Date Number Suffixes

Hi
I'm not sure if this is a problem with Pages or Mac OS X date formatting in general.
I'm used to expressing dates in the format 1st March 2006 or 2nd March 2006 or 3rd March 2006 or 4th March 2006. The st, nd, rd or th suffixes are usually superscript i.e. in a smaller font that appears slightly above and to the right of the ordinal number. (I don't even know how to type superscipts into this post.)
1. Is there a way to make Pages automatically format dates in this way? In fact can you make MacOSX do it in general?
2. How do you type superscripts?
[Edit, I've just typed superscript into the help viewer and I know how to do that now. My first question remains as one can't seem to edit the date inserted by Insert> Date and Time...]

They're not dumb questions, although the superscript one you'll find in Format / Font / Baseline, which will also show you the shortcuts.
As to the date format question: simply, what you want is not provided for. I suggest you track your question for a while yet, to see if any of the heavyweight boffins can tell you a workaround, or whether there's a download item for it - but short of an applescript or automator action, which I personally find too troublesome to wrestle with, it won't be all that easy. Reason being, the date insert has to be automated to program the insertion you want differently for the various numerals. Its a programming issue at root. Neither can you edit the date format inserted from the options under Insert / Date and Time... Once inserted it's a single item; not editable text.
So if you get no answers (and I'll be looking myself - any that works would be brilliant!) - use the "Provide Pages Feedback" facility under the Pages main menu to request that Apple incorporate this feature in a future update. Emphasise that you write in UK English. The Yanks just aren't aware of these traditions. But for you they would be standard. It's a reasonable user request.
What you're really after is ordinals, and they should be on the system. There are in fact Apache resources available for it (try "ordinal" in Spotlight) so this can, in principle, be done - but it's hardly straightforward user access.

  • How to export file with original filename number suffix, but with more digits

    Is there a way to keep the original filename number suffix, but change the formatting of the number, adding leading zeros for instance?
    When I import photos from my camera I like to rename them, and give them sequential numbers, e.g. "2015-01 Hamburg 1.cr2", "2015-01 Hamburg 2.cr2", "2015-01 Hamburg 10.cr2", .. "2015-01 Hamburg 134.cr2", and so on.
    Normally when I export photos I like to keep the file names exacly as I imported them (except the extension) e.g. 2015-01 Hamburg 1.jpg, "2015-01 Hamburg 2.jpg", .. "2015-01 Hamburg 10.jpg", .. "2015-01 Hamburg 134.jpg".
    But sometimes I would like to export them with leading zeros, typically when adding photos to a web site or blog where there are sort mechanisms that only support simple sort algorithms based on file names, meaning the sort order of my photos with their original file names would become "2015-01 Hamburg 1.jpg, "2015-01 Hamburg 10.jpg", .. "2015-01 Hamburg 134.jpg", "2015-01 Hamburg 2.jpg".
    So I would like the file names to be "2015-01 Hamburg 001.jpg", "2015-01 Hamburg 002.jpg", "2015-01 Hamburg 010.jpg", "2015-01 Hamburg 134.jpg".
    By keeping the original file number suffix I can easily go back to the original file whenever I need to, and the sort order would work even with simple sorting.
    The export Filename Template Editor gives quite advanced support for numbering files when exporting, see attached screenshot. There's support for exporting files with custom file names, and adding sequence, total and image number with padding (up to 9999/####). But those add new numbers, they do not consider the original filename number suffix. If I use the "Image # (001)" for instance, my example above would export as "2015-01 Hamburg 001.jpg", "2015-01 Hamburg 002.jpg", "2015-01 Hamburg 003.jpg", "2015-01 Hamburg 004.jpg", if those were the four photos I wanted to export, making it hard for me to trace them back to the original photo.
    I have found no way of adding such padding on the original file number.
    Does anyone know if this is possible or have suggestions for a workaround?
    It shouldn't be too hard for Adobe to support this I'd imagine.

