do you have with LV and/or databases?

  • Database toolkit memory leaks

I have memory leaks in my Labview application connecting and inserting data into a MSSQL server using Labview Database Toolkit.
    Versions: Labview 7.1, Toolkit 1.0.1.

Or possibly, will it all go away if I upgrade the versions. (As I understand I have too update Labview to be able to update the Toolkit?)

Memory Leak in the Database Toolset in DB Tools Open Schema VI
The DB Tools Open Schema VI leaks memory which if called continuously eventually causes a LabVIEW crash. This is a sub VI of the DB Tools Insert Data VI.
Workaround—At the highest level, if you are continuously updating values in a table, make sure the table already exists and leave the Create Table input to the DB Tools Insert Data VI set to FALSE.
Other than this, the most important thing is to close all references...

  • Using get properties VI from database toolkit

Hello I'm using database toolkit to read and import data from a MySql database.
I want to read the last row that has been written in a table. I don't know how to do this but i think i can know the number of the last row written using the get properties block.
But using this VI i have to use execute query block.....and i get an error, i think that the sql query is not defined correctly.
I have posted a part of my VI where i use this blocks.
I have two questions: is this the way to read the last row that has been written in  a table of a database??
The other question is why doesn't run this subVi and what is the correct way to define a SQL query (you have to put the table name, o some other thing)
    Thank you very much

I hate when this happens... if I press TAB + SPACE the message is sent to forum... :-s
    Hi, Larson:
You can't read "the last row written" in a DataBase, as records are not sorted, by definition. You could have a field in a record that grows every time you insert in a table, like AutoNumeric, or DateTime and then you could know exactly wich record is the last one.
Once you know how to get "the last row written" you have to translate it to SQL. Provided you have an AutoNumeric field named "IdRow" in your table "TestTable", you could write:
SELECT * FROM TestTable WHERE IdRow = (MAX(t.IdRow) from TestTable t)
Now you should build a call to the DataBase.
First you need ExecuteQuery, as you did use, and SQL Query input should be the like "SELECT * FROM..."
Second you have to retrieve the data with, for example, "DB Tools Fetch Recordset Data", in DB Palette, next to Execute Query. The output will be a Variant 2D Array that you can convert to anything you want, like String 2D Array, for example using Variant palette functions
And third you have to close the recordset Reference with "DB Tools Free Object", the rightmost function in the same row as Execute Query.
And once you have done all, you can close de DataBase.
    Hope it helps,
    Aitortxo.
