DataMerge output to PDF then high dpi conversion to TIFF
I am new to InDesign and have successfully created an output through InDesigns DataMerge feature which converts the final output to PDF.
Is there anyway to change this to TIFF with high DPI (4000) or a process to convert the PDF to TIFF with similar output. The PDF file only contains text.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Export to PDF and then batch convert them in Photoshop. Very easy to do with a Photoshop action and Bridge.

ES3 conversion to PDF then uploaded to forms central
I used LC to make the form then printed as pdf then applied the fields according to post http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-2533
when i upload form there is no url given to post on website. Did i goof my import export or am i just missing something. Any help will be appreciated. thank you.Hi;
The Import a PDF Form feature allows you to collect and analyze the form data through FormsCentral, it does not make the form a web form, there is no associated URL. You can of course make the FormsCentral enabled PDF you Save/download available for download from your own web site for users to fill out in Adobe Reader, but there is no web version of the PDF.
Thanks,

Ive been tearing my hair out for the best part of 14 hours trying to figure out how to keep the closest possible conversion for working with images(rgb in photoshop) right the way through a work flow until exporting to print (having used the image in Indesign). Here is the process I have been trying to get right.
1) working with RGB photo images in photoshop and converting them to CMYK (whilst holding on to as much colour as poss)
2) Importing them to Indesign and retaining the correct colours while working with them)
3) Exporting to high quality print and having all your colours stay 100% the same as you saw them within indesign.
I believe I have the solution so I posted my settings below to see if its the best way of doing things and to help others who might be having the same problems.
The problem
The problem is that there are many different colour models/profiles (both in RGB and CMYK) and each program can effect how the next one handles and stores colour. It can become frustrating knowing where to go in order to set the settings correctly as the combination of things to consider can make it confusing.
I understand many other people have similar problems and finding RGB blacks come out as grey. CMYK spaces get converted from one type to another either from one program to the next or even as things move around one program (causing all sorts of wonderful, colour errors) Plus you have imported colour profiles, working colour profiles and export profiles. All of which can interact and effect each other) So getting it all consistent is key other wise colours change and get washed out. Especially vibrant colours like greens and blues. they fade etc.
Through sheer trial and error and perciverance I found a combination of settings that worked well for me.
Since I am not an expert I wanted to post up my settings to:
1) see if this is the best way of doing things.
2) Other people may find them useful if they had the same problems I had,
The Solution
In photoshop
Save the photoshop image in CMYK by selecting:
Edit > Convert to prfile.
(in destination space)
select: Euroscale Coated v2 (I think this holds the colours the truest of all CMYK colour formats.)
(in conversion options)
- Engine: Adobe ACE
- Intent: Perceptual.
- Check Use black point Compensation.
(leave all else unchecked)
Save the image ready to place in indesign (place rather than copy and paste.).
In Indesign
edit > colour settings (make sure you click on the advanced tick box to open more options)
- Working space: =
- RGB: sRGB IEC....
- CMYK Euroscale coated v2
- RGB & CMYK convert to working space.
- Engine Adobe ACE
- Perceptual
- Use black point compensation
edit > Assign profiles
- RGB profile. > Assign current workspace: sRGB IE
- CMYK > Assign current work space Euroscale Coated V2
- Solid colour intent : preceptual
- Default image intent
- After blending intent: Perceptual.
edit > convert to profile. (use similar as above).
edit > Preferences > Apprearance of black
- on screen / export : Display all blacks as enriched black
- Priniting and export : Display all blacks as enriched black
Overprint: (not checked)
------ when exporting to PDF ----------
File > Export
in GENERAL TAB
- Adobe PDF preset: High quality print.
- Standard (drop down menu): PDF/X-42008
- Compatability: Acrobat 5 PDF1:4
in OUTPUT
- COlour conversion: Convert to destination
- Destination: Working CMYK Euroscale Coated v2
in PDF/X
- Output intent profile name: Working CMYK - Euroscale Coated v2
also:
If you are having problems with fill blacks not coming out as proper black then use registration instead of black from the swatch panel.
The above may seem either obvious to most of you or possibly not the best way of doing things but since the results worked for me and I found them tough to arrive at, it may be of use to others hence my post.
I would like your feedback on this process, have I done something wrong / could do better? If so please let me know. I am keen to improve.I would copy and paste into InDesign forum. Text should stay 100% black. Any other black (like solid boxes or thick lines), I usually use a rich black swatch I created at 40/40/40/100. Looks 10 times better than just 100% black.

