Date added column blank

i love the date added column. I think it's one of the best unmentioned new features in Lion.
I reinstalled OS 10.7 2 days ago, went through all of the updates to get current, because I was unhappy with the speed of my iMac 27, 3.4 Ghz & 16 gigs of RAM. The speed is unacceptable. (nothing changed, speed-wise)
Today I notice the Date Added column in any finder window is blank, except for 2 hyphens "– –".
Has anyone seen this or heard of it before? Did I hit a switch or turn something off by accident? I haven't made any other changes besides the reinstall.
What am I missing here?
Thanks,
Gregg

Thanks SmokeMonster, That did it. Actually I had installed Lion on an external drive and  forced indexing to stop by putting my other drives into Privacy in Spotlight. I didn't realize that it would carry on when I went back to running on my internal drive.
Paul Williams3, open Spotlight in System Preferences. Click on the Privacy tab and drag your hard drive(s) into the list to prevent Spotlight from indexing. I think you get an "Are you sure you want to do this?" message. Go ahead. This deletes the spotlight index of whatever you drag in there.
When you select whatever you put in there and click the minus button at the bottom left of the window, Spotlight will immediately begin to reindex.
Have a good day!

  • Date Added field blank in attachment

    Hi All,
I am adding an attachment (through coding ) to an UDO.
The attachemmt attaches fine but the Date Added field is blank and non editable.
Moreover I cannot find any APIs to fill this field with the current date.
As a result, my UDO does not get saved.
Please provide pointers to fill the Date Added field either automatically or through coding.
    Regards,
    Himanshu

Since there are no standard API's to set the date added field., you can use getExtensionField to set the date. The field ID for date Added within AttachmentSubIBeanIfc is "MODIFIED".
You can use this line of code to set the date added:
    attachmentBean.getExtensionField("MODIFIED").set(TypeFactory.createSysDatetime(new java.util.Date()));
where attachmentBean is of type AttachmentSubIBeanIfc.
    regards,
    Immanuel

  • Is there a "date added to itunes" type column? (and more)

OK so here's my dilema. I have a bunch of duplicate and bad songs mixed into my expansive music library.  I keep a backup of my entire music library on an external HDD.  Last time I transfered my library to a new laptop it took about 3 days to go through all of the songs in iTunes so I had a clean library (I HATE not having a clean library!).  What I would like to be able to do is make the genre of all of my bad/duplicate songs something like "do not use" so when I have to transfer my library again, I can just sort by genre and delete all of the junk in one shot rather than having to go through everything again.  I thought maybe I could import the junk back into iTunes and the "date added" column would be today so I would know which songs to rename.  However, the "date added" column is still the date from last year when I actually added the library to the computer so it does me no good.  Is there any way to add all of my junk into iTunes and sort so I know which songs to rename? Thanks!!

On your iTunes app on your desktop or macbook, If you go to iTunes>my apps> right click on the app and get info, hit file and it will tell you the last time it was updated. It says dated purchased, but it's the last time you updated it.
Hope it has the info your looking for. What version of iTunes are you using on your oSX device, (desktop or laptop)?

  • How do I transfer "date added" from one iTunes library to another?

I recently transfered my iTunes library from one Mac to another w/ no problem, however all of the dates in the date added column show the date of the library transfer and not the original date the music was imported into iTunes. Is there any way to retrieve or preserve the original dates? I know, not a "real' problem, but a concern for me nonetheless.
Thanks to anyone who can help.

  • "Date Added" values changed to be identical in some folders

    Hi,
I normally sort my work files (mostly .ppts) by "date added" to help me keep track, this usually works fine. I have the date added column showing in Finder and set the Folder Options to sort by date added.
I noticed today that in some folders (but not all) the date added value has been re-set by the system to be a random date (eg 30 Jan 2015 15:28 for one folder), and the date and time added is the exact same for all the files. Obviously this means I can't sort them anymore. I was wondering why this has happened and if it can be fixed as it's a really annoying and potentially serious issue.
    Running Yosemite 10.10.2 on a mid-2012 MBP.
    Thanks

    Hi Subha,
You can assing default values to the Variables...Fiscal Year2008; Version100...etc. so that the user need not input all the variables.
I am not sure whether you can assign a function--"on selection" of variables.  For better control It would be prudent to advise users to execute a function (if need be embed a SAVE function with in the sequence) on press of a button.

