Date sort is broken in the Organizer
The date sort in the Organizer only seems to support the calendar date, not date and time.
If there is only photographs from 1 day in the organizer there is no way to sort the pictures earliest to oldest, because the date sort doesn't include time.
Does anyone know of a work around for this "oversight'?
Walter,
Normally, the Organizer sorts by both date and time, as the following screenshot shows:
http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1vTZOWOZI3YL32V793Nk5whXHD22zF0
Which view are you in? Do Show All followed by Display > Thumbnail View. Are the photos not sorted by date and time? Perhaps you could upload a screenshot to www.pixentral.com (free) to show what you're seeing. (Don't attach it to your reply using Attach Files, since that's currently broken.)

Any way to extract data from the "Organizer" database?
I asked a similar question in the Lightroom forum but I'm asking it here as well. I'm thinking of either getting Lightroom or Elements but my only concern is being able to access to all of the meta-data that I tag my photos with in the "Organizer". Most likely I'll spend hours organizing my photos and I want to be able to access this data from outside the organizer for read-only purposes.
I realize that from inside of orgainizer all of this is available to me but I want to be able to use other tools and apps (that I'll write myself when needed) to get access to my photo catalogs.
Does Adobe have any sort of API or library that 3rd party apps can use to access the data in Organizer? I searched the Adobe web-site but didn't find anything. Ideally I could run a SQL query against the database to get what I want. This idea intrigued me, so a did a Google search on "extract photo metadata", which resulted in some interesting links.
You might want to investigate some of these further.
One which looked quite interesting along the lines of the read/write of metadata can be found here:

Can i recover the data from a broken XD card?
Can i recover the data from a broken XD card? any software Power Data Recovery. but it failed
Accidentally deleted data from XD card, don't panic. I suggest an advance and professional XD card recovery software, you can use third-party software Kernel for Digital Media Recovery Tool. It can quickly restore all lost data from XD card. This software
also supports all kinds of multimedia files such as SD Card (Secure Digital), Multi Media Card (MMC), Compact Flash (CF), XD Card, Micro SD card, , Memory Stick. To more details kindly read this post : http://digitalmediarecovery.blogspot.com/2013/12/retrieve-lost-data-from-memory-card.html -
I'm moving an internal hard drive from an old computer to a new computer. (My new compute runs Windows 8.1) How do I transfer the catalog data to my new computer so the Organizer of Photoshop Elements 6 will find the data on the hard that has been moved to the new computer? Is this possible or do I have to use the procedure of copying the catalog along with the photos to a back up hard drive and then restore them on the new computer?
The 'normal' procedure is to do a PSE organizer backup (not a copy or a backup from external tools) to an external drive, then a restore to the new location.
The advantage is that you have a backup of both catalog and media files and you don't have all disconnected files, which would happen with external backup tools. Also, if you restore with a more recent elements version, the catalog will be automatically updated to the new format.
The drawback in your situation is that you'll have either to overwrite all your files or restore to a custom location, creating a duplicate photo library (which supposes you have enough free space).
It would be possible to simply use the organizer in the old PC to move the catalog to a new 'custom' folder just under your C: root drive. The catalog would be accessible once the drive will be installed in the new PC. Then you would have all files 'disconnected' due to the fact that all your media files are now on a drive with a different letter. Reconnecting a whole library is a hard job with PSE6, less so with PSE11/PSE12.
If the idea of fiddling with the sqlite database with external sqlite manager tools is ok for you, I can describe the process more in detail. You only copy your catalog folder (as suggested above) to another location. Instead of trying the 'reconnection' way, you install the sqlite utility on the new computer. When the old drive is installed in the new computer, you simply edit a given record in the catalog database, catalog.psedb, and start the organizer with your copied catalog by simply double clicking the 'catalog.psedb' file.
Even if the last solution is much, much quicker, I would still create a new PSE backup : you have never too much safety . -
Hi,
Question as in the topic: Is it possible to sort folders by date that is written in the folders name? eg. folders are named 26 May 2011 and so on
Thanks
KarolI sort mine 5.1.11, 5.2.11, etc. - that works (adding letters to the numerals does not work as well). Starting with the month will also work better because there are only 12 of them (rather than a repetition of days).

