Hi everyone,
I am trying to practice datagaurd (how to implement it). Can i implement the datagaurd in the same oracle home?
I mean..
datagaurd implementation with ..
/same oracle home for both production and stand by database
/and that 2 databases on the same machine
(just for practicing ..to see how the archives apply from production to standy)
could some one suggest me some simple docs on these please....

nothing tricky within same box there is no different steps for DG implementation within the same node or diffrent node,excpet in 9i there you have to specify lock_name_space parameter when you want to open a copy database with the same DB_NAME on the same machine as the source database.
but in 10g new DB_UNIQUE_NAME attribute is introduced to clearly identify the relationship between a primary and standby databases.

New bie needs help on how to start...

Hi there java gurus,
I am very new to java & I have a little knowledge on the java architechture. I have some experience in web scripting languages like PHP, ASP & javascript/vbscripts etc.
I want to master java. I want to be able to create java GUI applications that connects to database and do the required stuffs. I have little experience on creating java applets.
But now I want to start with creating a GUI application to store my personal accounts. Later I want to convert that into a commercial one.
My questions are:
What free database I can use for my application?
Developing GUI application in java is advisable? ie is java GUI faster to develop than developing in MS VB & VB.net?
Can java code be protected? or it is easy to decompile? A friend of mine told something about decompiling jars.
I understand that the nice thing about java is, it is multi platform & a well organised programming language.
Please give me whatever advise is necessary for this new-bie to get going quickly.
Note: I have just installed netbeans as java development IDE which comes with the latest java. Is this a good choice or there are any other choices?

What free database I can use for my application?You can use any database which support JDBC. I know Mysql and Postgresql supports it.

VB & VB.net?I dont think GUI programming is easier than VB in Java although i want to. There are some layouts (gridbaglayout) to specify the positions of your components in a platform independent way but they are not much easy.
You have two choice (i think) if you dont want to work with those managers:
1. You can set your layout to null and use absolute positions of the components to layout as in VB. There are some specific layouts in some IDEs to do this too. (AbsoluteLayout in Netbeans)
2. You can wait for the new layout manager which is very powerfull for designing form like GUIs as far as i see. There is a java.net project for it. Unfortunately i dont remeber its name.
In fact i am using Matisse(http://www.netbeans.org/kb/articles/matisse.html) in development builds of Netbeans. I reccomend you to use it for just practicing since you will not be able to open the forms designed with experimental Matisse in the stable release!

Hello, I am new to J2ME and doing requirement analysis. Client wants that the application should run on following mobile phones:

My question is, from where to get emulator for these phones ? Also, when I am done with J2ME application development, how would I get that application installed on the above listed phones ? Do I need to buy any connectors from PC-to-Mobile to transfer the application ?

You can try with device manufacturers website, they will provide the emulators. after completing the development process you can upload the application to the device through the following methods.
1. Infra red
2. OTA
3. cable connection.
Check your device manual to find out the supported feature.

New bie Question

Hi,
We have Installed the Oracle Web center suite (Basic) Installation.
We are able to view the ApplicationServer UI as well as the Content DB adminUI.
We are not sure how to access the default Portal Page as is with any other Portal Product.
Where can we find the out of the box portlets that comes up with Webcenter so that we can customize or configure it as per our requiremet.
Any help or pointer will be appreciated.

All I can figure out till this time is that the webcenter :-
1) Is a framework by Oracle and not a Actual portal product
2) Create a "portal like" application using JSF and ADFs
3) Doesnt have any default layout and themes
4) We have to write our own logic to implement authentication,authorization,customization and personalization.
5) No out of the box portlets like blogs,discussion forums,wikis and finders.
6) Using Jdeveloper we can create JSF applications which can then be "portalized" (JSR168) afterwards using Jdeveloper.
a) Please feel free to correct me if my understanding is not correct.
b) Please let me know how Webcenter can be a ValueAdd if I use Oracle Portal.
c) also ,If I use a combination of both oracle portal and webcenter then how well the combination fits.
d) What is the roadmap of the "Combination" in the future when we go for web3.0, JSR286 and WSRP3.0

New Bie Question: Doing Flex Salesforce integration for the first time

Dear Friends,
I want to connect to Salesforce using Flex API and I have tried two-three approaches but all in vain.
It give me an error 'INVALID_LOGIN: Invalid username, password, security token; or user locked out.'
PLEASE HELP ME TO FIX THIS .
Also, I would like the highlight the fact that my username and password work only for 'test.salesforce.com' and not for ' login.salesforce.com'. Could it be reason for login failure. I have used the token as suggested.
I have also tried setting different serverURL like ''serverUrl=https://test.salesforce.com/services/Soap/u/9.0 and https://login.salesforce.com/services/Soap/u/9.0 .
Below are two of the techniques I have used.
(1) Using AIR API.
For this I have done as mentioned in 'http://wiki.developerforce.com/index.php/Force.com_Flex_Quick_Start_Tutorial'.

