DB Link to Excel

Hi,
I need to be able to connect to excel via warehouse builder. I have been searching the web all morning trying to find detailed instructions on how to setup hetrogenous services / transparent gateways, can any one supply me with detailed instructions on how to do this or point me to where I could get this information.
Thanks again...
Regards
Paul Heath

Paul,
You can connect to excel by using the generic connectivity feature of the database through ODBC. This is a feature of the Oracle 9i database and you don't have to install anything, it is intended to cover all the data sources which are not specifically covered by the transparent gateways and are accessible either by OLE DB or by ODBC (such as excel). You will need the ODBC driver on the excel side (there are a lot of vendors, take a look at this one, for example: http://www.datadirect-technologies.com/products/odbc/odbcindex.asp ). Also you will have to set up generic connectivity on the Oracle side. Take a look at the gateway documentation at http://otn.oracle.com/products/gateways/content.html .

  • Automatic Linking from Excel 2013 to Word 2013 not working.

I use Word and Excel to create reports about certain real estate properties.  When I have a new job, I just rename the old files and continue working.  I also have active links from Excel into Word that are set to automatically update.  I
used to use Office 2003 and all worked fine.  Now in 2013, after I rename and convert the files to the 2013 file formats, the links do not update automatically.  Here are my steps:
    1. Copy the 2003 Excel and Word files to a new folder (these files link properly, where if I make a change in Excel 2003 it automatically flows to Word 2003)
    2. Rename the Excel and Word files to the new job name and convert them to 2013 file formats.
    3. Open the now 2013 Word file and do not update Excel links (as it is still linked to old 2003 file).
    4. Break all links in Word 2013 to the Excel 2003 files.
    5. Insert new active Hyperlinks in Word 2013 to the Excel 2013 files making sure that it is set to "automatic updates".
HOWEVER, now the links will NOT automatically update.  If I have both Word and Excel 2013 files open and make changes in Excel, you do not see them in Word.  You have to right click on the area and choose "Update
Links".  Is there anywhere else that controls the automatic update features?

    Hi,
I actually can reproduce this problem on one Office 2013 machine, but on the other machine with Office 2013, it automatically updates the link as it should.
You can create a new Word document and a new Excel file, copy the content from the old files to the new files, re-create the link, check if the link can automatically update.

  • Aus Word File ein PDF erstellen mit Links zu Excel-Arbeitsblatt

    Guten Morgen miteinander
    Weiss jemand Rat?
    Vielen Dank für eure Hilfe
    Gruss Oli

  • Script to break external links in Excel?

Is there a script I can use to break all external links in Excel (2004)?

If I run this script :

                tell active workbook
repeat with tName in (get link sources type link type Excel links)
break link name tName type link type Excel links
                            end repeat
repeat with tName in (get link sources type link type OLE links)
break link name tName type link type OLE links
                            end repeat
                end tell
    end tell
The menu item "Links ..." in menu "Edit" is disabled.
Is this the same thing with your workbook ?
If yes and you still have links:
If you copy the formula of a link and paste it into the formula of a cell, it will not be considered as a link object.
Excel Link is an inserted object, or by copy/paste a link object, you can change the range in the formula, the range is changed but the object is always a link.

  • Links to excel file on safari page suddenly stopped working, but work in firefox.  Happened yesterday. Help!

I have a webpage with links mapped from an icon to two excel files. They aren't working. I checked the html. it is identical to two links to .png files and the location is correct, but nothing happens when you click the link.  I have reset, emptied cache and thrown out the plists,
    The html reads:
    <img usemap="#Curio_Map" src="Steps%20in%20Detail(3D691625).png" />

The Assets folder is in the same folder as the index.html page with frames and the page within the frame.
The html for the .png files that do work is:

Look the same to me!  Why does one work and the other not, and why did it happen all of a sudden?  Any thoughts?

