Dataguard sync

Just did a check on my primary and standby using:
Primary:
SELECT max(sequence#) AS "PRIMARY" FROM v$log_history;
PRIMARY
45527
Standby:
SELECT max(sequence#) AS "STANDBY", applied FROM v$archived_log GROUP BY applied:
STANDBY APP
45476 NO
45528 YES
My question is how do I fix my sync?

Hopefully you have Standby Redo Log (SRL) files on the standby. A SELECT GROUP#, SEQUENCE#, STATUS FROM V$STANDBY_LOG; will tell you.
When the output from V$MANAGED_STANDBY says that the MRP is waiting on the log sequence that is coming in with LGWR as the Client Process it means that you either do not have SRLs or you do but you have forgotten the USING CURRENT LOGFILE clause on the ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE USING CURRENT LOGFILE DISCONNECT;
If you have the Broker enabled then it will do that by default if you have SRLs.

  • Steps to sync RAC -dataguard

    Hi folks,
    I m having setup with 2 node RAC primary and 2 node RAC Dataguard on 10.2.0.4.0. Dataguard setup is working fine. Dataguard is setup with Standby Redo log group with managed recovery. Due to network issue network issue the transferring archives & applying on standby couldnot take place.The network issue is sorted but now the primary and standby are not in sync.
    I am new with RAC and dataguard combined.Can you proivde suitable document or steps how i can manually sync both.

  • Physical Standby re-sync

    I have gone through the following link in order to re-sync my physical standby with the primary db . The physical standby had nearly 2500 archive log gap but resolved based on below link :

    The above is valid only for 10gr2 or above but in Oracle 10gr1(10.1.0) i am not able to take the primary db backup based on SCN . Could anyone let me know whether there is any alternative for it? I know 10gr1 is outdated but we have already planned for upgrade in near future but for current situation I have to re-sync my standby with the primary and the standby has nearly 2000 archive log to be applied . We dont have enough space for restoration of archivelogs. It was unfortunate that I have not monitored the standby.
    Oracle DB version : 10.1.0.3

    As you said this feature is available starting from *10gR2* only
    AFAIK, you have to either restore those archives (or) re-create standby database.
    If you do not have much space, try to restore less number of archives, apply them later you can clean up & again start restore. its hectic.
    So it depends on your log file size , lets suppose 50mb then
    2000 * 50mb = 100000 mb(~100gb) , its painful, Check what is database size. Then compare which will be quicker.

  • Database recovery (online redolog ?)

    hi all,
    Been awhile since i touch on oracle db, i have been reading around and the emphasis for recovery is always on the backup and archivelog, but i think its wrong.
    can i check ->
    q1) for full database recovery, do i need the online redo log as well ?
    q2) if the answer to q1) is yes, how do i duplicate online redo log to standby site ? (i don't think rsync will work as it cannot sure consistency in the redolog)
    will oracle dataguard sync online redolog as well ?
    q3) for archivelog, beside manual rsyncing, LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2 = 'SERVICE=standby1'
    do i need the enterprise edition for the above ?

    q1) For a complete recovery, yes you need online redolog as well. Without online redolog,its still considered incomplete recovery since u lose data resides in online redolog
    q2) You no need to synch online redo log manually. Once the backup is restored to the DR dataguard site and MRP process initiated, Oracle will synch online redolog/archivelog automatically based on protection mode specified
    q3) Oracle dataguard applies to Enterprise Edition only. Without Enterprise Edition, we can configure log shipping (manual way).

    I m studying dataguard, but I m having confusion in parameter SYNC, ASYNC, AFFIRM, NOAFFIRM. Please explain how these parameters affect the Primary/Standby Databases.

    HI,
    SYNC, ASYNC,AFFIRM, NOAFFIRMthese are basically used in which mode your standby is running.
    In maximum protection & availibilty mode the logs from Primary DB are shipped synchronously and shipped to standby.
    lgwr writes it synchronously .
    In Maximum performance mode asynchronously logs ar shipped by archiver or lgwr.(asynch. only if lgwr).

  • V$archived noy sync in Dataguard

    My question is about a doubt that I had y my Dataguard.
    Few days ago I did a scn incremental restore in order to sync Primary and Standby instances, the problem is v$archived_log is not updated. Let me show you

    Hello;
    If I understand the question correctly its because of how you query v$archived_log. The max(sequence#) hurts the query because it does not allow you see the different values of DEST_ID.
    Try changing the query to include DEST_ID and use WHERE sysdate > -1 ( on one of the date columns ) to see a smaller range.

  • Unable to resync dataguard

    Hi everybody!
    I have a problem. Some weeks ago I opened a post related to this issue. We have two dataguards with dataguard broker. One of them is resync (thanks to mseberg and this forum) and now I have problems with the other.
    Once I have learned how to configure and start/stop dataguard broker, I have a more basic problem, which is to resync it. I follow a process, where I backup the primary with RMAN, I copy the rman files to the other server with the controlfile, at once, I recover with rman again.
    The problem is that it is too big, 2 hours for backing it up more or less, and when I restore it, no archivelog list appears being syncronized.
    I have followed the same process than the other one and I can't resync it. I think there is something at my params or something new at 11g version...

  • DataGuard Standby 環境で db が open できない.

