  • My grandson deleted all the data from his ipod touch . all he gets when he turns it on is a gray screen and an apple logo. Our computer no longer recognizes the ipod nor does itunes, Help.

My grandson delted all data from his ipod touch {thinking he was deleting his songs.] Now all he gets when he turns it on is a gray screen with an apple logo. We do not have it backed up nor was it ever turned on to itunes. We purchased it used from a co worker and didnt get that far.. Our computers do not recognise it as any thing nor does itunes when we have it plugged into itunes. Any way to fix this? Apple support will remote into our computer to fix it. For $ 99.00. Well needless to say he used all his savings to buy the ipod so ......  Any free ideas??

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Any way to back up data on an iPod touch (3rd party apps)?

I think I know the answer to this one but I'll throw it out there just in case. First of all, I'm apparently one of the lucky ones who has my iPod touch lock up at the apple screen several times a week during certain syncs (normally adding or removing apps) only to find it hot as a skillet and totally unresponsive sometimes hours later. At this point I'm pretty much used to having to completely rebuild the iPod touch regularly (at least it takes a little less than 6 hours now). What I'm wanting to know is: is there any way to back up ALL of the data on the iPod touch??? The data in all the built in apps is there after a restore and even some of the third party apps seem to keep their data (Shopper for instance has my shopping list). The problem is most apps just dump all their data and it's a pain to reenter everything and it's aggravating losing any scores or progress in games (yeah, I know. not really a major issue). Some examples include: Bloomberg loses all of my stock information, Units loses quick conversions, OmniFocus looses all settings (db is "in the cloud" so data can be retrieved) Chopper loses all scores and progress, Motion X Poker loses all scores and progress, all my weather apps lose the cities I normally load into them... I'm sure there are others but these are some of my most used and thus most missed after every restore.
Every backup completes and I never have any errors. It's just clear that "backup" really means partial backup in this case and I can't find any way to even do anything about it manually. Is this something the application programmers have control over? Or is this just something that I'll have to wait for another update to the software? On a related note is there any consistent way to lessen the crashes? I've searched quite a bit and it seems like it's fairly random. I've relegated myself to only adding and deleting apps through iTunes but that still leaves me open to crashes. Not to mention it completely eliminates the browsing and spur of the moment shopping on the iPod touch. As for a potential hardware problem, my 16GB before this with the same apps loaded did the exact same thing so I don't think it's the hardware.
Thanks for any help or advice. All in all I do love this thing I just wish it would become more stable. After all I thought that was the reason for the close control Apple was keeping over developers.

Thanks. I hadn't seen that before and I'll have to look into it a little more. The one thing that has me wondering is the part where they state that the iPod touch is now supported "for iPod to computer transfers only". I would think that given the nature of the product there would have to be some way to transfer the data back to the iPod... I might have a look at the demo version after work here. I guess the obvious question is; have you used this with an iPod touch and had success?
Edit: Just noticed this seems to be a Windows product only so it won't actually help me. Thanks though.

  • How can you transfer data from an ipod touch to the itunes library without having all your data deleted?

I have a laptop and the hard drive had to be replaced because it WILL NOT work (This broken hard drive will be refered to as "HD1" from now on). So I had no choice but to have HD1 replaced with a better hard drive (the new one will be refered to as "HD2" from now on). I had HD1 for about 5 years, but what is stuck on HD1 is my itunes library will all of my music, like I said before HD1 will not work so I cannot retrieve any of my itunes data, or any data to be exact. But also, my data that was synced in HD1's itunes library is also on my ipod touch, which is still functional for the time being. HD2 has been installed and working perfectly and I installed itunes on it as well. If I synced my ipod touch to HD2's itunes library, all of my music on the ipod touch will get deleted. What I'm trying to do is have all of my music on my ipod touch transfered to HD2's itunes library without having anything deleted.
    Key things to remember:
-"HD1" is my broken hard drive
-"HD2" is my new and awesome hard drive
-I can't access HD1 at all because it doesn't work
-I have an ipod touch with all of HD1's music on it
-HD2 has an empty itunes library on it
-I need a way to transfer all the data on my ipod touch to HD2's itunes library without having anything deleted
Is there someone, anyone who can help me out with this?

I think so when you sign in your itunes library with your apple id which you were using on HD1 the data will be transfered or simply use icloud.

