  • Dataguard switchover & failover testing

i want to build new physical & logical dbs just for testing & learning, as per menalink notes 736863.1 & 748595.1
wondering that configuration will let me test switchover & failover testing?

    Hi there,
Those notes help you to build a proper data guard configuration in both Physical and Logical Standby enviromnment.
I would also recommend to check:
    - [The Oracle online documentation|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/toc.htm]
    - [Oracle Maximum Availability Architecture site on OTN|http://www.oracle.com/technology/deploy/availability/htdocs/maa.htm]
These documents can provide a big picture of Data Guard configurations from different approaches as well as I would also recommend to learn and practice more advanced techniques and features such as Flasback database, Fast-start-failover or Cascaded destinations.
    Hope this helps,
    Good luck and regards,

  • Failover Cluster testing - not working

    Hello
We are trying to perform failover testing on OC4J clusters. We have two nodes clustered. On each node we have installed SOA suite - four OC4J instances (home, oc4J_soa, oc4j_wsm, and oc4j_esbdt).
This is how we are performing the test:
We have deployed servlet on both oc4j_soa with different application names but with same context-root. We have observed following behavior.
    1) In mod_oc4j.conf file , we have "Oc4jSelectMethod roundrobin:local".
So when we hit http://<loadbalancer>/<context-root-for-servlet> it works fine in roundrobin fashion. We have set the HTML page title as node name in servlets.
And so we see Node 1 title one time and Node 2 title the other time.
    2) Now if I undeploy the servlet from Node 1 and hit http://<loadbalancer>/<context-root-for-servlet> It doen't work one time (gives HTTP 500 error) and it works the other time.
ie. it is still sending one request to Node 1 and other request to Node 2.
well, it should not do this right ? if my application is down/not available on Node 1 , all request should go to Node 2.
    3) Also what i have observed is , when we hit the Nodes' http url directly instead of going through the loadbalancer it crisscross the requests.
ie. http://NODE 1/<context-root-for-servlet> - this one always goes to Node 2
    and http://NODE 2/<context-root-for-servlet> - always goes to Node 1
    This is something weird.
Anybody has any idea , please ? I am not sure why are we getting unexpected behavior mentioned 2) and 3 )
Please let me know if you need anything about config details.
    Thanks
    /Mishit

    2) I hope there is a Hardware LBR front ending this architecture ... If yes then HW LBR have intelligent death detection mechanisms where in if Node 1 crashes it stops serving requests to the failed node until it is back online .... so this setting is more at the LBR then at mod_oc4j.conf
    3) If load balancing is configured correctly, I dont think u shud be getting this issue..
To test load balancing you can do as below:
    - Ensure Virtual host configuration is done in Apache of both nodes
    - Ensure Virtual host entry is added to /etc/hosts
    Like on Node 1 /etc/hosts
    <Node 2 IP> <Virtual hostname>
    Similarly on Node 2 /etc/hosts
    <Node 1 IP> < Virtual hostname>
    - Give Virtual URL to your LBR guy and he will do the settings in LBR
    - Bring down node 1 keeping node 2 alive & check below:
    http://<virtualURL>/contextroot
    http://<node2>/contextroot
    - Similarly bring down node 2 keeping node 1 alive & check below:
    http://<virtualURL>/contextroot
    http://<node1>/contextroot

  • Failover did not happen when network switch went down!!! PLEASE HELP

    Hi gurus,
Yesterday one disaster struck my RAC database. We have two node cluster and it is 10.2.0.2, both of them located in different sites, yesterday suddenly power went down and the one of the network switch went down and got destructed, node one of RAC database was connected to that switch, but the failover did not happen to the node two as this should be the case when one node goes down the other should be available for all the node one sessions/connections.
when I tried to ping/telnet the node 1, it was not happening because the switch was down, the network guyz connected the cables to other switch available. When I connected to the node 1, it was showing "Oracle is not available" message.
And when I tried the other node, it was the same case but I did not see any error in alert log file. Then my TL restarted both the nodes and then the database was available.
I am very confused that how the failover did not happen and how the database went down, PLEASE suggest something to how to identifiy what was happened. Thanks & Regards