    DataGuard Standby 環境で db が open できなくて困っています。
    詳しい方いれば、原因と対処方法を教えていただきたいと思います。
    create した spfile が正確に読み込まれていないことが原因のようなのですが。。
    なぜ読み込めないのかが分からない状態です。
    pfile を読み込んだ起動は可能ですが、spfile を読み込んだ起動の前提条件とは、
    何なのでしょうか。単に整合性が取れていないだけなのか、それとも、、。

    ORA-12154 は整合性の問題であるので、それを合わせれば消えると思っています。
    そもそも RAC を前提としていたのですが、それを standalone に置き換えて検証始めた結果、

    open できない原因が ORA-12154 だったりして。。

    ○ open するほうは、シンプルに以下だけで open することが確認できる。
       が、db_name を変更した関係で

    standby 側に、アーカイブログファイルを少し適用すれば open できそうに感じます。
    これを解決するためには、以下のエラーを解決するのがよいと思います。
    ・ORA-12154: TNS: 指定された接続識別子を解決できませんでした
    両ノードの tnsnames.ora を確認させて貰えますか?
    この推測が間違えていたら再検討しましょう。

    Hai,
    it's possible if our dataguard configuration will be setup maxperformance with logxpt mode sync?
    if the network disconnect between primary and standby(with maxperformance logxpt sync),what happened with primary database?it's effect to our primary database?

    if the network disconnect between primary and standby(with maxperformance logxpt sync),what happened with primary database?it's effect to our primary database?Not any effect, because protection mode is Max Performance and transport will runing ASYNC mode.
    Like MAX AVAILABILITY mode NETWORK TIMEOUT expired.

  • Flashback in dataguard environment

    Hi,
    We have dataguard environment with Sun OS & Oracle 10g, 11g. Now we want to enable flashback for the primary database as well as standby database (physical standby). NO RMAN. I did manage to configure the flashback for the primary database but confusion is:
    -- Do I need to configure flashback at standby or recreate standby after enabling flashback at primary site?
    -- Suppose if I use flashback database to restore point and open database with resetlogs, what would be the situation at standby site? Will it be in sync with primary or after resetlogs I need to make new standby database??
    -- Is there any space requirement ratio for flashback recovery partition?

    If you only enabled flashback on your Primary, your Standby is not affected. If you did actually a flashback database on your Primary, you need to address that on the Standby. See an example here:

  • Out of sync

    Dear Members
    I have the following scenario
    One Primary database ( A )
    one Physical standby database (B)
    one logical standby database for reporting purpose ( C)
    We use dataguard for this setup. For the physical standby database we apply redolog and in SYNC
    For the logical standby database we use SQL APPLY by reading the redo
    We have the following issue
    Once the Primary database (A) become Physical standby (B) & Physical database ( B) become Primary (A) (Failover) it works fine
    But the logical standby database (C) having a issue with SCN NO with NEW Primary database ( WHICH IS LAST TIME Logical stand by database)
    How to fix this sync issue

  • Whats is diffrence between Dataguard and Stand by?

    Hi All
    I was asked for diffrence between Dataguard and StandBy Database in an interview.
    I answered that prior to 9I, (in 8i) It was called StandBy Database and from 9I onwards, It is called DataGuard.
    But interviewer doesnt seems to be satisfied with my answer. Not sure why?
    Then i was asked for Diffrence in Logical Dataguard and Physical Dataguard?
    I replied with "Logical DG" is one in which sql stements are applied onto standby whereas "Physical DG" is one in which redo logs are shipped from one server to other by itself (with services) and secondary upgrades itself from those. Again, interviewer didnt feel happy enough.
    This has made me think, was my answer incorrect because i answered whatever i know. which i feel like is correct.
    Please help me identify correct answer.

    In simplistic terms:
    Standby Database is an operating mode of the database in which it continuously applies redo logs that are shipped from another (primary) database. The mode of operation often stops the database from being accessible to users.
    Logical standby database uses a 'recieving process' (SQL Apply) that extracts from the log and creates SQL statements which are applied to keep the standyby database in step with the primary.

    Data Guard was originally a set of scripts, but now is the entire environment including a set of processes that control the extraction of redo (directly from log bugger, from redo logs or archive redo logs) from the primary, shipping to the standby, ensuring that the logs are applied. Data Guard processes also include the mechanics needed to make the standby database active automatically (failover) or manually (switchover) and also to re-sync and make the original database active again (switchback).
    You could (should) read more about this. Oracle has a fine set of documentation which you can access from http://tahiti.oracle.com - indeed selecting Database 10gR2, and switching to the Books tab you get to http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/portal.portal_db?selected=3 . And by scrolling down a little to "Data Guard Concepts and Administration" you would get decent introduction in the first 2 pages of Chapter 1 "Introduction to Oracle Data Guard".

Again, interviewer didnt feel happy enough.Well ... you are moderately close on this. However, you seem to be missing "how do we get data from the primary in the SQL Apply case". The implication is that you are not at all comfortable with the basic concepts.
    Again, I would not be terribly happy either. I would not be confident that you had read Chapter 1 of the Data Guard Concepts manual. And that could imply that you had not read Chapter 1 of ANY of the Concepts manuals. That chapter in each of the manuals is an easy read, complete with pictures, and it describes the basics of operating the big machine that the interviewer wants to entrust you with.
    All that said, Data Guard is only available on Enterprise Edition. Standby capability is available on Standard Edition. And there are commercial products around that provide capability similar to Data Guard for Standard Edition.
