Date reads as December 31, 1969 on ipad.

Ipad date is 12/31/69. When I try to change it, the ipad freezes up and is inoperable for about 24 hours. During the freeze, the battery is drained. I can recharge the battery with no problem.

To answer your question, I am also having an ethernet port problem and thought the two issues separate and thus posted them separately on the Discussions. The back-up battery problem and ethernet problem may, after reading replies, seem to merge or be related, but as I know posts and replies need to be fitting to the topic, here is the URL to my specific issue and question (unanswered at the moment) about what is causing my ethernet port not to recognize a plugged in ethernet cable.

My PowerBook G4 has all of a sudden had a date problem. It changed to read "December 31, 1969." I received a message that, "Your computer's clock is set to a date before 2001. This may cause some applications to behave erratically."
I then restarted and the date changed to March, 21, 2001, with the following message:
"Your computer's clock is set to a date before March 24, 2001. This may cause some applications to behave erratically. Please use the Date & Time preference panel to set the clock manually. For more information, chose Mac Help from the Help menu."
I then went online, and set my date and time in the system preferences to update automatically and the date did get back to the correct date of today.
The fact that this happened concerns me and I would like to do everything to assure that I have a healthy computer. What happened, what is the problem and is there something that needs to be repaired or done to assure a happy running PB?

Unknown call December 31, 1969 at 6pm

I went to check a voicemail message I had received earlier today and instead of my normal voicemails, there were 11 brand new missed calls from "Unknown". When I tried to listen to the message, there was no message or time value. When I looked at the calls details, they were all dated December 31, 1969 at 6:00pm. I restarted the phone and the calls were gone and my normal messages were restored however, I am very curious now as to what may have caused this. Did anyone else encounter this problem or know the cause?
Any help would be appreciated!

I have heard this can happen with this OS but I had the same problem a couple weeks ago when my anti-virus told me it expired on December 31, 1969. So, not sure if this is the cause of YOUR problem, but it happens a lot all over the place.
In a nutshell, December 31,1969 is a common date printed by many computer programs when they have a certain type of bug. Date and time are generally computed from UNIX time, which started at 0 on January 1, 1970 GMT. It has been counting up once each second since then. When programmers mess up, they accidentally put the value '0' into a function that converts current UNIX into the familiar Date/Time format we are used to. In the US, which is 4 more more hours behind GMT, that fateful date is on December 31, 1969.

Most likely faulty battery. Make Genius Appointment and take iPhone to Apple, battery diagnostic test by Genius takes less than 5 minutes.

EMac - Date Resetting to December 1969

This just started last week. I generally boot up every evening and the date/time is set to December 31, 1969. I open up Date & Time and set it to the current date and save. The next evening it is right back to December 31, 1969.
Anyone have any thoughts? I don't have clue what to do about this>

Battery replacement info is onliine at eMac - Do-It-Yourself. The 1/2 AA 3.6v Lithium battery is a stock item at most electronics stores (e.g., Radio Shack) or can be ordered online.

CLose the mail app completely and reset your iPad. No data will be lost.
In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

That happens occasionally and is nothing to worry about. It happens if during the update for some reason it did not find the correct date so defaulted to December 31 1969.

this has happened 3 times (I think) to my iBook now -- I'll start it up, and it alerts me my date & time setting are set at a date before -this time said- before March 27, 2007. Then it says some programs may act erratically due to this.
When I go into Date & Time, the date, all 3 times, has been December 31, 1969.
(The hour is off, too, like I think this time it said something like 6:03pm when it was 8:43pm).
As far as I can tell nothing is affected, and after resetting the date, everything works fine.
The first time happened when I had the installed Tiger OS the iBook came with; the 2nd was soon after I upgraded to Leopard; the 3rd was maybe 30 minutes ago.
It doesn't seem to mess anything up, but I was kinda curious if anyone else has experienced this, or may know why it happens, or if I should be concerned at all?

I also googled the date just a minute ago, and saw the stuff about the epoch date & January 1, 1970-- then the time zone changes it back to Dec 31st...
So- if it's something like a dead battery on the logic board causing it - would that be something I could, or should get replaced?
The times it happened were very spread out.

Plug the iPad into iTunes and you can use file sharing to move it into an app that supports file sharing and that document format.

Or, use an online storage service (iCloud, dropbox, box, google drive, sugarsync, etc) and upload the file to that. Then on the iPad, from within the app you plan to use the file with, link to that service and download the file.
The app will again have to work with that file type, and support the particular service you used.

Delete the account on your phone. This will not delete any data on her phone or iPad, or data stored in iCloud.

I just wanted to leave a note that it's working now. I'm not sure if it was the latest iTunes update that got it working or that i decided to start a new library instead of using the one i had backed up on Windows 8 (it didn't occur to me to check using the old library when i re-installed iTunes). But if anyone is having this problem, it might be worth trying again with a new installation of iTunes to see if the latest update works for you, and if not, try using a fresh library instead of a backup (by fresh library i mean discard your old library completely and start a new library, not just restore as new iPhone, a whole new library).

I have a dummy hardware that have a jack socket and a simple protocol. I want to send/receive serial data from this hardware on my iPhone/iPad, but I don't know if this is possible, because is a very low level protocol. I also have bluetooth, but is not supported by apple, so I decided to investigate this option, with the jack plug. I called Apple support but they couln'd help me and they told me to ask here. There are devices, like credit card readers, heart rate monitors and such that can do this. I am no expert by any means, but those devices supposedly work as a Frequency Shift Keying modem, sending data at a pretty low baud rate to the software on the iOS device.
So it is doable, but my understanding it takes a combination of a hardware device to transmit the data via the headphone jack, and then a specific iOS app designed to capture and read that data.
Definitely non-trivial.

If you have been syncing your old iPad regularly with your computer you can sync the new iPad to the same computer and transfer your stuff easily that way.

The iBook does not have a backup (PRAM) battery. It only has the main battery and a small capacitor which maintains the settings long enough to do a battery swap. If the battery is dead, what you are seeing can happen.
If the battery is not a problem (or even if it is), you could try resetting the PMU and see if that helps.
