  • Finder Folder Size Calculations

    When I'm archiving, I have to do a lot of Get Info to calculate the folder sizes for DVD burning. Problem I'm having is the file size calculations start taking forever after working for a few minutes, or they don't calculate at all. Usually works fine when I start but after a minute or so It's like the computer get's tired and just stops. Even if it's a 1mb folder it will have trouble.
    Is this normal? Seems really odd that something so incredibly simple can make my archiving process so difficult.
    Files reside on a network HD.
    Thanks for any help.

    I'd create a disk image of appropriate size, mount it, copy items to it until it tells you there's no more room. Then, burn it.

  • How is the font size calculated in pixel sized documents?

    Hello to all,
    I am working with Illustrator CS4 on a web design. In the document setup, I set the size to 1000*1600 pixels. Then, I tried to add some text in font size 12 pt. The font appears *very* small. My objective was to use the same font size settings in my Illustrator file as I will later do in the HTML/CSS coding. How do I get Illustrator to scale the fonts in the same way as the browser does - i.e. a 12 pt text in the browser has the same size as a 12 pt text in Illustrator? Infact, I am looking for a setting where I can define the resolution of text size calculation.
    Best regards
    Joerg

    Illustrator is a print-oriented, object-based vector drawing program, not a web-oriented, pixel-based raster painting program.
    Illustrator's ruler is designed to represent real-world measure, not counts of pixels.
    A pixel is not a measure. Pixels have no real-world measure.
    Therefore, when Illustrator's ruler pretends to represent "pixels," it has to assign some real-world scale to them. It defaults to the measure of a point. A point is a real-world measure.
    Similarly, a computer's operating system has to decide how many screen pixels it will use to represent a real-world measure at 100% zoom.
    Mac OS defaults to using 1 pixel to represent 1 point. (72 PPI)
    Windows and web browsers default to using 1.33 pixels to represent 1 point. (96 PPI)
    So tell a browser to display 12 point type, and it will use 16 pixels to do that.
    Given Illustrator's default that 1 pixel measures 1 point at 100%, Illustrator uses about 9 pixels to render the cap height of 12 point Verdana.
    GIven the browsers' default that 1 point renders to 1.3 pixels, the browser uses about 12 pixels to render the cap height of 12 point Verdana.
    So given that Illustrator and the browser are going to use different numbers of pixels to rasterize 12 point type, how do you get a browser to use the same number of pixels to render 12 point Verdana as Illustrator does? Simple: Specify the type size in the HTML code by pixels, not by points. This is a screenshot of Internet Explorer on Windows displaying a web page which contains:
    A raster image of 12 point Verdana exported from Illustrator, using its default 72 PPI rasterization
    Live 12 pixel Verdana HTML text.
    Live 12 point Verdana HTML text.
    Inversely, there are other ways to work around Illustrator's 72 PPI default when you want to rasterize Illustrator type so that it looks the same as the same-point-size text in HTML.
    When using Save For Web & Devices, specifiy 133% instead of the default 100%.
    Scale the artwork to 133% before exporting via Save For Web & Devices using the default 100%
    When rasterizing, rasterize to 96 PPI instead of 72 PPI. (1.33 as many pixels)
    When exporting, export to 96 PPI instead of 72 PPI. (1.33 as many pixels)
    Or, do what I do: Get a decent screenshot utility. When I want to rasterize something from Illustrator that contains text that I want to appear online at the same scale that it appears to me when working in Illustrator, I simply zoom to 133% and take a screenshot.

