Dc7700

We have a refurbished DC770 purchased approx. a year ago. It's been working perfectly until today.
A program we regularly use started crashing today so we attempted a system restore and received the "System Restore Could Not Be Completed" message. We tried other restore points and got the same message each time. Thought then we'd try to boot into Safe Mode to see if we could find out what was happening, but the F8 command didn't work - the machine would not boot into safe mode. After several tries, we got a "CMOS checksum invalid, default values loaded" error. A bit of searching the web indicated that the CMOS battery could have gone (the machine is 7 years old, after all), so we replaced it with a brand new spare we had, according to the directions in the HP service manual. (I should also say this is something we've done before on other machines we've had and never had a problem.)
Now at bootup, there is only a black screen with numbers in the upper left hand corner tallying the RAM.  When it gets to the total amount installed (2032 - 2GB ram), text appears saying that the configuration has changed since the last bootup and the hardware components are listed (memory, hard disk, CD drive). It also says to press F1 to save these changes, but pressing F1 does nothing. The screen just sits there. We've tried a couple different keyboards but the result is the same. The hard drive is functioning (we've connected it to another computer on site and transferred all files with no problems).
We have absolutely no idea what's going on; never seen anything like this before in any computer we've had or built. Any ideas? We'd hate to lose this machine over something silly...
Thanks!

Thanks Paul.
We've been using a P/S2 keyboard to no avail. I did pull the CMOS battery and the RAM last night and tried to get at it that way with no luck. However, when I reinstalled the RAM and battery it went through the sequence outlined above and actually did something when I hit F1 to save the configuration. It then went through the entire boot sequence, arriving at the Windows log-in screen. Rather than log-in, I shut down and re-started. This time I saw the blue HP screen then it went back to the same black screen we've been seeing since this started.
We've given up. Luckily, there's a Square Trade warranty on it so we'll at least get the $ back.

  • Dc7700 Booting randomly // BIOS error

    Hey!
I am having trouble with my dc7700 computer, it has started booting randomly. This occurs, like mentoned, randomly. There is no spesific program that is "crashing" or forcing the computer to boot. It sometimes boots when I am doing nothing on it, only windows running. With booting I mean that the computer "resets" itself and starts to power back on.
I have tried to dust the computer and fans, removed memory and installed back in diffrent order. I am out of solutions, and I need your help!
Also I am having this weird BIOS error message every time the computer is turned on. Should I (like the error message tells me) update the BIOS or Managment engine firmware. If I should, could someone link me the right firmwares?
    Error message:
    System spectifications:
    Processor: Intel Core 2 duo
    Memory: 2GB DDR
    VideoCard: ATI Radeon X550
Hard Drive: 250GB (Don't remember the model, ask if neccessary)
(Please ask if you need more information)
I do not know where to start fixing this booting problem. What should be my next move?
    Best Regards,
    Henkka
PS. I'm sorry if this is wrong forum section, I wasn't  sure where to post...

    Hi:
I would go back and remove all but one memory module.
Test each one individually to see if one of them is intermittently flaky.
If the machine crashes with the one stick, remove that one try the next one and so on.
If the machine stops crashing, you have found a faulty memory module and you can replace it.
Next thing to check if the PC crashes with all memory chips tested individually would be to carefully inspect the motherboard for bulging, or leaking capacitors (the can shaped objects on the motherboard).  Bad caps will emit gasses that cause the top of the can to swell and bulge.
Bad capacitors will cause intermittent freezes, crashes, random reboots, all kinds of nasty things.
Firmware error.  That one I don't know.
There is only one ME firmware update and I suggest you carefully read the instructions!

  • DC7700 RAM limits

I have a HP DC7700 with the 0A54H motherboard.  It came with 1GB DDR2 PC2-6400(400MHz) memory stick.  I took 2 1GB DDR2 PC2-5300(333MHz) memory sticks out of an older PC and seems to work great.
I was looking at the specs for the DC7700 and it says I can install DDR2 PC2-6400 (800MHz).   I was wanting to add more but from what I understand 32bit OS cannot support over 4GB and 64bit OS can support up to 8GB.
Would my HP 0A54H be able to handle 8GB if I installed 64bit OS?
    This question was solved.

    Hi:
    Yes it can.
4 x 2 GB OF PC2-6400 memory for the CMT and SFF.  See page 10.
    http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12543_ca/12543_ca.pdf
Since any processor in that PC has at least an 800 MHz FSB, I would not install PC2-5300 memory, as it slows things down.

The quickspecs show that your dc7700 is from 2007. Have you considered changing the BIOS battery? The batteries do go flat eventually. Your having to set the day/date is an indicator that the battery is no longer doing its job of keeping the settings in the BIOS CMOS chip.
The battery is a CR2032 and can be found at any drugstore or most electronics shops.
    Kind regards,

  • DC7700 can't detect and install sound card after update to Windows 7

I've been trying to get the sound on my HP DC7700 Ultra Slim desktops to work for a few months now (I'm a teacher at a high school, so I have about 100+ of them to take care of). I've upgraded them from XP to Windows 7, and the computers no longer recognize the sound card.
I have tried installing the Realtek driver from their site and HP's, I've tried updating the UAA architecture as suggested in other posts here and here.
In device manager, all hardware has been detected and correct drivers have been installed, including PCI and chipset drivers.
Randomly, ONE DC7700 with a unique hard drive worked. I painstakingly checked every single driver installed and found the two that were different:
"Realtek High Definition Audio" under "Sound, video and game controllers"
"High Definition Audio Controller" under "System devices"
Pictures of the driver details for both are posted below.
I am completely at a loss as to how to accomplish this successfully, and I appreciate any help. Our school is depressingly poor, and without sound videos are completely useless to them.
Thank you in advance for your time,
    Kris Brackebusch

