Date Sort Order in Column View?

10.4 could not do this.
Can 10.5?

I believe you have to go to Show View Options when you are in column view (click the Action (Gear) button). See at the bottom of this page:

You will see an item in the little window that pops up called "Arrange by".

  • Finder - changing sort order in column view

    Anyone know a way to change the sort order when using the COLUMN view in Finder? It's defaulting to alpha and I'd like to change it so when I'm viewing a particular folder the contents are displayed by Date Modified like I can when using the other views.

    there is no way to change the sort order in column-view. This was under discussion since the very first release of MacOS X but never made it into any one of the releases.

    Although the "30EA1 - SQL-Developer 3.0.02 Table Data Sort Order Bug" still exists in 30EA2, there is a new substantial mistake.
    How to see it:
    Open table1 (Preference "Automatically Freeze Object Viewer Windows" is set). Click data.
    Open table2. Click data.
    Go back to table1. Click Sort. => You see the columns of table2. The is no way to sort table1, before you close the table2 window (tab).

  • In Lion 10.7.5 is there a way to view files in alphabetical order in column view?

    In Lion 10.7.5 when viewing files/folders in column view, if I select arrange by name it does not sort the names alphabetically.  Is this a bug or is there a way to view files in alphabetical order in column view?

    I've been using Column View for years and have it set to None:
    It has always shown in alphabetical order automatically.

  • Default Sort Order for Library View

    It would be fantastic if there were a user defined preference for a default sort order in Library view. For example, some users may prefer to always view the images by File Name, or Rating, etc, without having to change the sort order for each individual folder they view via Lightroom.

    Thanks for your suggestion Allan, but it doesn't work.
    I'm specifically referring to the defaults that Aperture 3 adopts when you use the "File, Import, Folders as Projects with the projects and albums setting.
    What I'm finding is regardless of the setting in the Library preferences, the default sort order for the project is Date and Manual for the album.
    Yet if I create a project manually the default sort order is as per the Library prefs. Strange.

  • Change Label Sort Order (in icon view)

    How can I change the order that labels are sorted in?
    In list view, labels are sorted in alphabetical order, so you can change the order by changing the label names, but labels are always in the same order in icon view - and it's not a particularily logical order. It isn't alphabetical, and it isn't in order of the colours (grey - green - purple - blue - yellow - red - orange) and now in Mountain Lion (I just upgraded from Snow Leopard) I can't even keep them arranged in reverse order so the ugly grey is at the bottom.
    Is there any way to change the label sort order for icon view?

  • Predefined sort order of columns

    Hi,
    when my Discoverer users add columns to their tables they expect a certain sort order without having to press the 'sort button' or use the 'edit sheet dialog'.
    My only idea so far is to use a custom folder and ORDER BY in the SQL.
    Is there any better way to achieve a certain predefined sort order?

    While creating calculations and adding sorts on all of the columns will solve the immediate issue, every new worksheet will require the users to go through the same steps. It also sounds like your users actively create workbooks and sheets as needed, and these steps will have to be repeated.
    Something I thought of this morning may (or may not) work, and unfortunately I do not have time to test it today. But ... what if you created a view with an ORDER BY clause to sort the data as you wanted it sorted. In theory, the results should be returned ordered, without having to add any sorts at the Disco level. Since there is a fair amount of work in "retooling" a BA to use the views, it would be good to do a small proof of concept. Like I said, it might not work for a variety of reasons, and I am not sure what would happen if a user added a sort in Disco, or when two folders were joined.
    If it works, though, the sorting would be performed at the database level, with no additional sorting in Disco, and adding and removing columns from a report would have no impact on the sort.
    Then again, it might not work at all.

  • How to change sorting behavior in column view in Lion Finder?

    I love the ability to sort in column view in OS X 10.7. However, when I switch to column view and let sort by label, the Finder displays a strange behavior: The files are grouped by label, but in the order of lee to more. It does not seem possible to display according to the label order set in the Finder prefs.
    This is somewhat irritating. Is there a way to change this can make it consistent to the label order?
    The label order in the Finder was set to "Prio A", then "Prio B" and so forth.

