Day View-ing options in Lion?

Still new to Lion -- searched this forum but couldn't find these two specific "Day View" topics..
1)  Within the Day View window, is there any way to set different widths for the two "columns" (the one-month-back, six-months-forward scrolling list on the left, and the selected day's events on the right)?  Or is it now just a 50/50 split based on the overall window size, with no user-controllable variation beyond that?
2)  How can I remain in Day View, but quickly skip ahead (or backwards) a month at a time? In Snow Leopard, the little calendar month box had its own left/right arrows, which made this easy. But I can't find anything that seems to perform the same function for the new calendar month display inset. And have tried adding every possible combination of modifier keys while clicking the left/right arrows now appearing at the top right (over the Event list), thinking that would be an obvious keyboard shortcut to advance the whole window more than just one a day at a time, but no luck.
So is it now the case that I first have to switch over to Month View, then do my month-at-a-time flipping, then switch back to Day View -- or is there still some "secret" way to remain in Day View but zip ahead or back a month at a time?  It's not a big deal either way -- it's just always slightly annoying (and a bit counter-intuitive) when something which was an always-available, one-click option in a previous OS, becomes a 2-3 click operation in its successor.
Any suggestions appreciated -- if only to just confirm that I'm SOL on both topics.

What rev of UWC are you running? I'm seeing this bug right now too on 118540-18.
If I open UWC, go to the calendar tab, day view, then click on the options tab, I see a javascript error:

'location' is null or not an object
Then I see a blank page :-(
I'll check with UWC folks and file a bug if there isn't one already.

  • ICal: multiuser option displays in Day view each user in separate column?

    I have been disappointed with the new iCal update. I do not see the option that would keep each calendar user in its own column when multiple calendars are displayed in iCal's Day view.
    In a multiple calendar display view, I would like to see my calendar items in column "A", and my wife's in column "B" side by side, and not intermixed.
    It is not acceptable that her empty slots are filled in with my items by expanding my column width to column "A" and column "B".
    It is not acceptable that if her calendar item starts five minute earlier than mine, then it is displaid in column "A" and my calendar item jumps to column "B".
    Is there a way in iCal to keep separate calendars in their own designated columns when displaid on multi calendar day view?

    I don't think there is another way for that. Did you try the pdf view?

  • Day View- Options Bug

    Does anyone else have a port problem with the Options Tab when in the Day View on the Calendar? For us, it points to the wrong port, its the ONLY link that does this... :)

  • Sometimes I can't get out of Day view in iCal.  There is no where on the screen to select month view, even when I close it out and go back into iCal.

    Sometimes I am locked in "day" view in iCal.  There is no where on the screen to choose "month" view, even when I close it out and open again.  Tapping anywhere on the screen or scrolling doesn't help.

    Give this a try:
    1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
    2 - delete the contents the following folder: User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
    3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try full screen again.
    NOTE: For Mavericks and Yosemite,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
    where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.

  • How can I fix left pane text overlap in iCal Day view?

    In "Day" view, the items in the left hand (list) pane in iCal are overlapping, obscuring the bottom 1/3 of each line of text. It is as if the table cells are too close together vertically. How do I fix this?

    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    *Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Safe+Mode
    Try to disable hardware acceleration.
    *Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
    If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

  • How do I display more than one month calendar in the day-view?

    iCal has always had a nice feature that allowed me to display little, what I call, mini-month calendars while in the day-view.  This allowed me to quickly jump to a day two or three (or more) months ahead (or behind) to check appointments on that day or set an appointment, without switching out of the day-view.
    The mini-month was a small clickable calendar that looked something like this:

    15 16 17 18 19 20 21
    22 23 24 25 26 27 28
    There was also a forward and backward arrow box [ < ][ > ] that allowed me to quickly scroll to the mini-month to find the day I wanted to click into.  And, if I wanted to give it more room by adjusting the frame, I could display up to three months at a time within my day view.
    Since upgrading iCal to 5.0 with the Lion upgrade, I can no longer display more than the current mini-month calendar on the day view.
    This is REALLY inconvenient.  Now, there is no way (that I know of) for me to stay in the day view and be able to jump ahead to a specific day two or three months out, or even to a day in the NEXT month without either going to the year view (a big waste of time) or click on the last day of the current month and then clicking the ">" day arrow to get to the next day which then shows that month's mini-calendar.
    How do I display more than the current month's mini-month calendar in the day view on Lion?