About Oracle RAC ... you have 2 nodes ... You have to connect 4 IPs.
    I mean
    - IP public node1
    - IP public node2
    - IP Virtual node1
    - IP Virtual node2
    When node1 down
You can not ping "IP public node1", but you should ping "- IP Virtual node1", because it should up on node2.
    But not bind 1521 port.
    Idea about failover
you have to create new difference Service...on RAC Database!
and on your client have to set TNS to on failover and balance (if you used OCI), you can use TAF feature
    Example:
    DB =
    (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = db01-vip)(PORT = 1521)) (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = db02-vip)(PORT = 1521)) (FAILOVER=ON)(LOAD_BALANCE = yes) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVER = DEDICATED) (SERVICE_NAME = NEW_SERVICE_DB) (FAILOVER_MODE = (TYPE = SELECT) (METHOD = BASIC) (RETRIES = 180) (DELAY = 5))))
If you use JDBC, can not use TAF.
Anyway, I suggest you read more about RAC on http://otn.oracle.com/rac and http://oracleracsig.org
    Good Luck

  • Sap not starting during manual failover testing

    Dera friends,
We are performing manual failover testing between CI(sap central instance) and DB(oracle database)
the environment is ECC6.0 on AIX server
CI is running on one server and DB is running on another, during manual testing we have failed the DB, so now DB file systems has got mounted on CI server.

ABAP Database IRP must be started on remote server
    ===============================================
why am i getting this "ABAP Database IRP must be started on remote server" message.
What could be the cause for my database not comming up & why is it looking for remote server, when all the DB filesystems have got mounted on CI server (the server that has CI installed)
We are in a bad shape and the issue is quite crticial.
Your reply would be highly appreciated.

Ayush, no offense, but I suggest you contact your AIX guy and check with him together. It's very cumbersome to write down command by command, get the outpu t back and you have no clue what you are doing. Again, no offense.

  • N+1 5508 WLC failover test

    Good day all,
I have a question about the N+1 5508 failover test:
Should I shutdown one of the primary WLC to test failover?
    I just setup the N+1 bakcup WLC (5508). B
    Based on: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/technology/hi_avail/N1_High_Availability_Deployment_Guide.pdf
We have two production WLCs both 5508 and one 4405.
We just purchased another HA-SKU WLC 5508.
All our four WLCs had been setup into one mobility group in version 7.4.100.6.
    Their neighbors are all up.
But our test AP could not register to the Backup N+1 WLC. ( We are using option 43 in our DHCP server for all the AP boot.)

  • VIP Failover Testing

    Hello,
Am new to Oracle RAC. We have a 2 node 11gR2 Cluster and we are in the process of doing some failover testing. For database deployments we use an internal third part tool called the deployer which has tokens for DB configurations and the DBHost token in the deployer has the Hostname for either Node 1 or Node 2. In this way we are not actually utilising the HA feature because the connection is either to Node1 or Node 2 and if something happens to either the deployment cannot connect to the database on the respective Node which treats as a single Node instead of a Cluster.
Instead of mentioning the DBHost value to point to the Physical Hostname of the Server in a Cluster I was thinking if I can use the VIP address i.e ipaddress-VIP for either of the Node. So after making changes I would like to do some failover testing manually and I am stuck here. How do I go about the testing scenarios.
For Eg: if DBHOST token value is VIP for Node 2, connections are coming in to Node2 via deployer how do I proceed with the testing
Should I bring down Node 2? If I reboot how can I see if it failed over or not to the surviving Node?
    Any help/suggestions much appreciated.
    Thanks!

What you describe is having a RAC cluster, possibly working possibly not, and no actual use of the value of the licensing you paid for.
My first advice to you is to read the docs and learn what RAC is, how it works, how to define and use services, and how a properly configured LISTENER.ORA and TNSNAMES.ORA should be constructed so you can compare that to what you have. With 11gR2 you should connect to the SCAN not the VIP.
Here's how I would test RAC:
    1. Walk up to one of the servers while half the users are connected to each instance and do a SHUTDOWN ABORT. See what happens. Restart the killed node. Try it with the other node.
    2. With everything running properly and load on both machines disconnect the switch that provides the cache fusion interconnect or pull one of the cables out of the server. When you reestablish the connection what happens?
    3. Repeat #2 but this time with the connection to storage.
The above should get you started.

