Date formatting in menubar in Mountain Lion

I cannot format the date.
Tried setting in using the Date&Time>OpenLanguage & Text>Dates>Customize
Whatever setting or customizations I make, it does not alter the format of the date in the menubar.
Currently it is
Thu 1 Nov
I would prefer
Thu Nov 1

You should be able to drag & drop the days and dates to that format (probably in Full) to any order you want?
If that doesn't work it could be SystemUIServer which is a background process that specifically controls the right hand side of the menu bar where those menu extras are.
Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key to choose "Library". Then go to the Preferences folder and find and delete com.apple.systemuiserver.plist. Then go to the By Host folder also inside your Preferences folder and delete com.apple.systemuiserver.plist (also any with numbers). Then log out and back in, or restart.

Looking to move data from OSX 9 to Mountain Lion using external hard drive?

Thanks.  I'd like to get rid of this OSX 9 after retrieving a few files.  If I wanted to erase it's hard drive before I do so, would powering off then on again and immediately start tapping the F10 button do the trick as it does with a PC?

  • HT204350 Incorrect link to "OS X: How to migrate data from another Mac using Mountain Lion and earlier"

Incorrect link to "OS X: How to migrate data from another Mac using Mountain Lion and earlier". Should be http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6025

I think the OP is saying OS X: How to migrate data from another Mac using Mountain Lion and earlier (which should be a link to HT4889) just links back to OS X: How to migrate data from another Mac using Mavericks (HT5872).
It does indeed do that, & HT4889 seems to be MIA.

  • Addressbook.data import from Tiger to Mountain Lion

    Hello.
I have a backup of an addressbook.data file and other Contact related files that I am trying to import back into Contacts. The original files are from OS Tiger and I am wanting to import them into Contacts on OS Mountain Lion.
I do not have a working copy of Tiger on my iMac any more so cannot export them in the correct way.
I need to try and find a way of converting/importing the addressbook.data or other file to get at the information I need.
Any help anyone can give is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Basically you need to find a DVD reader that will work, since the only legitimate way to install Snow Leopard is with its DVD.
That can be another Mac, with which you could use FireWire Disk Mode to install Snow Leopard on your MacBook.
You do not need to upgrade to Lion first. You may upgrade from Snow Leopard directly to Mountain Lion.

  • Date modified is suddenly incorrect, mountain lion.

If I delete .ds_store it will revise and update. Any ideas? Other folders are incorrect as well, it appears that .ds_store was updated (finder indexing or something?) and changed date modified of the entire foldrer even though I didn't open those folders. This may help, the folders are coming from a drive that had snow leopard installed, could that be the problem?

so, just got off the phone with support, apparently in mountain lion the date modified does not carry down recursively through sub folders which is super annoying. hopefull they'll consider fixing at some point

  • Will i loose all my time capsule data if i upgrade to mountain lion from snow leopard

i am thinking about upgrading from SL to Mountain Lion
is there anything major i should be concerned with?
will my time machine backups be availible?
    i mainly use Logic Pro

Ok, then it looks like you need to start "from scratch:"  Power it off for a couple of minutes, then back on, and follow the manual.
Be sure it powers-up and the yellow light comes on.
If you don't have the manual that came with the TC, it should be one of these:
Time Capsule 802.11n (1st Generation) - Setup Guide
Time Capsule 802.11n (2nd Generation) - Setup Guide
Time Capsule 802.11n (3rd Generation) - Setup Guide
Time Capsule 802.11n (4th Generation) - Setup Guide
I'm not an expert on that, plus it's late here, and I need to go to bed soon.  If you still have trouble with this, your best bet will be to start a new thread in the Time Capsule forum at: https://discussions.apple.com/community/wireless/time_capsule.  That's where the networking gurus hang out.