Line art problem outputting to pdf
I have a problem with exporting pages of a magazine going to print as pdf, relating to line art placed on the page as a bitmap tiff (typically at 1200 ppi). At present I have a workaround for an annoying problem that really needs clearing up ...
I'm using CS4 InDesign and Acrobat (files prepared in Photoshop). So, high-res bitmap tiff containing line art sized (that is, just placed - no resizing in Indesign) and placed in Indesign, looks fine on the page. Output to pdf using 'export' and the resulting file, when viewed on screen, has a thin line down the right-hand edge of any and all bitmap files.
To ensure no misunderstanding, the 'bitmap' reference is what Photoshop calls it - a bilevel file with black lines in it, which enables me easily to overlay other files such as a photo (because the file is black/transparent) and assign a colour or tint to the bitmap, or even a drop shadow etc. I've used this workflow for years, from Photoshop through Indesign, but the latter always gives me this line on the right edge, in the pdf. It did this in CS3 Indesign/Acrobat as well (but never in Pagemaker).
My workaround is to lay a white-filled box over the edge of the file, thus masking it. But of course, that also limits me to where I can place the file - not easily on a graded tint background, not on a photo and so on. So I'd like to solve this.
Any ideas? OS is Win XP Pro (all updates applied to this and the CS programs - I don't believe they make a difference to this problem, as it has existed through several iterations of both OS and CS).
Anyone else seen this effect? Or is it just me? And has anyone a potential solution?
ChrisI think by reason of not knowing what else I can do, I'm heading to the same conclusion - put up with it! I'll certainly try sending a line to print and see if it appears, but for on-screen stuff, I think I have to stick with the safe workaround I use and accept the layout limitations. (Or resort to Pagemaker for the pages that I just cannot do otherwise.)
Seems to me, if people have reported this for years, Adobe might have tried sorting it out. On screen or not, it still must be due to *something* in the file and/or Acrobat/Distiller to allow it to appear. If I create a white greyscale tiff with the same resolution etc, and place it on a page, there's no line down the edge on output - just a white page with a white (invisible) box. If I do this with an 'empty' bitmap file, a line appears ... Both files created in Adobe programs, so it's not me as a user ...
Just me whinging! I'm really coming from the angle that if this is indeed a display problem, it can only be a display problem if there is something in the file for the display to react to (badly phrased that!).
Thanks everyone for your support and ideas - I think that's me finished for now; I have files to upload and then sleep. -
Script to save out PDFs in High Res and Low Res and name them accordingly?
Hello
I'm on Indesign version 9.1. I previously had a script for this and have since had my mac wiped and re-installed (big company rules). So, here I am asking if someone can help me again..
Basically I have to create artwork and nearly every time I have to export it as a 150dpi LOW RES version and then a 300dpi HIGH RES version with time marks, bleed, etc. I then end the file name with either LR.pdf or HR.pdf. I have presets for these and obviously, it's not the worst thing in the world having to scroll down menus, etc but this is maybe up to 50 times a day. I used to be able to select an icon on my desktop (or wherever) then I used Indesign scripting and automator on the mac to press a kay command and it'd open the document, then save it out as the two designated PDFs, then close it.
Can anyone help me on this?
I can probably search on here for the previous thread asked and the script given to me...Adding somthing like below to Script 2 pdf outputs?
var myLayer = app.documents.item(0).layers.item("Background");
myLayer.visible = true -
Transparency Issues When Output to PDF
I have some text with a drop shadow, which I believe has a transparency effect. Similarly, I have an embedded file from photoshop that has a mask and transparency.
When I output to PDF, everything looks good on the screen. However, when I print, you can see the bounding box and it is a different shade of color.
I ran a preflight and it says "transparency not allowed". It would appear the flattening is getting messed up somehow? Very confusing as to what the problem might be. Any ideas?Bob,
Thanks for the tip. I tried that, but some weird things happened. But in the process, I discovered what appeared to be the correct solution...for me.
I was using the "high quality print" preset to export to PDF. I then changed it to "press quality" and it worked justed fine. When printing the PDF, I also chose "high resolution" for the transparancey flattener in the advanced tab (though that didn't seem to be the difference).
I looked throught the differences between high quality print and press quality and could not find anything different. But it was very repeatable so something is going on there. Any idea what the setting that affects it might be? -
Is Pages support higher dpi?
I've been working on Pages for months to make a yearbook and i just find out that output of the pdf file is only 72 dpi. The publisher suggests a higher one (e.g.,300dpi). It really bother me that i can't find a single option to change the dpi. i'm now using the finest quality of pdf output but it's still 72dpi. Although it seems fine on the screen, but it can't be as good as for publishing. This terrible saving function is really driving me CRAZY.
PS, i wonder if is possible to take screenshots for higher dpi?You are facing a behavior described here many times.
Pages is able to pass 300 dpi pictures. Alas, the filters used by default in the export to PDF process reduce them to 70 dips.
I posted several times a link to a web site delivering for free enhanced filters.
As I dislike to stammer, I will not repeat what I posted several times.