  • Itunes (11.2.1)- ALBUM SORT BY DATE ADDED ?

    Hello,
So before updating to Itunes version 11.2.1 my albums in itunes were visible and were sorted by ''date added''(even though I never chose this option). So the case would be that everytime I added a new song it would appear at the very end of my itunes library under ''Albums''. After updating it however, I have encountered a problem; Now my albums section is sorted in another way (Alphabetical order), So any newly added music will appear somewhere deep within all my other songs and not at the end of my library of albums.
Please help me resolve this problem since I have invested into music for many years, and can't find my music now.

I use an older iTunes so I don't know exactly how they have hte new one set up.  Presumably there is still a list view mode.  Use view options to display the date added column then sort by that.

  • HT2905 My itunes looks nothing like the examples in this tutorial.  I do not have "display exact duplicates" or "date added".  Can someone please help me remove duplicate songs?  Also, I downloaded two audio books and they are showing up in my song list.

My itunes looks nothing like the examples in this tutorial.  I do not have "display exact duplicates" or "date added".  Can someone please help me remove duplicate songs?  Also, I downloaded two audio books and they are showing up in my song list. Why???

'Show duplicates' is now under the 'View' menu. To see the 'Date added' column go to 'View options' from the 'View' menu and check it in the section under 'Stats'.
Click an audiobook once to select it and hit command-i (Mac) or control-i (Windows). Go to the 'Options' tab and set 'Media Kind' to 'Audiobook'.

  • Viewing purchases by date added

Just downloaded 11.0.1.12 and now cannot find a way to sort purchases by date added.  Please help!

    Enable the sidebar
    Ctrl S
The purchase link is under the itunes store in the left hand sidbar.
If the Date added field is not showing right mouse click on the header row and select Date Added. This will put the date added column in the table and you can click on the header to sort as usual

  • Date modified/Date Created/Date Added(timestamp) - not showing the actual date?

In finder, none of the date info seems to be accurate.
By example, I just downloaded a new app from a website (onyx in this case), todays date is Nov 13th and when I install the new app (i.e. drag and drop into Apps folders) in finder the Date modified says Nov. 1st, Date created says October 31. Should one of these columns not reflect the true date that the app actually got onto my mac? I understand that one of these clumns probably relfects the info contained within the downloaded app, but surely one column can tell me that I installed this app on November 13! The "Last opened" columns is the only "accurate" date column I have. (as I write this however, i've noticed that the 'Date Added column does say "Today").
I gues my question is what columne reflect what the file itself has imbedded in it, and what relfects the actions i've done (I.e. installed the app on Nov 13)
Any help would be very much appreciated. Note sure if this is somehting more worrisome or not, but i've had it for a while with no major issues other than frsutration of not understanding this. i'm on 10.7.2

The Date Modified column for the Applications folder itself will reflect the actual installation date. The others aren't supposed to.

  • Upgrading to new MacBook Pro but want to keep date added

    Hi Guys,
My 2008 MBP is coming to the end of its life (that or I just want a new one!) and I want to a new MBP. However I'm a DJ a rely heavily on my itunes library, the biggest feature being the date added column and then secondly playlists. Could someone tell me how I can migrate my Itunes library to the new MacBook keeping the date added (and ideally all other data including playlists, tags, ratings) all in tact?
    Many Thanks
    Barney

Yes, everything will be the same. Just make sure you take the folder named iTunes and drop it into ~/Music. When you launch iTunes it will all be there.

  • Help with "Date Added" when Syncing Playlist to iPhone5

So I recently switched my 4s for the 5 and first had trouble with the backup files.  I was able to figure out my issues there and fix them.  The only left over issues was that the playlist on my iphone as was missing some media in my smart playlist that should update automatically.  I didnt think much of it and figure when I got home I would plug it in and download everything and I should be fine. Got home and updated my ipod first with my new music (it had been a month since updating so wanted it to have everything), then plugged in my iphone, everything updated but I then noticed that some older songs were above my newest songs (not in reverse order like an old bug I dealth with), so I right clicked ont he smart playist and selected "Copy to Play Order" and tried to re-sync.
No luck, so I looked at the date added column and notice that my older mucic ONLY ON MY IPHONE had today's date instead of the original download date?  I looked at me smart playlist in iTunes and it was correct.  I even tried to remove the "Date Added" column from the iphone playlist menu which put everything in correct order but when i went to re-sync it reverted back and brought the column back up. So I next tried and manually un-synced all my music and than to re-sync again, NOW all my newest music is grayed out on my iphone with the sync icon next to them but wont download at all.
BTW, all the music I'm having toruble with shows as (10/1/12) as the "date added" date but the last time i downloaded anything was (9/26/12).
Not sure what to think about all this??

