Dbconsole and em grid control

Can I use a dbconsole and em grid control at the same time on the same db instance? Is it possible?

I hope to see an option that will allow a user to use emca to create multiple db consoles for one database when required. Even if it is not for the purpose of creating multiple consoles using different schemas, it would help to prompt for the repository user (not just defaulting to SYSMAN) as well as the password. Then it should also prompt for the Monitoring user and password (and not just deeault to DBSNMP).
This way, there is flexibility in the creation of the console and user install errors that relate to sysman will be reduced.

  • DBConsole and OEM Grid controller

    Hi Experts,
Enterprise manager Grid control is in inplace in my environment. I have installed new oracle 11g database in windows 2008 server.
As part of the oracle installation, installer created the following server that i can see in servers.msc.
    OracleOradb11ghome1TNSListener -Automatic-started
    ORacleserviceORCL-Automatic-started
    OracleDBconsole-manual-not started
    OracleJobSchedular-manual-not started
DBConsole and Jobschedular not started automatically.
    Query:
1.When Grid controller is in place is it necessary to start DBconsole..?
2.what is the purpose of JobSchedular and do i need to start that for any reason..?
    Please advise..
    Regards

    1) No. You should use either gridcontrol or dbconsole, but not both.
    2) JobScheduler is for external jobs, it's disabled by default:

  • Discoverer and 10g Grid Control

Is anyone using 10g Grid Control to do any sort of monitoring (availability monitoring, performance, etc.) of Discoverer Plus, Viewer or the Portlet Provider? Any tips or strategies?

Database Control is the HTTP Management environment and comes installed with the 10g Database. It can be used to manage one database (one target) at a time (standalone). To monitor more than one database, you must create a new console on a different port for each database.
10g Grid Control is the Enterprise version in that you can monitor different Target from different operationg systems at the same time. These include Application Servers, Listeners, Operation Systems, Non Oracle Database Systems using plugins (from 10gR2).
So, for someone who was using OEM 9i, there was connection in to Standalone Console (Java) and Oracle Management Server (Java and HTML). In 10g, they are replaced with Database Control (Java and HTML versions) and Grid Control respectively.

  • Grid Control and Standby Database

I have a (single node) physical standby server for a two node RAC Primary.
I can view the standby server in OEM ( java tool).
How do I add the standby db in my Grid Control ( 10.2.0.4.0 )
    regards,Lily

    Thanks for the reply.
Yes I have grid agent running on the standby node. I have also installed 'yast rpms' and the grid control is able to see the host under the 'target' tab of grid control.
While trying to discover the standby database, the automatic target discover fails.
Then I did the 'manually add', and it complains 'failed to connect'.
I believe, this is mainly because the STANDBY database is in 'MOUNT' state and I am using 'dbsnmp' to connect ot the grid control ( my grid control is configured to register new database as 'dbsnmp').

  • Grid Control and SOA suite monitoring best practice

    Hi there,
I’m trying to monitor a SOA implementation on Grid Control.
Are there some best practices about it?

If they use it to access and monitor the database without making any other changes, then it should be fine. But if they start scheduling stuff like oradba mentioned above, then that is where they will clash.
You do not want a situation where different jobs are running on the same database from different setups by different team (cron, dbcontrol, dbms_job, grid control).
Just remember their will be aditional resource usage on the database/server to have both running and the Grid Control Repository cannot be in the same database as the db console repository.

  • Run Singlular Database Control and Grid Control Agents at the same time????

    Hello,
I have walked into a new job where one of my 1st tasks is installing and configuring EM Grid Control version 10.2.0.3. Most of the individual databases already have singular EM/Database Control also set up for basic monitoring - some are 10.2.0.1 databases; some are 9.2.0.7 databases.
Can I continue to run the existing singular EM Database Controls for monitoring and managing the databases while I am getting connected, the new agents up and running, and the Grid Control templates and alerts and notification fully set up?
Or will I have to shut down those agents fully prior to installing the new 10.2.0.3 agents???
I am hoping so since they use different communication ports of 1158 for the singular Database Controls versus 4889 for Enterprise Wide Grid Control.
Thanks for any help in clarifying this.
    KL

OK, so as long as I keep the homes separate & straight, I could conceivably allow them both (Database Control and Grid Control Agent) to run AND be used at the same time - even when using secured grid control (https), correct? Just have the separate homes for separate agents and use separate ports for the different consoles?
Of course I might still run into an issue with this, ass I am also in the process of securing Grid Control... The current Database Console used by the app users to monitor is NOT an https url...
The real reason for this is because some app users are used to using the EM Database Control for application monitoring. I would like to not take that away from them while I am in the process of setting up all of the users, roles, alerts, groups, etc. on Grid Control.

