DBA Studio 8.1.7 hangs at start on Windows 2000

When I run DBA Studio 8.1.7 on my Windows 2000 machine, it nearly always hangs at the "Enterpise Manager" splash. Usually, I can leave it hung there and start another instance successfully. But not always.
This did not happen under 8.1.6.
I'm running Oracle 8i Personal Edition.
Any suggestions?

Solved by destroying all Oracle files and registry keys and reinstalling.

How can I run a java-application on starting of Windows 2000

How can I run a java-application without any user on starting of Windows 2000?
For example, if the computer is restarted and nobody enter into it yet, my java-application should run anyway.
How can I do that?

Hi, you have to put it in a Windows service.
To do this you have a program, Srvany.exe that allow to insert a .exe or .bat program in a Windows service.
For example, i develop a program, TomcatGuardian and i put it in a service because i need to run it in a server without Administrator logged in.

Firefox hangs when starting, Firefox window title bar says "Firefox (not responding)". (was: Firefox crashes)

Firefox hangs when starting, during session restore. Uninstalled then installed new Firefix. Same problem. Firefox window title bar says "Firefox (not responding)". It just hangs, won;t display even one page. What to do? Tried -safe-mode, smae result.

I keep too many tabs open and whilst trying to download a pdf file Firefox 8.01 hung and when I restarted it the Embarrassing page opened. I knew which tab I needed to delete but as soon as I tried to navigate to the errant tab it said "Not Responding" and nothing I could do would make it respond. I tried command line opening in safe mode and the same thing happened.
I have read the other posts but cannot send a crash dump as it is "Not Responding" and does not get far enough to crash.

Reports Builder doesn't start in Windows 2000

i've installed Oracle Developer Suite 10g on Windows 2000 Pro (SP4). Installation procedure ends succesfully, but when i try to launch Reports Builder the process rwbuilder hangs up.

I've stopped my scan virus, but the process rwbuilder still hangs up...and my path name doesn't contains any spaces!
Other ideas?
I've installed Developer Suite 10g and Enterprise Manager 10g in the same machine, but in different Oracle Home and the only Reports Builder doesn't work...the other applications (SqlPlus, Forms Builder etc..) works fine!

ISQLPlus Service not started in Windows 2000 (Oracle 10.1)

I have installed Oracle 10g on Windows Platform.
All the service are started but iSQLPlus service showing "starting".
Its giving me an error :
"Failed to start the service, Error:997, overlapped I/O operation is in progress"

10 G installation does not start on Windows 2000 SP 4

Machine configuration:
Pentium 4 2.8 GHz
496 MB RAM
120 GB HDD
The temp folder log shows that all installer requirements are met.
Still the OUI window does not show up. Any ideas?

First things first. Here are some things to consider:
1. If using Windows 2000, you need to be using Windows 2000 Professional with SP4.
2. You should not have any other Oracle software running during this install.
3. You also not have ORACLE_HOME, TNS_ADMIN or any of the other Oracle environment variables set.
4. You need to be a local administrator on the machine.
5. You should not have a firewall enabled.
6. You need to have a fully qualified domain name (FQDN) set for the machine.
7. The FQDN should be set in the HOSTS file which you can find in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
8. You need to check the certification matrix for 10.1.3.2.0 and make sure it is available for Windows 2000 and that there are no other prerequisites?

request in a timely fashion. This is what I did to start the oracle service..
1. Change the startup type to manual in the windows service panel
2. Restart the Windows 2000 PC
3. Start the Oracle service by clicking the start button in the services window.
4. It will hit the same error ie 1053..
5. Now kill the oracle process using windows Task Manager
6 Once again go back to services window and click the start button
7. It will show the status meter window with a close button..
8. After the status meter crosses halfway hit the close button..
9. Your oracle process is started now..

Multiple instances not starting using Windows services

Hi,
We have two Oracle instacnes installed in same oracle home. They are not starting using windows 2000 service manager.
I have to go to svrmgrl and set the ORACLE_SID environment variable to startup each instance. How can I make them start through windows Services instead of manually doing it.
Is installing multiple instances in same home a good idea?
These multiple instances are not part of paralell server.

