DB6 v9.1 Systemcopy

Dear Experts,
I am testing systemcopy on
Source:
DB : DB6 9.1 Enterprise Edition
ERP : ERP2005 SR2
OS : Windows 2003 Enterprise server SP2.
Target:
same ( SID and hostname change)
As per the Homogeneous systemcopy guide i understood two methods of doing systemcopy.
1) Homogeneous Systemcopy using export/import method.
2) Backup of current database using "db2 backup "commands and restoring.
With these two methods it is taking long time to create the image file or export which is resulting in more downtime on the Production box (source system).
Is there any other method which will be faster??

Thanks a lot for quick resposes
I created the image file using "db2 backup xxx" for proceeding with backup/restore method.
I finished upto the step 4 suggested by Cheriyan Sam
Sapinst prompted Phase asking you to do the RESTORE,
I Kept that pop-up screen as it as (did't cancel or clicked OK)
Now i executed below command in IBM DB2->Command line tools -> command editor
"RESTORE DATABASE <SOURCE SID> FROM "E:\DUMP" TAKEN AT 20080326210604 TO "F:" INTO <TARGET SID> NEWLOGPATH "F:\DB2\<TARGET SID>\LOG_DIR" WITH 2 BUFFERS BUFFER 1024 PARALLELISM 1 WITHOUT PROMPTING;"
resulting with ERROR
SQL0902C A system error (reason code ) occured.
subsequent error codes
sqlcode: -902
sqlstate : 58005.
I tried removing all the options and executed the command, still it fails with the same error. and also tried creating database from backup using the Control centre ,
I might be missing some step. Kindly guide me.

Hi,
it is possible to perform a systemcopy [ database - db6 ] without installing sap/using sapinst ?
With Oracle it is possible - sure you have to do some work after the restore -
So I couldn't find any useful hint to perform a systemcopy without usage of sapinst...
can anybody help me?

R3LOAD is not our favourit so the system copy should be performed via redirect restore.

Nice to know - really good but not really usable for this issue.
If I'll perform a redirect restore I have this to do in the way of the "normal" system copy - so start sapinst => [ sapinst will install the database ] and perform the redirect restore

If you use Oracle - system copy - briefly:
1) source sap system - create restore script
2) target system - shutdown sap/oracle
3) tsm - target system should connect to source tsm [ to get the right backup ]
4) restore - without sapinst
5) create db-user/rights
6) start sap system + sm59, sm28 and so on
I don't have seen this for a db2 luw database ...
here I have to use sapinst - before I execute step 1)

In development system i have added a field into already existing index and activated successfully without any errors or warnings and after transported the TR into Quality system,In Quality system it shows the warning Index does not exist in database system DB6 sap

Hi Mohan,
After any change in the existing structure of the table you need to adjust and then activate it.
It can be done using SE14 tcode, please try using this.

I need further explanation why when i transport index from Development Client to Production Client the index is active but does not exist in database system DB6.
So when the cases is occurs i must re-create the index again in Production Level...

it might be due to some BUG in RDBMS...
First Check the Secondary index in TEST system
Look at the Transport Number in DEV system, If this is having error, then it will show you the error details also,
If that not moved Properly then you need to create another request for the INDEX and move it again

Systemcopy problem by installing the central instance

i am trying to make a Systemcopy from the PRD System to QAS System (Release R/3 4.7 X200) ,
and got a error message duringsapinst.exe at Input section:
Error by Dbo objects check Database QAS contains user objects belonging to
system user dbo;
correct reported errors before continuing with the installation.
Step´s to reproduce the problem.
1. Install Windows 2K3 server and Service packs
2. Install the SQL 2000 and patches
3. Create the database and restore the database from the production backup
4. run Sapinst.exe---->nonunicode installation--->Install a Central
Instance--->Local Installation--->Install Additional SAP system into an
existing database------>enter the database name -
then got the error
above
I can´t execute the Script user_Change.sql because the sidadm user can not be find.
any help ?

sorry but we use a MSSQL Server 2000 and when i try to use the new sapinst, where the option
"system copy by "backup/restore" a CI (and DI) will be installed, sapinst stops and requests you to import the backup." is placed,
we must use a SQL Server 2005 because the new sapinst doesn´t support the old MSSQL Database.

thanks for your very fast hints.
I have checked .log files SAPxxxx.log (SAP0000, SAPAPPL0, SAPAPPL1, ...) but there isnt any entry with VBAK.
When I entered under <sid>adm command: db2 describe table sap<sid>.VBAK it takes a long time wihtout any result.

ABAP+JAVA Systemcopy - Wrong sapgw after the copy

For our BI system, we did an ABAP+JAVA systemcopy that appeared to complete successfully. Both ABAP and JAVA start cleanly but when we execute the URL to logon through the Java, we now get this error:
Application error occurred during request processing.
Details:   java.lang.NullPointerException: null
Exception id: [001E0B50DDFD002C0000000000006655000483965C5A18B6]
In my server0 logs, I find the following issue:
[Thr 198] * ERROR       partner 'localhost:sapgw55' not reached
That is the sapgw from our Production system, not the refreshed Development system. Obviously, I made a mistake somewhere in the copy. The question is whether this can be resolved post-refresh? Or do I have to do the whole systemcopy over again (a big task)?
The ABAP side works find so I'm really baffled as to how this sapgw could be off only on the Java side.

Quad Monitor Configuration 1452-DB6

I need to set up two 1452-DB6 monitors to clone the display of a second monitor on a pc running windows 7. I can clone one or the other to my monitor #2, but I need to have three displays all the same. Monitor #2 and both 1452-DB6's need to have the same output.
Anyone have any ideas of how I can do this? Thanks for your help.