    Unfortunately you can't do what you want. Many people have complained to Apple about this. I suggest you provide Apple feedback directly at http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html. They will not provide a direct response but hopefully if enough people provide feedback Apple will fix this.

  • ICal day view upcoming events list--can it be turned off?

    Just upgraded to 10.7 and the changes to iCal (v. 5.0.3) are horrifying. I plan most of my daily work on iCal and really need the Day view of the calendar to fill most of the window and show more details on my calendar items as it did before in 10.6. As it is now, the left half of the screen is now taken over by a list of upcoming events which gives the daily view too little space, so all my calendar items and notes are truncated. Makes it very difficult to work with. Is there a way to turn that upcoming view off? I don't understand why it's there. If I've selected "day" as my view option, it stands to reason that I don't need upcoming events for this week. The rationale behind that being there taking up all that unnecessary space is beyond me.
    Barring that, anyone have any suggestions for an iCal replacement? I have a long list of other complaints but this one is a big one. If I can't fix this, I need to move on to something else.

    Same question here... over a year later!  Mine's about iCal 6, but it's the very same issue.
    Cannot stand the scrolling list of events.  When I select a day view, I want to concentrate on that day's events-- and not see a long list of other events for other days!
    Rick, did you ever find a solutiion?  Maybe there's a hidden Terminal command to turn it off.  I kept looking for dot within the pane divider to collapse it, but it's not there.  Nor is there an option under Preferences!

  • Calendar List and Day View

    iCal in my iPad is actually more workable and readable than on my 27inch Mac now - ha ha - how crazy is that !!!
    iPad has word wrapping in Day view so I can see all the details (in the Mac / Lion there is no wrapping grrrrr)
    iPad I can touch an appointment in the calendar and get all the details pop up - in Mac/Lion all my calendars overlap and cover each other and even when I click an event it is still unreadable...
    In Day view I cant see my calendar list until I click on the button to open the list of calendars - then I cant see my list of events.
    We should be able to CHOOSE what we want to see.
    In Day view - with the List on the left - I cant see all details of my events. With all the calendars open, they all overlap each other on the right and I cant see all the details there either - EVEN if I click the event, its still unable to be read.
    If the LIST on the left had Wrapping, it would be awesome, so I could read all the details of my events in the list.
    As soon as anyone knows how to sort any of these issues out, I will be MOST happy.
    I wish I could go back to the old version of iCal which was perfect for me - this one makes life SOOOOO difficult. I have worked with it for 3 days and the limitations - I always used my iPad, iPhone and iMac - but the Mac calendar is now useless to me and I am having to use the iPad solely till it gets sorted out.....hopefully asap...?

    It looks like I have found a solution - it is to do with the birthday dates - if you delete the year of any pre-1932 birthdays it solves the problem! 