  • Sample Size Calculation in Quality Management

    Dear QM Experts,
    We are facing an issue in sample size calculation when the Inspection Lot Quantity is less than 1 Kg Lets Say for Ex: 0.5 Kg. We are using MICs inside the Plan with suitable Sampling Procedure. The Sampling Procedure has the Following Settings
    Sampling Type = Fixed Sample, Valuation Mode = Attributive inspection for Non-Confirming Units, No of Samples = 2
    So Whenever the Inspection Lot Quantity is 1 Kg or More than that then Each of the MICs inside the results recording screen has the "Inspect" Column correctly set to 2. However when the inspection Lot Quantity is set to 0.5 Kg, the "Inspect" Column for that MIC is set to "1".
    Kindly Provide your suggestions how to handle this ?. Kindly advise if we can avoid this by changes to Inspection Plan or Sampling Procedure.We would like to have the "Sample Size" or the "No of Inspections" to be carried out on a MIC to be Fixed irrespective of the Inspection Lot Quantity.
    Regards
    Ram

    Hi All,
    Issue Resolved by Adjusting the Base Unit of Measure against the MICs. SAP Calculates Sample Size by multplying the Sample Size in the Sampling Procedure ( = 2) and the Base Unit of Measure against that MIC (0.5 KG). So SAP Calculates this for each and Every MIC inside that operation and takes the highest number out of that. Therefore the minimum sample Size requirement in the above case was = 0.5 X 2 = 1 KG
    If the Inspection Lot is created with a quantity lesser than this then the Inspect Column Showed "1" although the sampling procedure had a sample size of "2". This is because SAP finds that the Inspection Lot quantity and therefore the sample size in the lot is not enough to meet the minimum sample size requirements for that operation. To resolve this issue we modified the Base quantity as 0.1 KG and it resolved our issue

  • Sample size calculation for Source Inspection

    Dear Gurus,
    I have an issue regaring sample size calculation for Source Inspection.
    I created a PO for 500 nos.
    The sampling procedure assigned in the Quality Plan is %age based (10%).
    When Inspection lot is created, system is caluating the Sample size as 500 and not 50.
    Moreover, when I go to Result Recording, the Inspection qty for the MIC is shown as 1. If the system is calculating sample size as 500, then the inspection qty for the MIC should also be 500. Moreover, the sample size should be 50 only.

  • Time Machine Backup Size Calculation Error

    This is what I have:
    Internal:
    Mac OS partition: 266GB (257GB Used)
    BootCamp partition: 32GB ( 12GB Used)
    External:
    External USB 2.0 HD: 153GB (142GB Used)
    TM Backup Drive: 466GB ( 0GB Used)
    *What I have excluded:*
    - TM Backup Drive
    - BootCamp partition
    *Therefore what I'm trying to backup are only:*
    - MacOS partition
    - External USB 2.0 HD
    Time Machine Preferences Options Pane reports "Total Included: 398.4GB", and that's totally correct for what I'm intending to backup (i.e. MacOS partition + External USB 2.0 HD = 257GB + 142GB = 399GB). So far so good.
    But when TM kicks off after the countdown, an error dialog pops up saying:
    *Time Machine Error*
    This backup is too large for the backup volume. The backup requires 478.0 GB but only 465.5GB are available.
    To select a large volume, or make the backup smaller by excluding files, open System Preferences and choose Time Machine.
    [Preferences] [OK]
    Now how does TM figure out that 478.0GB number?
    If I add up all used spaces for all drives (excl. TM drive), I only get 411GB.
    If I add up all capacity of all drives (excl. TM drive), I only get 451GB.
    How in the world did TM calculate that 478.0GB number? Why is there a discrepancy between what's reported in the options pane and the error dialog?
    BTW, I have verified all my disks and they are all fine.
    All my drives and partitions (except the bootcamp partition) are formatted properly to Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
    Someone please advice.
    Much appreciated.

    Disregarding the Mac/Win partitions, my internal HD as a whole is 298GB. My external USB drive is 153GB.
    nestea247,
    Your computer info says : iMac Aluminum 24" ....... 320GB HD.
    So, I assumed your internal HD is 320GB and you are currently using 298GB of it. Therefore my simple calculation was not "298GB + 153GB" but "320GB + 153GB(ca.)". Did I misunderstand?
    My point was: For the first-time backup, in order to copy the entire image (including the *free space*) of the volume to backup, TM might think it needs about the same size of backup volume as your internal HD ( + external USB drive, in your case). Not simply adding up the size of the *used space*.
    Leter, however, it will get more realistic and adjust to the actual data size; so, after completing all the hard link setup, the size of its backup seems to "shrink." Your TM could be still calculating.... perhaps struggling to adjust? (I too hope it is not a critical bug.)
    I'm afraid my reply doesn't help solve the mystery of 478.0GB. Hope someone else can.
    Best of luck!

