Date formats and etext templates

I have been working with etext templates in the last few days and am struggling with date conversion. My XML file has dates in the format DD-MON-YY and my output requires DDMMYYYY. It seems that the format conversion in etext template only works when the xml date is in the format YYYY-MM-DD. I thought I would convert the DD-MON-YY using a combination of TO_DATE and TO_CHAR but TO_CHAR doesn't seem to accept the date mask in etext templates. It looks like I will have to modify the original report unless someone has a way to achieve this in the template.
Thanks,
Dave

I had to change the report. You may be able to change the setup in the reports server to alter the default date format but I didn't want to do that in case it affected the output of any of the other reports that are being run. (N.B. I haven't tried this myself so not sure it can be done).
The change to the report is pretty simple, I just added a formula column that took a copy of the standard column in the report and used to_char to reformat the date. In my case I reformatted to YYYY-MM-DD so that I could use the template to change the format to the required style. This is just in case there is a later change in the output style so I won't have to modify the report again.
When the date in the XML is in the format YYYY-MM-DD the documented formatting options work (e.g. "Date , DDMMYYYY" would convert "2005-10-26" to "26102005").

  • Help with date format and sql

    Hi
    I am a complete oracle idiot.
    I have created a table with 2 columns po_id,po_date. Yhe id data type is number,date type is date. To add values to the table i enter something like
    "insert into purchase_orders(po_id,po_date) values(1,01/01/2004)"
    It does not accept the date and will not add the record, i have also tried the date format 01-Jan-2004.
    What is the proper way to add the date.
    Thanks
    Garry

    You probably want to use an explicit to_date cast. That lets you specify the format of the date string, i.e.
    INSERT INTO purchase_orders( po_id, po_date )
      VALUES( 1, to_date( '01/01/2004', 'DD/MM/YYYY' );Justin

  • Problem with the Date format and sending it to R/3

    Hi all,
    I have an Adaptive RFC application which fetches the data from the R/3 and displays the Employee's Personal Data.
    I am using a ZFM which is customised as per the requirement from the Standard BAPI_EMPLOYEE_GETDATA.
    Now the Problem i am facing is Date is default and Optional Parameter in RFC.
    If i execute the RFC in R/3 without Date it is not filling the Internal Tables. And if i pass the Date it is filling the Internal Table and fetches the Records.
    So in WD application i am inputing Employee FirstName, LastName or the Employee ID.
    User can give any of the above input or combination of FirstName and LastName Or only the Employee ID.
    Now the Main Problem is of Date which is of type Date.
    I have also tried the SimpleDateFormat Class, but i am not able to achieve the result.
    I have also seen the Links and threads on SDN, but unable to solve the problem.
    So pls help me out asap.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Dhruv Shah

    Hi ,
    By default , RFC accept date format of SQL date (yyyy-mm-dd) . If you are using a date picker from WD, it directly set the date in SQL date format. Incase if you are trying to pass date to RFC in some other way you have to convert that into SQL date format before passing.
    if you are passing String date of format dd-mm-yyyy , you try this method to convert that to SQL date and pass to your RFC.
    public java.sql.Date sqlDateConvert( String date)  {
        //@@begin sqlDateConvert()
         java.sql.Date dateObj=null;
         try{
              StringTokenizer tempStringTokenizer = new StringTokenizer(""+date,"-");          int dd=Integer.parseInt(tempStringTokenizer.nextToken().trim());
                                    int mm=Integer.parseInt(tempStringTokenizer.nextToken().trim());
              mm=mm-1;
              int yyyy=Integer.parseInt(tempStringTokenizer.nextToken().trim());
              Calendar cal =Calendar.getInstance();
              cal.set(yyyy,mm,dd);
              dateObj = new java.sql.Date( cal.getTime().getTime());
         }catch(Exception e)
              return dateObj;
    Hope this will help you.