"need"? no, but you might prefer to do so.
Let me explain.
First off, there's nothing in Mac OS X Server, per se, that says it's designed for internet-facing applications. Sure, some of the services are internet-leaning, but don't think that internet/non-internet is the deciding factor of whether to use Server over client.
The fact is that much of what you describe can be done via Mac OS X Client, but it can be done much easier with Mac OS X Server. You might find that the hours you save, and the productivity you gain far outweighs the cost of Mac OS X Server.
Case in point, you have three workstations, right? Is each one used by an individual? or are they shared?
If they're shared, would it be easier for any user to be able to log on at any workstation and get their normal desktop environment, preferences, etc? That's something that's easy to do with Mac OS X Server, but not via Mac OS X Client.
You've already touched on shared iCal and contacts, neither of which are part of Mac OS X client, so you'll have to decide how much they're worth to you.
At the end of the day, you'll have to decide for yourself. Of course, you could take the easy option and defer until Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) comes later in the summer, in which case the server functions are included as optional installs for no additional cost (i.e. buy client and get the Server for free).

3. The Universe is a semantic layer between some of the BO Tools and your Datasource. For some Tools a Universe is required like f.e. WebIntelligence. For Crystal Reports a Universe is not needed.

Several questions - new to Creative Zen Touch - please help (ripping/accessori

Hi, I just ordered my new Zen Touch 20gb online last night with a set of Sony earbuds (MDR-EX5LP). I'm pretty excited, get it this Friday.
I just had a few questions in advance:
A) Which programs are best for ripping, allow you to adjust the quality of the songs, and won't cause problems when burnt cds are ripped (saw a thread earlier that complained of bad quality when burnt cds were ripped to MP3 that worried me)?
B) What different types of cables/accessories would you recommend for wiring the Creative up to a stereo? On CNet.com and various other sites, they talk about how the Creative sounds great through speakers, and I'm really excited to hook that up, but I don't know A) Which cable to buy that will work well with the Creative/have good sound quality, B) Where to plug it in - headphone jack? (no analog Line Out, right?)
C) Has anyone had any experience with the remote? Is it pretty durable? I'm not going to plop down 50 plus shipping and handling, wait 2-3 weeks for the backorder, only to have it fall to bits in a few weeks.

I have used WMP0 exclusi'vely for ripping CDs. I rip WMAs at 28kbps, though you may want to go up to 92kbps if you can hear the difference (some people recommed ripping a song at both and deciding which is best). I sync all my CDs with WMP0 too, and have had no issues. One thing to caution you is to make sure your ID3 tags are correct before you sync up. What I mean by this is to make sure the album name, track titles, and artist names are to your liking. 90% it is not an issue, but sometimes, the titles have extra characters you may not wish to have. If you have more than one artist listed on a track, only the first one is loaded. So if you have, say: "EmmyLou Harris; Buddy Miller", the track is stored under artist Emmylou Harris only.</LI>

I have two questions *NEW TO MAC PLEASE HELP*

Hi I've been a windows user basically my whole life and am now entering the new realm of mac. For now I have two basic questions:
(1) I want to select certain files and delete them, but I dont want to select all of them, and I dont want to select one by one. With windows to do that I simply click and press shift on the first and last file that I want, and everything in between. I have no idea of how to do that on Mac and I really need to.
(2) I am a spanish speaker and on windows whenever I need to use the letter ñ I simply go Alt+164. Is there a way to use this letter in mac by just using keystrokes??
If anybody could help me out on this it would be greatly appreciated.

Quick SAP Script question New Page Print

Quick SAP Script question
I have added a new page to an existing SAP Script BUT only want it to print if a condition is true.
I need to do this from within the form as the print program is SAP Std.
Any idea how I can prevent the new page from printing?
i.e. I need the form NOT to call the new page if the condition is false. Is there a way of forcing an exit or stop from with in the form?

To trigger a new page, there is script ediotr command NEW-PAGE.
so find where is that command is triggered and use the below code for trigger it on any specific condition....

so it means if condition is satisfied your new page will not work.. else it will...

