[email protected]Hi,
i think It seems to be a cause of incorrect authorizations/roles. Please check the following two methods
1)Make sure that directory or executables like SAPDBA,
BRBACKUP, BRARCHIVE, BRRESTORE, BRRECOVER, BRCONNECT
and BRTOOLS have correct authorizations
Please refer the snote: 113747.
2)Run the sapdaba role to update the proper authorizations
Oracle 10g: sqlplus /nolog @sapdba_role <SID>
you can get it from \usr\sap\<SID>\SYS\exe\run folder

I am not able to restore spfile from rman backup ;;;Hi,
I would like to know few things
1. How are you setting the db_name ? you can set db_id at RMAN, how are you setting the db_name ?
2. Do you have any default init file at default location ? if yes, is the db_name parameter set correctly in that file ?
Since spfile is yet to be restored, you must set the db_name parameter correctly before you start spfile restore.This can be done with init file at default location which can even contain just one paremeter i.e db_name. -
How to check for archivelog backup on a particular date or time?
Dear All,
We have RMAN full database, cumulative and archivelog backup(eg location: Diskgroup A) scheduled on a regular period basis. Assume archivelog location is Diskgroup B. The diskgroup B became full and unable to archive further, since no space. Unable to connect to database, connect internal only until freed error. alert log also shows that archiver error. So the solution for this to clear some space in diskgroup B by removing some old archive logs. In our environment, everyday the archive logs are stored in a separated folder arranged in date wise. I can do that . But before clearing some space, i need to make sure that the folder( or any date folder what im going to delete) is backed up or not. How to check that? Any idea please?
eg: i have archivelogs like this in folders
01_11_2013/
02_11_2013/
03_11_2013/
04_11_2013/
05_11_2013/
06_11_2013/
If i want to remove the folder 01_11_2013/( and its contents ie archivelogs) , how to check whether the archivelogs in this folder 01_11_2013/ is backed up or not?

Which begs the question .. why is the FRA getting filled in the first place? Is it seriously undersized? Are you not doing regular housekeeping with rman 'delete obsolete' and 'backup archivelog delete input' -
Hi,
We have oracle 10.2.0.2 database which is being backed up online daily, we want to have minimum loss of data in case of complete media failure (including Control/Redo/Datafiles & Archivelogs).
CRD files are in one ASM diskgroup and Archivelogs are in FRA which is in another ASM diskgroup.
Both the diskgroups are having Normal redundancy, God forbids if complete media failure happens and loss of all CRD & Archivelogs, then we have to rely only on backup for the recovery process, but we have scheduled full online backup at night, and if we have a DB crash at 2 PM then we need to recover until that time, but we will not be having archivelogs which were after the online backup, so we want to schedule periodic archivelog backups for minumum loss of data.
I know that complete recovery will not happen if you lose Controlfile & Current redolog file, but by taking backup of archivelogs we will minimize the data loss.
To achieve this I tried to run the backup commands as below.
backup format 'orcl_%s:%t:%p>.dbf' archivelog not backed up 1 times; is not working.
RMAN> run {
allocate channel 'dev_0' type disk
sql 'alter system archive log current';

RMAN - Is it possible to run Archivelog Backup while Full backup is running
Hi,
Our full database backups runs daily in the night. It fails whenever an archivelog backup kicks off. This happens on our big databases where backups run for long hours and we have to run the archivelog backup to backup/delete the archivelogs to maintain the archivelog destinations.
Is there any way to run these 2 backups in parallel without both failing. We use RMAN catalog to take backups, and we get errors when resyncing of catalog happens during backup.
We get these errors:-
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ===============
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-03008: error while performing automatic resync of recovery catalog
RMAN-20033: control file sequence# too low
and sometimes
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ===============
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-03008: error while performing automatic resync of recovery catalog
ORA-00230: operation disallowed: snapshot control file enqueue unavailable
Our archivelog destinations are not big enough to hold more than 1 days of logs and we have backups that runs for 30 hours. We have to backup and delete the archivelogs in between, while the full backup is running and right now its failing with able errors. Is there any solution or workaround I can opt for in this scenario.
Any help is Highly appreciated. Thanks in advance for the Help.
Thanks,
VishYour primary issue is SPACE. Allocate sufficient space to keep at a MINIMUM 4 days worth of archivelogs ONLINE.
Use multiple channels
you will need to test your system to see where you get optimal throughput.
Use compression
you will need to test your system to see where you get optimal throughput.
Use disk-disk backups (and sweep to tape later)...
If RAC, 11gR2 - consider ACFS (stored in ASM as well as OS accessible).
Anything less and you could be issuing the command "alter dba update resume".
Database management is not something that should be approached lightly... If you don't have the resources - maybe you need to trim the data or if the business requires that data volume, then the business needs to allocate sufficient resources to stay in business. Catastrophic database failures and the businesses ignorance on the importance of their data is a huge contributor business failures. At one point (not sure of the latest figures) if a business suffered such a data loss, they rarely stayed in business for more than a year.
Storage is MUCH cheaper and the proper configuration and allocation of those resources than a company failure.

Dear all,

I have tried few option such as insert new tape for backup, select format option etc but problem is still same.
Please could you people give me any suggestion to resolve this problem.

