Dbconsole without dbca

Hi,
Is there any way to start the 10g dbconsole for a database which has not been created with the configuration assistant?
Thanks for answer
Laurent

Ok, I have it ...
You can configue an existing database with the dbca, even if your db was not created by dbca !

  • Can I rebuild dbconsole without putting database in quiesce mode?

    I have a database (10Gr2) that the dbconsole just won't start up, while it say's its starting up, and during that time I can actually log into the console and look at things, navigate around etc., but then I get a message saying that it could not be started, and I lose the console connection.
    I know the fast way is to just do the dbconsole recreate, but this puts the database in quiesce mode, which amounts to an outage, which I would sooner avoid.
    Is there a way to drop and recreate without affecting users?
    thanks

    what you can do here launch dbca and create another instance dbconsole

  • DBCA Error: specify another sid

    I deleted a database on my system manually (without dbca). Now i want to create a new database with the same SID, but dbca always give me an error, that the specified SID is already existing. I deleted all datafiles and the whole filestructure. I think I have to manually remove an entry from any file which is checked by dbca. But where can I find this file?
    Choose another SID for the new db is not possible.
    OS is SLES10
    I hope someone can help me.

    since you deleted it by hand, the oratab file wasn't updated. the SID for the DB must still be there. you'll probably have to edit it / remove the entry
    I think it's at /etc/oratab

  • Oracle 10G installation problem, and errors on SOLARIS 10 x86

    HI.
    I installed the last version of oracle 10g on a x86 SOLARIS 10 system.
    When the installer arrived at Configuration assistants, the window is stopping, and I can't see forward. But when I look at the installAction.log, the installation is checked as OK (?).
    When I launch sqlplus, and startup inside, it is said the ora-00205 error (problem with control files), and in the end, I'm really suprised there's no the database I told the installer to create at the beginning. But should I be surprised? As I didn't see really the end of the installation, and the installer didn't propose me the PATH where to install the DB, well, I guess there's something wrong.
    Could anybody tell me how to solve these problems, please?
    Thank you :)

    Two options:
    1. Create database using DBCA - execute $ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbca
    2. Create database manually (without DBCA)

    Please post me Helpful LinksYOu need to understand that ... as far as the database is concerned ... it's not an either/or situation between dedicated and shared server. Setting shared server parameter like DISPATCHERS simply allows the database to handle shared server connections. But it is up to the client to specify which method it wants, and the database will always allow dedicated server connections.

  • Stuck trying to remove Cluster/RAC 11Gr1 in prep for 11Gr2 install...

    Hello all,
    I'm thinking I'm missing something simple here...but I can't figure it out yet.
    Ok, I have a 3 node RAC cluster, Oracle 11Gr1...I want to remove all instance, and clustering (ASM is ok to keep)...before I try to put on 11Gr2.
    This is on RHEL5.
    I had previously used srvctl to remove the databases, nodeapps, asm...etc., in anticipation of removal of everything.
    I found the de-install directions for 11Gr1 at Oracle's site...and found they said for this release, to use DBCA to remove the RAC instances, and then the clusterware.
    This is where i"m stuck. I opened up DBCA, and for the RAC stuff...the option to delete databases was greyed out unselectable.
    I thought this odd. I went to look at the instructions...and while in the Preamble of what was going to happen with the de-install, it mentioned shutting down database instances, etc....it did NOT in fact, say to do this prior to firing up DBCA.
    So, I went back with srvctl, I added nodeapps (clustering was still running). I added back the ASM..I could do lsnrctl status, and I saw it up, and saw ASM there.
    I next tried adding my databases back...which seemed to go without error. However, I did a database start..and no error, but when doing a ps-ef | grep pmon, I see nothing running on any node??
    I tried to do a config on the database instances...no error messages returned...but again, doing the srvctl start did nothing.
    I thought, well, lets see if DBCA can work from here.
    This time, it DID see the RAC instances...but said they were "inactive". It would not let me past this screen (even after adding sys user and password)...to delete the databases.
    I've never used srvctl to start from scratch to add asm, listeners, nodeapps and database instance...only to delete them, so I'm guessing I'm missing a step here.
    I saw there was an add service option, but I'm not sure what the service is or how to use this command. I tried to add a service with best guess something like
    ./srvctl add service -d INSTANCE -s INSTANCE-u -a "INSTANCE1 INSTANCE2 INSTANCE3"
    But it threw an error saying :
    PRKP-1085 : Service name cannot be same as the database default service name "INSTANCE"
    So, am I missing the service part of getting these database instances up and running? If so, can someone give me some suggestions on what I'm missing doing here.
    As a second part to this...can I remove all the instance stuff without DBCA? If I go back, and remove everything with srvctl......
    Then go to DBCA to remove the clustering software (I should still be able to do that)
    Can I then go, and just hit each node, remove each $ORACLE_HOME...to get rid of all binaries, etc?
    I wanna make sure I clean off everything 11Gr1 (except the ASM libs)...before I try to put 11Gr2 on these nodes..as that I know they are pretty different, and I don't want any old stuff there messing with the new install.
    Thank you in advance,
    cayenne