    If I set it to "Arrange by", I get them sorted by file name, irrespective of the color.
    If I change that in the View Options, I get them sorted according to label, but not in the label order of the Finder prefs.

  • Unexpected Sort Order in Column

    Hi,
    I would like to put at the end of my view, documents with titles beginning with a special character like ~ or { but it goes always at the top of the view. I was expecting that  ~ or { comes after the letters and numbers.
    Do you know why or can you give to me such a character.

  • Sort Order in Column Browser iTunes 10

    Several versions back, the sort order was numbers first and then letters. In other words, sorted in ascii sort order. For some reason, iTunes decided to change this. Will you please put an option in iTunes to change it to ascii sort order. Thank you so much.

    First give the list a "kick" by sorting by some other fields, closing and reopening iTunes, and then sorting again by Artist.
    Also look at the Sorting tab and make sure the tracks do not have data that could be interfering with the Sort Artist, namely Sort Album Artist.
    If neither of those helps, you have probably discovered a bug in 9.1, which you can report here:

  • PCUI - Sort order in columns

    Hi,
    I am trying to get a list in PCUI to be sorted by date, but descending. Right now I can check the "sorted" property in the field group, but thant only allows me to have the list sorted ascending by this field on load.
    Any idea on how to reverse this?

    thanks for the answer. I had already figured you could re-sort the data by clicking on the column headers, but I was actually looking for a solution to have the data sorted descending by date by default, without user action.
    One would think that in the list of the last actions in a lead this would be a desired feature...

  • How do I change the sort order of files viewed in Save As and keep the new sort order permanent?

    When I find a graphic I want to save, I choose Save Image As. I navigate to an existing folder but the items shown are not arranged by name. I right click on the Save As window and choose Arrange By Name. The sort works and I save my item. Later when I go back to the same folder the items are not arranged by name. I want the "arrange by name" option to be permanent.

    The same as with a file browser. The bar at the top of the window;
    name, size, date''' . . . . . . .''' click what you want.

    Is there a way to reset the order in which the columns
    (fields) appear in the database dialog on the panel? When I attach
    to MySQL or Oracle, all the fields come up in alphabetical order
    rather than table order. This is very unproductive when working
    with dynamic pages and needing to have the fields in the exact
    table order.

    I dunno for sure, but I've seen this question asked a few
    times and the answer has always been no - you're stuck with it that
    way. I would send an enhancement request to Adobe for this.

  • Changing sort order changes column width

    I turned on column sorting (Report Attributes -> Sort checkbox) for a particular column. Now when I sort descending on that column, it seems to disable word-wrap and the width of the column increases dramatically.
    Does anyone know why this happens or how to prevent it?

    The width of the column would be the width of the widest bit of text within the column.
    You can fix the width of a column by entering the following into the HTML Expression for the column definition:
    &lt;table&gt;&lt;col style="width:100px;"&gt;&lt;tr&gt;&lt;td&gt;#COLUMN_NAME#&lt;/td&gt;&lt;/tr&gt;&lt;/table&gt;

  • Changing sort order in Finder to display folder first

    In almost every other release of OS X there was a tweak to edit the frameworks so that you could have finder, when sorting by "Kind/Type"you could display folders first. Well of course they broke that in Leopard.
    Has anyone discovered a way to reinstate this nice little feature so that folders don't appear at the bottom of the list view but at the TOP like PathFinder?
    For those that are curious here WAS the "tweak" (go to System: Library: Frameworks: ApplicationServices.framework: Versions: A: Frameworks: LaunchServices.framework: Versions: A: Resources. Whew. Within that folder, you’ll see the English.lproj folder. Highlight it, and then select File: Get Info. In the Ownership & Permissions area, click on the Details triangle, click on the lock icon, and then click on the Owner pop-up menu and set it to your user name (enter your password if asked). Leave this window open; you’ll be changing it back in just a minute.
    Inside the English.lproj folder is a file named Localized.strings. Drag it onto TextEdit. Find the line that reads "Folder" = "Folder"; and insert a space before the F in the second Folder.)
