  • I had my mac formatted ipod video (5th gen) and plugged it into windows.

And now it constantly asks me to restore it, and I do, and it asks me to restore the ipod again and that it's corrupt.
Is there ANY way to fix this? Should I try to reformat it to mac?

Thanks, but is the corrupt message normal?
I wouldn't have expected to see that message when you connect a Mac formatted iPod to Windows. Something along the lines of, "Windows cannot read the contents of the iPod. Use Windows to reformat" or similar is what I would have thought.
well, just my luck. i'll try formatting my ipod to mac format when I get the chance next. oh, and my warranty just expired not even 2 weeks ago. I swear I'm so lucky.

  • Delete others data on ipod touch 4th gen (6.0.1)

i have a 8 gb 4th gen ipod touch. the others section in itunes shows that it is taking 1.80 gb!! and i think its too much for just contacts and stuff. i removed my mail associated too. i tried restoring but in vain. i dont have any music too. i didnt put anything so that i could get free space for games. i downloaded diskaid but i dont know what to do with it? please help. and any suggestions are always welcome...:)

An "other" that large may indicate that the "other" included corrupted files or it may just be normal for the content on your iPod.  Usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.
    To restore from backup see:

  • How to format ipod classic (7th gen)?

Windows 7 computer recognizes my iPod classic 160GB, but iTunes doesn't recognize it. It's new, and I'm thinking it needs to be formatted. Any advice?

Bear with me, if these have been tried, but at least you didn't say that you have tried everything.
    iPod Not recognised by Windows
If you are using Windows, I would suggest reinstalling iTunes, this would repair any corrupted Apple Mobile Device driver that is required for iTunes to interface with USB devices.
    After Re-installing, reboot your PC.
    Disconnect the PC from Internet
    Stop your Antivirus
Reset your iPod - Press Menu and Center Button for about 10 secs till the Apple logo comes ON then release the buttons. Select you language.
Connect your iPod to a high power USB 2.0 Port and not to any USB hub. (if you using a Mac, not on the Keyboard USB port)
What do you see on the iPod Display - should be sychonisation  for a few secs then do not disconnect screen.
if iTunes comes up restore it.
After restore - Start back your antivirus and connect the Internet.
If this doesn't work, refer to this link on do a disk diagnostic by tt2 to chack the health of your hardisk.

  • How DID I get this much data on my iPod Touch 1st gen?

ITunes on my brand new MacBook Pro shows 3762 songs at 62.84 GB with 99.9999% of them being AAC encoded.
My 1st gen 32GB iPod Touch holds ALL of that data, plus 210 apps -- and everything works/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png Select any song at random and it will play. Select any app and it will run/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png/___sbsstatic__ _/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png 62.84GB of songs on a 32GB Touch?? How did I do that? Plus, it STILL has 6.7GB available/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png/___sbsst atic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png It's running iOS 3.1.3. I've added songs and apps over the years without any problems whatsoever.
My wife has a 30GB iPod Video White (5th gen) -- it has 4342 songs, with 9.4GB still available/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png I loaded everything I had in my iTunes, and she's been adding songs on her own. So hers ALSO has more GBs of songs on it than it was made to hold. And hers works fine as well.
Now we get a brand new up-to-date 32GB iPod Touch 4th gen (Retina Display, FaceTime, etc). It's the latest and greatest (she got it through an employee incentive point plan at Boeing). I wasn't even thinking about how much data was in the 1st gen Touch -- my brain was just saying I've got all my songs and apps in my 1st gen, so I should be able to get all of it in the new 4th gen model. They're both 32GB, and the overhead (system, etc), is almost identical (okay, the 1st gen had 29+GB free and the 4th gen has 28+GB free). Still, pretty comparable.
I tried to sync iTunes with the new 4th gen iPod Touch and it says only about 1500 songs (of the 3762 total) can be loaded. That's it. No more/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png That would also mean NO apps at all.
We tried to get this explained at a One-to-One meeting AND the Genius Bar at our local Apple Store, but NOBODY had an answer.
How is it that my old 1st gen 32GB Touch can hold more than twice the GB of songs AND 210 apps at the same time, and work, while the new 4th gen Touch is doing "sorta" what's expected of it -- that is, running out of space with only 1500 songs
One possibility is that both old iPod's began their lives under iTunes 9.x. But I've updated iTunes consistently as it has moved into v10 and both older models have had apps and music added using whatever the latest version of iTunes has been released.
Could that be the reason? Has anybody heard of this before? Can anybody explain it? The guys at the store were stumped. So am I. They "apologized" and said they understood how we felt, but there wasn't any resolution to the question. Other than -- DON'T mess with the old models as long as they are working Yeah, but I'd like to see the NEW model behave the same Wouldn't we all?