  • HTML format only for websites, mountain lion

I recently upgraded my girlfriends MacBook Pro 13 inch Early 2011 to mountain lion. Upon the update, everything works except the browsers and the app store. No thumbnails or icons of any sort can be displayed. Websites are displayed in HTML. And when i try to update from the app store, which also looks crazy, i have the attached error returned to me:

    Well,
Solution found. My apologies to Apple. The problem of failing httpd was due to the fact that I had changed the SSH default port from 22 to 443. This was not done in a brutal way, but as recommended in the relevant posts that can be easily googled (New .plist file, new service in /etc/services launchctl load etc).
The fact that SSH was listening to the 443 port caused apparently a conflict with Apple's server httpd implementation.
There is a router in between that can forward ports. This router was re-programmed to forward port 443 from the internet to port 22. After a few restarts the SSH and Websites seem to function flawlessly.
Just for info, this is our second router used mostly for testing and back office development. Our productive router is directly connected to the internet, running firewall etc.
My advice is the following: Apple servers work! Just install a router that does the correct port forwarding according to your needs and leave the server alone, as designed by Apple.
Thanks for viewing the issue so far.
    D.
P.S. The SSH port conflict with SSL was suspected from the beginning. It's because apache ctl -k start worked (in the wrong directory) that made things complex.

  • Format bpt needs conversion to mpeg-2 so it can be used in idvd, any suggestions ? Also, it has been stated that some Mac OX'S need a download to read bot format. I have Mountain Lion 8.5

I have downloaded "Photo Theater Slideshow Movie Maker" from Apple. The format is if bpt, this is not recognized by idvd. the program does alllow a DVD to be created, but only one (1) To use idvd, several movies can be put on a DVD. Therefore, I need to get this bpt format converted to mpeg-2.   Any suggestions ? I have "Prsim" & "iskysoft", neither of these converters recognize the bpt format.

Export your Photo Theater project to .mov, which is QuickTime.  The PhotoTheater documentation indicates it can export to multiple formats, including .mov.  Import the resulting .mov file into iDVD.
iDVD, Toast and similar DVD authoring tools are normally what encode video to MPEG-2, which is the codec used on playable DVDs.

  • Imac 27" 10.6.8 Internal HDD to boot on OSX Mountain Lion

I have a internal HDD which was on my IMac 27" with OS 10.6.8. The logic board has apparent passed on and I needed the data on the internal drive.
Is it possible to boot that drive / or see the data on a Macbook Pro - Mountain Lion?

Yes you will have to remove the drive and get an enclosure or dock for it so you can connect it to the other system.
You won't boot off of it but boot off your regular drive and mount this as an eternal drive. The will be readable (assuming it has not been damaged when the system died).

  • Error downloading Mountain Lion, impossible to restart [SOLVED]

I just wanted to drop an issue that I had.
I have a Mid 2012 MacBook Pro, that was covered by the free upgrade to Mountain Lion program. I received a correct coupon code, but while downloading, there was an internet problem. After, it was impossible to restart the download or erase any data.
The OS X Mountain Lion item in the App Store inside Purchased, was locked, with a black button and a red alert.
To fix the problem all I had to do is:
Log off from the app store
Delete every file in ~/Library/Saved Application State/com.apple.appstore.savedState/
Run App Store.app, and inside App Store
    Log in again
Purchase again Mountain Lion, it will say that it's free (it has been previously purchased).
After that it will run again.
    Hoping to be useful

Try brining your MAC up in safe mode, download Mountain Lion, then restart your computer and install.  Should work fine.

  • Best practice to use Time capsule for back-up of 3 different products (MBP 15 OSX lion, MBP 13 OSX lion and MBA 13 OSX mountain lion)?. Only the MBP15 is back-up regularly.

When I want to save data of the MBA13 on mountain lion (wireless) with time capsule, hois there any best practice to perform?
After that, assuming that data are back-up, can we easily differentiate data in time capsule belonging to MBP15/13 and MBA13?

Unfortunately, Apple left off the Ethernet port....the most important port in networking....on the MBA, so your first backup of the entire Mac will need to be done using wireless.
That may take a day or two unless your MBA has a Thunderbolt port on it in which case you could add a Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter and connect the MBA to the Time Capsule for the first backup using an Ethernet cable.  It will probably only take 3-4 hours or less doing it this way.
Once you have the first complete backup done, other subsequent backups can be done using wireless since they will ony take a few minutes, on average.
Both Macs will backup to the Time Capsule using Time Machine automatically. Backups will be kept completely separate, so one Mac will normally only be able to "see" its own backups.

How do I view the contents of my iPad in Mountain Lion?

DiskAid needn't cost anything depending on what you want to do - I've been using it for months without being hindered by using the free version.  You do need the up to date version for use on Mountain Lion though...