  • The contacts and calendar data on my iPod touch will not sync with my Mac

I have a 2nd generation ipod touch, and an iMac running iTunes 8.2.1.
I have been away from my mac for a few months and have entered a lot of contact and calendar info into my ipod touch.
Now, when I try to sync the contacts and calendar data on my ipod touch with my mac, the data will not sync to my mac.
Similarly, for the last couple months, the contact and calendar data on my ipod touch has not been able to sync with my mobileme account.
I cannot afford to lose the contact and calendar data on my ipod touch.
Can anyone kindly inform me how to fix this syncing problem without losing such data?

I do not understand what "it says in the windows connect to itunes" means?
What is "it" and what is "windows"?
    Maybe:

    Or
    See
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    - I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
    - Then do the other actions of:

    - New cable and different USB port

  • Can you sync/ restore an iPhone 5 with ios6 using backup data from an iPod touch 4g running ios5?

Ok! So I've preordered my first iPhone ever, the iPhone 5. I will finally be letting my iPod touch go!
I've synced my iPod touch 4g to iTunes so that once I receive the iPhone, I can plug it in and restore and sync all my purchased apps, etc. However, the iPod touch is on ios 5. I do not plan to update and back it up on ios6. Will there be any issues. When I try to restore my iPhone 5 on iOS 6 using data from a iPod touch 4g that ran ios5?

It should be fine.  I restored my new iPod Touch from the backup of my iPad.  You will have to reenter keychain items like passowords since keychain items only restore back to the same device unless you use an encrypted backup.  The iOS of the target device (phone for you) has to be at lest as great as that of the source device.

  • How DID I get this much data on my iPod Touch 1st gen?

ITunes on my brand new MacBook Pro shows 3762 songs at 62.84 GB with 99.9999% of them being AAC encoded.
My 1st gen 32GB iPod Touch holds ALL of that data, plus 210 apps -- and everything works/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png Select any song at random and it will play. Select any app and it will run/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png/___sbsstatic__ _/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png 62.84GB of songs on a 32GB Touch?? How did I do that? Plus, it STILL has 6.7GB available/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png/___sbsst atic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png It's running iOS 3.1.3. I've added songs and apps over the years without any problems whatsoever.
My wife has a 30GB iPod Video White (5th gen) -- it has 4342 songs, with 9.4GB still available/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png I loaded everything I had in my iTunes, and she's been adding songs on her own. So hers ALSO has more GBs of songs on it than it was made to hold. And hers works fine as well.
Now we get a brand new up-to-date 32GB iPod Touch 4th gen (Retina Display, FaceTime, etc). It's the latest and greatest (she got it through an employee incentive point plan at Boeing). I wasn't even thinking about how much data was in the 1st gen Touch -- my brain was just saying I've got all my songs and apps in my 1st gen, so I should be able to get all of it in the new 4th gen model. They're both 32GB, and the overhead (system, etc), is almost identical (okay, the 1st gen had 29+GB free and the 4th gen has 28+GB free). Still, pretty comparable.
I tried to sync iTunes with the new 4th gen iPod Touch and it says only about 1500 songs (of the 3762 total) can be loaded. That's it. No more/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png That would also mean NO apps at all.
We tried to get this explained at a One-to-One meeting AND the Genius Bar at our local Apple Store, but NOBODY had an answer.
How is it that my old 1st gen 32GB Touch can hold more than twice the GB of songs AND 210 apps at the same time, and work, while the new 4th gen Touch is doing "sorta" what's expected of it -- that is, running out of space with only 1500 songs
One possibility is that both old iPod's began their lives under iTunes 9.x. But I've updated iTunes consistently as it has moved into v10 and both older models have had apps and music added using whatever the latest version of iTunes has been released.
Could that be the reason? Has anybody heard of this before? Can anybody explain it? The guys at the store were stumped. So am I. They "apologized" and said they understood how we felt, but there wasn't any resolution to the question. Other than -- DON'T mess with the old models as long as they are working Yeah, but I'd like to see the NEW model behave the same Wouldn't we all?

No, the option you mention is/was NOT checked. When I talked to two people at the Apple store (One-to-One) and the Genius Bar, they said that it was correctly set (that is, NOT checked), considering the files were ALREADY AAC encoded.
As I posted, pretty much all of the songs are already encoded as AAC files. They have all been captured off CD's in that format, or purchased from iTunes in that format. They were transferred to the 1st gen Touch in that format, and the attempt was made to make the exact same transfer to the new 4th gen Touch in the exact same format -- with the result that barely half would transfer over to the new Touch.
One would think that it might be set one way for the older model and one way for the newer, but that's not the case. As an FYI, I DID try checking that option after the first failure of getting everything to load, but it didn't make any difference.