    I do not know if you can do what you explained above, but there is a workaround to this (and a way to avoid having to do it in the future):
    In the Library module, make sure your images are sorted by Capture Date (this will put them in the right order, even with suffixes like 1, 13, etc.)
    Select all images, and then Rename them, using a Custom text followed by a Sequence number. The Custom text in this case should be the original name (such as, 2015-01 Hamburg, as in your example). Make sure the Sequence number is formatted with enough zeroes to include all the numbers in your images.
    In the future, when you rename images during Import, make sure you select the Sequence number format that will include all the needed zeroes, so you don't have to go through this again.

  • Missing file number suffix metadata when exporting

    Hello All,
    I export files from Lightroom 2 (LR2) using custom filenames that include file number, i.e. "Original number suffix", metadata. This metadata is not being picked up by the export module and will therefore not be included in the exported filename. This happens with files that have been edited in Photoshop (CS3), but not with the original DNG files.
    So if I have a master file named "Davison-20080809-1234-Master.psd", I in Lightroom 1.x (LR1) I set up a custom filename scheme in the export dialogue box that will export the master as "Davison-20080809-1234-BW-Web.jpg", or similar. This has worked with no problems to date.
    In LR2, when I look at the Example field under File Naming in the Export dialogue, I see only "Davison-20080809-BW-Web.jpg"--the original number suffix is missing along with one of the hyphens around it. When I create a custom file naming scheme with only the "Original filename suffix" metadata in it, it shows "_.jpg" in the Example field.
    It looks like maybe two things are happening.
    In LR1, if a piece of metadata was missing, it would still export a filename with all the hyphens around the missing data, so I would get "Davison-20080809--BW-Web.jpg" if the number suffix were missing. Someone probably tweaked that in the new version of Lightroom so that the unsightly double hyphenation would not appear. So this doesn't look like it's related to the problem.
    The second thing that appears to be happening is that Lightroom 2 is either not exporting (in file metadata) or not tracking (in the LR catalogue) the number suffixes. I've looked for the number suffix in Photoshop's metadata and it's not stored in the metadata at all. When I copy a Photoshop file with a suffix that does export correctly in LR2, rename the file "Test-20080809.psd" and import it into LR2, Lightroom parses the date (YYYYMMDD) as the number suffix and "20080809" is what I get when I export that file. This indicates that LR1 and LR2 store the number suffix in the catalogue and for some reason LR2 is not preserving the number suffix in the catalogue metadata when a file is edited in Photoshop.
    So has anyone else run into this problem? Or is someone interested in reproducing it? It looks like a bug to me.

    I'm also running into this same problem. For what it's worth, when I import my RAW files (as DNGs), I rename them using a naming scheme which looks like the following:
    (2008-08-13) -019- (7108).dng
    This scheme is created with the following elements (separated by line-breaks):
    custom date formula
    import number
    original file suffix
    In Lightroom 1, I had no problem. Now, I'm wondering if the parenthesis after the end of the file suffix is what's causing Lightroom 2 to think that there is no suffix?

    That is a carrier assigned number in Cellular capable iPads and cannot be changed unless your Cell carrier does it.
    It you want to change the Cell number for messages, the Cell number is one that is associated with an iPhone using the same Apple ID as your Mini. You would need to change the number associated with the Apple ID for that to happen.
    What exactly do you want to accomplish?

    This happens due to buffering of the number range in question. You can go to SNRO transaction (object KREDITOR) and change the buffering options (deactivate them, actually). Please, consult your ABAP team before doing this. For more info, see note 62077.

    My cellular data number is displayed as "unknown". How do I correct this.

    @robdrage.  Thanks for your comment.  You are correct that in this user to user forum I can't expect Apple or my carrier to answer the question and I don't.   The comment was not directed at them (sorry that it sounded that way) but that I have yet to find a statement on either companies site regarding the number and my first contact with my carrier was not helpful.
    The entry is more about correcting some misinformation about "Hidden Data" and "Does not have a Cell Number" in this post.  The Cell Number is actually "burned" to SIM by some carriers (not all), because the cellular number on the card is not required for the handshake, therefore some don't do it or forget.  The SIM card can (iPhones do not) also carry information about what services you have, messages and phonebooks. Some people actually in an "unlocked" world switch phones by swapping the SIM.

