DB Time much higher compared to (Elapsed time * CPU)

11.2.0.2 on Linux x86 64-bit, Single Instance
AWR shows
CPUs : 16
Cores : 8
Sockets : 2
Begin Snap: 10-Jan-12 01:00:17
End Snap: 10-Jan-12 02:00:40
Elapsed: 60.38 (mins)
DB Time: 1,627.47 (mins)
My understanding is that (Elapsed * CPUs) is an upper bound for DB Time. DB Time is much higher though (60.38 * 16 = 966.08).

Databases are rarely single user systems.
My understanding is that (Elapsed * CPUs) is an upper bound for DB TimeNo, this isn't correct. That's the maximum CPU time you have.
DB_TIME gives you the amount of time spent by active sessions actively working or actively waiting.
DB_TIME/ELAPSED_TIME gives you a figure of Average Active Sessions - i.e. on average you have 26 active sessions over this period.
If you think about it, if you have a 60 minute report and you have 1 user actively working or actively waiting, your elapsed time would be 60 minutes, maximum cpu time on 16 cpus is 960 minutes your db time would be 60 minutes.
Double the number of active users to 2, elapsed time still 60 minutes, max cpu time still 960 minutes, db time 120.
Double the number of active users to 4, elapsed time still 60 minutes, max cpu time still 960 minutes, db time 240.
Mulitply the number of active by 10 to 40, elapsed time still 60 minutes, max cpu time still 960 minutes, db time 2400.
Of course, you're unlikely to have 40 users who are constantly active for 60 minutes, but you get the picture.

  • Another one with much higher BB usage than normal

    Hi,
This is probably going to sound familiar to lots of people, but we also are recording much higher BB usage than normal. We are only on the 10gb package, as our max 512kb broadband doesn't make it worthwhile trying to do much with the www.
Our usage is usually pretty close to the 10gb, and in fact we have probably gone over it 3 or 4 times in the last 2 years (I work away a lot, so Skype gets hammered, which I know could be up to about 350mb/hour). Our average usage has been 9.87gb according to BT. I was home at the end of June, and decided to reactivate BT FON, and my wife and I also installed the Smarttalk app. Now, halfway through July, we are already up at over 7gb used.
The warning e-mail for 6gb used was last night, the usage monitor is already showing over 7gb - that is a heck of a lot of broadband usage for a property with such a slow connection. I have tried tackling BT in the past, and got absolutely nowhere, being told that although they could give me details of the previous weeks usage, they couldn't go back any further because that informaton was unavailable - unsatisfactory response, but that was all I could get.
Obviously BT are saying we could always go unlimited, but I'd rather find out what the issue is and why this sudden increase - we aren't using that much internet.

Got the same problem, see my seperate Post.
Don't wish to hi-jack your post but how can BT be tackeled?
It's hard to keep a daily check, I would say impossible!

  • Track levels suddenly much higher than normal. ?!?!?

    Need some help friends... I have a problem that I can't seem to fix;
When I boot up an existing song or project, the levels shown on most of my tracks are peaking but the sound isn't clipping. The faders were all well below zero normally but for some reason now the levels are much higher and in the red. Why? The whole song sounds the same as far as I can tell but the levels shown on the faders are all much, much higher! The only way to reduce them is to remove the compression and other plugins from the track but I need a way to just restore the original levels...
Many thanks in advance for any suggestions,
If you need any info - please ask - i really want to sort this out asap.
    Acoma

So how come BeeJay gets a "Helpful" and I do not when I am the one who correctly diagnosed the problem? Sheesh!
That's 'cos I'm much prettier than you!
Er, no, wait... the other thing...
(In any case, when I saw the original question, I left it for you to answer as you are the chief PFM-advocate around here... )

  • Why does the flash video have much higher contrast when the window is maximized?

When using Mozilla Firefox, any flash videos like those on youtube, when maximized, shows much higher contrast. The video becomes so dark that it is pretty difficult to view it. When zoomed out, everything looks normal.
The work around I ended up using, was to maximize the window using ctrl++ option without using the "fullscreen" button. It is a hassle, but it works. Does anyone know why this happens?
I use Mozilla FF 19.0.2. Btw, this doesn't happen on Chrome or IE.