    Hi,
    did you also add back the instances? srvctl add instance?

  • Unable to Login to Idle Instance from SQL*Plus in windows

    Hello,
    I'm cloning the db from windows to windows enviornment. At auxilary instance after configuring the Listener and making Password file to right folder when I try to connect to Idle Instance through sql*plus by follwring connad
    c:\sqlplus sys/password as sysdba
    It gives me ORA-12518 Tns: Listener could not hand off client conenction error
    Then I put the follwing parameter in listener.ora DIRECT_HANDOFF_TTC_LISTENER=OFF and restart listener and then try to connect it gives me Ora-12560: TNS protocol adapter error.
    I try to connect through tnsnames but give me same error.
    Kindly tell me how to resolve this issue as its not allowing me to connect to an idle instance so that I can go further.
    I'm using 10gR2 on windows server 2003.
    Regards,
    Abbasi

    follow the steps to clone database:
    # 1. Backup the source database.
    To use RMAN duplicate an RMAN backup of the source database is required. If there is already one available, skip to step 2. If not, here is a quick example of how to produce an RMAN backup. This example assumes that there is no recovery catalog available:
    rman target sys@<source database> nocatalog
    RMAN>backup database plus archivelog ;
    RMAN> backup archivelog all;
    This will backup the database and archive logs.
    # 2. Produce a pfile for the new database
    This step assumes that the source database is using a spfile. If that is not the case, simply make a copy the existing pfile.
    Connect to the source database as sysdba and run the following:
    create pfile='init<new database sid>.ora' from spfile;
    This will create a new pfile in the $ORACLE_HOME/database directory.
    The new pfile will need to be edited immediately. If the cloned database is to have a different name to the source, this will need to be changed, as will any paths. Review the contents of the file and make alterations as necessary.
    Because in this example the cloned database will reside on the same machine as the source, Oracle must be told how convert the filenames during the RMAN duplicate operation. This is achieved by adding the following lines to the newly created pfile:
    db_file_name_convert=(<source_db_path>,<target_db_path>)
    log_file_name_convert=(<source_db_path>,<target_db_path>)
    # 3. Create bdump, udump & cdump directories
    Create bdump, udump & cdump directories as specified in the pfile
    # 4. Create a service
    c:/>oradim –new –sid <clonedatabasename> –intpwd <pwd>
    eg:
    c:>oradim –new –sid clonedb –intpwd oracle
    # 6. Duplicate the database
    From sqlplus, start the instance up in nomount mode:
    startup nomount
    Exit sqlplus, start RMAN and duplicate the database. As in step 1, it is assumed that no recovery catalog is available. If one is available, simply amend the RMAN command to include it.
    rman target sys@<source_database> nocatalog auxiliary /
    duplicate target database to <clone database name>;
    thats it
    For RMAN Cloning refer:
    follow the documentation replace the destinations/locations with your location/folder/destination in source and target database.

  • How to create Database

    Hi all,
    I have installed Oracle 11gr2 on Linux machine
    Now i need to create Database without DBCA.... can anyone help me
    plZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

