DBERROR. server won't deliver mail locally.

Our mail server here at the school (dual 1.33 G4 Xserve running 10.4.9) has stopped delivering mail locally. when i look at the logs it looks like it gets hung up transferring mail from the SMTP to the LMTP. Outgoing mail seems to still work fine. In the mail logs I'm getting these messages a lot:

I've read online about creating a DB_CONFIG file for the cyrus database to increase the cache size... It was at 60K before I started tinkering. It's now up to 120MB and I have set it many places in between and nothing seems to help. After I restart the service it will deliver about 10-20 messages and then start deferring them saying that a "connection was refused (connection to 127.0.0.1)"
Does anyone know how to fix this?

I have not made any changes.
We are currently not using any SSL for mail. I've double-checked the Server Admin settings and it is turned off.

  • Mail Server Will Not Deliver Mail

    I can connect with to the mail sever with a mail client, and see delivered mail up to this past Wednesday, but any new mail sent to any account on the server seems to get swallowed up. Except for a single spam mail with the title "JavaChief Info Request" which my mail client tags as junk.
    At first it had what appeared to be a database corruption, and I could not see accounts in the admin, so I rebuilt it. Now I can see the existing accounts. If I make a new account with the Workgroup Manager and give it mail capabilities, that account does not show up in the Mail admin.
    Because I only have 8 accounts, I'm read to just reformat the whole machine and start over. I don't want to do that because there's 6 months worth of data on the machine.
    I keep this particular Mac in my office, basically for internet access and to run my Mail services. So there's some personal data and Applications on the machine that can mostly be recovered with TimeMachine. But that's a time consuming project I'd rather not take on.
    BTW, the problems seemed to occur shortly after doing a system update last week to 10.5.4

    PS: Could it be possible that my service provider is blocking incoming traffic? But then why would this one source be able to deliver mail messages?

  • Mail + Exchange IMAP Server won't send mail

    Any help would be appreciated!-
    My university just switched over to Exchange 2007 for our mail servers, and since the change occurred, I can receive my mail just fine with the IMAP settings they provided. The problem occurs when I attempt to send mail; the server rejects my password (which I know is correct) and will not send any mail. I've also put below the link that the university has provided for students to set up their mail accounts within. I called IT, and they said that Mail wouldn't work until Apple updated their program, which didn't seem right to me because I'm sure that I would see more people complaining than just me. I am on campus, which would also eliminate the need for using the available VPN client.
    Can any of you see maybe what settings they may have missed mentioning to us loyal mac fans on campus?
    Their guide for connecting mail is located at:
    https://servicenow.ou.edu/kbview.do?sysid=0f8482a87f000001012772bc7e347fb6
    Thank You for any help you may provide!

    Jimmy,
    Many email providers do not allow emails to be sent on their outgoing servers when the user is outside of their network as an anti-spam protection. This may explain why you were able to send mail from your school account when you were on your school's Wi-Fi connection, but not on your home connection or EDGE. You may want to check with your school's email provider to verify this is the case.
    In the meantime, this article has some good troubleshooting steps and alternatives that you can use so that you will be able to send mail when you are away from your school's Wi-Fi network:

    Hope this helps,
    Jennifer B.

  • Server won't send mail in the queue

    Hi,
    I have a mail server running on Mac OS X Server 10.4 running at my home on an ADSL connection. I am able to receive mail just fine, but when I try to send mail, it will not leave the outgoing mail queue on the server with the error boiling down to not being able to connect to the recipient's mail server. I am I am using DynDNS to point my domain to my IP address. Is something funky about my DNS? Maybe reverse DNS or anything like that? I've tried a lot of different settings, and I can't seem to get this to work. Thanks!

    Ok, so I added the instructions for an authenticated postfix relay to an email server I know that works. The procedure I followed is here: http://postfix.state-of-mind.de/patrick.koetter/smtpauth/smtpauthmailservers.html
    However, I'm still getting the same error...maybe I didn't configure something properly. I found nothing related to SASL in the main.cf file, so I added the settings somewhere in the middle. Here's the error log:

  • Smtp server won't send mail from the office, works fine at home...