  • Failover is not working in clustering

we installed infrastructure in the one system and added 2 instances app1.mycompany.com,app2.mycompany.com into it.
for loadbalancing we r using webcache.
we configured origin servers, site definitions,site-server mappings.
in the cluster two instances showing up.
that we can see in health monitor in Up/Down* parameter of web cache administrator console.
we deployed same ear in two instances.
but when i down one instance say app1.mycompany.com,
In the health monitor its not showing up DOWN parameter for host: app1.mycompany.com.same for UP also.
immediately its not showing changes when i am testing failover.
Is webcache loadbalancing is Round robin based ?
when i down one of the instances session replication is not happening properly.sometimes session expired is coming.
when 2 instances r up if user access application all the requests r coming to one instance if down that instance session expired is coming.
i think failover is not working in clustering.
i checked replication properties and added <distributable> tag in both the instances.
in webcache console page what will sessionbinding will do?i have not configured anything.

    Why are you using Webcache?
Web cache will certainly work, but its more common role is to more access as a simple load balancer over HTTP servers, not OC4J instances.
What I'd do is to simplify your situation to verify you have the server setup correctly.
That means using the Oracle HTTP Server which will be part of your cluster as the common routing point. OHS and mod_oc4j are session state aware and know about all the OC4J instances. In the situation where an OC4J instance dies for some reason, mod_oc4j will know to which other OC4J instance(s) the request can be routed to pickup the replicated session state.
Once you have verified that the failover is working on the backend, you can then configure another OHS instance and position webcache in front of them to act as a request router and failover handler for when the OHS instances are inactive.
The Enterprise Deployment Guide offers some guidance in typical architectures, well worth a read.

  • Failover did not happen when one node went down!!! PLEASE HELP

    Hi gurus,
Yesterday one disaster struck my RAC database.

    Thanks for your reply,
after the network switch was replaced we connected to both the nodes and found that the instances are down with no reason given in the Alertlog file. We just restarted both the instances and then the database was up and the clients connected to both the instances with equal sessions on both the instances. I want to know that whether the failover can be done at the application side or it should be done on the database side i,e; in tnsnames.ora file with the required parameters? as in our scenario there is no failover configuration in the tnsnames.ora file.
    Thanks & Regards

  • Ise failover test

As part of an ISE implementation, I want to test ISE failover for Admin, MnT, and PSN personas.  Does anyone have an ISE failover test plan or ISE failover test best practices documentation to share?
    Thanks much,
    David Daverso

Steps for Administration persona failover testing
    1. Stop ISE services on Primary Admin
    Primary Admin# application stop ise
    2. Log in to the Secondary Admin GUI and manually promote to Primary
    3. Wait 10-15 minutes before process is complete
    4. Verify ISE services are up on promoted Secondary Admin
Secondary Admin# sh application status ise
    5. Promoted Primary Admin checks
Deployment pages shows all nodes are green and in synch
    6. User testing to verify successful authentications and logging
    Note:
After you promote your secondary Administration node to become the primary Administration
node, you must reconfigure your scheduled Cisco ISE backups in the newly promoted primary
    Administration node
because scheduled backups are not replicated from the primary to secondary Administration
    node.
    7. After step 6 testing is complete restore original Primary Admin
    8. Start ISE services on original Primary Admin
    Primary Admin# application start ise
    9. Verify ISE services are up on original Primary Admin
Primary Admin# sh application status ise
    10. Promoted Primary Admin checks

  • Exchange 2010 DAG Failover does not works

    Hi Experts,
I have a Exchange 2010 setup in  a DAG environment. We have 2 MBX servers in the main site and 1 MBX server in the DR site , all part of one DAG. We have 2 HUB/CAS servers in the main site and 1 HUB/CAS server in the DR site.
Recently we had to do our BCP test for audit purpose. We had issues in doing failover to the DR site and below is the error faced.
Please advise urgently on the possible causes and resolution steps for it as we need to do this test again on the coming weekend.
"EvictDagClusterNode got exception Microsoft.Exchange.Cluster.Replay.AmClusterEvictWithoutCleanupException: An Active Manager operation failed. Error An error
occurred while attempting a cluster operation. Error: Evict node 'sme-ho-mbx01' returned without the node being fully cleaned up. Please run cluster.exe node <NodeName> /forcecleanup to complete clean up for this node.. ---> System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception:
    The wait operation timed out"
So, basically one of the MBX server was not evicting from the Cluster due to which failover did not work.
Would appreciate some urgent thoughts for the possible resolution.
    regards

    Hi,
Yes, you can run the Stop-DatabaseAvailabilityGroup without shutting down the Mailbox server. During the process of DAG failover to DR site, the Stop-DatabaseAvailabilityGroup cmdlet should be run against all servers in the primary datacenter. If the Mailbox
server is unavailable but Active Directory is operating in the primary datacenter, the Stop-DatabaseAvailabilityGroup command with the ConfigurationOnly parameter must be run against all servers in this state in the primary datacenter.
And please note that the Stop-DatabaseAvailabilityGroup cmdlet can be run against a DAG only when the DAG is configured with a DatacenterActivationMode value of DagOnly.
Based on the error message, it seems that you should run the cluster node nodename /forcecleanup cmdlet against the specified node in the main site. Have you tried this to check the result?