I have checked the registry keys and everything looks ok.
ORACLE_instance_AUTOSTART is true
ORACLE_instance_PFILE is correct
ORACLE_instance_SHUTDOWN is true
ORACLE_instance_SHUTDOWNTYPE is i
Above values are right for both instances. I even have recreated the services using ORADIM. I can start both instances by going to command prompt set ORACLE_SID and start the instance using SVRMGRL. But they'll not autostart when the machine is rebooted.

Why can't I start DBA STUDIO on my computer?

My computer's OS is MS windows 2000 advanced server and it has 4 cpu and 2GB RAM.I start my dba studio and work on it normally these days until this morning the problem came.I click the menu "DBA STUDIO" in the start menu,the certain picture didn't come out and so I couldn't go into the program.
By the way,I had start the services before that.I also tried the way so as restarting my computer and the services.

If you've activated fast user switching, more than one account can be logged in at the same time. There would be a menu item showing your user name to the left of the Spotlight menu.

DBA Studio -- getting started

My long run goal is to import MS Access databases to Oracle databases using an ODBC driver. I am trying to do this with minimal Oracle experience. I have DBA Studio. I have managed to create a test database that I can play around with to see what the features are. However, whenever I create a database, it comes with all these sample tables and priveleges and users and roles, etc. I want to get rid of all that and have a "clean slate" so I can work on creating my own tables, roles, etc. If anyone could help, please let me know. I might even like to talk to someone on the phone about this. Any help would be appreciated.

Can not insert a row to a table from Oracle DBA Studio

Hi,
I try to use the Oracle DBA Studio to create a table and put some test data in it. Here is what I found:
I start Oracle DBA Studio on the client machine by connecting to an Oracle server 8i (8.1.7). I create a simple table called Test with two columns: one is USER, VARCHAR2, 10; and the other is USER2, CHAR, 2. After that, I right click on the table name and select "Table Data Editor" from the popup menu. The table editor window shows up. I type in the value 'AA' and 'BB' in the grid of two columns. Then I click the Apply button. An error message box popped up:
ORA-00928 missing SELECT keyword.
I click Show SQL button. The SQL statement is as following:
INSERT INTO "TASYS"."TEST" (USER ,USER2 ) VALUES ('AA' ,'BB').
I copy the statement to SQL Plus and run it. The same error is generated. But if I remove (USER, USER2) from the statement, it inserts a row without complaint. In other word, the database will not allow to insert if individual columns are list. I realize something must wrong with the new server and client installed and could not figure out what happening. Hope someone can help.

I am not sure, but could it be that USER is a keyword or predefine word. Check Oracle'slist of predefine/keyword

Hang when starting JDev in Win2k server...

I've searched this forum and in fact quite a lot posts are saying that they have the same problem. When starting the JDeveloper in windows 2000, after loading the addins it hangs and leaving the splash screen alone :) Many replies said JDeveloper 3.1.1.2 is win2k certified. Ok, here is another unsuccessful case, here is the config of my machine:
PII 333 192MB Ram
Windows 2000 server SP1 installed
MS Visual Studio SP4
MS Office 2000 Sevice Release 1a
Default IE version bundled with windows 2000
JRE 1.3 international version
System locale: English (United States)
Installed Languages:
Western Europe and United States (Default)

Simplified Chinese
Japanese
And I haven't install any Oracle database and OCI yet. I can say my system config is "clean" enough as all softwares are new installation with most updated patch. And when I set the default language to others (eg. trad. chin.) the JDev even cannot start (only hanged minimized icon in task bar without loading addins and splash screen), therefore I here provide my langauge settings. This may not be of much use to you, but all the same I am running JDeveloper3.0 (although this version is not certified for Win2K!!!) on Windows 2000 server with success.
My system config is

JDeveloper 3.0

No problems till now.
However, I do get some problems with DAC forms in the Design mode - JDev simpler exits!!!But I can counter that by recompiling my projects and then switching in the Design mode for the DAC form
Other than this there is no serious problems

Why the explain plan not available in my dba studio with a message like this "explain plan not available for this sql statement. ora-02195: attempt to create permanent object in a temporary tablespace"
Another question: I can use "set autotrace on" to trace sql statement in sql*plus window. But the final execution plan come up without those thing like cost, cardinality but only the steps

Was this a trace started on an already running task? Was the trace stopped before the task completed? Did the trace file reach its set size limit before the task compled?
In all three cases above you would have cursors that were not closed and stats information not written to the trace file resulting in incomplete data for some SQL.
