Date preferences problem - Photoshop CS2 and OS X 10.4.6

I am running Photoshop CS2 9.0.1 on two Mac G5s (Mac OS X 10.4.6) and Photoshop CS 8.0 on a Mac G4 (Mac OS X 10.4.6) but now have a problem with the correct display of dates in File Info on the pair of G5s running CS2 9.0.1.
However I configure the date display preferences in International in System Preferences (UK prefs - DD/MM/YYYY) File Info will now only display the date as 'short', i.e. 1/6/06, for example. Naturally this presents a major problem with all my pre-2000 dates. By contrast, with exactly identical System Preferences on the G4 with Photoshop CS, the dates display correctly, i.e. 01/06/2006 or 06/06/1944. One of the G5s also has Photoshop CS 8.0 and also exhibits the same problem.
Is this an OS X 10.4.6 update problem, as I believe, or a combination of flaws between Apple and Adobe? Is there a cure? With a vast number of images in a picture library it is essential to have accurate, pre-2000, dates embedded in the File Info metadata. Can anyone offer an answer, a solution or a workaround?

After much trial and error I eventually discovered a fix. When customizing the Date Format Preferences (UK) (in System Preferences/International) select 'Short' and then drag the day of the week from the list below as the first item in the displayed date; i.e. Thursday 08/06/2006
Then modify the DD, MM and YYYY by highlighting the numbers and selecting the full 2 or 4 number digit from the drop-down menus. This is something that seemed to be fine in 10.4.5 but has changed in 10.4.6!

I have Adobe Photoshop CS2 and it closes down every time I open it with the following error: "Photoshop Quit Unexpectedly". Is there anything I can do to troubleshoot this?

The first question is have you used this version on this computer with the operating system you have now. The issue might be (if you are on a Mac) that CS2 was a Power PC application and you have upgraded to a new computer with an Intel processor. CS2 will not work on an Intel processor with system (I think) OSX.6 or greater.
If you have used this release on this computer with the same OS, than try deleting the preferences by holding down the Comand/Control-Option-Shift keys when starting the application. You will get a message asking if you want to delete the preferences, say yes.
Let me know if any of these work.

  • Problem with CS2 and firefox 3.6x

i have a strange problem arising from a combination of photoshop cs2 and firefox 3.6x browser in XP sp3
when photoshop is minimised to the taskbar and then firefox is minimised, the focus of firefox seems to be passed to photoshop unexpectedly, turning its button dark blue and making it very difficult to maximise photoshop (repeated clicking and swapping of apps sometimes frees it)
has anyone else every experienced anything like this with 3.6?
i have installed 3.5.10 atm which works with no problem at all and holds its own focus when minimised.

None of those ideas worked. I used the Disk Utility and it indicated that all permissions were OK. I cleared the caches and cookies on Safari and FireFox, and even re-installed FireFox and deleted all of the old files associated with it. Both browsers brought up the Apple support website using the IP address, but neither browser would allow me to log into Apple support to follow this thread. I turned off the Firewall thinking it was the problem. I am running the PC and iMac through a router, then a dsl modem. Could any of those items be the problem?

  • I upgraded to lion when it first came out but today i tried to open my photoshop cs2 and its telling me the powerpc applications are no longer supported is there any fix out there for this

i upgraded to lion when it first came out but today i tried to open my photoshop cs2 and its telling me the powerpc applications are no longer supported is there any fix out there for this

Lion is Not compatible with PPC (Power PC) based software, such as your older version of PhotoShop.  Your choices are you can either upgrade to the newer version of PhotoShop, or you can backup your data and apps, erase your harddrive and reinstall Snow Leopard.
    Hope this helps

  • Using LR2 w/ Photoshop CS2 and Camera Raw 3.7

    I am using Photoshop CS2 and Camera Raw 3.7 on a Mac G4, OS X 10.4.11.
I am about to install my upgrade to Lightroom 2. Is this a bad idea?
I have read about some compatibility issues re Camera Raw, and I have also read about how to solve the issue of exporting the keywords.
Will this keyword issue fix work on my system?
What are the real-world practical implications of still having Camera Raw 3.7? I usually adjust images in Lightroom, then any further adjustment is done in Photoshop (not CR). So is the only downside going to be that if I revisit the image in Camera Raw, the adjustments will not show up? Or will it also not show up in Bridge?? And if it is only in CR, is it that the image does not have the adjustments; or does it show the adjusted image, but has just all the sliders zeroed out?
I am hot to install LR2, but I want to make sure that I am not going to open a can of worms. And yes, I could buy PS CS4 (which would get me CR 4.5), and I would like to, but I don't have a G5. And I cannot afford to buy a new desktop computer right now.
Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks.