  • Comparing two elapsed timer readings

    Hi everyone,
I'm a new user of Labview, so I'm teaching myself as I go along really. I've come up against a problem though. I'm trying to compare two timer readings from elapsed timers. Eventually I am hoping to swap these timers for a pair of light beams inputted through a DAQ chassis. Initially though I wanted to get the content of my program correct, without having to have the equipment connected to my laptop.
I have attached my progress so far, apologies if my query has an obvious solution. As I say I'm a bit of an beginner! How would I take the two elasped timers log the times found off the timers, compare which one has a greater value and consequently start a new timer depending on this. I would then like to log this time in data form.
I've tried to compare the two elasped timers with greater than booleans etc but I cant seem to get it to work?
As I say I hope to use this idea in a time gate sort of application where depending on which light beam is broken first depends on which timer is started. Hope my explanation is clear.
    Any help is much appreciated,
    Thanks very much!

    PT-
Looking at your code you have a few problems that you will need to address.  Read the LabVIEW help section titled "Caveats and Recommendations when Using Events in LabVIEW."  You have some latching booleans controls that are incorrectly placed.  The terminals should be in the event case that handles the value change event.
Why two event structures?  One structure is a better Idea you can handle all your events with 1 loop (and avoid stopping the loops independantly- this can lead to a condition where the vi becomes unresponsive.
The lower loop compares the start times to two different timestamps.  This is introducing potential errors since there is timing relationship between the calls to the system timer.  and the lower case structures are rather insane- in english they resolve to "if started return how long its been since started else return 0"  Check the NI website there is a CLD practice exam solution (Car Wash) that has a pretty good example and discussion of using the elapsed timer express vi.  It might point you in a better direction than where you are going.
Why not use the time terminals in the event structure?  thats the time the event fired.  But, you might want the time the event was handled I don't Know-  (hint-comment your code and write SOMETHING in the vi documentation.  Eventually you'll be writing more complex code so start developing good habits now)  (good habits--)
Come on back when you've looked at some of the examples and I'ld be glad to help you more.

  • 24"iMAC panel much higher quality than 23" Acd, its the same as Samsung ?

    Hi!
According to my research on 24" LCD panels, they almost all use samsungs S-PVA screen, including 244t, Dell 2407WFP , Acer, HP, etc etc..
I notice a huge jump in quality compared to the 20" or 23" ACD, mainly due to the lack of grainy/sparkly/video noise/screen door type layer of the former screens.
Can you confirm that this is indeed a samsung panel?
The ACD's are LG's on IPS.
Well whatever it is, I can't believe how wonderful this display looks, its the first time I can say that a display can replace a CRT. And its much sharper to boot.
I found an almost undying similarity to the 244t by Samsung, and I'm interested in getting that to accompany my MAC pro.

I just came to my local Apple dealer to get help and they have never encountered this before. Questions they asked that made it less clear for them; they were shot in jpeg and I have exported using every setting all yielding the same results.
This sounds to be a software issue and I encourage Apple's staff to investigate it.

  • TS3274 I purchesed a new Ipad Air on the 23rd Jan, I have been travelling so not given it much use compared wit the old one but I noticed the battery was running down even though it was in sleep mode. Lat night it was on 58% charge, this morning i had a l

I have a new Ipad Air and have noticed everytime I open the screen the charge has reduced. over night it dropped from 58% to below 10 with a low battery warning.
The screen was asleep, cellular switched off, Bluetooth on for the keyboard. all setting infact the same as my last model which performed excellently.
Anyone know why its losing its charge so quickly. it also sems very slow to recharge also, in one hr its gained a 12% charge.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. But on Arch Linux, I run the latest i7z-git, I got these information:
    Cpu speed from cpuinfo 2693.00Mhz
cpuinfo might be wrong if cpufreq is enabled. To guess correctly try estimating via tsc

CPU can only run at 2.7Ghz (or higher in turbo model), and Core Voltage is 0.89 v. Tha fan is very noisy.
I try many method in CPU power saving, but can not find the solution. Is there any diffierent in power management between Linux and windows?