  • Date number to a date

    Hi,
    I have a field that is type number but it holds a date in reality (the number of seconds since 1970, i think). How can I compare it with SYSDATE (like so):
    select event_uuid from nnm_event_detail where event_timestamp < SYSDATE – 35;
    DB Version is Oracle 8i
    Any help is greatly appreciated. I am struggling with this query for a long time. No where could I find any help.

  • Material number suffixing with ! for some material in material master

    Hi Friends,
      We have uploaded  material master data with BDC . but for some of materials contain ! sign at the end of the material number. Means , at the 18th charecter ! is appearing. but it does not appear in mm03 while displaying. and even while finding it from MARA if we put material number   without ! sign then we can possible to get that material. and it does not allow us to crate material with same material number withought ! sign.
    But if while creating material if we put material with ! at the 18th charecter it creates material with ! sign but while searchig from MARA if you dont put ! sign with material number we can not  get that material as output and if we create other material without ! sign it allows to create the material.
    Please can you tell me what is the reson why ! is getting added at the end of material number ... do any1 of you have faced the same kind of situation and found for what reason it is coming....

    This is due to config. In our case whenever we enter 8 digit number for Eg:
    12345678 material will be created as 1234.5678 a dot will appear after every 4 digits.
    But when we actually look at mara we wont find the dot (.) .
    We can do this by config by setting perfix and sufix to the material number. actually these characters will not be stored in DB.
    It will be shown in output when the function module CONV_EXIT_MATN1_OUTPUT runs.
    check config in OMSL transaction.
    In TMCNV table check field TEMPLATE it will have the template how the material number should be in our case its ____.____

    I am using oracle 11g. I am very new to dbms_crypto. I went through documentation but have following doubts:
    Is it mandatory to convert varchar2(32) to RAW to use dbms_crypto.encrypt?
    If I change varchar2(32) to RAW, Can I make it RAW(32) or does it needs to be bigger?
    Does the RAW size must be in multiple of 16?
    How can I encrypt data of datatype date and number using dbms_crypto?

If, for example, we encrypt using AES-256 with Cipher Block Chaining and PKCS#5 compliant padding (which happens to be the example in the DBMS_CRYPTO manual), the output RAW will always be a multiple of 16 and as large or larger than the input RAW.
    A VARCHAR2(32) will either allocate 32 characters of storage or 32 bytes of storage depending on your NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS parameter. If you're using the default, it will allocate 32 bytes. But 32 bytes in the database character set may require more than 32 bytes of storage once you convert it to a UTF-8 encoded RAW (which, technically, also isn't required but is a good practice) and, thus, the encrypted string might require more than 32 bytes of storage. Your database character set and the actual data you store/ want to be able to store will influence how likely it is that you'll need a larger RAW than your VARCHAR2.
    How can I encrypt data of datatype date and number using dbms_crypto?dbms_crypto only operates on RAW data. Just like you convert strings to RAW before encrypting them, you'd need to convert your dates and numbers to RAW. For numbers, you should be able to use UTL_RAW.CAST_FROM_NUMBER. I don't know of a method of casting dates to a RAW other than converting them to a known string representation and then encrypting that (and, of course, doing the reverse when you decrypt the string and convert it back to a date using that same format).

  • Master data number in different clients.

    Dear Friends,
    We are using BI7.00. For one of our PM user requirement, we have made a report which will fetch the data of the measuring document against each measuring point. Since i want to restrict the report only to 4 measuring points, i have created 4 specific measuring points and restricted it in the Bex query.
    Now my problem is with the number that is assigned to the measuring point in the R/3 side. In the development client of R/3 the number assigned will be for example 1,2,3,4 and in Quality client of R/3 the number will not be the same it will be for example 10,11,12,13 and the same in Production client of R/3 will be 41,42,43,44 for example.
    In the above condition, if i want the query to run in BI production, i will have to change the query with the restriction for 41,42,43,44 and if i want to execute the same report in Quality of BI then i will have to change the query with restriction on 10,11,12,13 and similarly in development.
    If the numbers are not changed then data pertaining to some other measuring point will be reported.
    This process requires often change to the query -> which i believe is not good designing.
    Can experts provide apt solution to adopt my requirement. I do not want to tamper with the query to change the numbers.
    Note:- The external numbering option in R/3 side is not available for measuring points, hence system assigns its own number based on defined number ranges.
    Experts help required.

