Dates and times of clips imported from miniDVD

I have a Sony camcorder DCR DVD405, and I just tried importing some clips from one of the finalized miniDVD's I recorded on it.
I have iMovie '09. I noticed that the clips get imported just fine, but the date/time stamp attached to these imported clips is not the same as the date/time stamp it shows when I open it in the mac DVD player or when I see the clips on my camcorder. The date/time stamps match exactly between the DVD player and the camcorder, but for whatever reason iMovie import is unable to get the same date/time.
I imported 3 clips and the three are simply 2-3 seconds apart instead of being 1-2 days apart.
Anyone know why mac DVD player can detect the date but iMovie (or the import utility behind iMovie) cannot detect the same?

At the end of the day, one can always adjust the Date/Time after the import by:

just my 2 cents.
Yes, I can do that, but I have 3 years of videos on miniDVD that I have imported and in order for me to adjust the date and time on each clip, it would take me forever.
There's got to be something that can be done either with perhaps some unpublished config settings for importing, or maybe some workaround to get iMovie to "read" the date/time on the DVD.
Does anyone else have this experience (and then have you found a workaround for it)?

  • Add Date and Time Stamp to video from AVCHD folder

New to this software and forum, so I apologize if this has been asked and answered. I am trying to insert the date and time metadata from the AVCHD folder using the .mts clips. Curently I am using VaTS to stamp the video then render the clips through Power Director. I would appreciate any help on this topic. Thank you for your time

BenB, thanks for responding to both of my posts. The footage was shot using a Sony HDR-XR500 AKA consumer video camera. Date and time is not burned into the image when captured digitally. The only way to do it would be to run the video through a video capture device that basically just records what the video outputs. This solution really ***** so i'm looking for somthing more effective.

  • Manipulating imports or photos events dates and times

It's a simple question and obviously related to the subject, but I'm trying to find out if it is possible to manipulate imports of images from an I device, we have an Apple Mac that has images on spreading over 3years, obviously with the event dates and times logged, but between each of the photos there are thousands of other images, therefore I would like to know if it is possible to slip images into iPhoto between these thousands of images and alter the date and time of the import or image
plus is there any way I can bring import logs up within iPhoto?

iPhoto has two ways to change the date of photos.
From the Photos menu select "Adjust Date and time". That will let you shift the dates of all selected photos by a fixed amount.
Or use "Photos > Batch Change". This way you can set the date of photos to a fixed date and time, with a optional increment between the photos. This is very useful for scans, where no capture date has been recorded.
To change the dates of events, change the date of the photos inside, or split the events, if you want to insert a different event in between. You can split an event by sorting the photos according to date and selecting a photo in the event. Then use the command "Events > Split event".

  • Time Shift During Import from Canon  Vixia HF S21

I imported video from my Canon Vixia HF S21. All time stamps indicated in iMovie '09 are 7 hours early. That is, video shot at 10:57 AM (in the real world) is shown by iMovie '09 (following import) as having been shot at 3:57 AM.
    Here's the "weird" part:
    1) Time and date settings on the camera are accurate.
    2) Time zone (Pacific) and daylight savings (Daylight, not Standard) settings on camera are also accurate.
    3) Time and date settings on my Mac Pro are accurate.
    4) Time zone (Pacific) and daylight savings (Daylight, not Standard) settings on my Mac Pro are also accurate.
Bug right? I figured out a workaround (Choose "Adjust Clip Date and Time..." from the File menu in iMovie), but it's a pain to do this on a large number of clips.
Is there a better solution/a real fix to this?

As you can see, the camera is showing up as a drive in the devices field.  Any ideas why it would do that instead of showing up in cameras?

  • How can I copy the date and time of a received email in Mountain Lion?

I recently installed the new Mountain Lion, however I am having a serious issue with the mail application. I use the mail application to download all of my emails and then I copy each one in to a Filemaker Database. I used to be able to copy the headers (from, to, subject, date, time) but now with the new mail in Mountain Lion it will not let me copy the date and time of the email. This is the most important part for me as I need to be able to track when the email was received once I have pasted it in to the Filemaker program. Anyone know if there us an option so that the date and time can be copied from the email?

I suppose you could copy it from the Raw Source. View>Message>Raw Source

  • Date and time keeps going missing!

Hi everybody, my date and time keeps going missing from the top bar every time I turn on my mac - sometimes other things go missing, like the airport status.
It used to happen just once a fortnight but after I installed the latest security update, it seems to be happening every time. Does anybody have a reason/fix? Would be much appreciated. Thankyou!