The organizer of Photoshop Elements 8 - Problem of sequence of dates
Bonjour,
I have a problem with the organizer of Photoshop Elements 8, especially with the sequence of the pictures in the catalog.
My understanding is that the sequence of the pictures depends of the Exifs dates.
Problem in my catalog: It takes generally the date taken, but sometimes the date digitized even if the date taken is available. I have used Exifer to check the dates but also PhotoMe and Exif Manager.
Thanks in advance for a solution. The problem with 2002-12-25_F1030011.jpg is that it contains an invalid date/time in the XMP:DateTimeOriginal field of its metadata:
Date/Time Original: 2002:12:25 08:29:00
The XMP metadata specification requires that a time zone be specified, e.g.
Date/Time Original: 2002:12:25 08:29:00+01:00
Evidently, when PSE doesn't find a valid XMP:DateTimeOriginal field, it then uses the EXIF:CreateDate field, "2008:04:10 14:59:08".
I believe that Microsoft Pro Photo Tools wrote the invalid value in XMP:DateTimeOriginal. It's shown as the last software to have modified the XMP section:
---- XMP ----
About : uuid:faf5bdd5-ba3d-11da-ad31-d33d75182f1b
Date/Time Original : 2002:12:25 08:29:00
Date/Time Modified : 2002:12:25 08:29:00
Software : Microsoft Pro Photo Tools
Software : Microsoft Pro Photo Tools
Creator Tool : Microsoft Pro Photo Tools
Creatortool : Microsoft Pro Photo Tools
I verified that my Pro Photo Tools incorrectly writes dates/times without a time zone.
You could fix this with the free Exiftool by doing:
exiftool -xmp:datetimeoriginal= 2002-12-25_F1030011.jpg
This deletes the XMP:DateTimeOriginal field, causing PSE to use the EXIF:DateTimeOriginal field, which is also present in the file. You could run exiftool on all your photos that might be affected via:
exiftool -xmp:datetimeoriginal= -r c:\users\you\pictures
Then select the corresponding thumbnails in the Organizer and do Edit > Update Thumbnail to cause PSE to re-read the metadata. Note that Exiftool will make copies before modifying files, adding _original to the name of the copies. -
How to change the date (metadata) of a video within the organizer ?
Hello,
From what I observe, when importing a video file produced by Premiere Elements in the Organizer (v12 or 13), the organizer gives it the current date. I can then change its date in the organizer.
But... the organizer sets the new date in its database, but does NOT save it in the file itself (I have double checked). The result is that if, for instance, I then ask the organizer to update the video's thumbnail, the updated date is lost and automatically comes back to the import date, which is really weird.
Question: is there any way to force the Organizer to update the date in the metadata of a video file ???
OlivierHi René, there is unfortunately no solution within Permiere Elements or the Organizer, and the recent 13.1 update didn't change anything. BTW I really wonder what that update did change, since I know a couple of other bugs that haven't been fixed, too. Well, actually, I should now know that Adobe never fixes bugs, they consider they are features. Anyway, I have found a turnaround to the problem. I have installed a small utility named "Attribute Changer" (www.petges.lu) that adds an option "Change file Properties" to the Windows Explorer. This utility allows me to change the creation and modification dates (you need to change both dates) of the videos BEFORE importing them into the Elements Organizer. And then everything works fine, forever. Olivier

D.VadivukkarasiCheck if you have proper authorization for that transaction type in authorization object CRM_ORD_OE (you must have at least create activity and * for different organizatinal element if you want to be able to use all) and if you have organizational profile assigned to transaction type.
Probably you don't have proper authorizations for that transaction type. -
This is Firefox 3.6.8 and Mac OS 10.5.8.
Right clicking on a bookmark does nothing. I don't know if that is a Firefox version issue or a mouse issue, but the mouse can right click on the Mac OS desktop and get the usual menus.
It is possible for me to delete bookmarks which still point to an active web page because there I can use the star to edit the bookmark. That is way too cumbersome a process for the long list I have. Some are old and no longer point to an active page. The star comes up empty in those cases anyway and I can do nothing about the bookmark.
Bottom line is that I just need a way to see the whole list and choose the ones to delete.
I thought they should all show up in the unsorted bookmarks folder but it is empty. That may be the crux of the problem.Update - I discovered that the entire list of bookmarks can be accessed in the Organize Bookmarks window by clicking on the icon for Bookmarks Menu.
This seem like odd interface behaviour to me.
All the other software I use follows the pattern that an icon with a triangle to the left, which you click on to expand the menu tree downwards, shows the entire contents of the category when you click on the triangle. In other words, you don't get a different response by clicking on the icon from what you get by clicking on the triangle.
It also seems odd to me that when an unsorted bookmarks folder is automatically provided that unsorted bookmarks would not be placed there by default.
Anyway, by getting the list of bookmarks displayed this way I was able to simply right-click on items in the list and delete them, as I thought I should be able to do. Problem solved. Organize Bookmarks interface found to be somewhat unintuitive. -
I would like to access the "notes" field in multiple files and write to it. Is this possible? If so, where is the "notes" field in METADATA information?
99jon a écrit:
OK that will be interesting Michel. As far as I know the notes do not show up in Lightroom but the IPTC fields do.
About Lightroom, see what John R Ellis said :
http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshop-elements-faq.htm#_Converting_to_Lightroom
So, unless there is a plugin available now, I don't think it will be easy to recover notes from Elements when updating catalogs.
I only wanted to dispell the idea that the 'notes' in Elements are only a field in the catalog database. They are automatically written to the files in a proprietary exif section.
In the organizer, the 'notes' show under the 'general' section on top of the properties panel.
In the editor, you have to open the last 'advanced' tab in the Information panel, section 'schema'.
With an exif editor like exif viewer in Firefox, it's hidden in a section called 'album : Notes'.
About the searchability, I have no problem to find items from significant words in the notes. -
