Datacenter Migration
Hi All,
We are planning for a Datacenter Migration and i had few questions regarding it.
Source is on HP-UNIX 11.23, Oracle 10.2, SAP -ECC6 EHP4
Our target version would be 11.31, Oracle 11g, SAP-ECC6 EHP4
im thinking of installing oracle 11g and shell of ECC6 EHP4 on target system and then perform export from source system
and use the export dump to import in the target system.
I would like to know if the above strategy is ok as the difference between source and target would be OS release and Oracle version.
Any inputs would be of great help.
Regards,
Ershad Ahmed.
Hi,
The procedure is correct.
If you are comfortable with Migration Monitor. Additional to your steps you can do the below things too.
Source:
1) Start your export from sapinst after R3ldctl finishes, it will exist for migration monitor.
Target:
1) Install the Oracle Software
2) Databse creation
3) Tablespace Creation
and then it will exit. and wait till you configure migration monitor and start the import. Once all data is imported and you continue with your sapinst screen.
(Benefits : Tablespace creation for large database take much time and you are saving this time)
If you are comfortable iwth migration monitor then only proceed with the above steps.
Regards
Iliyas.

Exchange 2010: Virtualized Exchange 2010 Datacenter Migration
We have a virtualized Exchange 2010 production implementation that needs to be relocated to a new datacenter. We will be leveraging SAN based replication and VMWare to cutover.
Some background info:
3 CAS/HUB servers
4 Node DAG across 2 sites (3 production Mailbox servers in the site to be migrated, 1 mailbox server will not move and be left in DR)
Since I need to shutdown 3 mailbox servers in a 4 node DAG, the cluster will go offline and the databases will dismount. I could run a datacenter switchover to preserve service, but I have the OK to take Exchange completely down.
Knowing that:
1) What are the best practices to shutdown and start up all the CAS servers and Mailbox servers (both in prod and DR)?
2) Should I suspend replication or dismount the databases in advance and prevent them from automatically mounting on boot up? Is the StartDagServerMaintenance script relevant in this situation?
Any suggestions on the proper way to go about this is much appreciated. Thanks for reading.-->1) During the shutdown...would it make sense to turn off the 4th mailbox server in the DAG which is located in our DR site? I'm thinking that leaving the DR mailbox server powered off and powering it up last among the DAG members would prevent
any database copies from being activated in DR.
You already have a planned outage. I suggest you shut down the server in DR and start that after starting
all the 3.
2) To be able to mount a database in a 4 node DAG, I need to have the file share witness and two mailbox servers available first...correct?
Your fileshare witness should be online first otherwise none of your databases will get mounted.
If your DAG contains odd number of members filesharewitness will be ignored, (even number of DAG members will use filesharewitness)http://blog.credera.com/technology-insights/microsoft-solutions/when-do-dags-need-a-file-share-witness/

How i can make sure all will be up fine after re-location, Not dropping then them is good. Moving them very gently is even better. Remembering/Marking how to plug them in is good also.
what if something goes wrong?Consider it a challenge
what backups i should have and how to take them & restore/recover them? You should have this in place anyway. And a DR plan.
Any other suggestion to make preparation would help .....You should probably hire specialist help. Any consider whether you should really be buying new servers and migrating onto those, especially if your maintenance has lapsed.
These answers seem tite, but to give meaningful responses requires a lot more detail and your cost/risk/benefit situation. A NFS or iSCSI NAS solution might be part of your strategy if you have nothing else, but it all really requires planning, and there is probably no way to impart the skills to yourself. But you possibly need a specialist help. -
Hi ,
We plan to do a Data center migration from one location to another location with Same OS and DB. We plan to change both hostname and ip-address as well. , I like to know what are the precautions we need to take from PI point of view. WE are planning to take all the file systems backup fron DC1 and restore it in DC2.