Hi appleoclock, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Not sure this works since that Qursical update, but the cure for that used to be...
    Apple Menu Bar Icons Gone
You've probably got a couple of corrupt preference files.
    In "/Users/<yourname>/Library/Preferences", delete com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
In "/Users/<yourname>/Library/Preferences/ByHost", delete com.apple.systemuiserver.xxx.plist where 'xxx' is a 12 digit (hexadecimal) numeric string.
This will reset your Menu Bar to the default, you'll need to go through System Preferences to reset the ones you need. (If they are already checked, uncheck them first and then recheck them).

  • Restriction in event reported date and time

    Dear All,
We have a requirement where we want to keep check on all the reported events such that none of the events are reported with future date and time.
We have some 25 reporting events and we have an option to keep the check in Preprocessing  FM but then i have to add the customizing of each of the reported events.
Do we have any possibility to keep a validation via customizing on Actual Reported Date and time event to be within current date and time i.e. no future event is possible without using preprocessing functionality.
    Thanks,
    Shubh.

    Dear Steffen,
Thanks for your reply but what i meant to ask is as below :
For an event which I am reporting , I have actual date and time as a field. In this field user  can enter any date and time and this will be treated as reported date and time for that event.
What I need is the restriction that none of the reported date and time is in future from the time when user is actually reporting the event. I am not considering planned date and time as the criteria for restriction.
    Thanks,
    Shubh.

  • LR2 File naming on import problem, date and time not from photo

    Hi all,
I think I've run into a bug or inconsistency regarding the file naming in LR2. All my photos are named after the template YYYYMMDD-HHMMSS-XXXX.dng, where XXXX is the original file ID number and the rest is the capture date and time. This has worked excellently in 1.1 through 1.4.1.
In LR2 this template, on import, doesn't use the capture time from the photo for naming but rather the _current_ time when the import happens. In the template editor you don't get to choose what time to apply, as the fields are simply called "Minute", "Second", etc.
If I, however, use the function Library > Rename photos... on the new batch of photos after import, and apply the exact same template, they are correctly renamed to match their capture date.
This is with LR 2.0 on Mac OS X 10.5.4 on PowerPC. Anyone else see the same thing?

    This is a reported bug.

  • How do I import photos from a memory card that didn't have the date and time set yet?

    Aloha,
So I got a new 5dmark 3 and I was shooting a wedding and didn't set the date and time before I started shooting. When I uploaded the images to Lightroom they uploaded all over the place and not in order. Is there a way to upload to lightroom and keep them in order?
    THanks so much,

You can change the sort order to filename. That's what I prefer to use, and it keeps my images in shooting order.

  • DVD camcorder (VIDEO_TS) - preserve clip date and time

I had asked this question on the forums a long time ago but iMovie did not seem to be supporting it reliably at the time. But since some time has passed, I wanted to check if iMovie '09 can import clips from a mini DVD (those used in camcorders to capture video directly on to DVD media) AND preserve the clip's date and time.
What I see is that the first clip gets some date and time related to the event's date and time (perhaps the start time of the first clip?) but all the other clips which are imported, get timestamps of 1 second after that first clip's timestamp.
These are all my home videos and in order to keep each clip short, I have had the habit of pausing after about a minute or two, resulting in MANY clips over MANY DVD's, so manually updating date and time is absolutely the last resort.
The DVD player can see the clip date and time correctly, and so could the camcorder (I have since sold the darn thing!) so I know that information exists somewhere in the DVD, but it seems like iMovie is unable to "see" it.
Any help would be appreciated, including programmability hints.

Thank you for your post.  I figured out why iMovie was assigning today's date to everything that I imported.  It turns out that many of my video files did not have a real "created" date--some had no date at all and some had Wednesday, December, 1967 or 9 (I think).  iMovie defaulted today's date in both of these situations.  I took your advice and ot A Better Finder Attribute and easily converted all of the files using the option to copy the "modified date" into the "created date" attribute.  Now everything imports correctly into iMovie.

