Dazzle or something similar for mac?

I need a device that will allow me to connect a VCR to my mac for Final Cut to do capture. Will Dazzle work? Is there a mac solution?

Dazzle used to have a product called DV-Bridge that had excellent reviews but it has been discontinued. A really good option is the Canopus ADVC110. It does the analog capture thing quite well. It is a firewire unit and integrates seamlessly with FCP.

  • How can I open multiple "non-merged" firefox windows? With IE, I would use the "-nomerge" option. Is there something similar for Firefox?

I use a website in my daily work activities that I need to have multiple sessions of the website open at any given time. Natively, I cannot have multiple sessions open in a single browser (separated tabs or separate windows) without one session taking over the other. Internet Explorer has a command line option (-nomerge) that will allow me to accomplish what I need. The target line of the IE shortcut properties would look like this:
    "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -nomerge
Is there a similar solution for Firefox?
    I am running Windows 7, IE11 and Firefox 26
    Thank you in advance,

  • ACDSee or similar for Mac

I have recently moved from PC to an iMac.  I really don't like iPhoto as a photo editor, and  have been looking for a Mac version of ACDSee (which is what I have been using on my PC), but can't find it Is there a Mac versiion, or is there any Mac-compatible software that approxmate ACDSee?  Features i am looking for:
    - I get to decide how to manage my images (not the softare deciding for me, the way iPhoto works)
    - Ability to view a large number of different image file types
    - Ability to see all the images in a folder at once as icons (like lightbox)
    - Ability to batch modify files (rename, convert, rotate, etc.)
    - Ability to attach tags or metadata to the file
I don't mind paying for it, if it suits my needs (rather than forces me to change my habits to suit the software).
    Thanks

I found it, you can display all your pics in thumbs, do some batch operations (batch rename, batch resize…), basic editing (rotate, straighten, resize, crop, color adjustment, colour temperature, and more…). And it is 100% free. It is PhotoScape X. Check it out for more info on FastStone vs PhotoScape X functions...

  • Fetchmail (or something similar) on Mac OS X Server

I would like to have Mac OS X Server 10.4.7 (with its standard Mail Services) fetch emails from remote POP3 accounts and put them into users' local email accounts on my server (from where they will be accessed through IMAP), basically like what fetchmail or the POP3 Connector in Microsoft Exchange Server does. How do I do this? As far as I know, this is not possible using the standard GUI tools.

This program just forwards all email from POP3
accounts to SMTP. That would work fine, except it
needs a user to be logged in on the server.
<daft workaround mode> Well, if you are concerned about leaving the server 'open' you could always create a second user account on the server (in Preferences: Accounts NOT workgroup manager), make it a non-admin and enforce "simple" finder (which hides all disks etc and allows only specified apps). Log out serveradmin and log in as new account. The server will quite happily carry on behind the scenes.
<more workarounds mode> Set up Mail with the pop accounts, set a rule by 'account' which simply redirects (not forwards) mail to the relevant iMap accounts.
I've no idea whether it would work in reality - just seemed a simple, grungy 'workaround'

  • Does something like this exist for mac somewhere?

    http://www.bitboost.com/pawsense/
I've recently gotten a cat that loves my desk and keyboard. I've had to resort to unplugging my keyboard whenever i'm not by it. While it isn't a big deal, i'd prefer it if i didn't have to. Is there something similar for mac?

yeah, i know that's an option too, but the problem is it doesn't work when i'm watching a movie or something full screen or have just stepped away from my computer for a second.

  • "Screen Capture" of Everything (Fireshot for Mac?)

Someone recently posted an image of a long list of items - say in Finder or in a Safari page - that showed everything in that window including items that were not on the screen. What I mean to say is that this app allowed them to capture all the items including the ones that were beyond view due to the need to scrolldown to see the rest.
The plugin was named Fireshot for Mozilla https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5648/
Is there something similar for Safari or MacOS?
    Thanks.

    Hi. Many thanks.
Can I please ask you how you get Paparazzi to work? I had it downloaded but I couldn't quite seem to find out how to get it to work.
Do I manually put the url into the dialog box?
Will it do anything for other windows on my mac so I can capture all of them instead of what I can just see?
    Thanks,
    Jon

  • Kid games (ages 3-5) options for mac

A friend has a good Blues Clues game that his 3 year old can play on his PC (matching colors and shapes and stuff). I've been trying to find something similar for my 3 year old daughter who only thinks of the mac as something to use to talk to her grandmother (iChat) with and does not get the concept of pushing buttons or using a mouse.
I've been checking stores and can't seem to find anything. Also searching on line but seem to only get PC options.
Question - Is there anybody with kids that has a suggestion? Ideally I would prefer to either order online or download online.
    Thanks,
    Tony

You may want to check my games jumpstation website:

Somewhere in there might be a game that is appropriate.
Also, a good software that isn't quite a game, but your daughter may like is Golly Gee blocks:

  • WHAT REPAIR UTILITY CAN I USE BESIDES NORTON UTILITIES FOR MAC 0S 10.3.9?

