DB statistics - Use of 'Construct Database Statistics ' in process chain

Hello,
I would like to know the differences (or is it complementar ?) between:
- using Business content Statistics cubes + Tools / BW statistics for infoproviders
- variant 'Construct Database Statistics' that can be used in process chains
Have the 2 techniques to be used together ?
Thanks in advance,
Regards

Hi Thomas,
Statistics should get loaded in the Business content Statistics cubes .........now by using the process type 'Construct Database Statistics' we can automate the process............actually ...........The DB Statistics options for the InfoCube allow to collect current DB statistics about the tables associated with the InfoCube............the collection of statistics can be automated.........

  • When to use the "construct database statistics" process chain' item

    Hello, everybody.
    Information 1:
In our BW system we have a job from DBA guys that build statistcs for the entire database. This job runs every day in the dawn.
    Information 2:
In several process chain flows, we use the item "Construct Database Statistics" to update the statistics after cube upload.
    Information 3:
I checked the log from both jobs and found several tables analyzed in first and second cases.
    The question:
Is this step inside the process chain unnecessary? Exist any situation when this step is useful?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Construct Database Statistics - Oracle

At the moment I havent included a construct DB statistics step in my process chain. The three cubes are all loading more than a million records each time. But ive been told that as we are running on an Oracle database so I dont have to / or there is no benefit to this step. Is that true? Possibly due to something called BRCONNECT?

    Hi Sriram,
Calculating DB stat is probably mandatory  on any DB. You can use either the DB stat component in your process chain or the BR tool. SAP recommands to calculate the stat with this last tool (it calculates stats on all your db tables and not only the cube tables and have a lot of options).
More info on the BRCONNECT command :

  • Constructing Database Statistics

When and where should I use Database Statistics?  I'm trying to improve overall system performance.  Are there any cons to running this process?
    Thank You All.

Yes BRCONNECT will collect DB stas on the tables as it determines appropriate based on monitoring criteria which actaull allows for DB stats to be refreshed based on some % of rows added to the table (default is 50%) since the last time stats were collected.
The Traffic light status of the performance tab simply checks to see if DB stats are missing on a fact or dimension table, setting the status to RED.  If the E fact table stats are more than 30 days old or 4 or more dimension table's stat are more than 30 days old, the status is set to yellow.  So yellow could mean your stats are really pretty accurate, or disastrously out of date.
I'd bring your DBA into the discussion so determeine the best course of action.
You can set the stats collection job in the performance tab to run automatically based on loads/deltas, or you could schedule the job to occur perhaps on weekends.  Better yet, setup a process chain to do it.  The main issue is probably whether you have time in your daily load window to refresh the stats.
If you set the option to collect stats after a load/delta, stats are only collected on teh F fact table and the dimension tables.  If you run the job yourself or schedule it, it will collect stats on both the F and E fact tables, the dimension tables, and all related master data tables.

  • Statistics technical content activation issue with MD process chain in BI7

    Hi,
Let me give you history of the issue first.
I had to activate the Statistics in BI7. I followed the SAP Note 965386 and activated the Technical Content.
Faced activation issues in MD process chain, Content Master Data-0TCT_MD_C_FULL_P01. It dint get activated, Followed the SAP note 1065919, which asked me to remove the below process from RSPC and activate it.
Load data- Process Variant Attribute and
    Load data- Process Variant Text.
I did the same and it got activated after removing them.
Issue is. Later knew that manually activating the Process chain from Content would have activated those Infopackages aswell.
Now how should I get those processes into the chain and activate? Based on your suggestions, I can let you know what all I have been trying to fix it?
    Relying on you for solution.
    Thanks
    Pavan

    Thank You Neethika,
I have this issue solved. I replicated the data sources, activated those infoPackages manually and then added those variants into the process chain manually. So my MD chain now has all the necessary process.
Now i need to schedule them and see if it runs with out any errors. I will keep this thread open till i run it to take your help if i get any errors while running them.
    Thanks
    Pavan