  • How can i change date and time after importing a file

    hello
i'm importing AVI files first in iMovie because Final doesn't support (other question i put in) but when i see the scenes form 1993 they have the date 2004.
i believe 2004 is the date i put them on the computer.
Now i looked in the help files Final Cut Pro but cant find anything to adjust the date and time.
it works well in iMovie using the help files:
Right-click the clip you wish to edit and click Adjust Clip Date and Time from the menu that appears. Or click on Archive and than adjust date and time
But as i said i cant import the files in FCP have to import them to  iMovie files adjust the date and than import to Final Cut Pro but than de changes i made to the date and time  are gone and in FCP 2004 is again the date of the file!!!
Question how can i Change in Final Cut Pro the date and time in a same way as iMovie does?
    Jemajoro

OK, I think I understand what you are saying but it still does not look like it is doing it as you describe.
    Here is another screen shot.
Note that all clips in "2007 August" event have the date of Aug x, 2007.
Yet, the event "2007 August" still shows up under the 2012 "folder" (is that the right terminology?).
The newest clip in this event is Aug 31, 2007 so shouldn't it be categorized as 2007 and not 2012?
I think you know this but I am using the following feature:
Go to the sprocket icon under the events.
Select "Group events by date" and then by "group events by year and month"
Thanks again for all the help

  • Lost clips after adjusting date and time??

I just updated to iMovie 10.0.3 and adjusted a buch of events in iMovie. All of them were incorrectly placed in wrong years when viewing in "by date" format. After adjusting the date and time with the event highlighted, I come to see either all or some (a clip of two) of the event is lost. The good old "missing file" is what I get in the playback window.
I want to go on an anti-iMovie rant as this version has caused me NOTHING but headaches sence I installed it last year but it's MY fault for not having a spare iMovie 9.0 laying around so I cannot revert.
Is there any solution here besides wiping my iMovie library clean and restoring from TM?
    Thanks.
EDIT, I just looked in each event in the file system and the original media is not even there anymore but the library size hasnt changed. Wow. I don't get this at all.

There seems to be a serious bug here that has been introduced with iMovie 10.0.3, and reported by several posters.   I would recommend you report it using Apple feedback at: http://www.apple.com/feedback/
There is probably a particular infrequent set of conditions that have to exist for a clip to be deleted after using the adjust time and date function, but I've seen no posts yet that have clarified this.  Any further details you have would be worth reporting - for example did you change the date/time to earlier or later?  If only some date/time changed clips have disappeared, do they have anything in common, not shared by the clips which havn't disappeared?
You could restore your library from Time machine or, if there are not many lost clips it may be simpler and quicker s to re-import (or drag and drop) the clips from a backup and correct affected projects.  (Maybe you can change their date and time before importing them).
As for the library size were the clips big enough to make a visible difference to the library total?
Have you searched for the missing clips by name?
    Geoff.

  • How can I preserve the date and time of photos when moving them from iPhone to iPhoto and then to other folders on my computer?

In the past I’ve had no problem moving photos from my iPhone 4 into various folders on my computer while retaining their original date and time. I would import into iPhoto, then drag the photos from iPhoto into other folders via the Finder or Adobe Bridge (which is my principal image organizer). The original date and time of the photo would always travel with the jpeg into iPhoto and then into other folders. However, sometime during a recent session transferring photos in this way, the dates of the photos started to change at the point when I copied them out of iPhoto. Within iPhoto itself, the various original dates of the photos are retained. But in Finder and Bridge, copies of those same photos all carry the same (worthless) date: the date and time that they were imported from my iPhone. I can’t figure out what would have changed on my Mac to make it start re-dating my photos. I was happily dragging and dropping photos, and suddently I started to lose the original dates. Did I inadvertently change some settings? (I am running OS 10.6.8 and using iPhoto 8.)

(I use iPhoto only to import from my iPhone; I organize all my images, including thousands of RAW files, in folders on a big external drive.)
Why are you using iPhoto at all? use image capture or drag and drop the photos
The problem is that the files I am copying are getting stripped of the EXIF metadata
eliminating iPhoto from your work flow will eliminate one oppertunity to have this happen  For photos in iPhoto it is best to export them rather than drag an drop them - this assures your EXIF and IPTC data is correct and uptodate
Why would I be able, over many years, to retain EXIF metadata in photos imported from an iPhone--then one day find that the same workflow strips such photos of EXIF data?
Because exporting is the supported way to "export" photos - I never drag and drop photos out of iPhoto and I never use thrid party programs on the photos in the iPhoto library - try exporting as suggested above and see if that is the solution

  • When I try to adjust the date and time of an event by selecting Photos from iPhoto, the year I enter is altered.

I have images in iPhoto from an older digital camera which did not record the date and time.  In iPhoto, with an event selected, I have tried to adjust the date and time by choosing Photo.  When I adjust the date and check Modify original files, it makes the date much earlier--in centuries.  I now have an event from August 2003 (the date I entered) which reads June 2, 1251 under the event!  When I attempt to correct it, it goes back further in time.  What am I doing wrong?