    Ugggg... AOL!!! I can't send my emails from my Mac Mail program using my aol account from the office. This works fine from other connections. I am wireless at work and at home and elsewhere all the time and don't have a problem. I CAN'T send out using smtp.aol.com from the office, using my aol account and passord in the preferences etc. I've worked out of this office in the past and didn't have a problem but haven't been able to send out all week...

    Welcome to the Discussions.
    Many ISP are blocking the use of any third party SMTP, sometimes even when presented on Port 587 (I presume you are using Port 587?) -- could it be that the ISP connecting the office, has changed policy?

  • Certain mail won't come in off the server to my Mac Mail

    Certain emails won't come in to my Mac Mail off the Time Warner Servers. (TW is intotally unhelpful and say it's my Mac Mail settings, even though some of the senders have come in before with no problem. Newer people have a hard time getting through, even though, I put them in the address book of both the TW server, and in Mac Mail.
    I also set a preference to "allow" them in both filters section  And I'll hear a "ding" when mail arrives from this person, but while I can go see it on the TW server, it doesn't come into the Mac Mail.
    It's like it's trying (the ding) but what happens to the message?
    thanks for any info you can give.

    thanks for your help... but I've deleted all my iPhone mail accounts and reentered them. The phone then proceeded to re-download all the messages from the server...except for the same ones it wouldn't before! I'm mystified. I called ATT and they didn't know what to do either. Time Warner doesn't know either.
    I've got them in my address books as well...
    Any more ideas?

  • How do I configure OS X Server (Mountain Lion) to deliver mail from another domain to my mailbox?

    How do I configure OS X Server (Mountain Lion) to deliver mail from another domain to my mailbox?
    I run a personal Server at my office. It's configured under my own domain as server.mydomain.com. It's setup that it properly receives and sends e-mail for mydomain.com. I use my own mailbox [email protected] to get all my personal mail.
    I'm looking to add another domain as a secondary way for people to get to my content and information.
    I want the same address [email protected] and [email protected] to arrive in the same mailbox at my server.
    How do i do that?

    it does look like you can add virtual domains in the GUI of Server.app on at least some versions, but I don't have an OS X Server 10.8 version handy to check.
    I'd encourage spending some time to learn the command line.  In general, the payoff for learning the command line will be worth the effort expended.  You're running a mail server here and sooner or later the capabilities of the GUI will fail you.  This whether due to a configuration omission in the GUI itself, or due to the need to troubleshoot a malfunctioning mail server, a need to automate one or more of the Postfix-related sequences, or some other IT-related task.  Entirely FWIW, of course.
    Here's a cut-and-paste of the sequence just used to test the command line access to the Postfix configuration, first fetching the current value, appending example.com as the second domain, then displaying the new value, then restarting the Postfix server.  Don't enter the dollar signs; just the postconf command and following.  Adjust example.com to match your domain...
    $ postconf mydestination
    mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, localhost
    $ sudo postconf -e 'mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, localhost, example.com'
    Password: {your admin password here}
    $ postconf mydestination
    mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, localhost, example.com
    $ sudo postfix reload
    The Postfix and Postconf commands work irrespective of the OS X Server version; the tools reference the data files as needed.

  • Mail server fails to deliver message. Port 25 times out

    I have a .mac account, my ISP is telecable.es.
    Can't send any messages, they stay in out box. I receive following error message: "The outgoing mail server mail.telecable.es failed to deliver this message. The connection to server "mail.telecable.es" on port 25 timed out"
    I've already tried port 587, it doesn't work either.
    Any help available?
    Thanks in advance,
    Don Guillermo

    OK, that helps narrow things down. What you may need to do is enable password for logon. When I am in Canada my ISP is Shaw Cable. However, my email server is in the US. In the US when connected to my cable ISP I have no problem connecting to my email servers. However, Shaw Cable in Canada does not permit remote use of another mail server to send mail. So in order to use the SMTP server of my US hosted account I must use my username and password when using my US SMTP mail server.
    Open Mail preferences, click on Accounts icon in the toolbar, then select your account and click on the Account Information tab. In the drop down menu at the bottom select "Edit the list." Select your SMTP server for your .Mac mail account (smtp.mac.com, I think.) Click on the Advanced tab, then select Password in the Authentication drop down menu. Enter you .Mac username and password. See if this works.
    If the above doesn't work, then you need to try assigning the SMTP server address of your telecable provider (I don't know if you also need to enable authentication) and select this server as the SMTP server for your .Mac mail account.

