Dataguard switch over connection

Hi all,
suppose we configured dataguard in high protection mode. Now all the users are connecting to primary database.
Primary netservice name is prim and standby netservice name is stand,
Now if we switch over this primary database to standby and standby to primary to which database users are going to connect. how they connect to current primary database (previously it was standby).
How application will connect to the primary database (previously it was standby). all the applications will be using prim netservice name right...? what would be stuff from dba's end.
Please let me know.
Thank you!

  • Post switch over in oracle dataguard 11g

    Dear Guru,
    Switch over has been completed successfully from primary database to standby database.
    new primaray database is open and accessible but its showing his satus in v$database as below.
    database_role = primary
    switchover_status = not allowed
    db_unique_name = dg1_stdby
    old primaray database which is now standby showing his satus in v$database as below.
    database_role = physical standby
    switchover_status = session active
    db_unique_name = dg1_primy
    when check status in data guard broker its
    for both the databases - dg1_primy and dg1_stdby its showing error ORA-16810: multiple errors or warnings detected for the database.
    when checked dataguard log file on new primary server its showing
    ORA-16816: incorrect database role
    ORA-16700: the standby database has diverged from the primary database
    Please guide me how to resolved issue.
    Thanks & Regards,

    Hi Nikunj,
    You can find the scenario, in the "Problem : Data Guard Broker Switchover fails With ORA-16665 using Active Data Guard", on metalink.oracle.com
    First of all manually complete the Switchover, ie. restart the Databases in its new Role. Note that the final Role Change has not been recognized by the Broker, so you have to rebuild the Data Guard Broker Configuration when the Databases have been restarted:
    DGMGRL> remove configuration;
    DGMGRL> create configuration ...
    DGMGRL> add database ...
    DGMGRL> enable configuration;

  • My phone is not switching from 4G over to WiFi. The phone has the network memorized its just not check marking the network and to switch over to WiFi. How can I fix this?

    I have the iPhone 4S and the wifi was working on it earlier yesterday. I noticed that the wifi didn't kick on last night. It has the network memorized so it could connect automatically. The network name pops up and there's a signal but the spinning circle thing is there and it won't put a check mark by the network name. The wifi will pop up every now and then but only stay for a minute or less. Everyone else's phone and computer is connecting just fine but mine isn't. It won't switch over to WiFi from 4G. I've tried turning off the wifi on my phone. I've tried to forget the network and put in the password numerous of times and I tried to fix it by turning my phone on and off and that still didn't work. I'm hoping that this is a temporary thing but I don't know. What's a good way to fix this because seriously I would like to not use up all of my data for this kind of bull crap. So what's a good way to fix this?

    I got the ATV hooked up to the WiFi after manually inputting the DHCP settings.
    The ATV will not see iTunes from a PC on the same iTune network.  I guess you need an Apple computer for iTunes to connect to the ATV.
    The biggest problem is that the iTunes store on the ATV is nonexistent I imagine because of competition/ monopolies in the UAE.  If I was in Lao, Burma, Thailand, Mozambique no problem.  40 Countries are listed and non of them are from the Middle East.  When I logon to the iTunes store on my PC it too does not allow for me to buy any movies or TV shows.  I am not sure why.
    As for the iPad OS6, iTunes has an icon and when you click it you get iTune U or Podcast, no video content.  The App store works fine and they are always happy to take your money but no video content.
    To top it all off YouTube is no longer licensed under OS6.0 and although I can get it on Google Chrome it is by no means as quick (for reasons unknown).
    As I said before if I choose United States as my country the ATV hooks up and lets me browse TV and movies and watch trailers but not able to purchase (obviously).
    So my conclusion is that ATV will not hook up to the iTune store in the UAE?  If this is incorrect please clue me in.

  • Switch over from active to passive in the cluster

    If online EMS Sun Server goes off line , the client looses the connectivity with EMS till the IP address of the other online server is updated in client PC.
    When the servers switch over from active to passive in the cluster, we have to change the server IP settings at the client PC manually. Since both the active as well as the passive servers will be pinging, we are not in a position to identify the active/passive servers, so automatic server setting is not possible at the client.
    How to find out the solution for which server is active when the swich over is happend.

    Hi Kristoffer,
    remember to click on enable schedule when you schedule a package.
    To know if a scheduled package is ok you can see first if present in the tblschedule of your appset and also if present in the windows task schedulerif with status "ready".
    After you just have to check the view status if you found the package execution completed you're sure it's running. " version at the same time can cause issues also with different packages better to schedule with a sufficient delay to be sure that the first has ended, in your case 1 package is ok.
    I would delete the 2 packages from bpc, checking also the windows scheduler to be sure that no packages are running and rebuild one from scratch setting repeat every 4 hours and checking "enable schedule".