So you want to duplicate the same screen on two external LT1421 ThinkVision USB monitor?
I tried it but the software doesn't allow you to do this. Since this is a displaylink device, you can contact displaylink and see there is any patch out that allows you to achieve the desired result.

I made a homogenous systemcopy from the system PRD to ENT with an redirected restore. I had the following system environment:
AIX 5.3 TL10 SP1
DB2 V9.7 (without any fixpack)
After the restore and the recovery were finished, I was able to start the database manager and to activate the database.
I tried to execute a script for cleanup some tables according to the systemcopy guide but I got the following SQL messages:

The user db2ent was/is in the group dbentadm and the group dbentadm is configured as SYSADM:
SYSADM group name                        (SYSADM_GROUP) = DBENTADM
SYSCTRL group name                      (SYSCTRL_GROUP) = DBENTCTL
SYSMAINT group name                    (SYSMAINT_GROUP) = DBENTMNT
The only solution was to grant the authorizations with an other user to db2ent.
For the restore I created an new instance with the following command (as user root):
/db2/ENT/db2_software/instance/db2icrt -a SERVER_ENCRYPT -s ESE -u db2ent db2ent
I set the correct DBM configuration and created an empty database as user db2ent with the following command
db2 create db ENT on /db2/ENT
The restore was executed with db2 -tvf restore_prd.clp as user db2ent.
Is there a bug in the db2 software or is there any other solution? I did not changed the environment for the user db2ent.
The authorization concept has been changed in DB2 V9.7

I finished restore using redirect method, but i did not know about this security issue.
Now I tried creating db2<oldsid> user and tried granting dbadm secadm priv.
but i get this error
db2 => GRANT DBADM to USER DB2P60
DB21034E The command was processed as an SQL statement because it was not a
valid Command Line Processor command. During SQL processing it returned:
SQL0707N The name "DBADM" cannot be used because the specified identifier is
reserved for system use. SQLSTATE=42939
Please help me.

Homogeneous System Copy for 4.5B/DB6/W2K ?

I'm looking for the documentation on doing a homogeneous system copy for an R/3 4.5B System for a client. They are running DB6 on Windows 2000. I've searched Service Marketplace and can only find doc's back as far as 4.6C. I can't find the one for 4.5B.
The client is looking to migrate the current system to new hardware and then subsequently upgrade to ECC 6.00, but that part is off a piece. The first part is to migrate the system to the new hardware in order to solve some space and performance issues.
If anyone can point me to the docs, or has a copy on their local machines they can send me, then please let me know.

I suggest you open an OSS call under BC-INS and ask for the guide there.
Since 4.5B is out of maintenance and you/your customer has (hopefully) an extended maintenance contract for that version they will give you that guide.
If you do NOT have them, you might be pretty lost in case of a problem, if you have the guide or not...

Homogeneous System Copy using DB6 specific procedure

Hello all,
I'd like to do homogeneous system copy from source system(hostname: host01) to target system(hostname: host02) using DB2 backup/restore procedure.
Because SAP database has some tables related their hostname, I think it cause some conflicts between target system's hostname(host02) and the records in the new database on target system(it still remains "host01").
Can I avoid this conflicts if I use DB6 redirected restore method?
Or do I have to do R3load export/import like hetero system copy?
I know I can start SAP system when I set SAPLOCALHOST=host01 in instance profile on host02, but is there any other good workaround?
I wonder how you will do if you face this situation.
Any comments would be appreciated.

As you mentioned, System copy often brings changing hostname, so the post processing in the SAP's Guide should cover all of influences.
I had thought SAP database does not contain hostname entries anymore, but, I found one table which contains DBHOST name in ECC database: SAP<SID>.DB6NAVSYST
ex) SID=ST8, hostname=athens

Can I believe these entries will be adjusted during System Copy operation along SAP's Guide(both DB2 backup/restore and R3load)?

I have very negative impression of changing hostname of SAP system since I read Note 8307...
Does SAP support change hostname if I do System Copy?

NW2004s: Homogeneous systemcopy ABAP + JAVA

When doing a combined ABAP + Java systemcopy via R3load procedure, the "old" configurations in the propertysheets on the filesystem may get lost.
What is the general procedure here to find out, what needs to be manually adapted after a systemcopy? I know the general "system copy guide" but that guide doesn't mention e. g. what to do if you copy EP 7.0 or a Solution Manager Diagnostics.

In case of EP the configurations will be retained in the target system.You can just do one more step that is exporting the userdata from the ume of the source system(instance) and then after the installation of targret instance import it.
Other configurations will be retained.There are two post installtion steps metioned in the system copy guide.Please perform the same.
In case of solution diagnotices i am not so sure.Will try to find out and let you know

Systemcopy in a Federated Portal Network

Hi there,
any experience how to process a systemcopy of a Producersystem (JAVA and ABAP) in a activated Federated Portal Network.
We implement a ECC6.0 System with Portal and Business Package ERP2005 as Producer Portal and a Company Intranetportal Java-only as Consumerportal.
Should we unregister the producersystem, make systemcopy and re-register producer again?
Or it´s possible to change only the certificates in producer/consumer after systemcopy?

I think that is the best practice.
But now we have a problem.
One producersystem was overburned by systemcopy without dereigstering this producer in the consumerportal. Now It´s not possibler anymore to deregister this producer.
Do anyone know a hint, to delete the registration manually from consumersystem?
Or may I delet this system?

Is there any recommendations in installation of additional DI in the production systems? As DB/CI should be up and running while installing the DI - is it ok to do the installation during productive hours? My worry is that after the DI installation - it will be already visible in SM51 and can be used by the system to accomodate other loads and may have impact to the user's activities. Are there any best practices recommended for this scenario?