Migration of BW system to new datacenter/What to stop+restart?
(repost from [here in data warehouse|Stop/start of BW 7.0 system-->how to deal with deltas when moving instance?; forum)
Dear BW guru's,
we are moving a BW 7.0 system to a new datacenter, where the R3 source systems remain the same.
What should we consider when we want to stop the system, move it, and restart the next day, when the source systems cannot be stopped?
Specifically I may need to clear the delta queues in BW before stopping and moving the system or not?
After the system has been installed in it's new location, can we just the delta process chains without any other action, and will it extract the delta's from source system where it left of before?
is there something I am overlooking?
thanks for tapping your collective brainpower,
-jhJaap,
When you say datacenter migration ... are any aspects being changed ? like OS / DB etc - if all else remain the same and just the datacenter is changing then ideally you need not clear any queues etc ... to be on the safer side you might want to clear the queues before migration and during the migration - make sure you remove all process chains from the schedule etc and any jobs that connect to BW from R/3 etc.. -
Need suggestion on Data Center Migration
Hi All,
We are currently handling a datacenter migration project where in the souce instance is hosted at Oracle Datacenter ( Texas ).
and the target instance need to be built on **** Hosted datacenter ( U.K).
-> It takes 3days to ship the (cold) backup from U.S datacenter to UK datacenter. We could able to bring up the database using that. But
in order to keep the new Instnace in sync with the source ( which is being used by bussiness) we have to apply all the archvies in this gap.
--> Database size 250G
--> We could manage to ship the archives generated after cold backup directly to FTP server ( in UK network). But there ar around 3000 - 4000 archives to be applied.
We have planned to perform a cancel based recovery here.
In this scenario, need your advice, If we have any other alternative ( Best practice)

Secure Datacenter Architecture (colo); Enterprise VLANing and IP management
In the beginning stages of a datacenter migration, I am trying to uncover best methods for deploying a large scale datacenter in a secure Layer 2 and 3 environment.
The end goal here is to achieve not only broadcast domain segregation, but also IP address control and management, all while trying to minimize administrative and technical overhead.
The existing network is built on 5505, 3550 and 2950 edge aggregation switches, terminated on a 6506 core switch.
The existing infrastructure includes more than 2000 individual servers and growing rapidly; this design must be scalable (with obvious network growth) into the tens of thousands of servers.
I have reviewed a number of methods to achieve this, the most appealing (for IP utilization) seems to be Cisco's pVLAN implementations with IP access lists to prevent malicious or inadvertant IP theft. Unfortunately, according to the Cisco docs I've read, this feature is not supported in the 5500 series devices, or fully in many of the lower level devices mentioned above.
If anybody can point me in the right direction for existing or proposed solutions, ideally utilizing this infrastructure, and minimizing system load and administration, I would greatly appreciate it.
Regards,
Anthonypvlan and vacls are supported on cat 6000. You could plan to include one in your network, based on the growth. Here is a document on datacenter networking.

Australian data center migration postponed
Hi everyone,
Due to some last minute developments, we have decided to postpone the first phase of the Australian datacenter migration, which was scheduled for this weekend.
We have decided to postpone the migration until we are able to focus our efforts exclusively on the migration and ensure a minimal disruption to your experience.
A new date will be communicated later, on our blog, forums and dedicated migration site.
Thank you for your patience and understanding,

Fast Solaris 10 Migration for Busy Admins
More Quickstarts Needed!
Is there a better way to get started with Solaris 10 than drudging through the "Solaris 10 System Administrator Collection" at docs.sun.com?
I started going through the "Basic Administration" guide and got particularly bogged down in the SMF section.
The BigAdmin site saved me with it's Quickstart guide on the subject:
http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/content/selfheal/smf-quickstart.html
Unfortunately, I don't see many other such guides on Solaris 10 user & admin topics. Are there any other good resources for admins migrating from Linux/xBSD?
Since I learned almost everything I know from the guides on tldp.org long before O'Reilly or Sams got involved, I'm not expecting a "Teach Yourself Solaris 10 in 10 Seconds" book.
I'm assuming that the docs.sun.com collections are meant more as reference manuals than "cover to cover" readers. Any suggestions on how I can migrate with the least amount of pain... and without the $2000 training seminars (http://www.sun.com/training/catalog/courses/SA-100-S10.xml)?There's a good whitepaper on migrating HPUX environments to Solaris @

