  • \\SERVER\Clients\Setup\setup.exe with Windows Vista Error

I added the first Vista client to an SBS 2003, SP1 domain.  Until now, all clients were WinXP, SP2.  Office 2003 is installed on the XP clients, and the Vista client, which may not be pertinent to this problem.
As is normal, "\\SERVER\Clients\Setup\setup.exe /s SERVER" is executed when a user logs on to any domain client.  On the Vista client, I always get the dialog -- regardless of the account privilege -- asking for permission to run Setup.exe.  It is annoying.  Occasionally, the Program Compatiblity Assistant will appear and advise there's a known compatiblity issue with Setup.exe.  It points to KB article 926505 for resolution.  The title of the KB is, "Windows Small Business Server 2003: Windows Vista and Outlook 2007 compatibility update."
When I run the SBS2003SP1-KB926505-X86-ENU.EXE fix, I get the error:  "This update cannot be installed.  Either it is already installed as part of an existing service pack, or it requires a more recent service pack.  For more information, see the systems requirements on the download page."
I installed Windows Server 2003 SP2 and run the KB926505 fix, but I get the same error  "This update cannot be installed.  Either it is already installed as part of an existing service pack" After a reboot of te SBS server the same  problem on the Vista client, I always get the dialog -- regardless of the account privilege -- asking for permission to run Setup.exe.  It is annoying.  Occasionally, the Program Compatiblity Assistant will appear and advise there's a known compatiblity issue with Setup.exe.  It points to KB article 926505 for resolution.
The problem is Windows Vista Business, because all windows XP clients have no problem at all.

    PNP,
You do not say whether if you accept the permission dialog whether the setup continues or not, but the short answer to the question revolves around UAC.
Remember that EVERY user (except the actual Administrator account) has only Standard user rights regardless of group.  When a task that requires Admin rights is executed, one of three things will happen: 1) If you are THE Administrator, then your task will continue.  2) If you have Admin rights, you will be prompted that a process is trying to use elevated rights and ask for permission, or 3) If you are a Standard user, you will either be denied flatly or prompted to supply credentials.  Which of these happen depend on GPO settings, but the default is to prompt.
In any event, I believe that this is what you are running into, and is one of the big feature improvements in Vista.  Yes, it can be a bit annoying (Try deleting an "All Users" icon from the Start Menu!) but is there to place one more barrier between virus and malware writers and your OS.
If it's TOO annoying to bear, you can turn off UAC by going into your profile and disabling it. (It requires Admin rights, of course. )  It is not recommended as you do a very effective job or nutering the Vista Security Model by doing so.
If it, of course, your choice.  we IT Admins have a lot more issues with this than the standard user, but for me, I gladly take the tradeoff because I worry a lot less about those few I HAVE to give Admin rights to.
    Good luck!

  • Starting the datapump jobs from client side

    sir
    please make me understand
datapump is server side utility means we can not invoke it from client. but in documents (oracle).
they r talking that we can start the datapump job from client(Sqlplus) but the dmp files will be saved and the process will run on the server side
so how can invoke the datapump from the client side (SQL Plus) ?

datapump is server side utility means we can not invoke it from client. That's wrong to say and understand. The correct understanding should be that it's configured only for server side which means, that the folder where the dump files would be created would be available on a folder which must be there on the server side and over which, proper permissions must be available to you in the form of Directory object. There is no such thing that it can't be invoked sitting on the client side. It surely can but unlike the traditional export, there is no facility available anymore to give absolute file paths which would store the file on the local client machine.
    but in documents (oracle).
they r talking that we can start the datapump job from client(Sqlplus) but the dmp files will be saved and the process will run on the server sideAll what they are saying is that since the datapump's API, DBMS_DATAPUMP , is completely exposed and is documented, it can be used by the client and as like any other package, either stored or created, can be invoked from the sqlplus session. The dump files location would indeed be on the server side only.
so how can invoke the datapump from the client side (SQL Plus) ?As mentioned already by Srini, using the API .