    Contact whoever manages your email server and ask them what ports and security to use for SMTP from remote locations. ISPs and email admins often require different SMTP settings when sending email when not connected to the server's or ISP's network.

    I agree with LowLister, the best option for you to share the video online is to upload it to your online storage account for example : Box, Dropbox, SkyDrive (All of them provide free storage beginning from 2GB).
    You can upload the files which you want to share in this online storage and then they have sharing options in which you'll will get the link of the file to be sent and send the email. You're good to go!
    Tip : You can store multiple files for backup purposes.

    I'm using ipad2 with ios5. My outbox won't send mail. I guess i need an outgoing server and can't find it anywhere. Any suggestions on how to get it to send. I have tried everything, rebooting, ensuring passwords are correct, etc.

    My problem is i don't have an outgoing server spot on my menu.  These are my selections. After getting to the menu that where i enter my password for hotmail, i have the following menu choices:  Email, then server (bay-m.hotmail.com, then domain (empty), then username, then password, thendescription, then Use SSL, then S/MIME
    I don't see or can find an outgoing server choice. My daughter has an ipad2 using Ios4 and she has all the choices that are illustrated on. All the help sites. I only have the ones listed above.

  • ICal Server won't send invites to e-mail addresses

    Set up a new 10.7.2 Server, enabled OD, added 6 users. Set up iCal Server, everything works fine between OD users. Problem is when you try to share a calendar with an e-mail address for someone outside the company, iCal comes back with "The server returned an error" and "Mail gateway didn't find a token in message" shows up in the iCal Server log.
    We created a new dedicated e-mail account on their mail server (hosted by their ISP, not by the server I just installed) and put all the info into the iCal settings in the Server app. As far as I can tell that part is working. I also tried creating a Gmail account, but I get the same errors.
    Google hasn't been much help. Only reference to the token error was from someone else's calendar server application, and wanted me to edit caldavd.plist (I checked the settings there just in case, and it all is correct.)
    The server is hostings DNS for itself, but all other DNS info is being provided by their Airport Extreme.
    -Z

    Today I reloaded the server in question. Downloaded 10.7.3 via the Recovery Partition, restored the OD archive, and tried to set up iCal. I have exactly the same problem.
    I set up a calendar on a Lion client, and try to set it to share with someone who has an OD account. The sharing dialog closes, but no invite is ever sent. If I try to share with someone who is not in OD, I get error messages in the server log.
    An entire afternoon of Googling shows a lot of people are having the same problem. Best I can tell, it seems to happen if your e-mail server is hosted elsewhere, as if iCal Server assumes that the mail server is on the same Mac. This is not the case with this setup. Their web page and domain are hosted outside as well, but we have a DNS entry made so server.domain.com forwards to the Mac Mini server inside their office. We've tested this for VPN, Remote Desktop, and FileMaker access, and all work fine.
    I've tried two types of configurations, neither of which is working.
    1. Created an [email protected] account with their mail host. I used that outside mail server information for IMAP / SMTP settings, but every time I try to share a calendar the iCal error log shows IMAP login errors. Their mail server does not use SMTP authentication. They have the option to use SSL or not, but neither work.
    2. Used [email protected], and used the default localhost server info. I then tried to set up the server's built in Mail server to forward mail to their outside mail host. This started giving me
    [mailgateway] 2012-04-05 19:51:05-0400 [IMAP4DownloadProtocol,client] Unhandled unsolicited response: ['OK', ['HIGHESTMODSEQ', '1'], 'Highest']
    I now get that error no matter what I do, meaning something broke again.
    I've gone through several Google pages referring to greylisting, the postfix, etc, but since the server is not running a Mail server, none of these apply.
    I have no idea what I am doing wrong. Lion has been out a year, surely in that time this has been worked out. So why can't I find a solution? Everywhere I look it's either a thread starting out with the same problem I am having, followed by a dozen or so "me too" posts, or it's someone saying they managed to make it work, but their fix doesn't work for me. I'm really frustrated right now, and so is my customer.
    Oh, almost forgot... now we have a new problem. FileMaker Admin requires access to port 16000, but for whatever reason the server is blocking that port. It's not running a firewall. Good to know that reloading causes more problems than it solves.
