Dates of photos no longer imported

I have been using iPhoto for the past four years. I have iPhoto 7.1.3, I am still on Tiger, but will probably go to Leopard this summer. I am using a Nikon Coolpix 3100 - not a very new camera, but since it continues to work well...
Until last year, when I imported pictures, iPhoto included the date and time of each picture. No longer now. For the past few months, the only date which I get is the date and time of import - not very useful.
I have been wondering if the problem is with iPhoto or with my Coolpix 3100. I do not remember changing anything there, but maybe I did it without noticing.
Anyway, I spent some time attempting to find a solution, but to no avail. If anybody by chance knows how to solve that, it would be much appreciated!

Export a couple of the photos to the desktop and use EXIF Viewerr to see what the Image Generated date is. Another application you can use is PhotoInfo. It's more for changing the EXIF Capture Date but will display what that date is.
How are you importing the photos? Directly from the camera? If so delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and import some test shots to see if that will help.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Raw photos no longer importing into iphoto

New sony A7II and iphoto will not recognise the raw files?

You say "no longer importing" - What has changed since they did import? What version of iPhoto and of the OS do you have?
Here is the list of currently supported RAW - It looks lie you camera is not yet supported
OS X Yosemite: Supported digital camera RAW formats - Apple Support
No one know when or if Apple will update support for any camera - you can send them feedback  - iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback
Other than that you will need to use there RAW conversion while you wait for Apple

  • Changing date (and sequence) of events by changing dates of photos no longer seems to work. Any idea what to do?

I am scanning in old slides and negatives (from the 1960s and 70s), and I want to get the resulting "events" in sequence from when the photos were taken, rather than when they were scanned. So I have been changing the dates of the photos, and previously this resulted in the associated event moving to the proper sequence. This definitely worked a month or so ago, both with prints scanned in on a flat-bed scanner, and also with slides and negatives scanned with a Veho scanner. That was faulty, however, and so it has been replaced with a Plustek 7500i scanner, using SilverFast scanning software, and importing the resulting images into iPhoto. I have recently tried to change the dates of the resulting events, and it doesn't seem to work as it used to. There has been an update to iPhoto 9.1.3 since my earlier success.
Take for example one event, CS73A. Hovering over the event in the "All events" display gives dates of 1 Apr 2011 to 2 Apr 2011; these are the dates the slides were scanned in. If I open the event and choose the Info tab, it gives the event date as 02/03/1973 (which is the approximate date that I changed it to). I had done a batch change on the event this time, so the date and time on the first slide is 2 March 1973 09:30:48. Each successive slide is 1 minute later, and the last is 2 March 1973 10:08:48 (38 slides). I asked for the dates in the files to be changed as well.
I don't know what I'm doing that's different from before. The only things I can think of are (a) something has changed in the iPhoto update, or (b) the SilverFast software stores the scanning date in some part of the EXIF that iPhoto can read but not change. I don't have tools to examine the EXIF unfortunately.
    What to do?

Chris, I have run into the same problem.
    Try this:
Open an event with more than one photo in it.
Adjust the date of one or more photos. The event date does not update.
Delete any one photo. The event date now updates to match the above date change.
Undo the delete photo. The event date stays matching.
Change the date of any photo again. The event date updates now every time.
If you close the event and reopen it, you have to start over with the delete one photo thing.
I don't understand it but it works here.
I also have had the problem of events not sorting themselves in order of the dates when VIEW, SORT, BY DATE is selected. This seems to affect only the events were photo date changes had been made. Using the delete thing seems to keep the events in order.
Another funny thing: When I put photos into iMovie the times in iMovie show as 7 hours off the photo time.
I think Apple owes us an update to iLife!

