Dc input socket/board

My ibook g4 1.33ghz 14 inch is not charging and the fault is the dc in board. If I push the power connector into the socket very firmly the it charges but otherwise it doesn't so the fault is internal.
How can i remove the case without the special tool spudger. any ideas?

Hey kiwao,
Instead of a spudger I use a black nylon prop from the hobby shop. I cut it in two and wrap the cut ends with self fusing electrical tape. My particular one is 7" in length (uncut) and says G/F 3 series Master Airscrew. I insert the tip into the seam and slide it along at an angle depending on which piece the hooks are on. I wouldn't attempt the removal of the bottom case with out it.
It's also very useful working on iPods, digital camera cases et al.
If I push the power connector into the socket very firmly the it charges
When you remove the lower case and the lower shield, you can pull out the DC in board (one screw). Look very closely at the solder connections on the input socket. You'll probably find they're cracked. If you're fairly adept at soldering you can redo those connections. I just had one in my shop like that.
Also if you need more info on procedures you can email me.

  • Equium M50-164 Power Input socket - pin polarity

    I am looking to buy a voltage converter to be able to run my Equium on board my boat from a 12v supply.
    I need to know whether the pin in the centre of the power input socket is positive or negative.
    Can anyone advise please?

    Hello
    Here it is a user to user forum and I think in this case you should contact an ASP. Here you will not find a notebook technician that can tell you something about the pin polarity.
    On the Toshiba website you can search for the nearest ASP:

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
    We just recently had to have one of our Powerbooks repaired (A 15" 1.67Ghz model). The DC-in card, which contains the female socket the power adapter plugs into, was $120 parts and labor to replace, which was service done in the Apple store. Turns out the issue was the logic board, and they sent it out to the Apple depot for $325. They replaced the logic board, as well as some case parts. They told me at the store if they replaced the logic board in the store the cost would have been more than double that. Don't know if they handle repairs the same in UK, however, perhaps that gives you some ideas.

  • Socket input stream

    ok, here it is...
    A socket must recieve bytes,...how can I check if input is empty (doesn't contain any byte)
    e.g:
    while(input byte is available ){
    }

    That code doesn't work because sockets doesn't work like that.
    "how can I check if input is empty "
    You can't.
    You should send a message which means "end of file" and the last number of bytes read. After writing arrays(that you read) to the socket you should send this message to inform the client about EOF.
    And on the client side you should check the "end of file" message in a loop.
    Also when reading from socket stream you read primitive types like int,byte,long with readInt(),readByte(),readLong methods and you read any object with readObject() method of the ObjectInputStream object. So you must cast the objects(that you read from the socket) to a byte array in your example.Like:
    InputStream input=socket.getInputStream();
    ObjectInputStream objIn = new ObjectInputStream(input);
    while{
    byte buffer[]=(byte[])objIn.readObject();
    //Process the buffer
    But I recommend you to write a class which has a byte array, an attribute for the number of bytes read, 2nd attribute stating if EOF is reached and the neccessary methods. The upper one is not a good practice because you must check if the recieved bytes are array or an EOF message with if statements. With the new class you always send the same object from the server and when client recieves the object it should cast the Object to the prior class then client can check if it is EOF or not,...etc

  • Upgrading from K9A2 to AM3: What board for Win2k?

    I know that anything having to do with Digital Rights Management won't work with Win2k, but I was wondering which AM3 socket board would offer "pretty good" support for Win2k in terms of drivers.
    In some instances there's simply no Win2k driver download available, and I don't know if the installer immediately barfs on Win2k systems, or if you could unpack drivers individually so that ALMOST everything would work.
    I'm using Windows 2000 Server to access all four cores ...
    Note:  I'm not a gamer and not heavy into multi-media stuff, so more basic audio/video operation would be OK.

    Quote from: Fredrik on 10-March-11, 23:22:11
    Isn't it better to trim your current system for what W2000 likes best, office work and networking maybe, and have a separate system for media handling, gaming and such? I imagine this would amount to less money and work and difficulties.
    My problem at the moment is just locating any AM3 mainboard with ANY chipset drivers for Win2k.
    I hate activation / "phoning home" to M$, so I've avoided upgrading to XP.
    I know that XP Pro would give me support for the cores I have and most any chipset. It looks like I could go that route pretty cheaply, but I don't know how ugly it would be to put a non-server OS over top of a server installation, even though I'm just using Win2k Server as a fast workstation.
    I've also considered crossing over to some flavor of Linux and running windows apps under WINE (whatever). I've had very modest Linux experience years ago, and don't know how much of a nightmare that change would be.
    I like the idea of having a 64-bit OS some day, but I've always been afraid that any newer version of Windows would be so bloated compared to the older ones that any added performance gains would be more than offset by the snails pace of the OS / "new and improved" apps ...
    I've loved Win2k because it was the first version of the OS where USB support REALLY worked, and the kernel was relatively light and fast compared to what followed.
    Thinking about getting everything to work all over again on a new platform makes me CRINGE, and I've been at this for decades!

