DataModeler 4 MacOS Java 7 Home
The Oracle Data Modeler 4 launcher.sh script correctly looks at the environment variable JAVA_HOME to find a JRE/JDK.
However, the datamodeler-Darwin.conf file has the following path set explicitly - therefore resulting in datamodeler looking at java 6 even though java 7 is installed and JAVA_HOME is correctly set
SetJavaHome /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6.0/Home
The quickest solution to get this working and make datamodeler automatically detect the correct JRE is to
simply comment/remove the above SetJavaHome line from datamodeler-Darwin.conf
And everything will work fine.
I hope the future releases will not have this path set explicitly in the darwin conf file.
File Paths:
OracleDataModeler.app/Contents/Resources/datamodeler/ide/bin/launcher.sh
OracleDataModeler.app/Contents/Resources/datamodeler/datamodeler/bin/datamodeler-Darwin.conf
just realized that it works if opening from the shell as
$open /Applications/OracleDataModeler.app/
and not when clicking on the app from finder directly.
options may include
1. updating the plist file
2. set the path in datamodeler-Darwin.conf
3. add the following file to OracleDataModeler.app/Contents/MacOS/datamodeler.sh
export JAVA_HOME=$(/usr/libexec/java_home)

How to specify java (jdk) home on Unix
Hi
On Windows, the file dmu/dmu/dmu.conf has the "SetJavaHome" parameter, and this works as the docs specifies.
On Unix (Solaris), the docs states that thsi is specified in the file $HOME/dmu_jdk, but I cannot get this to work.
And specifying JAVA_HOME and/or setting the jdk/bin catalog in first the PATH does not help.
It consistently uses picks up my jdk version 1.5 located in the /usr/java catalog, regardless of the environment variables and and dmu_jdk file (if I create it manually).
Am I doing something wrong?

Br,
KimDo you need to change it permanently or temporary (to run a utility)?

i studied java at University but have not played with it for a couple of years now. i used to use JDK (java development kit) but now i have XP and it doesn't have DOS. im sure theres a way to use it but...can someone advise of a good platform to use on my home pc for both coding and compiling. thank you in advance - barry
Still the same, just new versions. It works in XP, just open a cmd prompt window.
To download the current version of Java, go here:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/download.html
and click on the word DOWNLOAD in the column labeled SDK in this line:
Windows (all languages, including English)
After downloading, click on this page of installation instructions and read through #6:

Java ME SDK 3.0 for MacOS: MediaException when capturing
Dear all,
I'm currently developing a J2ME media application over MacOS (MacBook Pro, OS version 10.6.2). I've installed the MacOS Java ME SDK 3.0 , but I'm getting a MediaException when running any media capturing application (including the demos).
The example I was using is the MMAPIDemos example (Video-->Video Capture - Form and Video-->Video Capture - Canvas ). In both examples the emulator returned a;
javax.microedition.media.MediaException: Player cannot be created for capture://video
exception. I also tried the same application on different versions of MacOS, with a similar result.
Suggestions very welcome!
Thanks in advance for any help!

When I create an EJB Transport Business Service, after selecting the jar that has the EJB 2.1 artefacts (Remote, Home, etc) the oepe plugin fails and can't continue.
As I understand it seems that there is a problem with the classpath of ant build.xml that oepe creates inside folder /tmp/alsbejbtransport/ to compile the bs and generate the wsdl. I checked if tools.jar is in the classpath (in eclipse) and is included, so I can't figure out wich is the problem.
I found this in Oracle, but not helps solve the problem:

Java Plugin 1.3.1 on RedHat Linux 7.1
I downloaded and installed the Java SDK 1.3.1 for linux.
When I try to view an applet written in Netscape I get the following error message on the bottom left corner of the browser window:
ClassdefError javax.japplet not found.
However, I can see the applet in the appletviewer.
In order to install the plugin I did the following:
I removed the old plugin:
rm -fr $Home/.netscape/.java
rm $Home/.netscape/plugin/javaplugin.so
Then, to install the plugin I set the netscape environment variable :
export NPX_PLUGIN_Path = /usr/java/jdk1.3.1/jre/bin/plugin/ns4/javaplugin.so
How can I tell whether the netscape 4.7 browser is using this plugin??
Could someone please tell me what is causing the error?? Please be very specific, I am new to RH Linux.

