[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (ParseConnectParams().]Invalid connection on server 2008 R2
I am getting the above error when trying to instal the WSUS role on a Windows Server 2008 R2. I put in the ServerName\Instance just like the wizard asks but I get the Invalid Connection error above. I can make an ODBC connection to the server just fine.
The account I am using to install WSUS has an SQL login with sysadmin role and rights to the master db. This server is going to replace a WSUS running on server 2003 and I want to use the same SQL server that one is using. I can connect to port 1433 fine with
telnet so I am really lost at this point.
Any idea's?
..AR
Hi AR,
Is the SQL server installed on the same computer?
If yes, please check if the named pipe has been enabled on the SQL server.
If no, please check the event log of the SQL server. We may find the reason why the connection was denied.

Hi Shahzad,
>>how to connect sql server 2008 r2 sp2 with visual studio 2013 ultimate?
Based on your issue, if you wan to connect the sql server 2008 r2 sp2 from VS2013 IDE. I suggest you can try the Ammar and darnold924's suggestion to check your issue.
In addition, I suggest you can also refer the following steps to connect the sql server 2008 r2 sp2 with visual studio 2013 ultimate.
Step1: I suggest you can go to VIEW->SQL Server Object Explorer->Right click SQL Server->Add SQL Server.
Step2: After you connect the SQL Server 2008 r2 sp2 fine, I suggest you can go to VIEW->Server Explorer-> right click the Data Connection->Add Connection.
And then you can create the connect string in the Add Connection dialog box.
Hope it help you!

Need to connect SQL Server 2008 and CR 2008 via OLE DB SQL Server Provider
I am relatively new to Crystal but have done some minor design/layout work in the past. I just purchased CR 2008 and dowloaded a Eval Copy of SQL Server 2008 to build test reports that will then be uploaded to a hosted web app we use for use with live data.
I am having some trouble, however, getting SQL server and CR 08 to talk the way I need them to. We have to use the OLE DB for SQL Server Provider connection for the reports to work in our hosted live environment but I cannot get this to work on SQL 2008. The server never appears in the Server dropdown and if I manually type it get the following error:
failed to open connection.
Detail ADO Error Code: 0x80004005
Source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server
Description: [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access is denied.
SQL State: 08001
Native Error: 17 [Database Vendor Code: 17 ]
I am setting up the connection through the Database Expert choosing the OLE DB (ADO) folder and then selecting 'Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server' then entering my server name, user id, password, and Database name.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled everything twice. I have installed the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Analysis Service 10.0 OLEDB Provider pack.
My provider/host does use SQL Server 2005 but since I can't get a free Evaluation version of it I have to use 2008 for my local copy. I have searched the web over (including here) and cannot find an answer to my issue.
I cannot use SQL Server Express version because our copy of the DB is too big. I cannot use the Native 10 provider as the reports will not work once I have uploaded them to the live data.
any help anyone can provide for this would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you and sorry if this is a dupe post. I have searched everywhere and cannot find the answer.Hello,
Go to Microsoft's site and download their OLE DB test tool and test the connection. Did you install the MS client tools to test the connection also?
As a test try creating an ODBC System DSN just to verify you can connect and create a report also.
And don't use the SA account, MS 2008 disabled it, sort of, so you'll have to create a new account and grant permissions to any table you need to use.
SQL 2008 changed security model big time so it's not the same as 2005 once was....
Good luck

I'm configuring a Server, running Windows Server 2008, to be accessed remotely. Suppose no user is logged in in the server (if it was just turned
on, for instance). Can I use the "Remote Desktop Connection" feature to log in remotely in this case? Or is it always necessary to have a user locally logged in, to remotely log in to one of the users available?If its a fresh installation, RDM might not work at first.
1. You need to check firewall and allow Remote Desktop. To be specific, communication to port 3389 TCP
2. Right click My Computer --> Properties --> Remote tab
Enable Remote Desktop
Allow connections to this computer
Click users and grant the permissions for the users. By default, Administrators do have the permission. An also, the users who are members of the 'Remote Desktop Users' security group also have the permission -

I also created a dmp-file mstsc.dmp but i cannot open it for some reason :(
(can anyone tell me which settings i have to apply to open it with windbg? i inserted SRV*C:\Windows\symbol_cache*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols @ "Symbol File Path" any other parameters missing? [first time using windbg ;)])
We already tried to resolve the problem with other measures like reinstall graphics driver, deactivate sound & printer mapping in the mstsc-options, deactivate the grpahiccard etc..
Thanks for your help!Hi,
According to your description, we could try to fix that user profile for test:
Create a new user account and transfer the profile data.
Please follow the steps below to do that:
1. Open the Windows Explorer.
2. Click on View tab and Click on Options at the top right corner.
3. Click the View tab, and then click Show hidden files, folders, and drives.
4. Uncheck the box which states Hide protected operating system files.
5. Click Yes to confirm, and then click OK.
6. Locate the C:\Users\Old_Username folder, where C is the drive that Windows is installed on, and Old Username is the name of the profile you want to copy files from.
7. Select all of the files and folders in this folder, except the following files:
•Ntuser.dat
•Ntuser.dat.log
•Ntuser.ini
8. Right click and Select Copy.
9. Locate the C:\Users\New_Username folder, where C is the drive that Windows is installed on, and New Username is the name of the new user profile you created.
10. Right click inside the folder and select Paste.
11. Restart your PC and check if you are able to log in to default profile.