CE10 Converting All reports output as PDF from A4 to US size paper.
I have created a number of reports which on Crystal are set as A4. These are then published to CE10 and set to output as PDF.
When they are previewed in History after being scheduled they appear as US size 11.68 x 8.26 in, and are thus cropped on bottom and righthand side.
Even when I preview the report on the Properties tab they are cropped to US size.
I have looked every where on the CE Admin page but can not see any where that a page size can be set. Is it something to do with how Acrobat has been set up on the CE server? Or have I missed something on the CE configuration.
We did not have a default printer on the server so we added one and that made no difference.
Acrobat is not installed on the server.
It looks like its something to do with the ActiveX conversion as the object is stored as a .cwr file and then ActiveX converts it to PDF, but in doing so changes size to US Paper rather than A4.
It must be somewhere in this code
http://srvcors08/crystal/enterprise10/admin/en/infoobject.cwr?action=-10005&cmd=view&id=603250&iid=617366&WCSID=12809936971026%2D2886740171%3A6401
But as I know nothing about ActiveX I can not see what is happening and even if I did I would not know where to start in changing it!
I know CE10 is no longer supported but there are no plans to upgrade, so other than making all my reports a bit smaller is there a solution to this?

I moved your post to the BusinessObjects Legacy products forum.

Bridge CS4 won't output to pdf multiple images with same filename
Hiya...my googling efforts have thus far failed!
I've got CS4, and in Bridge, I created a New Smart Collection to find all filenames in a folder containing "." or ".jpg" - which in turn searched through all the subfolders like what you used to be able to do in Photoshop CS3. Very simple stuff, but all the images are jpg's, but in multiple folders (I don't want to move them out of the folders, as the files came from an external source, and there are heaps of folders, and I don't want to pdf each subfolder seperately as it will take forever).
The problem is that some of the files have the same filenames (again I'd prefer not to rename, as it happens a lot on this project, and they are all over the place). So whilst Bridge will show the thumbnail images correctly in the content tabbed screen in my New Smart Collection, but once I've done the Output to PDF thing, for example, instead of showing both different images it has pdf only the first image but repeated it twice. And this happens multiple times throughout the pdf, the more times the same filename is used, the more times the first image gets repeated.
I know that it is messy to have multiple similar filenames, but why can't bridge just place the image anyway? It allocated a space for it on the pdf and does show it in bridge, it just doesn't seem to survive the transfer to pdf well.
The only other thing that I have done is use the below link (which was posted on another adobe forum thread) to create a custom pdf output template (nothing too fancy, just number of rows / columns, size, font etc). But I've tried using the standard bridge templates and it does the same thing.
http://www.proficiografik.com/2009/08/03/save-custom-pdf-output-template-in-adobe-bridge-c s4.html
Any help would be appreciated...even if to tell me that I am being unreasonable!
UPDATE 16/11/09
Just to let you know that I seem to have resolved the bug inadvertently with one of the Adobe updates. The below is the link for the AdobeOutputModule-2.1-mul-AdobeUpdate.zip which was released on 2/19/2009 - which allows for headers & footers to be placed in the Ouput pdf. I finally installed it today, and everything seems to be working fine now (i.e. I can pdf multiple images with the same filenames and the pdf will actually show each different image rather than repeating only 1 of the images).