Stumped on AFP network home directories.
Heyo,
Been RTFMs on File Services, User Management and Open Directory. Also looked in www.AFP548.com but didn't find anything helpful.
We have a mixed environment and windows users aren't having any problem with network domain logins or using smb shares. Mac clients can mount the network shares with afp but network homes are a no go.
Made the changes needed for the firewall and tried it with the firewall off just to be sure.
The /Home share is automounted (not using the default /Users).
Guest access is on in Sharing and AFP.
Network Mount for /Home is set to Enable network mounting, AFP and User Home Directories.
SMB Windows Homes are in the same directory and run without problems.
Directory Access on the Client saw the server and looks ok.
Only ref. I can find for the login attempt is under Open Directory Password Service Server Log:
Apr 23 2006 16:42:31 RSAVALIDATE: success.
Apr 23 2006 16:42:31 USER: {0x00000000000000000000000000000001, netadmin} is the current user.
Apr 23 2006 16:42:31 AUTH2: {0x00000000000000000000000000000001, netadmin} CRAM-MD5 authentication succeeded.
Apr 23 2006 16:42:31 QUIT: {0x00000000000000000000000000000001, netadmin} disconnected.
and OD LDAP log:
Apr 23 16:42:31 ci slapd[81]: bind: invalid dn (netadmin)\n
Nothing in the AFP log.
Any thoughts on what I should try or something obscure I may have missed when setting up MacOS client network home directories with AFP?
Thanks
Mitch

Kerberos is running now but still canna login for mac clients.
hostname and sso_util info -g both resolve properly.
but when i run:" slapconfig -kerberize diradmin REALM_NAME "
all looks good until the command (with the proper substituions)
"sso_util configure -r REALM_NAME -f /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 -a diradmin -p diradmin_password -v 1 all"
automatically runs and I get a list of:
SendInteractiveCommand: failed to get pattern.
SendInteractiveCommand: failed to get pattern.
SendInteractiveCommand: failed to get pattern.
and "sso_util command fialed with status 2"
the sso_util command by itself spits out
Contacting the directory server
Creating the service list
Creating the service principals
kadmin: Incorrect password while initalizing kadmin interface
SendInteractiveCommand: failed to get pattern.
kadmin: Incorrect password while initalizing kadmin interface

even though the login/pass are good
any thoughts on what i should check or where i should go next?
Thanks