The step failed.As for renaming your working catalog, I could have sworn there was an option for it.. however, I can't find it...
So you have a few options here. First, you could select all of your images, and then "Export as Catalog". Enter the new name and location, and wait or it to export everything. Just be sure NOT to check mark the "include negatives", or you'll duplicate all of your images!
The second way is to use the operating system to rename two files. Just browse to it's location (if you're not sure, use file->catalog settings to show you the current one and path to it). Make sure you have exited LR, then rename the file in the OS. There are two files you need to rename: catalog.lrcat, and catalog previews.lrdat.
MAKE SURE YOU SPELL THEM CORRECTLY! I.e., don't change the extensions. Just change the names. You can delete the previews.lrdat if you wish to recreate your preview files.
When you start LR again, it will ask you if you want to create a new catalog or browse to find one. Select browse, and browse down until you select your new catalog name. And you're done.
As for backing up, when you hit catalog settings, you'll find settings to backup your catalog. There isn't a name in that section, but when the backup actually starts (for example, pick "backup next time LR exits, and then exit LR) it will give you the opertunity to choose the location you want to back up the file to.

Hi all,
I am working on ECC 5.0 with oracle database & windows.
When I am trying to schedule full offline backup from DB13, the backup is getting terminated. But I am able to take full online backup from DB13 and also I am able to take full offline backup from brtools.

Thanks in advance
Regards
EshwarHi Eshwar,
oracle classify this as a generic protocol adapter error. In my experience it indicates that Oracle client does not know what instance to connect to or what TNS alias to use.
Possible Remedies:
If running on the server (or workstation) that is running the database (i.e. if the database is local to the machine) then try explicitly setting ORACLE_SID. e.g.
set ORACLE_SID=<sid>
and then try again. If this works then consider whether to make the change permanent by specifying it as a system variable.
(Possibly 8.1.5 and later:) If running on the server (or workstation) that is running the database then check that the service name OracleService<SID> ties up with the actual database SID. If the database SID is changed without recreating the service then this can lead to this error. To recreate the service:
oradimxx -delete -sid <old-sid>
oradimxx -new -sid <SID> -intpwd <internal-password> AUTO -pfile <full-init-ora-filename>
Try setting the environment variable LOCAL to the required connection alias (typically the database SID) and then try again. (I am informed that for UNIX systems the environment variable TWO_TASK should instead be used.) Do be sure that the application that is being used picks up the new environment variable setting. Setting this to an invalid connection alias will typically produce ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name.
Ignore the error and try connecting by specifying explicitly which connection alias to use.
Check that the network connection between the client computer and the server has not failed. From the client try pinging the server.
if helpful reward points are appreciated -

SachinHi Sachin ,
Though sometimes ORA-12638 can be resolved by restarting the database services in cases where Oracle on Windows is being used, although for this user it was not helpful.
However, the following direction was given, and once administered, was a successful resolution to ORA-12638:
Please check the sqlnet.ora file. Change the following entry and try, this will work.
Original Entry - SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
Modified Entry - SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NONE)
Hope this might help you mate .

Recovery doesn't see old archivelog backups
I am doing weekly full backups
backup
as compressed backupset
channel=disk1
full
database
include current controlfile
plus archivelog
delete all input;
Point-in-time recovery worked fine using:
set until scn $1 ;
restore database;
recover database delete archivelog;
release channel c1;
alter database open resetlogs;
Untill today, when I tried recovering using backupset that is two weeks old.
Restore database worked fine. But media recovery failed with errors like this:
RMAN-03002: failure of recover command at 09/28/2006 21:06:58
RMAN-06053: unable to perform media recovery because of missing log
RMAN-06025: no backup of log thread 1 seq 10992 lowscn 200869768 found to restore
RMAN-06025: no backup of log thread 1 seq 10991 lowscn 200868902 found to restore
database recovery was unable to find archivelog backups.
What was confusing is that 'list backup' would show me the missing backups as available:
BS Key Size Device Type Elapsed Time Completion Time
1653 497.50K DISK 00:00:01 17-SEP-06
BP Key: 1868 Status: AVAILABLE Compressed: YES Tag: TAG2006_09_17
Piece Name: /disk0/oradata/live/LIVE/backupset/2006_09_17/live_2006_09_17_archivelog_mohtfs3a_1_1.bck
List of Archived Logs in backup set 1653
Thrd Seq Low SCN Low Time Next SCN Next Time
1 10992 200869768 17-SEP-06 200870470 17-SEP-06
I tried all what I could think of to get rman to see those backups.
Finally, I changed computer system time to two weeks ago - and recovery worked !
Why is recovery ignoring old archivelog backups ? How to make recovery see those old files ? Is there a more elegant way to recover to a point in time that doesn't require me to change computer clock ? Using 'set until scn' is the standard way I do it but it seems to work only within a certain time frame.I don't think that's the problem. I use backupsets to create a copy of database on another machine. So, I never (knock on the wood) do recovery of the database that is being backed up.
This is how the script looks like:
set dbid 123123;
startup nomount
run
allocate channel c1 device type disk;
restore controlfile from autobackup maxdays = 100;
alter database mount;
set until scn 7878787;
restore database;
recover database delete archivelog; -- it fails when it gets to this phase, complaining about missing files
release channel c1;
alter database open resetlogs;