    Hello Kiira Doon,
    The troubleshooting steps detailed below may help get your iPhone's display to function.
    Toggle the ringer switch to see if the unit vibrates. If it does, it could be that iPhone is getting power, but is not displaying any image.
    Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
    While connected to the iPhone charger, try to reset the iPhone.
    If the low-battery screen appears, charge the iPhone.
    My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?Contact Apple Support.

    Edited by: Autoconfig on Feb 1, 2011 8:12 PM

    Hi,
    First you have to resolve the error you are getting so make sure archiving should not happen from primary to standby because you started recovery,once your recovery is completed.
    Than follow the below steps:
    IN mount stage:
    SQL> alter database commit to switchover to physical standby;
    select switchover_status from v$database;
    SQL> select switchover_status from v$database;
    SWITCHOVER_STATUS
    TO PRIMARY
    SQL> alter database commit to switchover to primary;
    Database altered.
    SQL> select switchover_status from v$database;
    SWITCHOVER_STATUS
    TO STANDBY
    If it is production database raise an SR.Hope it helps.
    Best regards,

  • Help required how to make automatic switch over on RAC2

    Hello Support,
    We have 11g R1 on windows 2003.
    User complained if node 1 of OracleRAC1 gets down, automatic switch over to RAC2 is not occuring and connection error occured.
    What steps to see, in order to make sure it should be performed automatically please?
    Thanks

    Hi Billy,
    TAF is a service ? Can it be connected on Apache Tomcat application server
    Oracle version 11.1.0.6
    Users are connect via Tomcat Application server with Oracle RAC having 2 nodes in it.
    Users don't receive data if node 1 (RAC1) goes down. connection error message.
    Where as if RAC2 is down user can still connect to RAC1 and can retrieve data.
    Outside note- I want to understand the difference with Public and VIP of Oracle. My current understanding and correct me if I'm wrong, users are connected with RAC1 Public IP and in case of failure , VIP of RAC1 take over and eventually RAC2 and so on....
    Thanks

  • Problem in TMS config after switch over to DR site

    Hi All,
    We resently switch over our primary to DR. I am not able to do the transportations. I have made changes to all neccessary RFC connections and tested, working fine. If i click on Distribute and activate button it is not getting activate. Can some body please help to resolve this issue without deleting the existing config. I have some unneccesary clients in the TMS config, we have deleted those clients but still they are showing in transport routes view. may be because of this The distribute and activate button is not working.. Can some one help please ASAP. this  is our production issue..
    Thanks advance,
    Dev.

    Hi Dev,
    Here in this case no need to delete entire TMS configuration for all systems.
    If your landscape is 3 system, then just delete your existing PRO system from Development(whatever your Domain controller) and come to DR login with ddic in 000 clinet and add the same system in existing domain controller.
    There is no need to delete entire configuration of STMS. just you need to add new system to existing landscape.

  • Outlook not switched over to active DAG member after failover

    I have a 2 server DAG stretched across sites for DR.  Both of these servers are multi-role and have the HT, CAS, and MBOX roles.  Everything with the DAG seems to be working fine, as does what turned out to be an accidental failover to the remote
    site.  A fail back also went fairly smoothly.
    However, I've now discovered that some Outlook clients switched over to the DR server automatically and now they will not switch back.  I will come out right away and say that I do not have a CAS array.  I just learned about the CAS array while
    researching the problem.  After refreshing my own mailbox profile, everything swapped back, but obviously I don't want to go around everywhere making that change.  I don't even know how many people are still connecting to the DR server.  In
    fact, the only problem with the people that are connecting to the DR server is a little extra latency.
    Obviously, I would like this to work better, and would like a good way to get the outlook users swapped back to where they should be right now.

    There is a public folder and it is on the same server as the mailboxes.

  • Manual switch over for maintenance

    Hi experts:
    Following are the steps for Manual Switch over from primary to standby
    connect /@PRIM as sysdba
    ALTER DATABASE COMMIT TO SWITCHOVER TO PHYSICAL STANDBY WITH SESSION SHUTDOWN;
    connect /@STAN as sysdba
    ALTER DATABASE COMMIT TO SWITCHOVER TO PRIMARY;
    ON previous primary
    SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE;
    SQL>STARTUP MOUNT;
    New Primary (previous stand by )
    ALTER DATABASE OPEN;
    I have primary & standby with protection mode maximize availability
    How can I vice versa the above process lets say my primary is down for maintenance & i want this as my primary again ?
    one more thing is that reports are generated from standby right now so it mean active dg is configured.
    Regards