iMac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.6)
iMac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.6) -
I'm fed up with not being able to use java from home so I'm currently trying to get it working for the command prompt.
java -version works just fine (1.5.0_06 btw).
However when it comes to javac I get - 'javac' is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
I've heard this is something to do with the path not being set right however how on earth do I go about correcting this path?
I have searched the forum and found similar questions however they always seem to fizzle out before giving me a answer of just what to do.
What would I have to edit and what to?
I don't want to just go in and change anything in case I edit something important....This site has quite horrendous documentation which
even makes the creation of hello world programs sound
complicated. That is simply not true, and although understandable, venting your frustration this way is not going to help you.
That update jdk seems to have installed where the
netbeans one wouldn't.
Still trying to figure out how to set this path now.
http://img66.imageshack.us/img66/8906/jav4rc.png
is as far as I can seem to get.
Am I pointing at the right thing? Just what am I
doing wrong?I could not access the link you posted (request timed out) so I don't really know anything more.
Assuming you downloaded the JDK, locate it on your hard disk. Find javac.exe. Now that you have the path to this exe, you have to tell Windows how to find it from the directory you want to use it from (again this is NOT a Java specific issue).
If you are going for setting the PATH environment variable, google will bury you under sites explaining how to. Also typing set /? shows you how to use this command (and actually a lot more you do not need to know).
//in DOS console:
set PATH //shows you the current value of this variable
set PATH= [FOLDER WHERE JAVAC.EXE IS];%path% //prepends the right folder to the existing value
set PATH //verify that the javac folder is now in thereThis will prepends the right folder to the existing values on the path.
Good luck & calmly read the documentation and try things step by step. You'll get there. -
Simple Java Command-Line on Unix Question
From the windows shell, the following command works fine:
java -classpath MyJar.jar;. Test
The class Test, in the current director, depends on files in MyJar.jar. However, when I open up the cygwin bash shell and try to execute the same command, I get this error:
bash: /usr/bin/Test: No such file or directory
It appears it's looking for Test in /usr/bin as opposed to in the current directory. Why is this happening and how can I get this to work in bash?
I know it's kind of unix question, but I figured some one here could help.
TIA,
JohnHow can I use aboslute classpaths within bash. For
example, what it the bash equivalent of the
following:
java -classpath C:/Java;C:/Java/MyJar.jar Testjava -classpath /the/path/to/your/Java:/the/path/to/your/MyJar.jar Test
Normally you will be using things relative to your home directory so yo can use
java -classpath ~ /the/relative-path/to/your/Java:~/the/relarive-path/to/your/MyJar.jar Test
or
java -classpath $HOME/the/relative-path/to/your/Java:$HOME/the/relative-path/to/your/MyJar.jar Test
Please don't use these blindly. Spend some time (half a day say) looking at the bash shell! -
Problems of running java program by crontab in Linux
I have a java application program which runs great when started in command line, or in shell script, or Perl. However, when it is started by crontab in Linux, it stops in the middle when images are to be generated. I guess there might be some settings I need to handle in order to run this java application by crontab. We tried to start the shell script or Perl program in which the java program was invoked, but still didn't work.
This may be a littler stretching. Does anyone have similar experience and success?
Thanks in advance.
ljiang006Dear dpz,
We have used JComponents. Here's the error message I got. Could you further suggest what to do in my crobtap (which is "11 14 * * * java -classpath /home/VeggieB VHpack.VegHealthFrac" ). Looking forward to your reply. Thanks. ljiang006.

In the past few months I've been getting more kernel panics than usual. This is on my late 2012 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 Mac Mini, running OS X Yosemite (OS X 10.2.2) with 16 GB of RAM.
Looking at the console logs following the last panic, I can see that immediately before the crash, com.oracle.java.Java-Updater had been spamming my log. Here's a sample:
3/20/15 11:58:45.317 PM com.apple.xpc.launchd[1]: (com.oracle.java.Java-Updater[77795]) Could not find and/or execute program specified by service: 2: No such file or directory: /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Resources/Java Updater.app/Contents/MacOS/Java Updater

From what it looks like, com.oracle.java.Java-Updater had sent around 77,000 message like this before crapping out.
I'm out of ideas — both regarding whether Java is actually responsible, and if so what to do. I need Java for a few programs I run, so deleting it isn't an option, unfortunately.

How do you get the Java API onto Computer
Hi guys,
Well I want to practice Java at home, but instead have been staying up late at night at the University's Computer Lab.
I have downloaded the Forte for Java, but I don't need all the Graphics classes since my programming class is centered on Programming in the UNIX environment. Not too long ago, I purchased SuSE Linux which had the Java Language and the compiler. I successfully managed to dual boot an old computer with it. It was easy because SuSe Partitioned the drive for you if it had a WIN32 filesystem.
My parents bought me a laptop and it came with Windows XP. I have ever since wanted to Dual Boot this system with Suse Linux, but can't because 1.) SuSe Linux doesn't partition the drive because Windows XP resides on a NTFS filesystem. 2.) I can't risk doing it myself because I have a lot of critcal information.
It would be really neat to work in Linux to program, because then I could do some serious homework as well practice. Forte for Java I am not really knowledgeable of it. I can't get the editor to work and it doesn't feel like I am in UNIX at all which defeats the purpose of taking trying to succeed in this programming class.
Could somebody help me with my woes on how to deal with these matters. How can I get SuSe Linux on my XP computer safely and if it can be done how do I use the Forte for Java.
Thanks for all your support,