    Hi Samapth,
There are so many possiblities that your setup exe file could be deleted by someone either in mistake or moved to somewhere else.
You can search whole drive to find out if there are any copies in other place. If not, you can download it again from SAP portal.

  • How does automatic client setup work ?

How does automatic client setup work in the clients connected to a standard leopard server ?
I used a standard leopard server and I was so happy about the automatic configuration of my leopard clients. Utility Directory setups all the applications in the right way.
Now I have an advanced leopard server and I have lost this option. Can I reproduce it in any way? (For example with terminal commands).
    Any help is appreciated...

I suppose I could, but I'd prefer to at least have a working hypothesis first before changing things around.  Noone out there knows how this auto vid detection works?

  • Is my PHP + Oracle9i + Instant client setup ok ?

    Hello
I have to developp a script in PHP for windows, using an Oracle 9i database.
    Here's my setup :
Windows 2003 Server R2 (all patches applied)
    PHP 5.2.0
    Oracle 9i 9.2.0.1.1
    Instant client 10g 10.2.0.2-20060508
    Oracle9i was installed in C:\oracle\
Oracle Instant client extracted to C:\dev\oracle\instantclient_10_2
Here 's the PATH env variable (only oracle partis shown):
    C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.3.1\bin;C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.1.8\bin;C:\dev\php5.2;C:\dev\oracle\instantclient_10_2
I deleted the "C:\oracle\ora92\bin" from PATH env variable in order to
the Instant client to be used instead of. Is this a good solution ? Since now I have no more oracle tools available in command line without specifing full path.
PHP is configured to use php_oci8.dll of course. No problem with that.
I tryied to activate PDO but get an error message :
When I run PHP from command line, same error message :
Warning: PHP Startup: Invalid library (maybe not a PHP library)
'php_pdo_oci8.dll' in Unknown on line 0
Maybe it's a bug in PHP, I m not the first complaining about that as far as I know.
My main question remains : Is my configuration the best way to do ? Is there a way not to loose oracle9/bin from PATH ?
    Thanks in advance

    Thanks, now I understand better.
    What is "Oracle Runtime"?
Did you install Instant Client from the Oracle Client CD or did you download Instant Client from http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/oci/instantclient/index.html ?
Which version of Instant Client is this?
Can you show us the contents of your tnsnames.ora file?

  • Oracle 8i Client Setup - Windows 2000

We have just installed Oracle 8i on a Windows NT server, and are using the standard LISTENER configuration.
On the client side, we are trying to use Windows 2000. When the install process goes through the setup routine, it keeps wanting to use NAMES SERVER as the way to connect to the server.
There does not appear to be anything that we are doing that would change this set up, ad yet, we can not seem to generate a TNSNAMES.ORA files on the client.
ARe there any known problems with using a Windows2000 client to a WindowsNt server, and if not, what advice might anyone have?