  • How to set Date format and how to edit

    Hi all,
    I am supposed to select a date from calendar and put the date in a textfield in the format dd/mm/yyyy.
    Getting date from the calendar and putting it in textfield is not a big problem.
    Here I have to edit the date in the text field in such a way that clicking with a mouse on "dd" in the textfield dd part of the textfield should get selected and I should be able to edit date without affecting any other part in the textfield.Similarly clicking on the "mm" of text field,the mm part should get selected and i should be able to edit month without affecting other parts of the textfield and similarly the year field also.Here I should not be able to edit the "/" which is in between dd and mm, mm and yyyy.Is there any date format which i can set to textfield to achieve this.
    pls help me.

  • SUI Time Calendar Date Format and Hours

    Hi
    In Fusion/HCM Cloud, the calendar in the Time page of SUI is currently displaying the date in the format MM/DD rather than DD/MM as per our user preferences. Does anyone know how to change this or know if it is a server setting?
    Also, when booking absence (full day/elapsed time work schedule) the number of hours is showing 1.0 hours on the first and last day of the absence and then 7.0 hours for the other days in the calendar but this isn't configured anywhere.  This is showing correctly in the Availability Calendar within My Portrait. Does anyone know where these hours are coming from?
    Any ideas appreciated.
    Many thanks
    Karen

    Do you have a Date object or a String object?
    If it's a String object, then just use split or replaceAll or substring (whichever you're most comfortable with) to get just the "2007" portion and then Integer.parseInt.
    If it's a Date object, then it doesn't have a format, and you can just feed it to a Calendar and get the year.
    Other than that was does "doesn't work" mean?

    When i generate the output in excel format then date format is changing to dd-mon-yy and who have data in number format is automatically going to rtight alignment.
    But client need all the date output in the left alignment (dd-mon-yyyy) ..Please advice me ..

    Hi Helios,
    Thanks for giving reply. We are using 11.5.10.2 Application . We are not using any ADI..I just run the xml file in my local system itself in excel format..Date format is coming dd-mon-yy.Not in Apps environment.

  • Date Format and Number Format

    Hello,
    Is there any possibility to change the date or number in HANA? Is it possible for a user to see amounts in the data preview as e.g. 12.000,50 vs. 12,000.50 ?
    What about a similar question concerning the date format?
    Thanks,
    Ingo

    Hi Ingo
    the date/number format completely depends on the client you are using to display the data.
    In SAP HANA studio, you can switch on/off output formatting :
    However, this will use the local locale formatting preferences.
    For more control on the formatting a proper reporting tool is required.

  • Date Formatting and SSN Formatting from BIP Report

    Hello,
    I found out how to format phone numbers.
    I just need help in formatting 2 fields from our report.
    1. The Call Date (MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM:SS AM/PM)
    2. SSN (123-45-6789)
    First, I am using the command below to convert the date into canonical format after the namespace:psfn.
    <?psfn:totext(ssWarrantyUpdatedDt, 'YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MI:SS')?>
    I then tried formatting the date using the Microsoft Format Mask definitions but it didn't work.
    On the SSN, I didn't see anything from the bookshelf that shows me how to do this formatting.
    Can anyone please help me?
    Thank you

    Hi,
    If you XML data is coming from Oracle Report (RDF), why dont you do date and SSN formatting in SQL itself. So that you will get directly the required format in XML. That is how I am doing in my report. Most of the time it is easy to make changes in Oracle Report SQL rather than in template bcoz BI publisher dont support so many MS Word properties.
    Thanks,

  • Data formatting and reading a CSV file without using Sqlloader

    I am reading a csv file to an Oracle table called sps_dataload. The table is structured based on the record type of the data at the beginning of
    each record in the csv file. But the first two lines of the file are not going to be loaded to the table due to the format.
    Question # 1:
    How can I skip reading the first two lines from my csv file?
    Question # 2:
    There are more fields in the csv file than there are number of columns in my table. I know I can add filler as an option, but then there are
    about 150 odd fields which are comma-separated in the file and my table has 8 columns to load from the file. So, do I really have to use filler
    for 140 times in my script or, there is a better way to do this?
    Question # 3:
    This is more of an extension of my question above. The csv file has fields with block quotes - I know this could be achieved in sql loader when we mention Occassionally enclosed by '"'.
    But can this be doable in the insert as created in the below code?
    I am trying to find the "wrap code" button in my post, but do not see it.