  • Satellite 2410-414 soundcard input mono or stereo?

    Is there a way to record in stereo from an external sound source using the yamaha ac-xg soundcard? Is there a way to activate the line-in in the audio and volume settings? Can the input socket be set up for stereo recording or does it only record in mono?
    Cheers

    A three-conductor mini jack would suggest stereo possibilities. However, even stereo microphones record in mono.
    So does this mean: no external stereo recording possible?
    There's no out of the way setting to change?
    Anybody found a compatible USB or firewire interface that enables stereo recording? (M-Audio, Presonus, Creative?)

  • K7N2G-ILSR: On-board video too unstable to use

    Putting together a new computer for my son.  Using K7N2G-ILSR and was really looking forward to the onboard video.  Using Athlon XP 2100 (from my prior machine -- 100 percent solid CPU) and initially bought Corsair 2700 256MB with the new board.  As an immediate downer, the board refused to work with the memory (nonstop beeping/D-LED stuff, etc.) at power up (tried all slots -- same result).  Observation: this compares very unfavorably with my highly-favorable experience with Soyo boards, by the way.  Swapped out that memory with Kingston 2700 256MB from my daughter's machine, which is running Soyo Dragon Lite.
    Ok, so after some immediate (and unnecessary) memory hassle, got system to boot.  CPU is running fine and cool at 50 deg C.
    Next (BIG, BIG) problem: Onboard Video is WAY, WAY too unstable in Windows 2000 to be usable.  At the outset, the video is showing random horizontal streaks (of trash) across the screen.  The only time I've seen that before in my 15 years of PC use is in a Diamond video card a long time ago that was also defective.  However, I can live with streaks.  The problem is that the machine crashes every time, 100 percent of the time, within 15-90 seconds of booting into Windows 2000 (SP3).  (Of course, used latest video driver from a web site, different settings, different refresh rates, and all the other usual stuff, etc., etc., etc.)  By the way, I had the patience to try this with and without SP3, and tried a zillon different bios settings.  Nothing worked -- same immediate crash problem.  Also booted into safe mode and same deal -- but at least that confirms that the problem is probably underlying hardware-related problem, not software/driver problem.  (If it can't run under generic Windows VGA driver, then it probably can't run under anything  else.)
    Only solution is to swap in an existing AGP card.  That solves the problem 100 percent but I am not exactly happy camper since I paid for the on-board video (and for budget reasons the card that I am swapping in is not exactly cutting-edge.)
    If anyone has a silver bullet fix for this, I would love to hear it.  Otherwise, I will assume that the onboard AGP is defective and/or poorly designed, whereupon I would have been better off not spending the extra money for it.  My best guess is that the memory and/or other video circuitry is defective.
    Otherwise, happy with the underlying performance of the motherboard itself but the video fiasco is a BIG letdown. :O
    Thanks.

    SILVER BULLET FOUND!!! (and it was free)  BIG, BIG, BIG cigar to Bikeman for his above post, which focused my attention on the BIOS.  Had considered it at the outset, but figured there was no way I was going to need to flash a brand spanking new board.  But when you read the BIOS update notes, one of its fixes is with Kingston memory which is currently in the board.  Recall from above, however, that Kingston was a fallback as board complained bitterly about the Corsair memory that I bought with the board.  (My daugher's Dragon Lite is quite happy with either memory.)
    So here's the rundown.  Actually couldn't see what bios ver. I had at POST as text went by way too fast.  So install live update software which confirmed that I had older v. 1.2 bios.  (Interestingly, the live update itself was old enough that it itself had to self-update before I could use).  Flashed BIOS to 1.3 using the Windows version of update, which I will report worked real smooth.
    Rebooted and proceeded to install fresh nVidia driver from nVidia website.  However, I can tell you that the BIOS was definitely the problem because before I wouldn't have been able to easily get to the point of installing video driver without 5-10 crash/reboot cycles -- so the new-found stability made it very clear that the BIOS update was the "silver bullet" I was looking for.
    Postscript impressions:  (1) MSI boards are VERY finiky about memory (which is a problem that I have never had with Soyo boards), and (2) this is the 2nd MSI board I have bought and the 2nd one that has had severe bios issues.  The first board was a low-end A socket board with AMI bios that arrived faulty/trashed -- half way thru POST, bios would start spitting out garbage ASCII characters.
    Again thanks again to Bikeman for saving me from spending any more money (on psu or other memory) and for letting my son's system now run 8X AGP.