    Gusar wrote:

How exactly? That was my question. Just the voltage report? Or do you actually notice something is not right, like shorter battery life? Different tools could possibly measure things differently. Try turbostat, it's in AUR.
Fan management can also be unrelated to actual power consumption. I've wondered before whether pstate, because it works differently, is confusing whatever is responsible for controlling the fans. What brand of laptop do you have? Post the output of lsmod.
And again, just because a tool says the frequency is at 2700MHz, does not mean the processor is actually at that frequency! It is not most of the time.
    Thank you for your help.
I am using dell M4800 laptop which have a 97Wh battery.  Mainly browing web page and typing some documents. In windows, its battery can last for 5 hours.  In linux, it can only last 3 hours.
I am also trying to find more evidence to compare the power consuming between these two platforms. I understand your meaning. It is hard to fairly compare these two environment. I am strill trying to find more information.

  • Why is my CPU usage in quicktime on 10.5 so high compared to XP?

I have a 2.0 Ghz mac mini with the GMA950 and a windows XP machine at work with a 2.1 Ghz core 2 duo and the GMA950 also. When I play one quicktime HD movie I have on the mac it uses about 150-175% out of 200% of the cpu but when I play the same file on the XP machine it uses about 30% out of 200% Why is that since they both have the same GPU and almost the same CPU?

The answer is simple I'll tell you.
Because QuickTime for Windows doesn't need to consider much as it in Mac one, if you spent time on Windows you probably found it will crash other programs and even freeze the whole PC, because software in Windows doesn't care each other, they don't know each other, fine! But they don't CARE each other EITHER! That is what Windows all about! So the program can use less CPU power.
But QuickTime for Mac is quite different, QuickTime in Mac considers integrated operation. It will coordinate with other programs in Mac OS perfectly, so you can watch QuickTime movie in four space while click F8 simultaneous, something like that, you got what I mean? But you can NOT do that in any Windows system, not Windows 95/98/XP, even Windows Vista can NOT do that. Guess what? Only a Mac CAN do that.
So, who cares about the usage % of CPU? That's what a CPU born to be so.
Why bothered? You should be happy you have a Mac, not Windows, Windows will never learn its lesson. All you just forgot, Windows is just a complex fat boy copying Mac OS all the time!

  • Number of Records Loaded for 2LIS_02_HDR much higher than expected

Hi, I just did a setup for 2LIS_02_HDR and in table EKKO has 1.2 million and in bw it looks like it is loading well over 6 million right now.  Is this because the HDR collects up detail information for header aggregation?  Even with that I don't expect 6 million records.
Any ideas?  I'm fairly certain I put in all the right parameters in my setup load!  Any way to check?
    thanks!

    Hi,
    please check following :
    1. setup most not be filled repeatdly.... in case if its filled multiple times it wil give u higher no. of records than expected. Kindly check in number of entries in table "MC11VA0HDRSETUP".
    2. If records are higher than expected than please delete data for application 02 using tcode LBWG and refill it.
    Thanks

  • Mileage display is much higher than audible mileage??

So ever since I update my Nano w/video to 1.0.2 something bizarre has started happening.
When I look at the screen on the nano it will tell me something insanely high, let's say 6 miles.
When I press the center button the lovely voice tells me the accurate mileage, usually about half.
When I get home and sync it shows my last run in iTunes as the higher mileage, but on the Nike+ website it displays the correct mileage.
    Bizarre....

I am experiencing the same exact problem. The reading on the screen is ~ 1.6 times the true mileage covered, but the pace & times are correct and when you upload the data to nikeplus it uploads the correct data. This all started after I upgraded to 1.0.2, it immediately changed all the stored readings in the history by a fatcor of 1.6!
Is there a fix or do we just wait for the next nano 2nd gen update?

  • Why are my bills much much higher then I was told ?

