  • COVERT DB2 DATE TO ORACLE DATE

I AM MIGRATING DB2/AS400 DATA TO ORACLE.
IN THIS I HAVE DB2 DATE WHICH IS IN CYYMMDD FORMAT AND I HAVE TO CONVERT DD/MM/YYYY FROM TO ORACLE.
WHICH IS THE BETTER WAY TO PROCESS THIS TYPE OF DATA.
    COULD YOU PLEASE HELP ME

    HI,
    The simplest way is:
Take a look at the default date format at your Oracle (you can change it if necessary) and then use some DB2 Data do Character function to format it like Oracle default format.
Oracle will do an implicit conversion.
    Does it help you?

  • Question related to Physical Data Guard (Oracle 10gR2)

    Hi,
I have a question regarding Physical Data Guard in a RAC environment (Oracle 10g Release 2).
Say we have 4-node RAC in production and DG is also configured for RAC but number of nodes differ in production and DG. Which node in DG will apply log from production if?
    1) If there is 2 node RAC setup in DG?
    2) If there is 4 node RAC setup in DG?
    3) If there is 5/6/7/... node RAC setup in DG?
Probably, this is a very simple and basic question but your expertise would be of great help.
    Regards

Hi - Only one instance performs the recovery, but more than one standby node can be an archive log destination for the primary instances.

  • Migrate AS400 Db2 data to oracle 11 g

    Hi All,
Any idea how to migrate data from As400 Db2 to Oracle 11 g?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
If your AS400 DB2  is v4.3 or v4.5 then you could use the Oracle Migration Workbench 10.1.0.4.0.  If you have a later version then the current SQL*Developer migration tool cannot be used.  It is planned for this to support later AS400 DB2 versions but there is no date for this.
The only option is to manually migrate the tables.
If you have access to My Oracle Support then the following may help -
How To Migrate Non-Oracle Databases For Which a SQL*Developer or Migration Workbench Option Is Not Available (Doc ID 393760.1)

  • Active data guard 11gr2

    hi,
I want to setup Active Data Guard Oracle 11gr2. This is my first time. Is there any good guide or cookbook for setting up active data guard 11g. I want to setup on linux. I'll be thankful.
    thanx

There's not so much to configure, it's only a sequence of statements:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e22491/manage_ps.htm#sthref597
More important - not technical - point is you need an extra licence.
In fact Real-Time Query means Active DataGuard.

  • What is the role of Lns process in oracle 10g data guard

    Hi ,
plz help me out to find out the actual working of lns process in oracle 10g data guard
when i use SYNC redo transport
the output of v$managed_stanbdy is like that ..
    PROCESS PID STATUS CLIENT_PROCESS GR# SEQ#
    ARCH 9258 CLOSING ARCH 2 498
    ARCH 9260 CLOSING ARCH 1 499
    ARCH 9262 CLOSING ARCH 2 496
    ARCH 9264 CLOSING ARCH 1 497
    LGWR 9206 CLOSING LGWR 2 482
its not display any info about lns, thats means lns is not working in SYNC redo transport mode ?
but if i changed it to ASYNC then the out put of v$managed_stanbdy is like this ..
PS PID STS CPS GR# SEQ#
    ARCH 9258 CLOSING ARCH 1 509
    ARCH 9260 CLOSING ARCH 2 510
    ARCH 9262 CLOSING ARCH 1 505
    ARCH 9264 CLOSING ARCH 2 508
    LGWR 9206 CLOSING LGWR 1 503
    LNS 10528 CLOSING LNS 2 510
Now it display all the info about lns process...
i read in oracle documentation that lns process send redo data from primary,( through network service ) to RFS on standby side.
but first output means that lns is not working,if not then which process send redo from primary to RFS on standby ?
i also read in some blog that lgwr use some extra buffer size from primary db SGA ,to write redo in that buffer ,ans lns read redo from that buffer and send it to RFS on stanby side,
i m totally confused ..can u plz help me with correct logic behind this .
    thanx in advance.

    Hello,
On the primary database when you run the v$managed_standby, it shows up the LNS process as this process sends redo info to the standby database and on the standby database the RFS process receives the redo information.
So on the primary database when you query the v$managed_standby, it shows up LNS and on the standby database when you query the v$managed_standby it shows up RFS. Please let us know where you are running the query.

  • How to add two protection mode in oracle data guard

    Hi all,
We have a discussion on oracle physical data guard yesterday.....
As we all know that data guard has 3 protection mode
    1. Maximum Performance
    2. Maximum Availability (Default)
    3. Maximum Protection
Now we were discussing about is it possible to have two protection mode on same data guard simultaneously... for e.g. Maximum performance and maximum availability.
We have searched a lot but don't find any help on google.
Can any one help on this with any doc, pdf or links..
    Thanks & Regards

    Hi,
you don't find anything on this because it's not possible and would make no sense even if you could do it.
Maximum Availability uses SYNC commit between primary and standby db. If you combine Max. Availabilty with Max. Performance then your db clients have to wait on commit until primary and the max. availability standby have commited. That they would not have to wait on another Max. Performance DB doesn't change anything to the client. You would only combine the disadvantages of both approaches, the wait on sync commit for max. availability and beeing not in sync with primary for the max. performance db.
The max. protection mode requires by definition that the primary db shuts down in case no standby can process the commit. If the primary is not up and running it is pointless to have another (max. availability) standby db at hand, if this max. availability db would take over the service this would violate the defintion of max. protection. No Dataloss is valued higher than db availability, having the data commited only on one db site is not allowed.