  • Using 'export to database' in background processing

If i call a Function Module in Background will i be able to  Export values to Database ?
    like:
CALL FUNCTION 'func_name' IN BACKGROUND TASK TABLES table = table1.
    and in FM:
    EXPORT <one> FROM <two> TO DATABASE indx(some) ID 'some1'.
I am only able to export if i dont use the background processing.
    thanks
Edited by: shalaxy s on Feb 10, 2009 3:18 PM

    Hi Shalaxy,
Calling Function Module in Background/Update Task is normally used for bundling techniques where your requirement is to execute all the database updates in single database LUW (Logical Unit of Work) in order to maintain data integrity. All your database updates gets successfull or none of them.
If you call FM in Background Task, it is not executed immediatly, it is registered with all its values and executed only when COMMIT WORK statement is executed.
I think there is no explicit COMMIT WORK statement in your code and that is why you are not able to see effect of EXPORT TO DATABASE statement as LUW is not at all initiated.
I feel, as your requirement is only to suppress the ALV output, you should handle it through some other alternative e.g. using parameter or something like that and If function module you are talking about is Z and you are willing to change it.

  • Problem with Construct DB Statistics varaint in Process Chain.

    Hi Experts,
I try to create a variant Construct DB Statistics over Info Cube. my PC is as follows:
    1. Start
    2. Delete Index
    3. Load data into Info Cube (Full Load).
    4. Create Index
    5. Construct DB Statistics
    6. Delete Overlapping Requests from InfoCube  .
I got the error message: No type "Delete Index" process can be in front of process "Construct Database Statistics" variable XXXXX  in the chain
I* While  creating the  variant construct DB Statistics shall I take the object type as Info Cube  or  Info Package?*
Because when I use the InfoPackage   as the Object Type  I won't get any error message.
    I need the clarification that:
Shall we Construct the DB Statistics over Info Cube or  over the Info package?
    Any suggestions please.
    Thanks & Regards

We had the same problem.  This had to do with a support package.  Implement note 1122289 or BI Patch 17 (SAPKW70017).  This solved our problem.

  • Using events in Process chain

    Hi All,
    I have below scenario:
Now we are using event collecter and subsequent event in event collector .
I am going to convert my loads into Process chain from Infopackage groups. My problem is I can use event1 directly in Start of process chain but how to trigger event2 using this chain. I need to trigger event2 once my PC is completed successfully. The even2 will trigger a background job to execute one ABAP program. This ABAP program triggers event1 again if it meets certain requirement.
    Hope you understood my problem.
    Thanks in advance
    Vani

    Hi,
    If I have understood properly,
Event1(Start) --> Sequence of PC steps --> ABAP Program Process Type (To trigger Event2)  --> Event2 triggers again Event1( If meets requirement)
What is your End of the Process Chain if it triggers again Event1?
Why do you want to trigger events in a cyclic way?

I am unable to figure out what exactly this one.
Please help me to resovle this one.
    Points will be definitely assigned.

    Hi Vasu,
Try to create a new Infopackage instead of using the Generated Infopackage in ur process chain.
    This will resolve ur issue.
    Thanks

  • Use ABAP code in "Decision Between Multiple Alernativesu201D in process chain

Hi, does anybody know if it is possible to include ABAP code in formula definition when using u201CDecision Between Multiple Alernativesu201D in process chain.
I wanted to read a specific parameter from one table in order to choose the next step in the process chain.
If it is not possible, do you any workaround?
    Best regards,
    João Arvanas

Hey.  You could create your own custom formula which you would code.  Then that formula is reuseable in the formula builder.  That should get you where you need to be.
Here is a document on how to implement the custom formulas:

  • Starting process chains using RSPC_API_CHAIN_START(parallel execution of processes)

    Hi,
We've got sap bw 3.5 installed.
We are using API RSPC_API_CHAIN_START to start executing process chains.
IF we are using param I_SYNCHRONOUS = 'X'  then if we have parallel processes in chains they are executing one by one.
IF we are setting param I_SYNCHRONOUS = ''   then proccesses are executed in parallel. But I recieved all the prompts. For example for chosing background server.
    and others.
Is there an opportunity to combine these 2 cases: not to have prompts and execute processes in parallel?
    Thanks for you help
    Andrey

    Hi,
I tried without I_SYNCHRONOUS param, it works the same as I_SYNCHRONOUS = ''. I recieve all the promts.
    Thanks for you help.