On Dec 8th 2011 I was on line with Verizon and ordered a triple play for $54.99
which included Internet phone and DirectTV with 210 channels and DVR   all for $54.99
And they said that my forst bill would be $115.48 and ther after it will be $73.99
so why is verizon charging me $93.99 for triple play and then a bunch of different amounts that total up to $185.59 for DirectTv AND OTHER CHARGES  TOTALLY UP TO $429.32  why?
If you want me to go by my agreement with your company then why am I being charged other amounts
that are different then what I originally agreed to on Dec 8th 2011
    all for on $73.99
    nothing more
So how can I get this issue resolved
I AM DEAF  AND IT'SIER TO READ THEN LISDTEN TO ON PHONE

Generally I would not use Facebook for sharing any photos, it compresses the photos substantially, and when you have shadows and dark colours you get visible "bands" where there should be subtle gradients, ie at sunsets and sunrises.
It sounds like you are using two methods to upload to Facebook:
    1. Sharing from within Aperture, which basically syncs Facebook with your Aperture album, so any changes made at either end gets synced, hence the deletions from Albums, although the original file should still be in your library, just removed rom the album. It is like a playlist in iTunes.
    2. Exporting pics and uploading to Facebook from the browser.
I am not sure how method 1 gets compressed, but I know that uploading hi-res jpegs to Facebook using method 2 results in poor quality images.
I wouldn't even bother comparing option 1 or 2, and they will both be poor images once you view them on Facebook, as opposed to viewing uploaded images on proper image sharing / hosting sites.
Your problem is not with Aperture, it is using Facebook for showing your work.
If you export pics form Aperture at high res jpegs or TIFFs your images will be fine.
If you insist to use Facebook as your way to share your work, then your workflow should be this:
    1. Right click images you want to share.
    2. Select Export version.
    3. Export as 100% size and ensure the export settings are set at 100% quality.
    4. Upload this pic into Facebook.
This will get you the best image size and resolution on Facebook.
    See how you go.

  • PE 13: Upload to Youtube performance much worse compared with Premiere Elements 10

Since a week I have premiere Elements 13 purchased and installed and the first experience after creating three movies and uploading them to youtube is that I am thinking of going back to PE version 10. Uploading of a movie of 5 minutes takes more than 70 minutes!! In premiere Elements 10 it was much faster (approx.10-15 minutes. I have broadband glassfiber connection (just tested speed:90MB/s)
It seems an authentication/firewall kind of protocol is unacceptably slowing down the upload to youtube.
What could I do in settings to improve speed?
    Kind regards, Fred

    Fred
What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 running on? Same one as Premiere Elements 10?
Have you ever run Premiere Elements 10 on the same computer as 13 for YouTube comparisons with the same upload content?
You seem to have found the cause of the problem since you wrote
It seems an authentication/firewall kind of protocol is unacceptably slowing down the upload to youtube.
What is your evidence for that? And, where do you believe the firewall to be in your computer operating system, buried with the authorization process of the Premiere Elements feature, or other?
With your present Premiere Elements 13 Timeline content and export to file, do you find faster uploading to YouTube at the YouTube web site
as compared to uploading the file with that same content to YouTube from within the Premiere Elements 13 feature?

  • SP2013 On Premise - Site Collection says it has reached its size quota, but its specified quota is much higher. How should I fix this?

    Hi,
We have an on-premise SharePoint 2013 environment.  We set the mysite quota up to 500 meg.  However, some of the mysites are getting up to 100 meg, and then giving an error message saying that the quota has been met.  Has anyone ever run into
this issue before?  I'd really appreciate some advice on this one.
    Thanks. =)

Yes, In central admin, I can see the site is 100 meg, and there isn't anything in the recylcing bin, as well.  But, I think I found the answer here: http://www.sharepointwendy.com/2012/07/updating-quota-template-doesnt.html
Basically, updating the template does not update the quota on the sites that are already using the template.  You have to set those sites' to use the templates they are using...again.
    I'm testing this now.
    Cheers!
Edit: yup, this was it!  After the site template is updated, the sites that already use the template at that time, also need to be updated!