DataCenter Activation //Exchange 2010
Hi,
One of my client is activating exchange services from secondary datacenter. Could you expert folks please review this & let me know if you see any issues and help me make this easier to achieve
with little to no interruption.
Some background:
The activation of secondary datacenter is needed because we’ll be migrating the current primary datacenter to new facility which will then become the new primary datacenter. And to support Email services uptime/SLA, we’ll be activating the services
to secondary datacenter meanwhile, post successful datacenter migration we’ll then have to failback the services this new datacenter.
Exchange Environment: We’ve 2 Multirole exchange 2010 SP3 servers at each site. One pair F5 Load balancer (GTM & LTM configuration) at each site. Each site has IronPort
for outgoing email. UM gateways are configured in cluster spanning both sites. Each site has its own CAS array. Webmail & autodiscover records are published to public DNS
Here is a plan.
Route public traffic from Primary site F5 LoadBalancer pair to Secondary site F5 LoadBalancer pair. (Change webmail/autodiscover host name to
secondary datacenter & Flush the cache on DNS server)
Change the internal DNS server record for CAS Array, Webmail, SMTP Relay, Internal autodiscover etc to point to secondary datacenter
Either rename the secondary CAS array as Primary CAS array or set the primary CAS array to secondary site
Change all the exchange Virtual directory external URL as public webmail mail URL and internal URL will have local Secondary site CAS array followed by
directory type.
Configure OWA redirection on IIS
Change Iron port/HUB server to ensure source transport server is now secondary hub server and smart host is secondary ironport
Replicate relay connector to secondary hub transport server so applications can relay emails via these servers
UM servers gateway exists at both sites and SIP trunk is configured so I don’t see any need for change
Move OAB to secondary exchange server
Login to server in the Secondary datacenter & run
Stop-DatabaseAvailabilityGroup -Identity DAG01 -ActiveDirectorySite Primary
Verify StoppedMailboxServer should list all mailbox servers in the primary datacenter and the StartedMailboxServers should list all mailbox servers in the recovery datacenter
Verify that the cluster services on all Exchange servers that were accessible in the primary datacenter were cleaned up & Ensure the startup type for Cluster Service is set to disabled
Stop the Cluster service on each DAG member in the Secondary datacenter.
Run the restore command from secondary exchange servers as below
Restore-DatabaseAvailabilityGroup –Identity DAG01 -ActiveDirectorySite Secondary
-AlternateWitnessDirectory:<AWSPath> -AlternateWitnessServer:<AWSName>
Verify that the DAG members are up and the Cluster Group is online
Activate/Mount the databases now
Shut down primary Datacenter exchange servers, & Necessary SAN backend. Move the hardware to new datacenter. Plug them in and turn them on &
if the exchange server/SAN come backup online properly then login to primary exchange server & run.
Start-DatabaseAvailabilityGroup –Identity DAG01 -ActiveDirectorySite primary
Ensure DAG members are up and the Cluster Group is online
Set-DatabaseAvailabilityGroup –Identity DAG01 -WitnessServer <WSName>
-AlternateWitnessServer <AWSName>
Move active database copies to primary datacenter.
Repeat step 1 to 9 to turn the things back on primary datacenter.
Let me know if this can be further improved or rather simplified.
Regards, Pushkal MishrA, This posting is provided “AS IS” with no warranties and confers no rights. I request you to test the solution in lab and post successful outcome you should try this on production.Hi,
To get the traffic to DR site, you need to change the DNS record to point to the VIP of the LB in the second site.
Here is a related thread which may help you to understand this for your reference.

SMS_SITE_VSS_WRITER issue
Hello Everyone.
Last month I had to restore the my Primary standalone SCCM server on a new VM as part of a datacenter migration.
I've used the same FQDN and it went quite easy. Configuration: SCCM 2012 R2 CU3 running on Windows 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2012 all of them running on the same machine.
After the migration I didn't really created / replicated big packages, until last week.
Then I've noticed all large packages were failing to distribute. I've looked and the it looks like SMS_Exec restarting every 15 minutes and this kills the transfer/
Of course I've started to check the distrmgr.log and pkgXfermgr.log.

Trouble with Check Out process
I've never come across this issue but my client is saying that they are having trouble checking out on their website. I have tried and have no problems.
This is what they have come back:
The issue is that while Brightsparks themselves may not have made changes,
the people Brightsparks use for the payment part of things, HAVE made
changes. https://pggwpromoshop.worldsecuresystems.com, used to resolve to
202.176.14.137. Today, it resolves to 54.252.148.183.
Would it be possible for you to confirm with World Secure Systems that this
is a permanent change? Gen-I charge us for these changes, so we like to
minimise them as much as possible.
Brightsparks is me in the above statement.
I have absolutely no idea what they are getting at and why they would have any troubles checking out. Does anyone have an idea or can point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance,
KirstyHi Kirst, there was big migrations over the year and the final parts for the AU datacentre was very recently, there was a message directly in the admin for a week before this happened.