    How would you decide your measuring point in the master data?
    I asked this question because even if the numbers are chaging very often, is there any way to decide which measuring points (records out of master data) you want to report? If yes, you can add one more attribute as a part of master data and populate its value say X and then restrict only that value in your report.
    You can populate this X while loading data and your logic you can defind in the transformation rule.

  • Changing plain text date number to the actual month

    Building an analysis using OBIEE version 11.1.1.6.8.
    We have a date table named "History-Period"."Fiscal Month" and it uses 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 as months.  1 should be October, 2 should be November...12 should be September.  I've tried a simple CASE WHEN "History-Period"."Fiscal Month" = 1 THEN 'October' but it does not work.
    I  believe the numbers are in a plain text format.  Do I need to cast this as a different data type?
    PS:  There is also an actual "History-Period"."Month" table I could use where it provides the actual month, but it does not place them in fiscal year order (or any logical order to be honest).

    If your data in History-Period is of type text, then try adding single quotes round the number in your case statement.  For example:
    CASE WHEN "History-Period"."Fiscal Month" = '1' THEN 'October'
    Or perhaps you could add a column to the History.Month table to give the order?

  • Levenberg-Marquardt Fit - Scaling the data, number of iterations, stop criterion

    Hi there,
    I am currently working on some extensive L-M-Fits envolving 8 and 11 coefficients unsing LabView 7.1. All fits are running without any error message (Took some time though ). It would be great, if you could answer my following questions:
    1. In the help-file under "levenberg Marquardt" it says: "Scale the X-data so that delta X is at least 1E-2."
    This sentence is quite ambiguous . Should it be larger or smaller 1E-2? In my opinion it should be smaller, let's say e.g. 1E-4, shouldn't it?
    The results of the fit vary, if I change the delta X! That's why I somehow doubt the my fit results so far.
    How should I scale it? I have 11000 measuring points and the corresponding Y-values are normalized and thus lie in between 0 and 1.
    2. Connected to the fit described above:
    Is there the possibility to display the number of iterations used for a certain fit?
    3. What ist the stop criterion for the L-M-VI? Normally it should be given by an accuracy goal or something comparable?
    Is there the possibility to change it somehow?
    As written above I don't believe in the fit-results as long as I am not sure of using the VI properly.

    @express VI: No I am using the normal "Levenberg-Marquardt.vi" found under "Analyze/Mathmetics/Curve Fittings"
    @delta X: see "help-file.jpg"-image attached. It shows the part of the help file containing the "delta X" part. X- and Y-values are used correctly in my question.
    I have checked the code of the L-M-Fit-VI and in the Sub-VI "Levenberg Marquardt P.D.VI"  I've found the constant "1E-8" followed by a "logarithm base to" and "power of 2", which is finally used as a numerical stepwidth for the derivatives.
    I understand the situation now as followed: my delta X should be >1E-2 (e.g.: 0.1 or 1) in order to be greater than the numerical step width (1E-8) with which the Algorithm is working in order to have the algorithm working properly. Then my function is changing in a larger scale than the one the LevMar-Fit is working with. This would prevent my partial derivatives of "going to hell"
    There is another "1E-8" in a case structure of the subVI "Lev Mar Prep.vi" which is probably the accuracy limitation of the complete fit-algorithm.
    I haven't wired a constant standard deviation array so far and I don't think that it would be nescessary, since my Y-values are in between 0 and 1 which should give the algorithm enough digits to work properly.
    Nevertheless, I had several fits running with deltaX=1 first followed by deltaX=0.01 and the results varied, what should I do now? Which are the correct ones?
    Unfortunately the last fit of my VI conatins coefficients which depend on each other, which makes the standard deviation values for the best fit parameters useless (they are MUCH larger than the original value of the best fit coefficient). Thus I cannot compare the "absolute errors" of the fit in order to compare whether they cover same values.
    The version of the VI attached is an older one, the later ones are more complicated, since they include more other calculations, which have no influence on the problem discussed here.
    Unfortunately running the programm with my settings takes quite a long time, which makes it difficult to quickly change some settings and than have it calculated again and again