  • I can no longer import any of my photos

Background: I have LR 3 Student edition.  I have an iMac running OS 10.7.4, I've been using LR for months with great success.  I have a Canon 60D.
After I updated to 3.6, I can't import photos any longer.  The error message says that the photos cannot be read.
I've done everything, from changing all the preferences, then back to the way they were, I've uninstalled and reinstalled LR from the original disc, I even tried importing from LR 3.2, without the update to 3.6 and that still didn't work.
I feel as though it's something that I did but I can't figure out what it is.  This is the second time I post this issue but there've been no responses.  The reason I think this, is that nobody else has posted that they're having this problem.
I've gone and bought Corel Aftershot Pro because I've become frustrated with trying to make this work.  I've checked other photo forums and have tried every thing I can find.  I've had to use the Canon DPP, which is inferior and Picasa, which I also don't like...I thought about buying LR 4.2 but didn't want to lay down the cash and that not work either.  I'd love to figure out what I've done to make this great program stop working, but I'm at my wit's end.  Amazon is delivering Corel in a couple of days...

  • As of a few days ago, I can no longer import photos from my Nikon Coolpix s7c into iPhoto. Never before had a problem. (it is the version prior to iPhoto 11--all Apple software is UTD)

As of a few days ago, I can no longer import photos from my Nikon Coolpix s7c into iPhoto '08. Never before had a problem.  I sent a request to Nikon for help and they referred me back to Apple.  Help, if possible, please.

As the photos imported to the test library you know that it works with your version of iPhoto (so, you can skip the paranoia about Apple making you upgrade). The issue then is the Library, so
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Why can I no longer import EDITED photo from my iPad to my Mac using Image Capture from Snapseed app?

Why can I no longer import EDITED photo from my iPad to my Mac using Image Capture? This is farcical and a real problem having to email them individually to myself and is totally inefficient time wise compared to previously using image capture! Why change this when it was working well and very quickly until the latest change. Now I have to move files from downloads into an appropriate folder, after emailing each individual edited image to myself, then I have to open in Photoshop and rename the file. This is ludicrous and takes forever to do!

Thank you! I suppected it would be in the settings somewhere. I' ve much to learn...get myself into trouble pushing buttons I don't really understand.

  • IPhoto worked great; with Photo I can no longer import pictures from my camera.  Why?

I never had a single problem importing photos using a USB connection between camera and iMac.  Since the new Photos was automatically installed with the latest OS Yosemite update, I no longer can import photos...the screen automatically opens, it shows all the photos on my camera, it allows me to choose which photo(s) I want to import and then I click "Import" and I get a nasty message that my photos to be imported are NOT in the correct format.  Well, what the heck format are they supposed to be in?  I see nowhere on my camera where I can change a format...
HELP!!!!  I need to import photos of my granddaughter's First Communion for my entire family and the photos are stuck on my camera!!

Backup cycle - running you normally computer backup - you do have a regular backup going don't you?
Image Capture is an application in your Applications folder exactly as I stated
Try Image capture (in your applications folder) or a card Reader - once the photos are safely on your mac and at least one successful backup cycle has run use the camera's format command to reformat the card
In order to import as before you have to solve the problem that you have
In irder to solve the problem you have to read and follow directiopns
Simply posting crazy comments and not fooling directions will not resolve your problem

There has been a change in where Firefox searches for plugins and the plugins folder in the Firefox program folder is no longer scanned for plugins, so Firefox won't find them anymore if they are installed in the plugins folder instead of the "browser\plugins" folder that Firefox now scans.
You can set the plugins.load_appdir_plugins pref to true on the about:config page to make Firefox scan the "<install>/plugins/" directory for plugins like the WMP plugin (np-mswmp.dll).
You can alternatively move plugins from "<install directory>\plugins\" to "<install directory>\browser\plugins\" (create this folder when missing) to make Firefox find them again.

  • Why can I no longer import photos to iphoto library from the internet with a right click?

Why can i no longer import photos from the internet to my iphoto library with just a right click?

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on seven different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.

  • I need help proving the date tag on a photo stored in my iPhoto is from the date it was sent to my iphone/date it was imported into iphoto - and that it is NOT the date the photo was actually taken.  Please help!