These are both great help to me, While I would love to continue hearing more tips I do have a question to add which you may know the answer to.
When using the trim tool   to make a video shorter or longer, because when setting the in and out points i can't make them exact until it's on the timeline, can you shorten or lenghthen it per frame, like when using the alt key to move the video, instead of dragging with the mouse?
    Thanks so much (:

  • Weird and Incorrect Date Added Info in iTunes

iTunes is showing me bizarre dates in the "Date Added" column.  Examples are "6/29/14180", "1/5/145", and "12/29/12364".  I should note that I'm running the latest version of iTunes and the latest version of Mavericks, but the iTunes library that I'm using is the library on my Snow Leopard drive (because I don't know a simple way of importing all of that music--25,000+ songs--into the Maverick side).  Anybody else experience this and/or know why this is?

  • Restoring Music to Computer - 'Date Added'

    Hi
My Macbook had to be reformatted so the HDD has been wiped.
I have to restore the music on my iPod by transferring it from there onto my Macbook.
I've added my music over the past few years and on iTunes, I like sorting it according to the 'date added' column.
I'm worried that when I transfer the music onto my Macbook, it will lose the original 'date added' information and my iTunes will just show everything as though it was added today.
Is there anyway I can get it to preserve the original date added data?
Thanks, would REALLY appreciate if it someone had the answer to this.

  • How to retain original song data (Date Added, etc.) after computer reformat.

    Hello!
I recently had to reformat my computer, and I was able to copy all my music files and data to an external hard drive.
I currently have iTunes installed on my C drive (Windows 7) and all my music files are on a partition of my PC hard drive (P:). See image below.
What I like to do is to retain all the original song information (Date Added, Last Played, Play Count, etc.) from before I reformated, without all the songs having a Date Added of today's date and time.
I've tried to research this elsewhere on the Internet. A couple suggestions I've read pertain mostly to Macs but included the following:
~ Using the "iTunes Library.itl" file by choosing a library. Not sure how to do this method on the Windows version. (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3155068?start=0&tstart=0)
~ Changing the iTunes Media folder location (under Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced tab). I changed it to the folder above (P:\My Music\iTunes\) and clicked OK but nothing happens.
Any help or detailed instructions are appreciated. Thanks in advance!

OK, I partially solved the problem.
I primarily followed the steps under Re-creating the iTunes Library file on this page:
iTunes: How to re-create your iTunes library and playlists  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1451
I imported using the iTunes Music Library.xml file that I saved before reformating. This file had all the correct library information before I reformatted, including the Play Count, Play Date UIC, Rating, and Date Added data. Snipet here:
    <dict>
              <key>Track ID</key><integer>20090</integer>
              <key>Name</key><string>Killer Queen</string>
              <key>Artist</key><string>Queen</string>
              <key>Composer</key><string>Freddie Mercury</string>
              <key>Album</key><string>Greatest Hits I</string>
              <key>Date Added</key><date>2011-02-27T21:44:06Z</date>
              <key>Play Count</key><integer>5</integer>
              <key>Play Date UTC</key><date>2011-04-14T05:11:12Z</date>
              <key>Rating</key><integer>80</integer>
    </dict>
Upon importing, all the music and playlists are now in my library along with all the original data I had before (Last Played, Plays, Ratings)...
...EXCEPT for the Date Added column. All the songs in my library show the same date of 05/15/2012 under Date Added.
Is there a reason why the Date Added data is not carried over?
On a side note: my music hard drive partition before the reformat was "J:", now it is "P:". So, to make it work I made a quick find/replace to the iTunes Music Library.xml so that all "\J:\" now show "\P:\". If this makes a difference, let me know.
    Thanks!

  • How do I display my columns, like "date added" in the new iTunes?

I updated iTunes. I like to play the music I most recently added first. I had this all sorted into neat columns in the old iTunes and now I cannot seem to sort by "date added" or "date modified".

If you don't see anything when you connect your ipod it's meybe something wrong with the USB cable, If you have another you can try that.
try to shut down or restart your ipod and then connect it.