    >so is the LR version of RAW as good as the one in CS3?
It's far better as it has local adjustments and such. Lightroom is more equivalent to the ACR in CS4. To make changes you make to images in ACR outside Lightroom show up in Lightroom, you need to sync the metadata. ACR does not write the changes to RAW images to the Lightroom database, but it writes it into xmp sidecars either right next to the RAW file or embedded into it. So Lightroom has no idea you did anything until you specifically ask it to check for updated metadata.
Note that trying to work with both bridge/ACR and Lightroom on the same set of data will inevitably make you lose data or edits at some point as you're dealing with a synchronization issue, so be careful.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS2 and Photoshop CS4 on the same system?

    Hi all,
I was wondering is it possible to have both Adobe Photoshop CS2 and CS4 on my computer at the same time.  I heard that this would cause errors, but if there is, is there a work around for it.  Thanks in advance.

Quite a few people keep an older version in case there is something not right for them in the newer version.
Just make sure they are installed in that order.
Be prepared to have your file associations changed.
What is you OS by the way?

I am using a Photoshop cs2, and I wonder if it is possible to keep the settings of the guidelines when closing an image, with the actual document ? It would be nice to have the guidelines locked down, I find it than when opening the same or another image, the guidelines are not locked, it is annoying to have to lock them down again. and it would actually be nice, to ba able to give specific directions when placing the guidelines. Thanks

Then why are the guides unlocked when I reopen a document that I saved with the guides locked ?
    Thanks.

  • Photoshop CS2 and Windows 7

I have Photoshop CS2 and recently acquired Windows 7.  I want to bring images in directly to Photoshop but the images go through Photo Gallery in Windows.  I can import them into PS, but i want them to come into PS directly.  Also I cannot include images with an email through Photoshop.  How can I change this?

Did you download and install the replacement CS2 installer Adobe made available for their old CS2 customers?
I want to bring images in directly to Photoshop but the images go through Photo Gallery in Windows.
This behavior is most likely happening when you connect you camera to your Windows system or Plug you Camera media card into your Window's card reader because the autoplay is set to open Windows Photo Gallery.  You need to change the default  but though I have CS2, CS6, CC an CC 2014 installed the only Adobe Autoplay options I see is Bridge CS6 and Bridge CC do not see Bridge or CS2
Also I cannot include images with an email through Photoshop.  How can I change this?
What email application are you using that can use applications like Photoshop.

I have tried downloading photoshop cs2 and cs4 on a new computer.  I have the disc available for cs2 and the serial number for cs4.  They are both registered in my name.  I need help doing a download.  I was able to get part way through cs4, it showed up in my downloads but never got as far in the process as to ask for serial numbers.  I tried with cs2 and I got an error message that some bit of information was incorrect.  I currently have both downloaded on two other lap tops I own.  One is operational and one is dead.  I cannot access the dead one to remove the program. Thank you in advance for any assistance.

For CS2 you will need to download a special new version
    CS2 Activation
You might find CS4 download here

I am reloading Photoshop CS2 and I can't get it activated. How is this to be done?

The activation servers are retired and so your old CS2 copy and serial number no longer work.
Adobe has non-activated Photoshop CS2 and a new serial number to go with it only for CS-CS2 owners.

  • Photoshop CS2 and "Invalid Serial Code" Problem

Well, I recently upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7.
Tonight I tried to install my Adobe Creative Suite CS2 (just the Reader and PS CS2)...
I got the error "The serial code is missing or invalid and Photoshop must exit."
    And it did.
So, I removed it and reinstalled it.
    Same error.
So, I tried the cleaner (that comes in the extract file) that somebody suggested on here.
I've tried various solutions from the knowledge base.
    Still no luck.
I'm grateful I've read that others are having problems with CS3 and CS4....
This will save me money... as I won't be purchasing Adobe products anytime soon.
I won't bother calling tech support. They'll tell me they no longer support CS2 and that they're sorry about that and there's nothing they can do.
    Adobe took my money once.
    It won't happen again.
    Shame on you, Adobe.