  • Need help buying a logic board!!!

    Hi,
    So I posted a while back about my mac failing to boot up. Now I concluded it was the logic board that was faulty. I need help deciphering what the part numbers mean.
    My logic board part number is 630-6694/T6690 and model 820-1592-A. This came with the dual 2.0 ghz PPC970fx 90nm model (June 2004). There are boards with the same model number as mine, but different part number prefixes (i.e. 661-xxxx instead of 630-xxxx), so what does this mean????
    I would like to really get the latest motherboard that is still compatible with the processors, if that's possible? I have seen different dual socket boards like 820-1760-A, which I'm interested in since it is the Early 2005 model.
    Can anyone here with technical knowledge shed some light on what these model numbers and part numbers mean?
    Thanks!

    Hi, if it were me, I'd call one of these and see what'd work, I'm no expert but I hear G5s are really particular...

  • Sockets and system freezes

    I have a server written in C that uses sockets to get datagrams from my Java GUI "client" (i.e. a Java program on the same machine). In actuality the bulk of the C code is provided to me as an object file and uses PVM to communicate with a C client (on a different machine) that sends rendering information to it.
    Whenever I add the input sockets on the C server it seems to crash spontaneously and hang my system. Whenever I remove the socket initiliazation code (i.e. no socket code whatsoever) my computer does not crash.
    Does anyone know what's causing this? I know it's something related to sockets because the Java GUI that I invoke from C (without the sockets implemented) does not hang my linux box. It seemingly needs to be quite a big error to freeze linux entirely and not just stall a process in linux.
    What kind of errors using sockets usually cause systems to hang entirely?

    I guess these would be a better questions:
    1. Having conflicting ports will not cause systems to hang correct?
    2. Does anyone have experience with PVM? Would using PVM and adding custom sockets code cause conflicts that would hang a system?

  • Is it true that not one of MSI's P67 Chipset boards supports Quad SLI

    I received a message from MSI when I requested a list of LGA 1155 boards that support Quad SLI.  MSI stated that none of their 1155 socket boards support Quad SLI. I specifically bought my board because it was listed as a certified Quad SLI board in an article by Nvidia on "How to build a Quad SLI Rig" using 2 GTX 590s. Just a little disturbing if this is the case since I have been talking for pulling my hair out for 3 weeks and posting questions in this forum so that I could get a Quad SLI option in the Nvidia control panel and asking everyone for help. Just want to clarify that what this MSI employee is telling me is correct and that I would have to get a different CPU if I want to use MSI for Quad SLI or go to another MB Manufacturer (which I don't want to do).
    MSI Tech. 02/23/2012 none for 1155 socket.
    End User 02/23/2012 I am not asking you for technical support for my current board. I was asking for a recommendation based on my CPU which board is the best MSI makes that will support Quad SLI. MSI Tech. 02/23/2012 this is not the post sale technical support form, please use the proper support form from the following link: http://service.msicomputer.com/msi_user/ts_form.aspx ***this model of the mb only supports SLI, not QUAD SLI: http://us.msi.com/product/mb/P67A-GD65--B3-.html#/?div=Basic

    I believe there is a misunderstanding.  MSI seems to have their own terminology in which "2 GTX 590s" are not labeled "Quad-SLI" but actually "nVidia (Dual GPU) ( 2 way SLI)" as opposed to "nVidia (Single GPU) ( 2 way SLI)".
    This is the video card test list for your P67 board and if you scroll down you will see what I mean.  A 2x590GTX setup wasn't actually tested, but you can find 2x295GTX and 2x9800GX2 setups in the list:
    http://eu.msi.com/file/test_report/TR1_2313.pdf
    In MSI's terms, "Quad SLI" is reserved for setups with four actual cards and from this perspective Quad SLI is not supported on your mainboard model (there are only 2 PCI-E x 16 slots (connected to the CPU's PCI-E interface that will run as x8/x8 as the CPU only provides 16 PCI-E 2.0 lanes).
    I hope that clears things up for you.

  • Why would audio input level go very low?