It sounds like the page has somehow got stuck in the cache of
    a server
somewhere. Delete the file from the server, and then call the
    page.
Hopefullt you should then get a 404 error. Then FTP the page
    back. This
should hopefully clear out the cache.

  • Create link to excel sheet from ssrs

    Hi!
I,m trying to create a link from SSRS to an excel sheet that is placed on a server (in my case the same server as Sql is running)
\\csedb30\BusinessWarehouse\VDC\Actual\exceltest.xlsx.  I have made links to url sites and to other reports within reporting services, But this time i would like to use a
textbook control in a report and when the user click on the texbox it should open up the excel sheet in the same way that a hyperlink works in excel. The problem seems to be that i have to link to a source on a server not a URL adress.
Is there any solution to this.
    Best regards
    Arne
    Arne Olsson

    Hi Arne,
In this scenario, you just need to put    file:\\csedb30\BusinessWarehouse\Linktest.xlsx in the Go to URL expression. Don't put "=" in the expression,
and the path will be underlined. And you need to redeploy the project to make it work. After you click the textbox, the path will be shown in the browser.
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

  • Link to Excel document in site throws "Document with same name already open"

I have an Excel document stored in a document library in SP2010.  I provided a link to the document in a CEWP on a page.  When clicking the link on the page, Excel throws the erorr "Two documents with the same name cannot be opened" error.
When clicking the link in the document library, the Excel workbook opens fine.  When hovering over both links, the URL in the status bar is identical.  Here is the link in the page:
    <span style="width:120px; padding-right:50px;">
    <a class="ms-addnew" href="https://mydomain.com/sys/groups/ermcg/RA/Shared%20Documents/RA1.xlsm">
    <img src="https://mydomain.com/sys/groups/ermcg/RA/SiteAssets/excelsmall.jpg" style="border:none;vertical-align:middle;"></img>&nbsp;Download to Excel</a>
    </span>
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi jd_hancock,
The scenario is not reproduced in my environment.
I used Fiddler to check whether there are differences between them to download the file, it seems the same and the file also successfully opened in the Content Editor Web Part.
I would suggest you to use the same way to check whether the download process is the same, also, type the url directly in the address bar, whether the document can be opened as expected?
    Thanks,

    Hi Romina,
I am not sure if I correctly understood your question, but you can try to use the broadcasting functionalities which allows you to publish Excel and PDF documents on the portal, besides online links to real time data.
    You can check:

  • Links in excel don't work once uploaded to dropbox

    Hi,
I am busy creating an excel document that has various link to documents in other folders on my computer. I would like to share this so others in my department can use it as well (via dropbox) but once I have uploaded the original document to dropbox (with
all the other folders containing the documents that the links point to) then when I click on the links in the excel document they cannot find the files. I have tried everything in trying to solve this. I was hoping editing it in my dropbox folder on my computer
would solve the problem as surely it should sync it automatically? Nothing works!
    Any help MUCH APPRECIATED!!!
    Thanks!

    Hi,
As far as I know, Office uses relative address than absolute address by default.
When a file is uploaded, the "convert to relative" feature changes hyperlinks to relative links when the file is saved.
    Is your Office version 2003?
To use this hotfix, follow these steps:
    1. Quit Office.
    2. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
    3. Locate and then click to select the following registry key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Common
    4. After you select the key that is specified in step 3, point to New on the Edit menu, and then click DWORD Value.
    5. Type UseCaseInsensitivePathForHyperlink, and then press ENTER.
    6. Right-click UseCaseInsensitivePathForHyperlink, and then click Modify.
    7. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
    8. On the File menu, click Exit to quit Registry Editor.
    Notice: Please backup the registry.
Please refer to the below link:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917689/en-us
And you also can use HYPERLINK to create a new file.

  • I can't open web links in Excel or Word when Firefox is my default browser, but they links work when IE is my default browser. How do I open the links with Firefox as the default?