  • OEL ldap client setup with SSL against OID using either ldaps or starttls

Hi, I've got OID 11.1.1.1.0 running with SSL enabled on port 3132. It's running in mode 2, SSL Server Authentication mode (orclsslauthentication is set to 32). I'd like to setup my OEL 5.3 and Solaris 10 ldap clients to connect to OID using SSL for user authentication. I have everything already working on the non-SSL port (3060), but I need to switch over to SSL. So far I can't get it to work on either OEL or Solaris. Does anyone out there know how to configure the client to use SSL?
    Here's my /etc/ldap.conf file on OEL 5.3.
    timelimit 120
    bind_timelimit 120
    idle_timelimit 3600
    nss_initgroups_ignoreusers root,ldap,named,avahi,haldaemon,dbus,radvd,tomcat,radiusd,news,mailman,nscd,gdm
    URI ldaps://FQDN:3132/
    port 3132
    ssl yes
    host FQDN
    base dc=DOMAIN,dc=com
    pam_password clear
    tls_cacertdir /etc/oracle-certs
    tls_cacertfile /etc/oracle-certs/oid-test-ca.pem
    tls_ciphers SSLv3
    # filter to AND with uid=%s
    pam_filter objectclass=posixaccount
    #The search scope
    scope sub
I have /etc/nsswitch.conf set to check for files first, then ldap
    passwd: files ldap
    shadow: files ldap
    group: files ldap
    Here's my /etc/openldap/ldap.conf file
    URI ldaps://FQDN:3132/
    BASE dc=DOMAIN,dc=com
    TLS_CACERT /etc/openldap/cacerts/oid-test-ca.pem
    TLS_CACERTDIR /etc/openldap/cacerts
    TLS_REQCERT allow
    TLS_CIPHERS SSLv3
The oid-test-ca.pem is a self-signed cert from the OID server. I also have the hash file configured.
    4224de9f.0 -> oid-test-ca.pem
I can run ldapsearch using ldaps and it works fine.
    ldapsearch -v -d 1 -x -H ldaps://FQDN:3132 -b "dc=DOMAIN,dc=com" -D "cn=user,cn=users,dc=DOMAIN,dc=com" -w somepass -s sub objectclass=* | more
But when I run the 'getent passwd' command, it only shows me my local user accounts and none of my ldap accounts. I also can't SSH in using a ldap account.
Solaris 10 is actually a whole other beast...I'm using the native Solaris ldap client (not PADL based) and I don't think it even works with SSL unless you're using the default ports (389/636).
Does anyone out there know how to setup the client-side for ldap authentication using SSL? Any tips, howto docs, or advice are appreciated. Thanks!

    Hello again...
after some research and work together with Oracle Support I found out how to get it to work:
    1. You have to create your own ConfigSet in OID using
    SSL-Server-Authentication
(OpenSSL seems not to support SSL-encryption-only).
The following link shows on how to do that:
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/oid/oidhtml/oidqs/html_masters/a_port01.htm
    2. Add the following lines to your $HOME/ldaprc
    TLS_CACERT /home/frank/oid-caroot.pem
    TLS_REQCERT allow
    TLS_CIPHERS SSLv3
    ssl on
    tls_checkpeer no
oid-caroot.pem is the CA-Root Certificate you got
    during step 1
    3. you should now be able to use ldapsearch using SSL
If you still can't connect using SSL you may have run into another issue with OpenSSL which affects systems using OpenSSL version 0.9.6d and above. The problem seems to be caused by an security fix which may not be compliant with the SSL implementation of Oracle.
I opened an Bug for that problem with RedHat. This Bug Description also includes an proposal for an Patch which solves the problem (but may introduce some security risks). See the Bug at RedHat:

  • Setup ical client setup 10.6

We are using Lion server and want to setup ical clients running on Snow Leopard (10.6), however we need the UID for the calendar, where can I get it?

    Hi
For the iCal application you don't need the UID for the client and neither do you need to join/bind client workstations to the Server. As long as DNS is correctly resolving on both pointers and your clients are using the correct DNS Server you should be able to add a CalDAV account by simply providing the users shortname and password and the fully qualified domain name or IP address.
As long as DNS Services are resolving correctly it will work.
If you really want to find Users' Generated UIDs and you're not interested in using the command line, launch Directory Utility on the Lion Server itself. Click on the Directory Editor Icon and select the LDAPv3 node. This allows you to view the LDAP database in Inspector mode. Click on a User and look at the Generated UID value.
You may have to click on another icon and then back again to get this to refresh properly. Let's call this an undocumented 'feature' of the plug-in.
You should be able to do this remeotely by referencing the Server's LDAP node using Directory Utility on a Client Workstation. On the client launch Directory Utility (/System/Library/CoreServices) and from the File Menu select Connect. Key in the OD Master's IP address or fully qualified domain name (or even the name assuming the DNS and DHCP Services are configured correctly) as well as the appropriate directory admin name and password and you should be looking at the LDAP node in Inspector mode.