  • Redundancy/failover testing

My company is a relatively small enterprise (about 800 people scattered across 45-50 branches) and we are planning on setting up a periodic failover/redundancy testing schedule for our routers. Basically, we want to test the secondary WAN links at our branch offices and test our redundancy in our data centers.
I'm sure there is plenty of documentation out there in regards to best practices, but what I find has more to do with a full DR test of a enterprise's systems, as opposed to a simple failover test of an office's WAN link.
Does anyone have good suggestions for how often you should run these tests? My original thinking is to do this every quarter, but this would involve some travel for us and our resources are slim. The branch offices can be done remotely without any issue, but our DR site (which is actually used for some production traffic) would probably require one of our staff to be on site during a redundancy test.
    Thanks!

Yep, that's what I did now.
But keep in mind this is not really explained, even if crossing all the documentations.
There is no document explaining what behaviour to expect in Jabber in case of redundancy of all the UC components.
For the CUCM, it's not clear, and nothing is mentionned in case of MRA.
IM&P is documented, but nothing for MRA.
Expressays states about redundancy, but the behaviour to expect is not. Same for XMPP federation, no idea.
UnityConnection as well, nothing is explained.

  • Recreate standby after failover test

    Hi -
I'm doing a failover test for the customer:
    1. Disconnect all network between Primary and Standby
    2. On the Standby - do a failover and open it to perform application tests.
    3. After finish we need to re-create Standby again.
Is there a way to re-create Standby again without bringing it all from backup? it's a large 2TB database and it will take hours.
Is there a way like using flashback or other technology to do it?
    We are talking 10.2.0.3 here...
    Thanks

We are talking 10.2.0.3 here...Its called "open the Standby database in read write mode for any reporting or testing and then move it back to standby database using the flashback technology".
In detail check this MOS note *How To Open Physical Standby For Read Write Testing and Flashback [ID 805438.1]*

  • IPad 2 switched off and not charging after iOS 7.1 update

iPad 2 switched off and not charging after iOS 7.1 update. Pls help me. I have tested my charger. Its working in another device. But my iPad 2 is not charging with other adapters too. What to do??

    Hello, 92.romil.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I would make sure you are using an Apple branded cable with your iPad.  If you are, the troubleshooting steps in the article below may help.  The steps listed below for the iPhone and iPod still apply to your iPad.
    Resolving issues
If your battery doesn't charge, or if your device shows a low-battery image, black screen, or "accessory not supported" alert, follow these steps.
Inspect the connector at the bottom of the phone:
Make sure that there are no bent pins in the connector.
Make sure that the connector is free from debris.
If there are bent pins or debris, please contact Apple Support.
    Otherwise, continue troubleshooting.
Make sure that the outlet you're using works.
Make sure that the Apple USB cable and Apple USB power adapter work.
Plug the device in to power and let it charge for up to 30 minutes. If you don't have an Apple USB power adapter, try connecting to a computer's high-power USB 2.0 port (not a keyboard). The computer must be on.
If the device still exhibits an issue, try turning your device off and then on again while connected to power.
If the issue is persists, please contact Apple Support.

  • Failover test programs

    Hi all,
I am creating a failover test script that is simple and is doing insert 1 row every 2 seconds.
Then we fail the node1 and check if it will continue to insert on node2.
My script is using sqlnet client connect. for example :
    connect scott/tiger@TEST
So I still need to install oracle client on my laptop.
I want to create a script that will not need Oracle client or tns names.ora in my laptop. How do I do it?
I want it to behave like what the sqldeveloper do in which no tns names is needed and uses the parameter: hostame: port: SID
    Thanks a lot,

You could write a Java program that uses JDBC to connect - that would be one way.Can you share a sample java program that behave like sqldev? and rides on it? becuase I do not want to install other tools.
    ThanksHere's a simple Java program. Just compile it with javac, set your CLASSPATH to include ojdbc.jar, and run it with java:import java.sql.*;
