Date Modified problem not fixed . . . maybe never?

Dunno if this has come up recently--I couldn't find it in a search. But the problem of a file, being modified and updated, not showing up as such in a folder unless clicked, is a massive one, and obviously has not been fixed with 4.5. I can modify a file, say an FCP movie, then save it, but it will still be down on the list date-wise that it was before I modified it. Only if I highlight it with a mouse click does it go to the top of the "Date Modified" column.
This is inexcusable. OS 9 was instantaneous. What is it about OS X that Apple can't get right in this incredibly basic Finder function?

Hello Ben
If you want to use BT and make connection between the notebook and your mobile phone you must not be any expert. I have done it several times and it works perfectly.
I can really not understand that your dealer was not able to help you. If you want to use the mobile phone as modem you can configure it on follow way:
1. activate Bluetooth using FN+F8 key combination
2. install all new hardware components if necessary (few of them)
3. start Bluetooth stack (BT Manager) using small icon near the time information using right mouse button > Bluetooth Settings
4. activate the Bluetooth on the mobile phone (discoverable)
5. choose Express mode > Next
6. Choose visible device listed in Bluetooth device list > Next
7. Choose pass key for identification (1234)
8. Enter the key into mobile phone. Paring will be success
9. Go to Next and configure the internet connection (provider number) > Finish
10. The new connection will be created in Bluetooth stack utility
11. You can start the dialing up with double click or click with right mouse button and choose Connect
In my case I use Motorola mobile phone and I am also able to send the pictures to the notebook.
Please make it again. It must works!
Good luck!

  • Is Bridge supposed to sort raw files by date modified?  Not on my systems.

I have just installed photoshop/bridge cs5 on two windows 7 systems, home premium 64 bit, one an i3 chip and the other an i7 chip.  I was formerly using cs3.
I see that Bridge is not sorting my raw files by date modified like it did before.  It sorts jpg files okay.  I noticed that the xmp files associated with the raw files, when I hover over them in Windows Explorer show the correct modified date but the thumbnail icon shows only creation date, which I assume is as it shou ld be.  Why doesn't Bridge CS5 sort raw files by date modified as it did in CS3?  CS3 must have referred to the xmp file modified date to use for sorting, I would think.
I should also mention that the metadata file does not show the correct date modified, but gives the same date as the creation date.  Also the thumbnails for raw images that have been modified correctly show the icon that indicates it was modified.
Also, I see that when you hover over a thumbnail in Bridge CS5 nothing is revealed about the file.  In CS3 Bridge hovering over a thumbnail showed several pieces of data about the file including anything in the file info.
Is this just how Bridge CS5 works or have I missed a setting somewhere in Bridge or Windows?

Sorry for the print in Portuguese. Ordering by date modified (or any other date-based scheme) has worked until yesterday. Today all files are market as "no date" ("sem data" text in the print), although the all the file metadata is fine.
    Any suggestions?

  • Date modified attribute not changing

    hie,
    the situation is this:
everytime I modify a file in netbeans or zend (a javabased php editor), the changes made to the file are written ok, but the "date modified" attribute of the file is not changed, thous, when I try to commit (cvs) the file, the cvs clients tells me that theres nothing to commit. I have to open the file with notepad, do something, and then save it, in order to get the date changed and then send it.
I post this here, because i believe its a config java thing, that could solve both IDE problems.
thanks in advance for any idea.

Apparently you are maintaining the file open; until closed, the date is not updated.

  • Date modified problem

Since I have been using Lion, folders and documents get "modified date" updated by just opening or moving them. This is highly annoying. Is there a way to avoid that and have date modified when document or folder is really modified? Thanks!

    Hi all
I am bumping this thread again because I can't believe that I am the only one experiencing this issue. At times it is costing me hours repeatedly copying files until eventually the date doesn't show as modified.
I thought I had cracked it earlier by changing the Sharing & Permissions settings, and applying to enclosed items the ability for Everyone, Me and Staff fo have Read & Write permissions - but that doesn't seemed to have changed much.
Copying in smaller batches helps sometimes, but then other times it makes no odds, and the Date Modified date shows as the original date for a few seconds, only to change to today's date. Driving me nuts because there is no pattern to it.
Files which I have copied and show their original modified date, when moved to a subfolder, then have their date changed to today!!! Copying other files into the folder results in files that were previously OK having their Date Modified changed!
Am I on the only one?

  • Were any reboot after sleep problems NOT fixed by the EFI firmware update?

The subject says it all. I wanted to get a read on whether this EFI update really did solve the reboot after sleep problem for all 2008 Mac Pros. If have an early '08 Pro that had the problem before the update and it didn't go away after the update (and it's not due to some other problem like kernel panics, etc.), then please post details in this thread. thanks!