  • In Day view, how to jump to next month

    I've just updated to 10.7 and while there are so many things that annoy me about this iCal update, I'm going to try and focus on some very straightforward user interface options that were both solid and useful in 10.6 (and practically every other calendar software ever built) but have disappeared with the "Here's what we think you'd like in a Western Wear store if you were made to go into a western wear store and buy the fringey glitter eel skin boots you don't really want" update.
    In 10.6 in the day view, we could show multiple future months at a time by toggling an option in the lower left. Wow, pretty revolutionary. It's kind of like those paper calendars I've seen in Mad Men episodes from the 1950s that have an easy way to see many (or all) months at a time. Wow they had it good back then. In the 10.6 iCal software, it provides an easy way to jump to a future date to check on it (AND REMAIN IN DAY VIEW), which I'd say is a pretty essential part of a calendaring software program. One click, you're months in advance. One more click, you're back on today.
    In 10.7, we get the handy current month at top left with a big number (and an abbreviated day, ***?), but from what I can tell, absolutely no easy way to get to a day view in a future month. For example, it's Nov 22nd. If I want to check on Dec. 1, what does one have to do? Let's review the "updated" options-
    1. Click the day advance button 9 times
    2. Switch to month view, advance to the next month, then double click on the Dec. 1
    3. Use the event list tiny scroll bar to hunt the date down like the event carnivore that I am (Why am I forced to look at this event LIST anyhow, I just want a calendar - it's called iCal, not iList)
    4. View menu, go to date, and manually TYPE in a date? Not even a graphic month view here, like you'd find in, say, ANY system that lets you pick a date?
    But, maybe I'm missing something (other than 10.6)
    Please, someone out there tell me this is not an OMEN of untested, experimental, and ugly updates to come from Team Cupertino.

    Using the string value of an enum is fine, though.

  • How can I display event notes on the relevant event in week/day view?

    Hi folks,
    I'm looking for a way to display the event notes on the actual event in week or day view.
    This will greatly help plan out my week (especially for repetitive events with custom notes for each occurrence).
    I can understand that Apple ommitted this feature to avoid clutter on short-duration events perhaps?
    Clicking on the event (or using the Inspector) to see the notes is not an option. I need an overview that can be viewed at a glance or even printed.

    With iCal as it is the only suggestion I have would be to add the full text to the title of the events.

  • Using the Day view in Calendar, how do I turn off the list of events?

    In Snow Leopard, the events were shown by the hour, as they are now in Lion on the far right (when in Day view). However, also in Day is a repeat of all the same events, but in word-list order. That appears in the middle of the interface if you are showing calendars, or on the left if you have hidden the calendars. I want to turn that redundant list of events off in Day view and just have the classic view from Snow Leopard. Anyone know how? Thanks!

    Click on your name, then Preferences on the right side navigation, then Email Notification Preferences.

  • Calendar Week/Day View problems in SP1 under some conditions

    Try this in WebAccess: in Week View or Day View create an appointment on a Saturday (has to be Saturday and no other day) after about 6pm, best 11pm. It is not shown, just like it does not exist. Before 6pm it seem to work fine. Only when you switch to Month View you see the hidden appt. Before SP1 Sunday had this problem and as far as I remember it was first few hours on Sunday that did not work. Looks like there is a problem with date filtering, with problematic few hours depending I guess on a timezone where you are and maybe in relation to the server timezone. Apparently there was an attempt to fix the problem, but it just got bumped to another day. In Week View the week starts from Sun and ends on Sat, so there was/is a problem at those boundary days. In Day View, well, the whole day is a boundary day.

  • Some all day events don't show in day view

    We are using Leopard server to host iCal with various machines running 10.5.8 Leopard and 10.6.7 Snow Leopard. We have 16 calendars we share under Delegates. Some calendars (on Leo & SL clients) are missing a specific "all day" event in day view but they are there in week and month view. The missing item is the same one across all machines. I've checked delegations but that does not fix it. I'm still doing a survey, but most of the machines missing the events are running SL. Anyone having this experience? Thanks

    I take it then you don't have a memory problem. Just to clarify, your events on the calendar are fine, it's just the display
    on the home screen where they disappear?
    Have you tried a battery pull to reset all options?  Pill the battery from the phone while it is ON, leave it out for about a
    minute and replace. Leave the system completly reboot 1-2 minutes and see if the problem continues. This is a common fix on these forums.

  • Where did the calendar list go in the day view?

    In Yosemite, it has happened - the list view is gone from the day view in calendar.
    iOS7 took it away, and they restored it because of popular demand.
    Let the requests begin to restore it in OS X calendar.
    You can never see all the appointments in a day without it, even on my Thunderbolt display.

    Well i did find them but they are not working.  Under keyboard in settings.    Like I have one that

    Shortcut is cm.   anyplace I'm typing if I write cm, call me would be a option shown and auto type.   They are there but not working.  Any ideas?