    Hii
    Follow the below steps (say database name "prima")
    1.) create pfile some thing like this
    $ cat skripte/initprima.ora
    compatible=11.2.0.2
    db_block_size=8192
    db_name='prima'
    db_create_file_dest='/u01/app/oracle/oradata'
    db_recovery_file_dest='/u02/fra'
    db_recovery_file_dest_size=2g
    memory_target=640m
    undo_management=auto
    undo_tablespace=undotbs1
    db_domain=''
    diagnostic_dest='/u01/app/oracle/diag'
    Notice the absence of the parameter CONTROL_FILES. Now look how the two parameters make it easy for me to create my Database with mirrored Control- and Online Logfiles:
    2.) create the password file
    3.) connect as
    $ export ORACLE_SID=prima
    $ sqlplus / as sysdba
    Connected to an idle instance.
    SQL> create spfile from pfile='/home/oracle/skripte/initprima.ora';
    File created.
    SQL> startup nomount
    ORACLE instance started.
    Total System Global Area 668082176 bytes
    Fixed Size 2229480 bytes
    Variable Size 398461720 bytes
    Database Buffers 264241152 bytes
    Redo Buffers 3149824 bytes
    SQL> create database undo tablespace undotbs1
    default tablespace users
    default temporary tablespace temp
    character set al32utf8;
    Database created.
    That was it already and it took less than a minute. Some more minutes will it take to run catalog & catproc, though. Let’s investigate the new Database:
    SQL> select status from v$instance;
    STATUS
    OPEN
    --neeraj

  • Ora-02084 : database name is missing a component

    hai all,
    i am a newbee to oracle. i am struggling to create a database, any help would be highly appreciated. i have installed Oracle 9i on a RH8.0 system. but while creating database through DBCA, i am getting the error message, "ORA -02084:Oracle database name is missing a component". i ahve gone through the documentation and found that probelm is with ORACLE_SID. i have set all the environment variables(including ORACLE_SID, DB_NAME AND DB_DOMAIN) according to the documentaion and created swap files, temporary space etc.i have set all the environment variables in .bash_profile in ORACLE_HOME.
    i have stopped DBCA and gone through the files. i could see that the database is actually created, with initXXX.ora.441414312 file. but once when i started the database with nomount and checked, i could find the control files missing.
    thanks in advance,
    ramesh.

    Probably you are missing value for db_name (or missing parameter db_name) in parameter file.
    Note you can still create db manualy (without DBCA).

  • Oracle spatial install

    Hi
    I am trying to install oracle spatial on oracle 11gR2 without dbca.
    After searching google, i started installing Java first with following sql.
    initjvm.sql
    initxml.sql
    xmlja.sql
    catjava.sql
    catexf.sql
    When i execute initjvm.sql, i got space issues on tablespace.
    After resolving space issues, i again executed initjvm.sql, now there is ORA - 29510 error.
    I checked dba_registry, the output is given below.
    comp_id      version                   status
    XDB              11.2.0.1.0              VALID
    JAVAVM                                      LOADING
    Please help me.

    Don,
    Why in the world would you do that? If you can't use a gui over the network, you could always make a script on a local box then use that remotely.

  • How to create another instance on linux without using dbca?

    I have an oracle database (or instance) named viton1 on my linux.
    Now I want to create another instance (or database) named viton2 on my linux without using dbca.
    I know I can create a database by runing a sql script : create database ......
    But my problem is:
    before I can run the script for create database, I must startup nomount database.
    Before I can startup nomount the instance, I have to connect the instance.
    So I do it:
    $sqlplus /nolog
    sql > conn sys/password as sysdba;
    sql >
    then I connected to viton1, that's not what I expected.
    In order not to connect to viton1, I set ORACLE_SID=viton2. Then it show error: insufficient privilege.
    Who can tell me the right way to create another database without using dbca?
    Thanks in advance.

    In $ORACLE_BASE/admin you should have a directory structure for the viton1 instance : create a similar directory structure for the viton2 instance.
    In the pfile subdirectory create the initviton2.ora file : you can copy it from initviton1.ora file and change all occurrences of viton1 to viton2.
    At OS prompt : export ORACLE_SID=viton2, then
    sqlplus /nolog
    conn / as sysdba
    startup nomount pfile=$ORACLE_BASE/admin/viton2/pfile/initviton2.ora
    then CREATE DATABASE.....

  • DBConsole Port Assignments by DBCA

    We are using dbca to install several training instances on a server. This server has been used in the past as a database machine with DBConsole running on it. When DBCA creates the database the port for Database Control is set and seems to increment based on the old databases.
    Is there a way to set this and not let the DBCA auto-increment the setting? Or where can I find where it is pulling the last port used so I can reset that?

    On a Windows system, check the Registry settings under HKLM_Software. Oracle sometimes does not clean up the registry settings the way you expect.
    The other possibility is in the inventory data kept at c:\program files\oracle.
    If you are doing an uninstall and reinstall of the system, you can manually dump all the Oracle registry keys after the uninstall and physically delete the directory on the C drive, then perform the install.
    I don't have the equivalent information for a UNIX system.