  • Database Lite 10g Client Setup on Sprint PPC-6700

    Hi,
Can I install the mobile client on the above device? It has a PXA270-416Mhz Processor. I only see a PPC5 ARMV4I cab file. The setup proram does not run. I manually installed the cab file from ORA_HOME\Mobile\Server\admin\repository\setup\us\ppc50\armv4i then when I run setup from that I am asked for server credentials and the program exits.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

Firstly, never pick up anything from ORA_HOME\Mobile\Server\admin\repository\*. Rather you should use files from $OH\mobile_oc4j\j2ee\mobileserver\applications\mobileserver\setup\*
There are a couple of ways to do an installation on the device. In each of these cases, the device should be connected to your desktop
    1. In the device, open PocketIE. Point your browser to the http://server:port/webtogo/setup.
Click on PPC50.ARMV4I. It will bring down the setup.exe. Tap on it, provide the credentials and proceed with the installation.
    2. From your desktop, open your favourite interbet browser. Point to http://server:port/webtogo/setup. Click on PPC50.ARMV4I. It will bring down the setup.exe. Execute that setup.exe, provide the credentials and proceed with the installation. It will eventually install the cab file on your device.
    3. Go to $OH\mobile_oc4j\j2ee\mobileserver\applications\mobileserver\setup\us\ppc50\armv4i. Pick up the cab file, drop it into your device and tap on it for installation.
    4. Go to $OH\mobile_oc4j\j2ee\mobileserver\applications\mobileserver\setup\us\ppc50\armv4i. Install the cab file via ActiveSync.

  • Virtual Mail Domains and Email Client setup...

    Hello,
I have read the Apple Mail Services pdf and I have read petrobytes pdf on virtual user setup and I now have it working.
The question I have is if I have a virtual domain called vdom1.com and a local domain called ldom.com and I have a user called "user1" in each of these should I not be able to to use "user1" as the username in a mail client config? It won't let me and I would really rather not give out usernames that look like vdom1user1, if at all possible?
    Thanks,
    tom

Well, obviously you haven't read my tutorial properly
    11. - What do my users need to know?
"Username: user1 and password will not work or fetch the wrong
mailbox (unless the user is a local domain user). For virtual
domain users, [email protected] and password is the
    way to go."
Use user1 for the local domains and [email protected] for the virtual domain.

  • Work Folders client setup errors: No prompt for AD credentials & Lockscreen policies not applied.

    Hi everyone.
I've recently set up a test environment for Work Folders (Server 2012 R2). I'm only testing inside my network so no internet access is required. I have encountered two issues:
When setting up a domain-joined client using a GPO everything works fine, except for the lockscreen/password policy settings. If I enable this on the fileserver the sync fails claiming that the PC
doesn't comply with my organization's security policies. This is very weird since Work Folders is responsible for configuring these policies.
There's no Apply GPO option available in the Control Panel item.
When setting up a non-domain-joined client for Work Folders I'm not prompted for AD credentials. The setup fails with the error:
You 're not set up on the server. However, if I open the workfolders URL in Internet Explorer I do
get prompted for my AD credentials.
Here's some details about the environment:
Server 2012 R2 DC. No other GPO's than the work folder GPO.
    DNS alias called workfolders.<domain>.local configured.
Fileserver set up with self-signed certificate (SSC) bound to default website. The certificate is either manually installed on the clients or distributed via the GPO. The certificate is made with server name workfolders.<domain>.local.
Work Folder GPO on client OU:
    - Certificate distribution of SSC
    - Loopback Policy enabled
    - Work Folders enabled with Force automatic setup
Both servers and clients are VMs. Non-domain-joined client logged in as local administrator.
Has anyone else encountered these issues? Can anyone shed some light on how to resolve this?
    Thanks in advance!
    MicaH

Roberto, I don't have a W3SVC1 folder containing log files, so no dice. I did find out through event logs that the account that's used to authenticate is the fileservers' local administrator account! Then I remembered that my local Administrator
accounts' password on my client is the same as on the fileserver (it's a test environment). So I changed the clients local admin password and it finally worked!
I still have issues with the Device Policies, though. Any thought on that subject?
Edit: The issue with the device policies is caused by my testuser not being a local admin on the client. I had adjusted my powerplan settings so I could keep my RDP session to the client open and without admin rights the work folders policies cannot be applied.
Does anyone know how to set these policies using GPO?