  • Same Variant used multiple times in a process chain

Hi, I just noticed that you cannot use the same variant in a process chain twice!  You have create a duplicate variant in order to.
Example:  I need to activate my ODS at 2 different points in my process chain and it's not supported.  Why would they force me to create a whole other variant just for this.  Don' t you think we should be able to use the same variant more than once in a chain?

    Steps for Metachain :
    1. Start ( In this variant set ur schedule times for this metachain )
2.Local Process Chain 1 ( Say its a master data process chain - Get into the start variant of this chain ( Sub chain - like any other chain ) and check the second radio button " Start using metachain or API " )

  • Resolution to error - Unable to update Database Statistics

OK, If there's one thing i hate most about SAP, its the dreaded installation, I am always so paranoid, as to something will definitely go wrong,
Lately i realized that it aint my mind , but the damn installation itself is pretty damn stupid. Why cant SAP leave the installation packaging to professionals like installshield...
Unfortunately SAP doesnt think of it as a better idea, so until then lets try to resolve as many errors as possible thru these forums..
Here's one error resolution ,i am pretty sure, many are checking for..
Use the following procedure to resolve error
<b>Warning - "loading of sql client library oci.dll failed"
Error - Unable to update Database Statistics, Check BRCONNECT.log</b>
The problem seems to be with the SAP Patch Collection InstallMaster disc Material No.(<b>51032143_13</b>).
To resolve the problem, here's what needs to be done,
1)Install DB Instance as usual. Then after the installation errors out due to loading of sql
    client library oci.dll ..
2)I unsar the downloaded DBATOOLS.sar (Thanks for the Link Andreaz!!!)
log into sapnet (eg. service.sap.com) with your user-id/pwd:
-> downloads -> support packages and patches -> entry by application group -> additional
components -> sap kernel -> now chose either 32 or 64 bit; either unicode or non-unicode ->
sap kernel 6.40 -> windows server -> oracle -> download the package DBATOOLS Package for
Oracle 9.2.x ... brconnect is part of that package...
3)Copy the files in the Unsar'd package, as follows
         overwrite br*.exe to S:\usr\sap\R31\SYS\exe\run
         overwrite initSID.sap to S:\usr\sap\R31\SYS\exe\run &
    S:\usr\sap\R31\SYS\exe\nuc\NTI386
         overwrite libsbt.dll to S:\usr\sap\R31\SYS\exe\run &
    S:\usr\sap\R31\SYS\exe\nuc\NTI386
         overwrite sapdba_role.sql to S:\usr\sap\R31\SYS\exe\run &
    S:\usr\sap\R31\SYS\exe\nuc\NTI386
    4) Retry the installation again & Guess what!! it works....
Warning-: I initially tried a shortcut by replacing DBATOOLS.sar on the installmaster disc, rather than following above steps, but that doesnt seem to work, the installation fails as as soon as Tablespace creation starts. So the shortcut aint a good one..

Well, it looks like you resolved your problem yourself.
you can send feedback to SAP directly instead of posting this here in a forum.

the above is one of the post upgrade step for 11gR2. How can i find statistics tables in my database?

You need to read the complete context of this manual upgrade step:

Upgrade Statistics Tables Created by the DBMS_STATS Package
If you created statistics tables using the DBMS_STATS.CREATE_STAT_TABLE procedure, then upgrade these tables by executing the following procedure:

In the example, 'SYS' is the owner of the statistics table and 'dictstattab' is the name of the statistics table. Execute this procedure for each statistics table. You need to do this step for any statistics table that you created manually with DBMS_STATS.CREATE_STAT_TABLE.
