Date and time are wrong

My date and time are wrong on boot up and won't adjust back to normal automatically.  I think the internet is telling me it's a problem with either my PRAM or CMOS or NVRAM battery, the little guy that holds info while the big guy is tapped.  I want to replace this. Is that possible?  What is the battery actually called?

Hey MisterW,
Thanks for the question. It sounds like you wish to reset your PRAM/NVRAM, the following article should assist you:

'Requires=network.target' wasn't in it so I added it but nothing's changed. I've left it in because openVPN does require network.
As I said, I had this problem with a script so I don't think it's anything specific to openVPN. I had a weird occurrence this morning however. When I started the computer up this morning  openVPN worked just fine. However when the computer rebooted openVPN couldn't resolve the host address again.

    Meredith199,
does your MacBook Pro have an Eject key (⏏) in the top-right corner of the keyboard? If so, does pressing Control-⏏ show a restart/sleep/shutdown dialog box?
If you press Shift-⌘Q, does your MacBook Pro recognize that as an attempt to log out?

Yes, it seems simple. No, we can't tell you but I can tell you we've been seeing this same question here since FCPv1.

  • Entourage Calendar Events: Dates and times are not being saved accurately

After an event has been created and saved, the date and time will change pushing the event forward, but not consistently. Some events jump forward a few hours others an entire day or more. I've been using this program for many years without fault but this problem started several days ago after a recent automated software update. It is not only happening with newly created events, it has also altered events saved weeks ago! (note: time zone is set accurately in the System Preferences and Entourage)

I would check Microsoft's Entourage 2004 forum to see if others have experienced the same issue. Entourage 2004 has been replaced with Entourage 2008 awhile back. It may be those issues are fixed with 2008 and will never be in 2004, or you may need a later patch for 2004. If the automated software update was Microsoft's I'd contact Microsoft, if it was Apple's, this may just be a sign you need to upgrade your Microsoft to keep up with Apple. Whenever you do a system level software update you always need to verify compatibility bugs don't exist with the newer system when you are talking about other third party software. There are way too many third party software titles out there new and old for Apple to test with its own system given the time frame people desire updates.

  • Re: internal battery for eMac. Where can I buy one? (Date and time are becoming garbled).

I have an eMac which shows the date and time as random figures, suggesting that the internal battery is dead. Where can I buy a replacement? My local Apple reseller does not stock them.

That helps! Considering adding that to your profile. It can get you help faster for future "where to get" questions. We have a lot of active helpers here who are your countrymen (and women).
You may be able to find a battery seller locally, The PRAM battery is not limited to computer use. That model is also used in alarm systems. Look for a "1/2 AA 3.6V lithium" battery--that's about as generic description as one can give.
I found a seller that has a chart of battery number equivalents:
    http://www.medicbatteries.com/battery-cross-reference-guide
Look at the last line. There is a long list of manufacturers' battery numbers that are 1/2AA 3.6V. As long as you find one that's lithium (haven't seen any that aren't) you should be good to go.

  • Changing date and time is wrong with time zone problem

Okay, searched some of the forums, but didn't get the most correct answer to this:
I just imported all my photos into Aperture from iPhoto (chose to have Aperture manage files as I don't plan on using iPhoto any longer. When I imported the files, I decided to do some organizing by date into folders. no problem.
In some of my projects, I found some files that I imported from scans or got from others who had a film roll and processed it at a lab, and the dates from those files aren't the dates that the event took place. I went into Metadata>Adjust date and time, and changed the date (not so much the time I'm worried about), and checked the "change the masters" little box, too.
After I close out of that box, the picture has the wrong date. I've determined this is because of the time zone support. I currently live in Japan, and I would like my photos here to show up as the date in the place they were taken. I think the date I enter, it thinks is the date I'm currently in (GMT +9), but aperture chooses to convert the date as if I was saying "hey, the picture I took happened on "date" in GMT +0:00)" which then makes it look in the metadata view as if it happened a day earlier.
Any imported photos come in as the correct date and time and correct time zone, as far as I can see. It's just when I change the date and time it thinks I mean to have aperture convert it to GMT + 0:00. (but on a little more of a funny side... older pictures that happened in other time zones back in the states it lists the correct date and time for when the picture was taken, but "says" it's GMT +9:00) (another issue I'll deal with later maybe!)
Hope I've described it in such a way that you can get it.