No, the option you mention is/was NOT checked. When I talked to two people at the Apple store (One-to-One) and the Genius Bar, they said that it was correctly set (that is, NOT checked), considering the files were ALREADY AAC encoded.
As I posted, pretty much all of the songs are already encoded as AAC files. They have all been captured off CD's in that format, or purchased from iTunes in that format. They were transferred to the 1st gen Touch in that format, and the attempt was made to make the exact same transfer to the new 4th gen Touch in the exact same format -- with the result that barely half would transfer over to the new Touch.
One would think that it might be set one way for the older model and one way for the newer, but that's not the case. As an FYI, I DID try checking that option after the first failure of getting everything to load, but it didn't make any difference.

  • Using a Windows formatted iPod Nano (4th Gen) with Bootcamp on a Mac(Win XP

Hey I was wondering if anyone knows if you can use a previously formatted iPod Nano (4th Gen) with a Mac that has XP Bootcamped on to it. If the Nano is placed in manually manage music with the original computer it was formatted with, will it be able to accept music, movies, podcasts, etc from the windows on the Mac or will they still be incompatible?

Well, I have 4 internal drive bays filled already, is there room somewhere for 5th one in the box? I wasn't aware of it if there is?? My mac is MacPro3,1, early 2008.
That macsales.com link is interesting but I'm not in the US (I'm in Croatia), and all those brands are supidly expensive here, that $80 esata docking station is almost $200 here... bahh. For that price I may as well buy a whole new 3TB external disk, I want to dock the old one to save money.
I've browsed around and I've found Icy Box docks, which have much more reasonable prices:
    BOX IB-110StUS2-B
    ICY BOX IB-111StUS2-Wh
    ICY BOX IB-115StUS2HC
They all claim to have OSX support... anyone have any experience with them?

  • IPod nano gen 4 Mac formatted: if I do a PC format, will it wipe out existing songs, audiobooks etc.?

My PC wants me to format the nano. Will this cause all the existing data to be wiped out and the Mac reformatted to work on that computer again?

Niel, does this mean a PC (Windows 7) formatted ipod nano can be synched on a Mac (with songs, etc.) and comingled with data previously synched from the PC? What I would like to do is download into the ipod nano stuff from both the PC and the Mac with the PC being the primary computer connected to the nano.

  • Ipod Nano date format

I have an Ipod nano and have started to download podcasts. These are dated, but for some reason my Nano will only use a rather odd date format, where the month comes first, and then the date. I have searched for the option to turn this off, and return to dd/mm/yyyy, but cannot find it. Can anyone help?

    Hi Richard,
    See this post:
    iPod 1.2: About the Clock
    ...in particular this part:
"Depending on the language iPod is set to use, the date and time format will change accordingly."
The default for English may be the American standard of month/day/year, rather than the European standard you were expecting.

  • How to use Windows formatted iPod nano to move music to a new Mac?

    Hi all,
I need to transfer my iPhone's musics, songs, apps and photo, etc to the Mac and I came across this http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329" guide at Apple Support site since I owned a iPod nano.
My questions is since my iPod nano is configured for Windows will the Mac be able to read it since it's stated clearly in the guide "While a Windows formatted iPod may work on a Mac, Apple supports this configuration only with iPod shuffle."
If I follow through the guide, 1. Switch the iPod to manual update and enable disk use, 2. Locating and consolidating the iTunes Media folder, 3. Copy iTunes folder to iPod. I will still need to restore the iPod to work in Mac and end up nothing left inside meaning songs, photo all erased.
Also, anyone using third party software like http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/ Can advise if it's good to use this? And if iPod nano configured for Windows can works with this?
Need other more solution other this to transfer the mentioned data to Mac.
    Thanks.

iPhone… iPod… iPod Nano… which one it is? You are trying to transfer music from what source, using what medium, and to what target?

Where exactly is this stated? I am unable to find this statement in the KB article you mentioned. And are you talking iPhone or iPod? This KB article applies only to iPod.

  • How do I transfer my current iTunes Library for a 5th gen. Nano to a used iPod touch 2nd gen.?

I was given a used iPod touch 2nd. gen because my old faithful 5th generation nano was tragically washed. But I'm scared to just plug the new one into my computer to see what happens. I want to make sure I don't lose all of the music I have on my nano. Anyone know how to do this?

Not sure what you are atlaking about.
Lose what mui from what ipod.
Your music should be on your computer.  Sync it to your ipod.