I have been reading about the Disk Utility and repairing "repair permissions" and frankly I am confused. Since we cannot ue Norton Utilities for Mac OS 10.3.9. Is there a repair utility which will "deep fix" my hard drive the way that Norton used to before Panther? Some say Disk Warrior and some say Tech Tool. Which one is most effective or is there something else for Mac? Thanks.

    Marcia:
In addition to Disk Warrior, mentioned in an earlier post, there is also Tech Tool Pro. DW does a great job of Directory repair and rebuilding. TTP repairs and rebuilds the directory in addition to hardware check, disk scan, files check, and files and disk optimization/defragmentation.
The first recourse, should always be, of course, OS X's own built in Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility), for Repairing Disk Permissions and Repairing the Disk, along with other tasks.
ali b's links to maintenance sites also link resources for Unix Maintenance (also referred to as CRON cleaning) a very important maintenace item, and other very helpful utilities.
Sorry if this sounds a bit confusing. The sites ali linked have a lot of very useful information and I recommend that you check them out. May I, in addition, commend you for discontinuing the use of Norton.
    Good luck.

  • But I can't find something similar in the printer setup under Mac OS. Any idea?

Got a problem with connecting my daughter's Macbook to a HP printer in the LAN at home. For PC running on Win7, I can specify the printer's TCP/IP port under printer setup to establish the LAN connection. But I can't find something similar in the printer setup under Mac OS. Any ideas? Thanks

It looks like the developer's of that app, or Apple, have got the wrong search name for it in the store - you could try contacting the developer and pointing it out to them so that they can get it corrected. Currently it looks like you can only find the app either by using the link (as you've included in your post), or by searching for the developer's name (Page Foundry Inc) in the store.
For searching the store, when you search for something then the first result(s) should be those whose title matches what you searched for - so if you search for 'ebook reader' then as there is an app with that exact name it will be first in the results, other apps will then be listed after it.

  • I have a question that I think I know the answer to, but am looking for confirmation.  I have a dell computer at home that has clip art available on it for putting pictures into documents.  Do I need to install an APP to get something similar to clip art?

I have a question that I think I know the answer to, but am looking for confirmation.  I have a desktop computer at home that has clip art loaded onto it.  I recently got an iPad and am looking for something similar.  I assume I need to get an APP for it, and if that is correct, does anyone have one that they like?

Sort of.  There is an app called art shop that gives you a place to park clip art.   But I don't think you really need it.
If you have a collection of clip art you want available, move it to the camera roll on your pad/ phone, then copy paste into your document the clip you want.
You can get them into the camaera roll by putting them in a single event in your picture library and syncing them over,  or e mail them to your self, and save to the camera roll, or send them to drop box, and bring them down that way.
The challenge is getting them all in one place to make it easy for you to find, which is why syncing might be the best approach in the long run.
As near as I can tell there is not a ready made clip art collection in app format laying around.

  • I have an external hardrive for MAC, I needed to save something from my work computer so I can pass it on to my MAC, it requiered me to re-format my external HD and now when I connected to my MAC I only have "read only rights". How do I fix it?

I have an external hardrive for MAC, I needed to save something from my work computer so I can pass it on to my MAC, it requiered me to re-format my external HD and now when I connected to my MAC I only have "read only rights". How do I fix it? I run my Itnues from this external and now my library is gone. Luckily I have it saved somewhere else, which is not a problem, but I won't be able to write to this HD for right now. I can't see an option to give those permission back.

Unless what you have to transfer is enormous, skip the external HD altogether and use a USB flash drive; you can get them with capacities to 128GB. Format the flash drive as FAT32 or ExFAT as LowLuster suggests so it can be read and written to on both PC's and your Mac.

Is there a Blackberry Desktop Software for MAC OS 10.4.11?  Or something equivalent?
I recently switched from a palm treo to blackberry but didn't anticipate syncing issues with my mac until now.  The current BB desktop software seems only compatible with MAC OS 10.5, so I'm in a difficult position.