    Justin, thanks. I did happen to change my pl sql procedure using utl_file.get_file and modifying the instr function based on position of ',' in the file, but my procedure is getting really big and too complex to debug. So I got motivated to use external tables or sql loader as plan b.
    As I was reading more about creating an external table as an efficient way and thus believe I can perhaps build an extern table with my varying selection from the file. But I am still unclear if I can construct my external table by choosing different fields in a record based on a record identifier string value (which is the first field of any record). I guess I can, but I am looking for the construct as to how am I going to use the instr function for selecting the field from the file while creating the table.

I have highlighted italics in the code above(from LOAD WHEN....FIELDS....), the part I think I am going to use, but not sure of it's construct.

  • Inserting XML data into and XML template

    I have XML data structured according to a schema. I also have a
    template structured with the same schema, plus a schema for document formatting. I want to merge the XML data into the Template to produce an output file.
    I know I can write a program to use XPath or DOM, but I am sure a generic solution already exists for this. I did not have any luck with google.
    Suggestions?
    thanks

  • Date format and number format- need help

    Hi everyone,
    I'm working with JDeveloper10.1.2, struts and uix pages.
    I have 2 problems:
    1 - I have a field of type date in my uix page and the format is like this='24-Jun-2006', but I need to change this format to be '2006/06/24'.
    2 - I have an attribute of type number(salary) and when I drag and drop this attribute from the DataControl Pallete and run the project, in the uix page I see a number, for example: salary = '123456', but I should see salary = '123.456,00'.
    And when I write, for example '123.456,00', when I commit this value, I should see in my DataBase something like this '123456,00'.
    I alredy tried to change the attribute properties in the Entity Object but without success. :(
    Can anyone help me with this problems?
    Thanks,
    Atena

    nd when I write, for example '123.456,00', when I
    commit this value, I should see in my DataBase
    something like this '123456,00'.Sorry I replied before thinking about the problem. You will not see the value in the db as such, the db will show the values differently depending on the session settings.
    The values will only show up as such in the form. To see them such in the db do:
    alter session set nls_date_format='yyyy.mm.dd'
    for the date and
    alter session set nld_number_format='0.00'
    for the number

  • Dummy question on date format and locale

    Hi everybody,
    Sorry for asking such a stupid question. I've always thought that the format of the generated date
    System.out.println("Default Locale: " + Locale.getDefault());
    System.out.println("Default Locale Country: " + Locale.getDefault().getCountry());
    System.out.println("Default Locale Language: " + Locale.getDefault().getLanguage());
    SimpleDateFormat simpledateformat = new SimpleDateFormat("ddMMMyy");
    String s = simpledateformat.format(calendar.getTime());
    System.out.println("Generated date: " + s);On one machine I have the following output:
    en
    en
    01FEB08On a second machine I have
    en
    en
    01FEV08I don't understant why that difference. I thought only the locale and language could change the way dates are formatted.
    Can s/o help me and explain me what elements are used to format dates or where to search?
    Thx for your help
    Marc

    @Martin
    Thx for the tip.
    That's what I am already doing but I'd like to understand what creates the difference between my two instances.

  • Date Formatting and Localization

    Hello,
    If I get a DateFormat using one of the defined styles and a specific locale, then when I format a value, I will get a string that is composed of the date parts in an order appropriate to the locale, e.g for en-US with a short style, I will get M/d/yy, whereas for other locales I may get d/M/yy. The problem is that if I want to use a custom style, by utilizing SimpleDateFormat, the date parts will always appear in the exact order I specify them, without taking into account the locale. Handling this issue manually is an unreasonable task due to the number of existing locales. Is there a functionality in the core Java classes that helps format date values using customized styles according to a given locale?
    Thanks.

    Or look at DateFormatSymbols(Locale locale).
    The reality is that you can't simply expect to have your application run all locales anyways though. Thus it must be tested for each usage before deploying it. So provide a config value and require that during the deployment testing that the correct configuration value is determined.

  • How to change date format and time zone from the client.

    In order to change time zone, you need to go Administration-> Access Management (Step 1), and select your name on the right (Step 2).
    Then select Edit tab at the bottom of the screen, and change both Time Zone and Regional Setting.