I need help proving the date tag on a photo stored in my iPhoto is from the date it was sent to my iphone/date it was imported into iphoto - and that it is NOT the date the photo was actually taken.   I recieved a photo via text on my iphone and then I synced my iphone to my macbook and now it is in iphoto.  I already know that the date on the photo per the tag that shows up on it in iphoto is NOT the date the photo was actually taken.  I need article or literature or something confirming the tag is from when it was sent to the iphone and/or when it was imported.  I greatly appreciate some assistance!

All I am trying to do is find something on a forum board or article etc stating that the the date showing in iphoto could be the date it was imported or synced or sent to me and not the actual date taken.
The date on the photo could be anything because you can edit the date with iPhoto or any of 100 apps, free and paid for. So, the date on the photo will prove nothing, I'm afraid.

  • Iphoto 09' will no longer import the photos from my ipad

    Hi,
I have iphoto 09' and it will no longer import photos from my ipad. The ipad is 2nd gen and run ios 7 (it is updated as of Dec. 13'). It says it does not support jpg. files, though it always has before. I have tried using image capture as well as preview, neither works. Image capture and preview say something about an image capture error -9129 or something. I have also tried to bypass completely by copying and drag/dropping onto a USB key and into a desktop folder. Neither of these work either. I have aslo tried using a new library in iphoto and it doesn't work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks and cheers, Dori

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?

  • Photos recently changed from sequential numbering to date/timestamp.  When I import into apps for editing they are out of order.  What can be done to change back to sequential numbering instead of date/timestamp?

Photos recently changed from sequential numbering to date/timestamp.  When I import into apps for editing they are out of order.  What can be done to change back to sequential numbering instead of date/timestamp?

The date information is taken from the camera which writes it to the file. This needs to be set to the correct date and time in the camera itself.
The order the images are shown in the Library mode is set by clicking on the sort button in the tool bar, which if not showing can be activated from view, tool bar. There are different sort orders that can be applied including sorting by file name. You can also sort by dragging the images to the order you wish them to appear in by selecting user order.

  • IPhoto will no longer import photos from any of my another cameras.

iPhoto will no longer import photos from any of my another cameras after importing photos from my iTouch.

Does the camera mount to the desktop so you can look to see what is there? Have you tried Image capture (in your applications folder) to import the photos? Have you tried unchecking hide previously imported to see what that shows? Do you have a USB card reader to try? When did you last reformat your memory card?
If you can get the photo off the card using any method do so and tehn use yoru camera's format command to reformat the card

  • Remove photo's by import date

Hi, I imported a bunch of photo's from a USB drive. Unfortunately, I didn't check the drives directory structure (got the drive from Windows user) the drive had a bunch of subdirectories with a bunch of photo's I didn't want (1,700+). Last import only shows the last subdirectory imported, and since the photo's were from all over the place in terms of dates I can't isolate them by events.
    How can I
    1. search on import date?
    2. remove all photo's by import date?

    p.chin
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
I'm sorry but I cannot think of any way to do this in iPhoto.
Do you have an up-to-date back up? Can you revert to before this import and then run it again?

  • LR is using meta data from previous edited photos on new imports

LR is using meta data from previous edited photos on new imports-
When I am importing new photos to a new catalog LightRoom gave all the photo settings that I had used on a previous catalogs photo I had to delete the catalog because I could not find an answer anywhere. Tried the deleteing and importing 3 times with same result.
Once I did Start another new catalog and pressed reset on everything I could find it worked.
What can I do if this happens again? Anybody know what setting that involves?

On the right side of the Import screen, there's a heading "Apply during import". (If it doesn't show, right-click on the panel on the right and choose it from the menu.) One of its sub-fields is Metadata. That field and the Keywords field below it, I think are "sticky". You need to make sure that they contain the metadata that you want applied in your current import.
It's almost always a bad idea to delete your catalogue or re-import images. Both those things fall at the very end of possible remedies because they cost you a lot of work, and there are almost always cheaper ways of solving your problem.