  • Configuring Grid Control on 10g R2

    Hi
Current Envt : Oracle 8.1.7/Win NT.
We are going migrate to 10g R2 ,
In the current 8i environment, we have a EM database which manages RMAN backups of a couple of Other databases.
And we monitor these backup jobs through this Enterprise Manager 2.2.
Also, using this OEM 2.2, iam able to monitor all the existing databases .
    Coming to 10g R2 (10.2.0.1)
i realized that Enterpise Manager (web based) is only for a single instance.
And i read some where that 10g Grid Control would be helpful for multiple databases.
and how to access the Grid Control..and configure multiple databases on it.
Currently, i installed Grid Control 10.1.0.5 by giving the path as
    E:\app\oracle\product\10.2\em_1
However, iam not able to figure as how to bring up the Grid Control.
I wanted to know if someone can provide the steps on how to install (if i have been doing anything wrong ?
Whether while installing i have to give the same $ORACLE_HOME as with the database ?
I also tried the same way as regular DBcosole ie., http://localhost:port/em
In addition, while creating the DB using DBCA, i selected the Grid Control Option.
Please suggest as how to proceed further.
    Thanx

You probably didn't install the DBconsole.

For this option to work, you need to have Grid Control operational. First start with selecting only DBConsole...this way you can manage your database. After you get Grid Control installed and the agent is working properly, you can stop the DBConsole service and use Grid Control to manage your target database.

  • Grid Control installation for 11G: is 10g grid required ?

    Dear All,
We are currently using the local dbconsole for the monitoring and doing administrative work on our 11g database. My limited experience and observation indicates that 11G does not have its own enterprise Grid control yet and it requires the older 10G grid control ? So if we deploy (albeit successfully 10G grid control), does the enterprise manager control tabs will be very different than the current dbconsole in 11G ?
    Thanks.

Thanks.Upgrade Grid Control to 10.2.0.5. Grid Control is an independent product and will not follow the same numbering as Database and App Server/Fusion.
It will provide a lot of extra pages and tabs anyway. And it will format and present the information for Oracle 11g properly to work in it's pages.
    Try it and see.
and ask Grid Control questions in the Grid Control forum for better Grid Control answers.

  • How to configure EM Grid Control for more than one databases?

    Hi,
I'm configuring EM on Oracle 10gRel1 on Linux. I have more than one databases in the server, and I want use IE at my PC to monitor the databases on Linux server. I can configure and access the Grid Control Console by emca for first database, but cannot configure for the second one, unless I remove the first one configurration. How can I configure EM for more than one databases?
    Thanks.

    Thank you everybody.
Yes, I'm talking about DBConsole rather than Grid Control (sorry for misuse the term). I managed to set up DB Console for every DB in the same Linux box (10Rel1). What I did is:
    1) stop db console and agent with emctl
    2) remove repository with RepManager
    3) config with emca
Then I can monitor individual databases from my PC (but have to login with different port).
I'm thinking mybe I should use Grid Control instead.

  • CDB metrics for GRID CONTROL

    Hello all,
We are working with CDB 10.2.0.0.0 and the GRID CONTROL AGENT 10.2 is installed so we would like to know some best practices, experiences, implemented tests,... that you can share after working with these products. Our aim is to have a large set of metrics so we can choose the most interesting ones.
In other words, we would like to get more metrics than the default defined ones. So we need people that have worked with the products to share their experiences.
Could you share some info with us (like custom SQL metrics)?
Particularly, we are interested in metrics like:
    · Total size grouped by folder (all subfolders included)
    o Consumed
    o Allocated
    · Total size grouped by library
    o Allocated
    · Web Services response time
    o Of downloading a document
o Of getting the document info
    o Of uploading documents
    o Of searching a document
    · DB response time
    o Of downloading a document
o Of getting the document info
    o Of uploading documents
    o Of searching a document
    · Get the status of an agent
    · etcetera...
I used the sqlarea to get some metrics from WS calls. Do you have any advice for getting custom sql metrics?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Best regards.

Some numbers can be found in the documentation :
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/em.102/b40103/pre-installation_requirements.htm
Though I use more than 2 GB for the OMS installation (AIX).

  • Grid control is not showing targets

    hi
i have grid control agent installed on windows 2000. i have a 9i database and a 10g database on the same node and i can see and access these from my grind control.
i have another database 10g on my another windows machine and i installed agent there and my grid control can access that node, agent and database.
I have one 9.2 database on Red Hat Linux Advance server 4 and i installed agent there and i have a 10g database on another Red Hat Linux Advance server 4 machine and i installed agent there also. My grid control cannot view and access these two linux nodes, agents and databses on these two linux nodes. Agents are running successfullly on these two nodes and when i view the status of agent on these two linux nodes, i see that agent is running successfully and a message "Last successfull heart beat to OMS" displays the time when last tim agent ping tha OMS and it is updated every minute and it means that that my agent is communicating with the OMS but i really cant see these two nodes in my Enterprise Manager Grid Control.
Is there any conflication that i cannot administor Linux nodes from Windows OMS?
    Regards

I think all data aren't getting uploaded to oms side , Would you please try to manually upload the data from agent side by using emctl upload commamd
I suspect it would throw the error ie" unable to upload bdbbfb.xml file "
Let me know the result .

  • Can Grid control 11g monitor Oracle 9i database

Can Grid control 11g monitor Oracle 9i database? This is on Linux5.7
    Thanks for the help
    s.

Yes but Enterprise Manager 11.1 Grid Control requires the 11.1 Agent.
Then go to the Targets tab, then Databases. It should self-discover the 9i database.