  • Oracle EBS R12 - DR setup using Oracle Data Guard

    Hi,
Our customer has implemented Oracle EBS R12 (12.0.6) on a Two Node RAC on HP-UX env. The application Tier also has Two Nodes(Admin Tier and Web Tier).
Oracle Clusterware - OCR and Vote Disk are on Raw Devices and the EBS database is on ASM.
Customer wants to implement a DR solution with Oracle Data Guard with only 2 servers - 1 for the Database Tier and 1 for the Application Tier on the DR Site.
I would like to know if this could be done by following note: 452056.1? I would also like to know if there are other useful docs.
    Thanks.
    Thiru

    Hi,
Customer escalated this issue to Oracle and they came up with this reply:
They can implement Disaster recovery solution from RAC to NON RAC using Solution A which use RMAN utilities for backup and recovery.
While now AMP Application Management Pack gives the capablitiy to build non RAC from RAC Envioment, In future AMP will be capable also to support cloning of DB with Data Guard.
    Details
    Solution A - Using RMAN:
For Release 12 customers, you can clone from a RAC to RAC (like to like) or RAC to non-RAC. This is using RMAN scripts to take a copy of the db when it’s in archive mode. if you’re leveraging any disaster recovery tools like data guard, the above solution should work fine…perhaps some fine tuning to the procedures
Solution B - Using AMP in the future release
For Release 11i , Release 12.x customers, AMP would be offering a new cloning solution that wouldn’t have dependency on Rapid Clone. This solution leverages the strengths of EM Grid Control in provisioning or cloning targets such as databases. This would be an advance solution that would support:
    o A full-fledged scale down cloning
o Cloning of EBS deployed on Shared File System
o Hot and Cold mode cloning
o Quantifiable reduction in clone time for the entire EBS system
This solution would be leveraging EM grid Control’s DB provisioning pack’s clone utilities, that are quite advanced and support cloning of DB with Data Guard.
The recommendation is to start trialing AMP version 3.0, making the purchase and implementing within the Enterprise. As we release the new version of AMP (release 3.0.1), Customer would be in a better position to quickly implement the latest features
Can anyone let me know if the solution A suggested will work.
    Rgds,
    Thiru

  • How to access Data Guard option in Oracle 10g OEM

    Hi All,
I have Oracle 10g ENTERPRISE EDITION on Unix envoirement. I want to setup logical standby Database through Data Guard technology. But when I brows through OEM I do not find Link for DATA GUARD????
    1) How to access Data Guard option from oracle 10g OEM.
    2) Does It come with Enterprise Edition OR I have to install it separately.
    Regards,
    Darshan

I am managing almost everything through EM Grid Control. It is easy to setup and configure.
Anyways, if you have read the documentation on
Oracle® Data Guard Concepts and Administration and setup your environment accordingly then you should not have any problems. Atleast I can assure you that your production database will not be affected by it.
Just make sure that you follow each step and read thoroughly. If you have spare machines then you can test and record your configuration before performing it on your production db. This link will provide you with the information on DataGuard.
    http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/concepts.htm
If you think that way then you will never be able to do any new stuff since you will always fear that something might go wrong. Go ahead pal, try it on test machines and you will know that it is not that difficult.
There are real experts who help people like us in this forum and I know that they are doing a pretty good job.
    All the best.

  • Data Guard with Oracle 9i and 10g -- have you done it?

We have an ERP system (JDEdwards, db size approx 600 GB) and we'd like to copy the data in this system to a database on another computer. We'd use the remote database for reporting, so we need it to be available. We are looking at using Data Guard running in Logical Standby mode.
The ERP database is Oracle 9i, and we are considering having the Logical Standby database be 10g. Have you done this and if so, what was your experience?
Here's why we want to do this. There are many tables in the ERP database that contain descending indexes. We can't change this, and it is not supported with Data Guard under Oracle 9.2. Tables with descending indexes do not copy to the logical standby database.
We were told that this is corrected in a newer release of Oracle, and we were wondering if a 10g database would properly copy tables with descending indexes.
Thanks in advance for any experiences you can share.
    Best Regards,
    Mike

What you are trying to do might not be possible. Because when you create logical standby you have to create a physical standby first and convert it. Primary and standby have to be same version.
In furture it might be possible because 10G will support rolling upgrade of logical standby.
However even it's possible you have to go through a lot of pain to setup and maintain it because Oracle don't support the setup.
What you could try are Stream and Replication, I will say Stream is very interesting one. Because Oracle say : "Oracle Streams and Oracle Data Guard (including Data Guard SQL Apply) are independent features based on some common underlying infrastructure and technology. "

  • Looking for Active Data Guard in Oracle 11g Release 2 References

I want to reach out to customers who have implemented Active Data Guard in production (preferably 11.2), so that we can develop some
customer references that in turn will benefit other customers. The customers who get selected for such references may further be selected to publish their case study directly in oracle.com and/or invited as a customer co-speaker in the upcoming Oracle OpenWorld at San Francisco (Sep 19-23, 2010). Being a customer co-speaker at OOW means they get a free pass to the full conference (regular price for that is $1795-$2495).
Please send any follow-ups to [email protected]
    Thank you.

  • Data Guard on Oracle 9i

    Good day,
I'm trying to configure standby database using Data Guard on Oracle 9i, primary database on windows xp and stand by database on W2K server, and I'm on step three of the Create Configuration Wizard. I'm trying to create a new physical standby database and when I click next then it waits a few moments then get a window that pops up and says "Data Guard remote process startup failed"
I suspect it is something to do with "Preffered Credential" settings.