Connect Win Server 2008 R2 AD to linux ldap server
I have the need to do the opposite of what I am finding most users doing. Instead of connecting a remote linux ldap client to a windows server 2008 Active Directory server I need to connect my windows server AD to my linux ldap server. Once this connection
has been established I need for a user to be able to log in to the windows server and have their home directory on the linux box be mounted and available for the user to access their home directory and files.
I have also heard there might need to be some changes done on the ldap schema on the linux server to satisfy the windows AD. Is this true?
Does anyone have any information on how to configure the windows server (2008 R2) to do this? I am under the gun, time-wise, to get this implemented and working correctly. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.Hello,
please ask in your Linux LDAP forums to get these details.
If you have an AD question then please ask it here.

Connecting SQL Server 2008 + CF8 mac
Hello,
I am currently porting all of our access databases to SQL Server 2008 and i am using a mac for development. If anyone can tel me how to connect sql server database from the cfadmin on mac to a virtual environment on parallels 5. In the cfadmin on mac SQL Server is listed as a kown datasource you can connect to but the only way i see to do this is thru a virtual environment or remote.
Please help
Thanks,
DHaving not used Parallels in some time I couldn't say for sure, but essentially that SQL engine needs to be accessible from Coldfusion on an IP address somewhere. Depending on what networking mode you're using, that'll either be:
1 - Its own IP
2 - Localhost, or 127.0.0.1
As long as your ColdFusion instance has network access to the SQL box, there's no additional config required.

Creating dynamic database connection (SQL server 2008) from Adf application
Hello,
I am creating an ADF Fusion Application. I use Jdev. 11.1.2.3.0 , WebLogic 10.3 and MS SQL server 2008 database. My question is that how can I create a database connection configuration file, now I connect to the database through hard coding, there should be a way to do this with sql server I think.
my database name is : testDatabase
my database username is : testUser
my database password is : testPassword
Anybody can help me please.
Thanks,
ShaheHello Frank,
The database schema is the same for all the users, but the location of the database differs, for example: I have set the hostname of the database to localhost because the database is installed on the local pc, but to other clients the database is installed on a managed server so in the hostname I should put the server's ip address or name. So I need an external file where I can set these options.
Thanks,
Shahe -
Why i can not use dbco to connect sql server 2008?
Dear Experts,
i use this mehtod to link sql server 2005 :MSSQL_SERVER=tcp:mysqlserver IP MSSQL_DBNAME=SubConPayment,
it is ok,when i use this method to link sql server 2008 with dbco,it is not ok,can you tell me why i can not link to sql server2008 in sap with dbco?
looking forward to your reply.
Best regards,
MerryHi Merry,
Seems that you have to add the "provider" attribute to the connectionstring. Please have a look at the following link: [http://www.connectionstrings.com/sql-server-2008#p2]