We have 4 total systems (all had the issue, all slightly different configurations) and the reboot-on-wake issue has disappeared on all 4 of them.
Looks like a definitive fix to me.

  • Problem not fixed

I was very disappointed to discover when upgrading to Leopard that a very annoying problem with Safari has not been fixed. The problem is this: whenever I try to drop a bookmark into a folder the folder opens up automatically and has to be closed using the little triangle before any more actions can be continued. It gets worse: when the bookmark is dropped into the folder the show all bookmarks page pops up to the top of the page way beyond the folder I was putting the bookmark into so that I have to scroll down to find the open folder and close it. If I'm not careful when dragging a bookmark to the desired folder other folders open too and they have to be closed every one.
I can't believe that Apple would allow such a glaring problem to continue but it's true. I would like to be able to just drop a bookmark into a folder and have it automatically be on the bottom of the list than have the folder just spring open like that. If it is going to spring open, then I should be able to set a grace period where you have to hold down the mouse button for a half a second to get it to open like on other spring loaded folders. Then the glitch that causes the bookmarks page to page up to the top is, well, just icing on the cake. Can't they fix that?
Sorry for the rant. My question is, is there any 3rd party software that will help with this problem? Is there any way I can fix it, or will I just have to abandon Safari?
    thanx,
    Ken

If I drop a bookmark into a folder, the page will automatically shift to the top to reveal that Bookmark at the bottom of that particular folder's list. Unless you are seeing something different, I believe that's how the software behavior was designed.
This is not what happens to me. When I drop something in a folder the view instantly pops to the top of the Bookmarks page and I have to scroll down to get to the open folder and close it. Would it did behave as you describe, that wouldn't be so bad. They can't possibly have designed it to be that way. It's a bug. I have reported it. Ideally the folder wouldn't open at all--if you wanted the folder open you could hold down the mouse button just like on other folders and you could turn spring loading off if you wanted to.
Reminds me that I have to make the bug report again because I didn't describe exactly how to reproduce the bug. Here's how:
:::Click drag an item to a folder in the bookmarks window. The folder springs open, you drop the item in without going down the list in the folder. The view immediately pops to the top of the bookmarks page, far above where your open target folder is.:::
I can't say my problem is solved but your answers have been helpful. Thanx.

  • Satellite Pro L20 keyboard problems not fixed by BIOS update

    Hello,
When I type in MS Word or another application, some characters are not displayed. This problem is known.
I have followed the TOSHIBA's recommendation to update BIOS V1.30 for PSL25E. Unfortunatey, this doesn't help.
I would be gateful for any advise.
    Thank you,
    olbur

    Hi guys
In my opinion if the BIOS update procedure doesnt solve the keyboard issue so you should contact the Toshiba service for replacing this part.
But did you use the right BIOS version?
You should check you notebook serial number
    The issue was fixed with
    - Bios V1.20 or higher for PSL20*-*, PSL25*-* and PSL27*-*
    - Bios V1.70 or higher for PSL2X*-*, PSLY*-* and PSL2Z*-*
If it doesnt work the last way is the service point.

  • I am so frustrated! It may be a coincidence, but when I installed Mountain Lion, upon syncing,  1st Gen Apple Tv went into a boot loop, and apple will do nothing to help with it.  What can I do? If not fixed, will NEVER buy qp another product from them ag

Never done this before. My Apple TV was perfect until I installed Mountain Lion. Upon syncing my Apple tv, it mysteriously rebooted, asking me language and tv type. Then the Apple comes on, flashing light, and back to language. Apple said hey no longer support it, though it is not very old. Wasted $399. I had ips 180 g almost full of movies, pics, etc. that are now gone. What can I do?  Very unhappy with Apple, now.

You can buy Microsoft Office for Mac, it includes Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Or you can download a free copy of LibreOffice which contains substitutes (good ones) for the Microsoft Office programs.
Do not even think of using Boot Camp unless you have a complete and current TM backup or a clone to restore if it goes wrong. You will also need to buy Windows and Microsoft Office for it. And you MUST read the directions very carefully.

  • Pre-xorg7 font problems not fixed after update

    Hello all,
After several trouble free years my fonts have gone down the shitter.  No idea how or when this issue started, I think it must have been after a recent freetype upgrade.
Here are two screenies which show the problem:
    · before
    · after
Notice how font spacing is screwed in term and gvim and how window title has gone to shit.
    Here is my fonts/local.conf
    and xorg.conf
    Ideas and suggestions, please?