    Hi Hunt,
Thank you for the warm welcome.
I believe I've read on these forums (and I could be very wrong) that I heard others with more recent incarnations of Photoshop (eg. CS 4) have also had problems with Windows 7. Again, I could be very mistaken.
Trust me... I really do enjoy Photoshop and I WANT it to work... and perhaps I over-reacted... to think that such an "old" version would work on Windows 7. I guess after spending a few hundred dollars on a photo editing software just a few years ago, I had expectations that it would be useful for me for more than three years. (No sarcasm there... I really did hope that. )
It's good to see that Adobe has loyal customers such as yourself that would (by your own admission) "spend the entire day on hold"... I wish I had that type of time. I simply don't.
There are other photo-editing softwares out there and while I'll be disappointed to go to them... being a teacher, I just can't afford another two or three hundred dollars (and that's WITH the educators' discount) to plop down on Photoshop.
I appreciate your taking the time to respond to my post.
    Respectfully,
    Ted

  • Photoshop CS2 and windows issues! help!

Hi, I'm working with someone who is having issues with Adobe Photoshop CS2 among other Adobe problems.  The problem is that after Photoshop is loaded, the interface is very messed up.  You can't open a file because if you go to menu -> file nothing happens.  If you try to create something new, most of the buttons will be invisible in the option for sizes.  The program simply becomes unusable.  After a restart, the program will work properly for a short period of time and being to behave oddly again.  On loading Photoshop, windows gives an error beep but the program loads anyways and no error window comes up.  This happens on illustrator as well as indesign.  I have uninstalled everything and removed all shared files that adobe uses and reinstalled everything from scratch, the same problem happens.  This only started happening recently.
    OS is XP pro SP3.
I am about to wipe the computer and start from scratch but I would rather not have to do this if there is another solution!
    Please help!  Thank you!

No, it's a standard U.S. keyboard and the language is set to english.  I believe the software is up to date.
It doesn't freeze when you click on the menu, it just refuses to pop open a window when you try to open a file.  Also, many of the option boxes in some of the windows in photoshop are invisible.  This only happens after the computer has been on for a short while.  Right after a reboot, you can open photoshop fine... until it stops working.

  • Photoshop CS2 and Windows Vista 64 bit

I have just loaded Photoshop CS2 onto my new laptop which has Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit as its OS.
All working well except I notice that, when I made adjustments to a layer (for example, using curves to colour adjust,or even just brighten midtones),it takes a long time for any change to take place to the values of colour sample points which I may have applied to the background layer.
I usually place four colour sample points on my background image to monitor changes as I make adjustments.  When I used Photoshop CS2 on my previous laptop which had Windows XP as its OS,changes were instant.
I have the cache level set at 6 in Preferences with 70% available RAM set.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Ian

    A couple more ideas:
Make sure CS2 is fully updated. In Vista, turn the Aero interface on and off to see if it makes a difference.
Try the old standby of resetting preferences, as described in the FAQ.
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.ef4a07f/1
You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.
This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.
A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.

  • Photoshop CS2 and OSX version 10.4.11

All of a sudden, every time I try to open Photoshop CS2 it crashes. I reinstalled CS2 and the problem continues. I am running OS 10.4.11. Any suggestions?

    Hokay....
Having same or similar problems. After most of the usual fixes proved to no avail, What I was faced with was doing an "Archive and Install" back DOWN to a pretty basic installation of Mac OS 10.4.0. This peeled off most of the third party drivers and system add ons from Panther. Then adding up-to-date versions of ONLY the things I needed, scanner from epson, Printer from Canon, Wacom tablet, all new drivers for 10.4. DUMPED nortons utilities, dead in 10.4 anyway...
AND then re-installing a fresh version of PS CS3. Now behaving together.
Then one piece at a time.... brought back the OS updates...
    So far, so good.
May not be YOUR answer. But working for me at the moment.