    I'm sure I've done something dumb but I can't work out what it is. I'm recording with a mic into my laptop and the sound is really quiet.
    I've used this set-up loads of times without this problem: Audition CC, Rode shotgun videomic into MacBook Pro.
    Anyone know why the volume would now be so low please?

    In Audio Midi Setup the levels are greyed out, and in any case set high, at "Value = 0.917" and "dB = 10".
    We can rule this one out straight away - MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) has nothing whatsoever to do with this!
    Likewise, in Preferences > Sound the input level is near the top.
    I think that you need to find out what the input socket thinks it's doing here. What Bob is suggesting is that if it's a dual-purpose socket (ie it doubles up as either a line, or a mic, input), it's stuck on Line. And that's no good for a mic - far too insensitive. We're both a bit stuck at this point though, because it's a Mac you've got, and neither of us uses those...

  • Troubleshooting Ethernet socket

    My Airport card's been giving me fits, so I've tried to connect an ethernet cable to my router, but get no connectoin. The G4 keeps telling me there's no cable connected.
    When I connect the same cable to another device (Xbox), it works fine. This leads me to believe that my Ethernet socket/board is messed up. When I opened the terminal, the ethernet stuff is kinda buried.
    1) Is there software or something that will help diagnose and test the ethernet socket/board?
    2) Do I dare try to open things up and try to replace the ethernet myself?

    I'm working the ethernet issue because I've spent the better part of the last 3-4 months trying to get online with my Airport card. I'm the only Mac in a house full of PCs connecting via a Linksys wireless G router. The problem there is a rather "cyclical" signal level through the day. So, I'm trying to get online via ethernet until I can figure out the Airport card trouble.
    Because of all the garbage I've gone through with that problem, I've cycled computers, cycled routers, cycled cable modems, created, modified & discarded various Network Preferences, cycled router security & channels & settings. You name it, I've torn through everything except the card and the ethernet socket itself.
    There was a time last year when the ethernet worked. Now when I plug in, neither end gets a light. I've tried several different cords, setting configs...yada, yada, yada. The only thing I can think of is to somehow diagnose the hardware, but I don't know how to do that.
    I love my Mac, but it should be easier than this.

  • Input fields are all messed up as far as input is concerned.

    Nexus 10, Android 4.3
    If I respond to reddit threads there are times when I hit the text field and it shows a cursor, but as I type the text will not show. The text is being entered and I can see it in the keyboard suggestion. I have to blind type some text, hit the switch app menu and select Firefox again to see what I typed.
    It also has a hard time determining where the cursor actually is ( this text box I'm typing in just did this when I tapped a word to edit it ). If I try to move the cursor it seems to be stuck where it last was no matter how many times I click to move it. It visually appears to move, but if I start typing the text replaces or types where I last was. Swapping to the app selection screen and back seems to reset the cursor properly after I tap again.
    On top of that, there are times when I close a tab ( I know, not related to slowness,etc.) the content of the closed tab will show up overtop of the tab that should be showing.
    Also, it doesn't matter if I set the about:config flag the the smart bar or whatever it's called, touching tre page makes my tab bar slide closed and I want it to remain open like the last version.
    This latest version is just really bad and it's starting to piss me off!

    It normally happens after a while of replying and browsing. I normally read reddit and reply to multiple posts and after probably 5(?) replies it starts acting up. If I hit the switch app button and swipe Firefox away and reload it it will sometimes be fine for a bit. In fact, when I went to reply to this post, I think I may have had Firefox open last night and it opened the reply from email. Upon clicking on the login link, I had changed my password and needed to re-enter it. I selected the password field, entered my password and found out it wasn't showing the entry on screen. I hit switch apps, selected Firefox, and it showed that I just added my new password to the end of the old one. I selected the password field to clear it and the input key board wouldn't render. It covered half the screen like it was going to come up but it was plain black. Switching apps, swiping Firefox away, going to email and reopening the reply link brought Firefox back up and let me login and reply.
    TLDR; It seems like a memory leak of some sort. It mostly happens after a while of browsing and entering data in inputs. It's not just reddit. It happens on any page that has inputs.
    To add... normally when browsing reddit, I'll long press posts I want to read and open then in new tabs while I scroll down the page, when I get a few pages down, then I'll close the first tab and work my way down the open tabs replying here and there. I'm not sure if it's cause by that but when I witnessed the problem above, that was the only tab I had open... but I don't remember if I was using Firefox last night before going to sleep. (I've been getting frustrated with this bug and been trying the nightly and beta builds, which also act up). I've even resorted going back to Chrome for some browsing but it's bookmarking isn't as easy to use as the Firefox home page and I don't have all my session data there.