I recently downloaded Firefox and made it my default browser. Links I have in Excel and Word that used to open with a single click when IE was my default browser no longer work. When I switched my default browser back to IE the links work again.

This problem just arose for me today. Very frustrating. Tried all of the suggestions here without success. Then a very simple solution came to me:
UNINSTALL CHROME. I haven't used Chrome for a long while anyway since it seems to have chronic problems of one sort or another. Firefox does 95% of what I need, and Internet Explorer can handle the other 5%.
After uninstalling Chrome I clicked a mailto link. It asked me what program to use and did not list Firefox as an option for some reason. In the Tools menu, I chose "Options" and went to the "Applications" tab. Searched for "mailto". There was a single entry - when Chrome was installed it gave me no options to switch. After uninstalling Chrome I was able to change that. It still did not list Firefox, but it did list "Gmail". Selecting that causes my Gmail to open in Firefox.
I have no idea whether Google or Microsoft is responsible for this, but I'm inclined to give the hairy eyeball to Google for this one. It's the sort of stunt they'd pull on Microsoft, then pretend it was just a mistake. Just one guy's opinion, of course.

  • Creating link to excel document within PDF portfolio

i created a pdf portfolio and created links to pdf documents within portfolio but am unable to create a link to the excel documents.  I can't even create a link to direct them to a specific folder where the item is held.  HELP, New to pdf portfolio's!

One option is to create a PDF from the Excel spreadsheet and link to that.
If you want to update the spreadsheet, you could create a Web Content overlay (or HTML article) that links to a Google spreadsheet. I've played around with linking to a Google presentation, and it works fine. You can update the spreadsheet/presentation on the website and the changes automatically appear in the overlay. I've just dabbled at it, so I wouldn't be much help with sizing/formatting issues.

  • Field link to excel cell

I am using adobe acrobat 5.0. Is there a way to link the fields in an excel cell?

No, but you could write a little applescript to open the spreadsheet and go to a cell, save the script as an application, and put a link to it in the url field of an event.

  • Links from Excel to Project

So I am trying to link an existing excel worksheet to MS Project.  The desired functionality would be for users to keep updating information in excel, which would update MSP.
    Problems are,
-I cant seem to get the mapping wizard to select the cells I want to link.
-Can i make it so that the MSP automatically updates with information as it is updated in excel?
-Am I completely wasting my time here, is it better spent throwing excel out and starting fresh with project (including trainng users)

    Matt --
I would challenge you why your schedulers need to type the updates into Excel instead of just typing the updates directly into the Microsoft Project schedule.  If you absolutely need to follow the path of entering the updates into an Excel workbook,
Microsoft Project has an Import Wizard that allows a user to update a project using data from an Excel workbook.  Keep in mind that the process of importing the data from Excel to Microsoft Project is MANUAL and not automatic.
I have personally used the Import Wizard to import updates from Excel to Microsoft Project, but with mixed results, some good and some bad.  It is not a process I would personally recommend because it seems to behave inconsistently.  If you have
your schedulers type the updates in the Microsoft Project schedule directly, you will not see the inconsistent behavior I have seen with the Import Wizard.  Just a thought.  Hope this helps.

  • How do I make dynamic links to Excel cells, not sheets?

Help! I thought I'd found the perfect way to link an in-progress Excel spreadsheet to an in-progress InDesign file. That allowed the Product Management group to do content, and the graphic group to do layout simultaneously. After several days of layout, someone changed the number of rows in the spreadsheet, and all the cell links to InDesign are broken. I have pages and pages already done, and the cells are filling with the entire spreadsheet, and not tracking to the moved cells. HELP!

    Bob:
Well, you had my heart beating fast for a  minute, hoping it was that simple. I tested in .xls, and it does permit the link back to a unique cell, instead of the whole sheet, but it doesn't track cell content that's moved to a new row/column position in the sheet. I think I'm out of luck -- and headed for a few beers.
    Thanks.