  • Data Encryption on iPod Touch? (Fall 2009 Model)

In the iPod touch 3.1 user guide, it says twice (once about resetting the iPod and once about the 10 failed passcode attempts):
"On Fall 2009 models with 32 GB or more: by removing the encryption key to the data (which is encrypted using 256-bit AES encryption)"
Does this mean then that all data stored on the iPod touch is encrypted, including emails, contacts, passwords, etc...?

Thank you all for the replies. The thing is I ran the scan, I thought it was just a scam at first, then wasn't so sure after. Sorry if I sound like I'm asking the same question over and over, but there is no risk of any sort and no need to restore my iPod T? Sorry just need to be so certain!

  • How to set up a new iPod Touch and transfer data from old IPod Touch

ok, it's Friday night, I finished the cheese and about 1/2 a bottle of wine (myself...  not ideal for a smurf my size) and I still can't find the answer to my question after searching [to the best of my most current ability] all over the forums (I even searched long before I started drinking wine). I appologize right now for my ignorance and inability to find the answer on my own.... but could someone PLEASE, just tell me the best way to kill my daughter's Ipod Touch 2nd Gen (advertised as Gen 3, ha, ha, on me), and set up her new-(to-us) Ipod Touch Gen 4? I've already backed up her old device to my computer?  (it's a PC - sorry, it's free from my husband's office)
Do I set up her new-ish Gen 4 as a "new device" or "restore from back up?" She's young enough (grade school - & why she gets old/cheaper HW) that we both still uses my iTunes acct for her device and mine so that I own & can monitor/manage the music that we both listen to... but this time I'll set up her own iCloud acct.  Although the new device (let's call it device B) has been wiped clean from the last user, how do I set it up? New device or restore from bk up? Now that she saved up the $ I paid for it, to pay me, she's driving me crazy about getting it going for her. Her orig/current device, iPod Gen 2ish (we can refer to that as device A) has been backed up to my computer and I'd like to port all of her data (calendar, contacts, pictures/movies, etc) to her new device.  Please help this old mom... my girl is driving me crazy... and I feel bad not delivering her goods.  Many thanks.

  • What date will the Ipod Touch 5 come out?

I know it will be out in october but what date? I sold my Ipod Touch 4 the other day and I would like to know how long I have to wait.

    All Apple has said:
The new iPod touch, starting at $299 (U.S.), is available for pre-order at the Apple Online Store on September 14 and arrives in Apple Retail Stores in October.

due to the virus attack i had to format my windows laptop...now when i installed new itunes software i had to sync my ipod touch again but it says that if i do it then the data present on my ipod touch will be erased as it is syncd to some older library... how should i protect my ipod touch data?

With all you media (apps, music) in the iTunes library connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup. Do that by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up. Then restore the iPod from that backup.
Note the the iPod backup that iTunes makes does not included synced media like apps and music.

  • ITunes cannot read the data on my iPod touch

Just three weeks or so ago, I was able to use iTunes without any problems to put a few songs on my iPod Touch 2nd Gen. Recently, however, whenever I try to connect my iPod to iTunes via USB, I get an error message that says something along the lines of: "iTunes cannot read the data on xxx's iPod Touch. Go to the Summary tab and choose Restore to restore this iPod to it's original factory settings.". I don't know why it says this since my iPod is functioning normally. My iPod shows up on the left hand side of the iTunes window as "iPod" instead of "xxx's iPod Touch" like it used to. The only options I have are Check for Update (disabled) and Restore. Is there any way to fix this without restoring my iPod? And if I have to restore, can I do so without losing (or having to re-transfer) any of my data that hasn't been or can't be backed up? Please help and thanks in advance!
P.S. My iPod is in its genuine state: it hasn't been jailbroken or anything like that.

Unfortunately, I've already tried that. Also, here is a list of other things I've tried, but have taken no effect:
-Recharging, Restarting, Resetting, and Reconnecting my iPod Touch to my computer
    -Restarting my computer
    -Reinstalling iTunes
-Reinstalling all iTunes, Apple, and iPod USB drivers
-Updating the same drivers (but no updates were found)
    -Using a different USB port
-Connecting to a different computer (doesn't work on my Toshiba laptop either, which is running the same OS and the same version of iTunes as my PC)
My backup plan was to copy the new songs to my iPod by pasting them through Windows Explorer. My iPod shows up as a portable device under My Computer - as always - but the only thing I can access is a folder full of the photos on my iPod. I think this is normal, but I can't do what I want to do! Do you (or anyone else) have any other good ideas? Remember, I really don't want to do a restore unless I absolutely have to.