Must have been a fix installed in the contact sheet templates that get installed with the update - not sure why the original version was corrupted, but I've left that with the Adobe guys (I submitted a bug report - and they were able to replicate the problem but hadn't fixed it as yet).

Message was edited by: djtun71 (16/11/09)When I click import from disc I am asked to choose a disc and then I get this message:
The following photos will not be imported because they are already present in the catalog. To see these photos in the catalog select 'Show in Library' (the import will be canceled).
This is followed by a long list of images. If I click 'Show in Library' I can see all the images with the same filename. And then they start to automatically write over those images with images from the disc. However they keep the same metadata and keywords from the previous images. If I click on Import and deselect the "don't reimport suspected duplicates" box, it imports only the images that don't share filenames and none of the images that do.
Is there a way of setting the "Don't reimport suspected duplicates" box in preferences? -

Thanks for the reply.
In this I am using the FM 'CONVERT_ABAPSPOOLJOB_2_PDF'. I have checked the settings from SPAD that is also same in both servers for particular output device. But the patches are diffrennt in both the servers, the server from which layout is not coming properly having the high level patches in compare to the other server(which is working fine). -

Every time I create a button it moves to the centre of the page when outputing to pdf
every time I create a button it moves to the centre of the page when outputting to pdf
I have done a load of tests and it does it every time
I imported a jpg image as my button. Converted it to a button by Interactive/convert button. Even before I setup all the options in the buttons panel it moves. So for instance I have the button in the bottom RHS in Indesign. Then make a interactive pdf and its in the centre of the page. I have even converted the image back to an object and it goes back to in proper position.
I have tried this in several documents, starting from scratch and using different images and also drawn a button. I have also used the buttons from the button library
In previous version of Indesign I have never uncounted this problem.
2 weeks later to above post
Can anyone help this has not be resolved and I have several annual reports to get out urgently. Its happening to all documents!every time I create a button it moves to the centre of the page when outputting to pdf

PO output type to send a mail to the user along with PO output as PDF file
Hi Friends,
I have one requirement from client.
Client wants the PO output to be converted to PDF format and sent to User while doing the PO release through e-mail. Can anybody guide me how to Configure a New Output Type and convert the PO output into PDF and send to User through e-mail.
Thanks
NazerThis can be done with the standard form itself.
first find out the output type u r using.
Then goto T-code NACE and then choose EF- purchase order and then select the output type u r using.
Then goto the 'processing Routines' at the lefe side of the screen.
There u can find out the output forms for this output typr u r using. Here add 'Simple mail-7' in the list and then give the program name and the smartform or the script u r using.
We can also give the mail texts for this output form.
After that goto ME22N and then choose the 'Messages' tab and then click the simple mail and in the 'communication method' kindly provide the mail id for which the PO mail has to be sent.
And then the mail can be viewed in the inbox of the recipient.
in this way we can sent the PO mail to the corresponding mail address,.
I guess this will solve ur issue.
Thanks and Regards
Siva