I changed time and now my MacBook won't work

  • Date and time often wrong

My passport date and time randomly revert, about once a week, to show the wrong values. The date always changes to 9 march 2015, and the time to some random no. This all happens independent of whether I have auto date/time update set to on or off. This happens in the uk and abroad. This is the most rudimentary of errors, and is obviously a real pain. All messages and photos go out of sequence, alarm obviously fails, etc. There appears to be no pattern to when this happens. Can anyone help please? Thanks.

  • Every site I go to is not trusted. Date and time are correct. How do I fix?

Every time I try and go to a site, I am told it is not a trusted sited. Some sites do not open like they are supposed to and sites like Facebook say "Warning: Unresponsive script". I have seen some answers that say the date and time must be correct and they are, I'm not able to find an answer on how to fix this. Please help

You can check the connection settings.
    *Tools > Options > Advanced > Network : Connection > Settings
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Options+window+-+Advanced+panel
If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.
    See "Firefox connection settings":
Check out why the site is untrusted and click "Technical Details to expand this section.<br>If the certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided (sec_error_unknown_issuer) then see if you can install this intermediate certificate from another source.
You can retrieve the certificate and check details like who issued certificates and expiration dates of certificates.
*Click the link at the bottom of the error page: "I Understand the Risks"
Let Firefox retrieve the certificate: "Add Exception" -> "Get Certificate".
*Click the "View..." button and inspect the certificate and check who is the issuer of the certificate.
You can see more Details like intermediate certificates that are used in the Details pane.
If "I Understand the Risks" is missing then this page may be opened in an (i)frame and in that case try the right-click context menu and use "This Frame: Open Frame in New Tab".
*Note that some firewalls monitor (secure) connections and that programs like Sendori or FiddlerRoot can intercept connections and send their own certificate instead of the website's certificate.
*Note that it is not recommended to add a permanent exception in cases like this, so only use it to inspect the certificate.

  • Netflix app error - Please make sure network connectivity and date and time are accurate

Am getting this error message when trying to view instant movies via ipad2 or iphone.  Anyone have this error?  I can't connect to Netflix via either device - I've tried unistalling & re-installing Netflix app on both devices.  I  am connected to the internet via our home network and date & time are correct on all devices & home computer - any other setting I'm missing?  I didn't have any of these problems before I installed the new iOS5 on my devices.  Netflix said it's an apple operating setting that needs to be modified.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    HI Jason,
I feel for you. That's a lot of work!
How large is the partition you tried to create using BootCamp for Windows?
And how much free disk space is on the MacBook startup disk?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.
Just in case, check the Mac startup disk for errors.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart

  • Mac Mini won't connect to internet using Apple products (Safari, iTunes, AppStore). Date and time are frozen to the moment CPU is booted up. Firefox works. Cannot update.

For the past few days my Mac Mini has been having issues.
Safari won't connect to internet, but Firefox does.
Time and date are frozen. Only resets when copmuter is re-booted.
Unable to update via App Store and iTunes won't connect either.
    Please advise.

    Hi again,
Let me ask for some better help for you that is familiar with this problem (if in fact it is a similar problem with the IP address and your ISP.
The other topic concerning this can be found at:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2725608
It is a somewhat lengthy thread but may just apply to your situation.
Anyways I will see if I can call on some better help for you. Hang in there. Best to arm yourself with enough info before contacting Comcast so they might know what you are dealing with fully.
    littleshouders
edit: I have posted for some extra help for you that may have a better idea of what's going on if it is your ISP and their modem and how it handles the IP address causing Safari and iTunes not to connect. Hang in there it may take awhile but I'm sure someone will pop in to help.

  • Date and time 12 hours off

The date and time are 12 hours off on all my Idevices (Ipads and I pod touches), YET the time is correct on my Iphone and all my computers and my router.  The date/time are set to generate automatically.  When I turn this feature 'off' the time immediate changes 12 hours back to the correct time.  However, synchronized events on my calendars (say, with gmail calendar) remain 12 hours off.  I have no idea what is going on.  I had thought this may have something to do with my wi-fi and/or router, but the 'automatic' date/time change regardless of whether wi-fi is even on or off on the devices.  Also, I can't figure out why the Iphone would have the right time when the other devices all have the time off by 12 hours.  Any ideas

Thanks, but something is still wrong.  I have tried to set the date and time manually and this does fix the general time on the Idevice; however, programs such as weather and the calendar still show events 12 hours when they synch to gmail calendar. So something about the Idevice is still telling the device it is 12 hours off even though I have set the date/time manually.