    This should NOT work!  The UI elements should safe encode all input values - thereby eliminating the value of any HTML tags. If you system isn't doing this already then it is a bug and if you rely on such a thing it will stop working at some point in the future.
    You are basically restricted to different values available via the design parameter.  The overall font sizes come from the underlying themes and the client applications (browser or NetWeaver Business Client) that host the Web Dynpro Application.  Therefore no direct specification of the font size is possible in order to stay within the controls of theme.  If you don't like any of the designs available, you might consider altering the Portal Theme you are using - but that is a rather drastic approach.

  • Folder size/calculation

    This is a two parter:
    The problem has to do with obtaining the size of a folder's contents when viewing the contents of a folder. It would be nice to look down at the bottom of the folder window and see a display such as:
    Desktop/Pod Movies - 1.52GB (1,129,771,439), 4 files
    1. Is there a way within OSX 10.4.8 to display the size of the contents of a folder when the folder is opened without having to go to "get info" which is a kludge (and I know many would agree with me), or
    2. Is there a third party application or utility addon that can do the same thing? I have a third party application called "WhatSize" and it reports exactly what I want and need but I have to run it as a separate application (another kludge). It is monotonous and time consuming to have to keep opening little applications to do simple things. I have a 23" Apple HD Display and my dashboard is crammed with little apps that offer one feature.
    [Rant] I'm a bit disappointed that OSX doesn't come with all of these little useful things built right in ala (God forbid Windows or OS/2). With Windows you still have to jump a few hoops and Microsoft is known to actually steal such items from third party developers who can't fight back whereas with OS/2, IBM thought out the design first and then implemented it so when you open a folder the objects inside are sized and counted automatically for you at the bottom of the folder. (They may have done this because OS/2 had so few developers to begin with.)
    I'm really hoping Leopard addresses many of these small OSX shortcomings because in the long run, gathered together, they are a very big part of a successful OS. I know Apple is bright enough to see these small shortcomings. And they may keep them out on purpose to ensure the livelihoods of little developers but - enough already! I don't want the best OSX, I want an AMAZING OSX! [Rant end]

    Ahh now that does work but remains a kludge, i.e., you have to open the folder, select the four items (hold down shift select first file move to bottom of list and select last file to highlight all four at once) right mouse click, select "show inspector" and a separate window opens to reveal related information on the four files, including a full calculation of all four files.
    How many hoops did I have to jump through to get that calculated size information? 5 clicks of a mouse
    I want to jump through one hoop (perform one click): open the folder and see, in that bottom menu, the total amount of disk space all files in that folder are taking up.
    Now you may be asking yourself, why is this so important? I want to know the ongoing size of a particular folder because I don't want that folder to exceed 4Gig. Yet I find myself having to jump through all kinds of hoops everytime I add a file to a folder to see how much space all the files are taking up in that folder.
    Thanks for the time and effort.

  • Photoshop Elements 12 Back-up Freezing on Catalog Size Calculation

    My Photoshop Elements 12 reminds me that, given number of new images added, catalog should be backed-up. • Lot size calculation

    Helllo,
    We would like to use the Wilsons formula for calculating the optimal lot sizes. This is not possible with the lot sizing procedures SAP provides.
    Is there a way that I can create my own formula for calculating the optimum lot sizes?
    Kind regards,
    Rudy

    Hi,
    You can develop a period lot sizing procedure which has a larger period length than the planning horizon. For example, if the planning horizon is 999 days, develop a procedure for 36 months. You can copy the standart lot sizing procedure TB and change the period type and number of the periods. This way all planned orders that would be generated in that period will be combined into one.
    Regards.

  • Sizes calculated very slow????