    Hello;
    Try to remember if you databases are in sync its kind of like having one database in two different roles, Primary role and Standby role.
    Also if you want to do maintenance then don't issue this command after switchover, wait until the maintenance is complete and then issue it and Data Guard will catch up :
    alter system set log_archive_dest_state_2=enable;Once you have done a switchover its a good idea to do a log switch and make sure the new primary and standby are working correctly. Once you have done that the step to switch back are as follows : ( Do not use if you have Data Guard Broker setup )
    h3. Verify that it is possible to perform a switchover operation.
    SQL> select switchover_status from v$database;
    Note:All v$database switchover_status values are shown at the bottom of this page.
    If SWITCHOVER_STATUS returns SESSIONS ACTIVE then you should either
    disconnect all sessions manually or when performing step 2 you should append
    the with session shutdown clause. For example:
    SQL> alter database commit to switchover to standby with session shutdown;h3. Convert the primary database to the new standby
    SQL> alter database commit to switchover to standby with session shutdown;
    Note: This might take a few minutes.h3. Shutdown the former primary and mount as a standby database
    SQL> shutdown immediate
    Note: An ORA-01507: database not mounted is normal
    SQL> startup nomount
    SQL> alter database mount standby database;h3. Defer the remote archive destination on the old primary
    SQL> alter system set log_archive_dest_state_2=defer;h3. Verify that the physical standby can be converted to the new primary
    QL> select switchover_status from v$database;
    SWITCHOVER_STATUS
    TO PRIMARY
    Note that if the status returns SESSIONS ACTIVE then you should append the with session shutdown clause to the command in step 6.h3. Convert the physical standby to the new primary ( step 6 )
    SQL> alter database commit to switchover to primary;h3. Shutdown and startup the new primary
    SQL> shutdown immediate
    ORA-01109: database not open
    SQL> startuph3. Enable remote archiving on the new primary to the new standby
    SQL> alter system set log_archive_dest_state_2=enable;h3. Start managed recover on the new standby database
    SQL> recover managed standby database disconnect;
    Media recovery complete.
    SQL>
    Note: It’s a good idea to perform a log switch on the new primary.
    SQL>alter system switch logfile;Best Regards

  • EEM -automatic shut down or switch over of WAN link in OSPF when packet drop increase

    Hi,
    Need help..
    can any one help me how can EEM help for automatic shut down or switch over of WAN link in OSPF when packet drop increase a predefined level.
    I have a set up different branches connected together...OSPF is the routing protocol and need to communicate with two branches via hub locations.
    need to shut or switch some percent of traffic from primary to back up when packet drop in the link.

    I am not sure EEM can do what you want.
    Another option could be to use SLA tacking/monitoring. But you will fall back to the new route when you lose some percentage of pings, you can't switch only part of the traffic.
    I hope it helps.

  • Reposting: Chassis Management Module (CMM) Fails to Switch Over

    This post was originally posted on IBM’s developerWorks public forum (https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/community/forums/html/topic?id=f9164eb4-1a74-42b3-8348-28dfa24caf...  The following is a summary of the post issue and the response.
    Issue:
    I'm facing an issue regarding the PureFlex Chassis Management Module (CMM) failover scenario such that I have two CMM’s installed in a single chassis connected to two ports of a switch.
    When accessing the CMM through the IP address, the CMM is accessible.
    However, when the switch port connected to the active CMM is shutdown or disconnected, the CMM is not failing over to Standby and there is no ping response to CMM.
    What is causing this behavior and how do I resolve it?

    Ah, ok. I was in the assumption the PCI connect had something to do with the video connection. But it seems like Apple wanted to reinvented PCIe...
    I'm out of my territory here so feel free to ignore the following.
    These are the things I notice in your Xorg.0.log:
    [    19.474] (==) modesetting(G0): Depth 24, (==) framebuffer bpp 32
    [    19.474] (==) modesetting(G0): RGB weight 888
    [    19.474] (==) modesetting(G0): Default visual is TrueColor
    [    19.474] (II) modesetting(G0): ShadowFB: preferred YES, enabled YES
    [    19.500] (II) modesetting(G0): Output VGA-1-0 has no monitor section

    [    19.526] (II) modesetting(G0): Using default gamma of (1.0, 1.0, 1.0) unless otherwise stated.
    [    19.526] (==) modesetting(G0): DPI set to (96, 96)
    What the hell is modesetting doing there?
    And have you tried the nvidia blob? It could be that this is not well supported by nouveau. Maybe check up with their IRC / mailing list.

  • 5800 wlan switch over

    Dear Nokia Friends,
    I am wondering if there is any way to set up my 5800 to work as below
    1) When phone is within the known wi-fi network coverage it stays online via available wi-fi
    2) When phone is out of wi-fi ( I am leaving home/ office etc ) then it automatically switches over to 3G data connection.
    I would like to stay connected 24/7 but save data traffic costs at the same time.
    Thanks in advance !

    If you go to Menu > Settings > Connectivity >Destinations > Internet - is WLAN = Prioriy 1 and network access point = Priority 2?
    If not highlight access point you want to be Priority 1 > Options > Organise > Change priority and then touch whatever is in Priority 1 spot and it will jump to top of the list.