OK - I found this part about bitmap fonts on the wiki:
Something or someone disabled all my non-scalable (bitmap) fonts, I want them back
By default, fontconfig 2.3.2-4 and higher will disable the use of bitmap fonts. This setting is managed in /etc/fonts/conf.d/10-no-bitmaps.conf, or in higher versions, /etc/fonts/conf.d/10-bitmaps.conf. To enable bitmap fonts and keep them enabled after upgrades of fontconfig, place a symlink from yes-bitmaps.conf to 10-bitmaps.conf, overwriting the symlink to no-bitmaps.conf.
That's a recent change my update was on 19th Feb - that has fixed vim/gvim and terms, window title prob persists

  • RSS Problems not fixed with 10.5.2

I've upgraded to Mac OS 10.5.2 and I'm still having the same problems with RSS feeds as I did before in both Mail and Safari. I am unable to receive new RSS articles to Mail or Safari. Apple said that this issue was fixed with 10.5.2 but it wasn't for me. Please help.
    Message was edited by: slh06

After reading about the problem in the April issue of MacWorld, page 96 I think, I brought the computer over to the Apple store, showed them the article, and they ordered me a new graphics card (well, it was a little more difficult and time-consuming than that, but you get my drift) - a more recent version of the card.
Et voila!!! No more screen junk. Isn't that kewl?

  • Time Machine and Mail problems not fixed in 10.10.1

Time Machine and Mail seem completely broken in Yosemite. If anything it got worse in 10.10.1.
    1. If you see inboxes at all they are empty.
    2. Even if you don't press any buttons, Time Machine changes your account descriptions, order of accounts and in one case even disabled an account!
So after entering Time Machine from Mail, even you don't do anything, you have redo a bunch of settings afterwards.
Anybody know a solution for this?
I've tried talking to AppleCare about this (for a month now) but they never get back to me.
    doug

What do you see when you enter Time Machine from within mail?
Also, do you happen to have an external display? I have one and I think that causes extra issues.
Do you see a stack of past inboxes, and for each inboxes do you actually see emails listed?
How many email accounts do you have? And what type are they - Gmail, etc.?
It may be a corruption issue on my individual installation. Or it may be that we have different numbers and types of accounts. So it would be useful to compare.
I have 4 Gmail accounts, 2 "ordinary cPanel" IMAP accounts and 1 iCloud account. So 7 in all.
    Thanks,

  • Possible fix for Word2004 "Date Modified" issue

I'm not sure if anyone else is still dealing with this problem - we discussed it a year ago here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7610823
But just in case there's someone else out there with the problem - I think I've found a fix (requiring OSX Server 10.5, tested on OSX Server 10.5.6)
    The problem:
When you have a Word 2004 file (whatever.doc) stored on a server (10.4.0-10.5.6) then you have an annoying Date Modified issue. Whenever someone who is not the owner simply opens the file, the Date Modified date updates. When the owner of the file opens it, the date does not change. So by simply opening the document (and making no changes, and not re-saving it) you trigger an update of the Date Modified field.
More info can be found following the link above.
Well. I think I've found a work-around that's better then the current "Have everyone login as the same user" one.
In OSX Server, setup the permissions for the share with group as "read only" - so the POSIX permissions only give non-owners read-only access. (Everyone should also be RO or None)
Then you need to apply a Custom ACL. You want to give them Read & Write, but then edit the Write permissions to not allow Write Attributes and Write Extended Attributes.
    So the ACL is:
    [ ] Administration
    [Y] Read
    [-] Write
    --[ ] Write Attributes
    --[ ] Write Extended Attributes
    --[Y] Create Files (Write Data)
    --[Y] Create Folder (Append Data)
    --[Y] Delete
    --[Y] Delete Subfolders and Files
    [Y] Inheritance
Obviously this means your users cannot write attributes - so for photos and other files where meta-data is critical, this is not a great idea. But for the vast majority of shares, this is fine - they can still "read and write" all the files and folders, but the Date Modified problem does not arise.
I'd be interested to see if this works for anyone else. Please let me know
    Charles

Interesting and understood. I always tell people/clients that want to use dates either date created but definitely date modified to add that into the name of the file or call them revisions each time, ie:
    lawsuitJamesrev2
    or
    lawsuitJames_5_1209
Reason being is depending on the backup system or worse yet disaster recovery you might not see or be able to see modified dates. IF the file is labeled as shown above it makes it easier. Again each person is different but from experience this works best as well as sorting. Also law firms I worked with have a number system since they needed to follow regulations on how to secure content. Again just ideas...hope you find an answer and pass it on

  • Date modified is suddenly incorrect, mountain lion.

If I delete .ds_store it will revise and update. Any ideas? Other folders are incorrect as well, it appears that .ds_store was updated (finder indexing or something?) and changed date modified of the entire foldrer even though I didn't open those folders. This may help, the folders are coming from a drive that had snow leopard installed, could that be the problem?

so, just got off the phone with support, apparently in mountain lion the date modified does not carry down recursively through sub folders which is super annoying. hopefull they'll consider fixing at some point