Windows 7 client can't connect to Server 2008 R2 Print Server VM (ESXi 5.5)
I have an issue today that is driving me bonkers.
I recently came on-board to a company in my area as the system administrator and this network has everything and the kitchen sink wrong with the network layout, probably the worst I've seen and I'm slowly but surely fixing it day by day.....
Well today I decided I was going to spin up another VM from a template and make a Print Server, seems harmless right? --- I thought so too, added all of the printers to the server and did test pages, all was dandy, but then I tried to add the printers to
clients and other server and the real fun has begun, I'm truly perplexed now...
I added a VM to my esxi 5.5 cluster at work that is a 2008 R2 server with only print management on it. I can map all of the printers on the network to the print server as-well as install the drivers correctly and I can resolve the IP and server name via
DNS. I can test printers directly from the print server successfully printing out test pages however whenever I try to map printers you know from the directory in 'devices and printers' from any of the Windows 7 clients or any of the other 2003/2008 servers
I get the classical "Windows cannot connect please check the network connection and make sure sure the printer is turned on". I disabled the windows firewall and I made the point to print GPO set to disabled and still no luck. Again I can print to
all of the printers internally inside of the VM (so I know it communicating to all of the printers), I just can't connect to the printers listed in the directory on any of external desktop/client, it's like so annoying. spent about 6 hours until my brain just
couldn't think anymore, was about to go BS on the VM.
The only thing I can think of, as I was driving home, is that there is a GPO on one of the DC that has a desginated print server policy set. But prior to last week the forest leve was 2000 and now it's 2003. I just don't know Server 2000 enough to know if GPO's
worked in the same way they do in 2003.
Right now printers are connected to other servers in a ad hoc mentality it seems, there has never been a true print server.
Anyone ever have this problem before?
I'm truly puzzled...Hi Mid.Hudson-IT,
Before we begin ,we should ensure we have configured the printer server correctly .
Here is a link for reference of configuring the printer server .
Print server role: Configuring a print server
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc775791(v=ws.10).aspx
"I can map all of the printers on the network to the print server as-well as install the drivers correctly and I can resolve the IP and server name via DNS"
From this sentence ,I can`t figure out whether you have tried to ping the server both with the IP adress and name adress from the client ?
If we can ping the print server from the client,we can ensure the connection to the printer server is good .
Then we can try to install the printer driver directly to have a check .In the adress bar of Windows Explorer ,input "\\server name \the printer name"
If we cannot ping the print server ,we should troubleshoot the network issue firstly.
We also can check the event viewer for more information to troubleshoot this issue .

Issues in Connecting SQL Server 2008 to BI om Solaris
Hi ,
I am trying to Connect a Standalone SQL Server to a BI System on UNIX Via UD Connect . Both SQL Server and BI System are on the Same Network ( Subnet ) .
I have Deployed the JDBC Drivers in BI Via Visual Administrator
PATH :- Server --> Services --> JDBC Connector
Then , in VIsual Admin in CONNECTOR COntainer , I copied the SDK_JDBC and Created another Connector SDK_JDBC1 which Connects to SQL Server
In the Properties I have Maintained the Following Parameters :-
DriverName :- com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver
URL :- jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://<SQLServer_HOST>:1433;DatabaseName=<SID>
User :- Username which Authenticates to SQL Server and NOT WINDOWS
Password :- Password Of the User
I have not BOUNCED the JAVA Stack .
Now , when I test the Connection via URL http://<FQDN>/TestJDBC_Web/TestJDBCPage.jsp
and I Select SDK_JDBC1 , I get the Following Errors .
I am giving extract of Error of BI_SDK_Trace.log and DefaultTrace Log

GiloHello,
What you request can be done with DB Connect.
A good starting point is the following link :
[http://help.sap.com/saphelp_NW04/helpdata/en/58/54f9c1562d104c9465dabd816f3f24/content.htm|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_NW04/helpdata/en/58/54f9c1562d104c9465dabd816f3f24/content.htm]
Also I recommend to search further on SDN because there are some interesting posts on connecting BW to external databases like SQL Server.

How to connect java project to sql server 2008 r2 database
i want to create an java application which has to create a database and later access it. My problem is that i am not able to connect sql server 2008 r2 database driver on to the netbeans.i have sql server 2008 r2 installed on my system.please
suggest me the step by step procedure to establish the connectionHi ENG,
To establish a connection to SQL Server from a Java project, you have to download the JDBC driver for SQL Server from
here.
After extracting the jar files(like sqljdbc.jar) from the above link, add the driver to the netbeansIDE.
Test establishing a connection with the below Java Class.
import java.sql.*;
public class Test {
public static void main(String[] srg) {
String driverName = "com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver"; //load the jdbc driver
String dbURL = "jdbc:sqlserver://localhost:1433; DatabaseName=test"; //connection string to the db hosted on localhost
String userName = "sa"; //user name
String userPwd = "123456"; //password
Connection dbConn;
try {
Class.forName(driverName);
dbConn = DriverManager.getConnection(dbURL, userName, userPwd);
System.out.println("Connection Successful!"); //print Connection Successful! if connection establishes
} catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace();

How to connect to Windows 2008 VPN server with certificate support
Unfortunatelly if I select any Windows 2008 server compatible protocol (PPTP, L2TP) I cannot select PKI certificate, its only available for Cisco VPN. Yet my company has 1000 laptops and utilizing Windows 2008 Server for VPN (Cisco is too expensive and unnecessary because VPN is part of Windows Server). PKI certificate is required for connection security.
Any plans to enable certificates for PPTP or L2TP in 2.1 firmware? Even better would be to add SSTP protocol with certificate support, because it takes only one standard TCP connection (https) per user (uses least possible NAT resources for heavy loaded NATed WiFi spots). Also in some public places https is the only option to connect as PPTP and L2TP are filtered.Hi Shahzad,
>>how to connect sql server 2008 r2 sp2 with visual studio 2013 ultimate?