F4J will be the same on both operating systems.. what actually is your question regarding it? -
7 Hours left :(! I hate Java Forte SO MUCH. Please help! Not much time
7 Hours left :(! I hate Java Forte SO MUCH. Please help! Not much time
Ok I first Installed Java Forte cause I had to a Course and the teacher gave us an Exe which was 62 MB on a Disc and i ran it and put Java Forte On My Computer. I also put a JDK program on my computer through a Java book(Got a CD with it).I could do my Java at home but there was a massive problem. I am using Windows XP and if i used java, My Computer would never shut down cause java would always be running. So this got frustrating and i decided to uninstall it.(Also the Java Plug in decided to stop my java Yahoo chat on IE).When i uninstalled it, I am not sure if i deleted the folder, Did it through control panel(Add/Remove), Or use the uninstaller, I didnt think there was an uninstaller.
Anyway there was still some jc.java and java Web Start folders and J2SDK folder on my HDD.
A while later I get a big Java Assignment to do, I decide to install the Java again on my Computer, I go ahead and click the exe, It takes me to an intall place, I wait, Wait impatiently for 1 hour, It just froze on the install screen. I also tryed it on my old PC which had java, It froze But before it frose it said i already had it installed (Which it wasnt anymore). So i though maybe its the CD or something. So my friend gives me his CD and i try, Yet again it stayed like that for 2 hours. I was so frustrated. I ended up Going to control panel and removed the java Web Start and deleted the J2sdk FOlder and deleted the java Plug in from where it locates it.
I then decide to install Java again but this time it takes me to the uninstaller? Why did it try to install from this exe but after i deleted stuff both CD's Mine and my Friends take to to the uninstaller? Well anyway i decided to Uninstall it like it said"Java Forte 3 and Some other little thing" Then i waited and it said Uninstall Complete. I double click the exe on the CD again and it takes me to the uninstaller again? I was like WTF? How do i install Java? Its just the biggest pain? Why is it taking me there instead of the actuall installer?
Also I dislike other java programs as 1, You cant Execute the code cause its only HTML compatible and or you need the JDK files accosiated with the JCreator which i cant Understand.
Also i got Jreal and it actually worked, But there is no uninstaller for it and it has no Removeal in the Control panel? Whats up with that? Also its good how it works. But for some reason it doesnt accept the code properly as the buttons and labels just appear everywhere and stay there even if i change forms and are messed up compared to when i run it on Java Forte at School.
Also i have a Major Problem with Jreal as it states everytime i run an Applet "Start Applet is not Initialized?" And it shows a Blank applet? Whats up with this? I got no Errors and i think it said Exit Statement:1. But It worked before then i tryed it and it does this all the time for all my Java Program Applets. So I have no idea. It really frustrates me as it was working and i did no changes to the code and it wont let me test any more :(! Why is this happenning to me?
Please help me in the best way you can, I dont have much time, 7 Hours to be Precise to do it in!
Please if you can help me with any problems about installing or evening trying to be able to run Jcreator(Dont understand How to link it with JDK) or any good Java Programs to download that are easy to use(I dont have enough time to read). I couldnt understand CoffeeCup as it was HTML only? and only could run as a Web Page! But any help on Any of these problems that i suffer including Jreal How to Uninstall? Plus Mainly trying to get Java Forte Runnign as that was the only one that was properly showed the correct format of my Coding Applet.Awww :(