    Don't know why but sizes are calculated very slow or sometimes not calculated at all or the size is calculated but dimmed (and wrong sometimes)

    If you are talking about Finder -> View -> Show View Options -> Calculate all Sizes, then the Finder needs to walk the directory tree looking at every file under the directory and subdirectories until it has looked at every file in the sub-directory-tree.  That is a lot of very slow disk I/O, unless you ahve a solid state disk.  It is also hard on the disk, so unless you really need to know (like trying to clean up unused storage), it is best to leave this option turned off.
    And if you are trying to find where all your storage went, then try OmniDiskSweeper, ONLY be very careful about deleting stuff NOT under you home directory, as you may end up disabling your system if you delete essential system files which you do not normally see.

  • DSSetHSzClr - memory size calculation

    Hi, I am trying to change the size of the array of clusters inside the DLL. In the C code, the array of clusters is defined:
    typedef struct {
    int32_t dimSize;
    double Item[1];
    } DataArray;
    typedef DataArray **DataArrayPtr;
    typedef struct {
    LStrHandle Name;
    LStrHandle String;
    double Type;
    DataArrayPtr Data;
    } Cluster;
    typedef struct {
    int32_t dimSize;
    Cluster Variable[1];
    } Buffer;
    typedef Buffer **BufferPtr;
     In the FP, the array of cluster looks :
    I would like to add lets say one new item to the cluster array by using the DSSetHSzClr function described e.g. here . I am trying to follow the instruction on Lava link, however, I am not able to calculate the correct size of the new memory block. Could anyone help me to do it and explain the solution ...
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I'm not sure what you mean with the memory for the handler that should be allocated. You need to allocate simply a handle that has space for the initial int32_t dimSize plus any data that the handle is supposed to contain.
    As to your next problem if you pass in a default cluster from LabVIEW or increased the array of clusters by one or more elements, the according handles in the cluster will be NULL which is a valid handle for LabVIEW indicating an empty array or string. But the memory manager functions for resizing handles can not work on NULL handles. A little source code level debugging would have shown you that easily.
    And your code to first dispose the handle and then trying to resize it is totally wrong anyways. You can't resize a non-existing handle at all. It has to be allocated properly first before you can attempt to resize it.
    Instead you have to create them rather than resize them. You can do that explicitedly yourself in a similar way as follows:
    if ((*var)->String == NULL)
        (*var)->String = DSNewHClr(sizeof(int32_t) + size);
        if ((*var)->String == NULL)
             err = mFullErr;
    else
        err = DSSetHSzClr((*var).String, sizeof(int32_t) + sizeof(uChar) * size);
    if (err)
        return err;
    MoveBlock(source, LStrBuf(*((*var).String)), size);
    LStrLen(*((*var).String)) = size;
    or you can let the LabVIEW memory manager do the calculation for you:
    err = NumericArrayResize(uB, 1, (UHandle*)&((*var)->String), size);
    if (err)
        return err;
    MoveBlock(source, LStrBuf(*((*var).String)), size);
    LStrLen(*((*var).String)) = size;
    If you want to add an extra NULL character then you can of course do so in the call to DSNewHClr(), DSSetHSzClr() or NumericArrayResize().
    Most of the errors you are now doing are however simply standard C errors and have little to do with LabVIEW specific issues, so the question arises if this is maybe a little to complicated to get going. While you can do quite well in LabVIEW with limited knowledge and in the worst case you simply get a wrong result, C programming is a lot more demanding. One byte of can mean a working solution or something that constantly crashes and worse yet it can work 1000 times seemingly right and then crash suddenly, preferably after you finished the whole development and deployed the final result to a remote location on the other side of earth.

  • Sample Size calculation for a Inspection Lot

    Dear SAP Gurus,
    I have one doubt regarding Sample calculation for Inspection lot. Please give your inputs on this.
    The sceanrio is like this -
    1. A Quality Plan is created with one operation (operation # 0010)
    2. To this operation 0010 in the quality plan, 2 MICs are assigned.
    3. For the 1st MIC, a 100 % inspection sampling procedure is assigned.
    4. For the 1st MIC, a sampling procedure with Percentage sample (Sampling type - 400) is assigned.
    My question is - When inspection lot is created after GR from purchase order, which sampling procedure will be used to calculate the Sample size that we see in QA03 under Sample tab?