Three questions: new songs, two devices, organizing albums

I have searched and searched and still have three questions that I can't find an answer to. I hope you guys can help.
1) I have a few albums that are not organized with each other and are duplicates and such, when I upload to itunes match, will those be organized from apple's database?
These were songs from cd's, friend's hd, etc.
2) when I upload new songs in the future from cd's I may buy or put new songs in itunes that I don't buy from apple, are those uploaded to match automatically?
3) I'm sure this one has been answered already...but, can my wife and I use the same match library on two separate devices?

Locate the "DEVICES" menu in the left column of iTunes, and click on the name of your iPod. This should display the "Summary" tab, giving you information about the iPod. Scroll down until you see a check box that says "Open iTunes when this iPod is Connected," and uncheck it. This will stop the iPod from automatically syncing. Good luck

Question on BIEE Answers

I am trying to build data in the physical layer, business model and mapping as well as presentation layer in BIEE 11g.
Now, I have 3 relational tables like this,
1. Account (Parent, Child)
2. Year (Parent, Child)
3. Data (Account, Year, Amount).
So what I did is to firstly do a physical join in the physical layer 1st. After that, I created two logical dimensions using parent-child hierarchies for Account and Year, which essentially produced two additional tables namely AccountDim and YearDim.
Note that in the Business Model and Mapping, I joined Account,Year and Data using FULL OUTER JOIN, since I would like to show those accounts without any entry in the Data table as well.
Now, when it comes to answer, for PIVOT TABLE
1st, I tried to put AccountDim in row, with Amount in Column, it works perfectly well.

Within the Business Model and Mapping section make a duplicate of the column you are wanting to count and then double click on the table name under Sources. On the Column Mapping tab find the new columns you duplicated and modify the expression to calculate the number of days. Performing the calculation here will cause it to be resolved against the database which is your quickest option if you don't handle it in the ETL.
Here are the expressions to use...
for the first new column...CASE WHEN TIMESTAMPDIFF(SQL_TSI_DAY, START_DATE, END_DATE) between 1 and 10 THEN 'The column you want to count' END
For the second new metric you would build it the same way and the expression would look like this...
CASE WHEN TIMESTAMPDIFF(SQL_TSI_DAY, START_DATE, END_DATE) between 11 and 20 THEN 'The column you want to count' END

It's my pleasure to be a part of such a wonderful forum. Today, I am here to learn JSP, Servlets, and related tech/frameworks.
I'd be thankful to any member who can guide me in the right direction.
I have good working knowledge of Core java.
I have a licensed copy of weblogic 9.2, though I have no idea how it works :).
Looking forward for some good pointers to start with. If anyone can hand hold me and tell me exercises I should do every day, there is nothing like that. I can dedicate in excess of 6 hrs daily to learn these new technologies.

When I say that Weblogic is commonly only used in "real" production environments, I do not mean that "real" production environments only use Weblogic. Question - New to Flash

I am new to flash and building a simple picture slideshow with buttons for the next frame and previous frame to use on a website. I have two questions. 1. How do I get the pictures to start over at the beginning once I get to the last frame? Right now I can only got forward or backward. 2. I tried to use a video clip in the last keyframe and when I test the movie in Flash it works fine but when I posted the .swf file to the website all of the pictures played except the video clip. I am using the following action script:

I am a complete rookie. Any help would be much appreciated. Also any recommendation on where to learn to work with action script would be useful

It looks like you are working with ActionScript 2.0 here where you would actually be hoping to integrate ActionScript
3.0 and above (3.0 is the latest out right now). The two types of AS are very different in structure and 3.0 is much more like JavaScript and other ECMA scripting languages that incorporate Object Oriented Programming (OOP). I don't know a lot about OOP other than it can be used to house Classes and call upon them in an organized fashion to save you a lot of coding in the long haul. Don't worry about OOP right now.
Where you should be looking for resources are online and in books. There are lots and lots of books about ActionScript 3.0--just check your favorite online book retailer and also do a web search for ActionScript 3.0 tutorials. You will probably find one that will explain how to code the logic for you to return to the first frame of your timeline and continue going in the forward direction and vice versa if you were rewinding and wanted to loop to the last frame and continue going in the backward direction of your timeline.
Also, there is the ActionScript 3.0 Reference Manual which ships with Flash and will allow you to look through code examples. Just go to your Help menu for Flash Help.