    Hi, Kris:
Try reinstalling W7 on one of them that doesn't have audio.
On that model, W7 should be installing a generic HD audio driver that works and then you can install the Realtek HD audio driver either from the dc7700 support page or the latest one from Realtek.
You do not need the MS UAA Bus driver, because that is only for XP.
UAA is included native to Vista and newer versions of Windows.
I do not recommend you install it in an effort to resolve the issue.
I have worked on dc7600's dc7700's and the newer Elite 8xxx models, which all have the Realtek HD audio chip.
Never had a problem getting the sound to work right from the upgrade.
The HD audio is the driver that Windows installs natively.
The Realtek HD audio driver is from Realtek.

    Hi:
Just download and install the latest Realtek HD audio driver from the Realtek site.
Accept the agreement. Download and install either the first or second driver on the list depending on whether you installed the 32 or 64 bit version of W7.

  • DC7700 VPRO Slow Imaging Fix

    Morning All,
If you have Patrick Farrell's initrd witch works with the HP DC7700
machines and they are painfully slow to image or even load the RAM disk
then the fix is below. I think the slowness is due to the VPRO technology.
Anyway, just flash your BIOS to a later version. I used v2.09 from the HP
site and the machine now really cranks.
I do get a Management Engine error in the POST, but i thing this is just
another BIOS upgrade that I am yet to investigate.

  • Upgrading Motherboard on a DC7700 Sff

    Hi.
Firstly, sorry if this is in the wrong place. Im new to the forum stuff. Also, sorry if this has already been answered.
So, I am wanting to upgrade my dc7700 sff as much as possible. Up to yet, I have upgraded the GPU, HDD RAM and Windows but I would like to upgrade the Motherboard. From what people have told me, it is impossible to upgrade the Motherboard but I would like some other opinions before I spend money I havnt really got on a new PC.
Here is a full list of my specs (Off the top of my head) :
    160GB Sata HDD
    3GB RAM
    ATI Radeon X1300 Pro GPU
    Intel (R) Core (TM)2 CPU    6400 @ 2.13GHz  2.13GHz

I like the 8000 Elite CMT.
It normally comes standard with a W7 COA sticker, an E8400 processor and has DDR3 memory and can take up to 16 GB of memory.
It has a 325W power supply.
You can either order a set of recovery disks from HP or make your own plain version of W7 Pro and use the product key to install W7.
I picked one up for less than $150.00 last year.  It had 2 GB of memory, which I removed and upgraded to 16 GB (4 x 4 GB).
I installed a Radeon HD 6570 1 GB graphics card.  It had an E8400 processor and I left that alone.
It also came with a W7 Pro COA sticker and a 250 GB HDD with no OS on it.
I ordered the recovery disks from HP for $10 and I was all set.
Who knows...you might be able to get an 8100 Elite for the same price nowadays.  I haven't looked in a while.

  • Extremely slow imaging on HP DC7700 with 2GB of RAM

    Hi
Hope you can help. I've got a dozen new HP DC7700's that we are
attempting to image with Zenworks 6.5 SP2 Hotpatch 4. We have about 20
different types of workstation in this environment and all of these
workstations image in approximately 6-8 minutes.
When we first received the HP DC7700 I had to make some mods to our
environment as discussed in the following topic ...
    http://groups.google.com.au/group/no...bac07299d56ecd
.... and finally got the HP DC7700 (with 1GB of RAM) imaging (with
exactly the same image and similar size driver package) in 15 minutes
(i.e. about double our normal imaging time). Put that on the things to
do list to find out why the imaging time doubled but we could live with
    that.
Then the other day we got some HP DC7700's delivered with 4 x 512MB
sticks of RAM and started the imaging process. Now it's ground to a
halt. It's taking approximately 3 hours to image the workstation. So
now I have to find a solution.
I've tested to make sure it's not a problem with the additional 1GB of
RAM by removing all the RAM and using the additional 1GB RAM as the
only RAM in the workstation. The workstation imaged in about 15 mins as
before. Put 2GB in the workstation and imaging slows down to a crawl
    again.
Does anyone have any idea what is going wrong and where I should start
to look to fix the problem?
I am aware of the release of Zen 6.5 SP2 IR1 but would prefer not to
upgrade at this stage as we've just got everything working so well here
that I'd like to get some mileage out of it before upgrading and
    possibly introducing some new issues.
    Many thanks
    Craig

I guess trying that as fast as possible is your only chance.. there will
only be ONE final patch for 6.5 and this is already in beta. If the problem
is really the ram and it could be fixed easily you have a slight chance
that this could move into the latest patch. Otherwise you will have to live
with it if there is no other workaround

  • DC7700 Compac ULTRA SLIM DESKTOP PC BIOS UPDATE

    Hello world
I’m using Windows 7 Ultimate on a DC7700 Ultra-Slim Desktop PC and I’ve been getting these really annoying freezes where the screen goes black for a few seconds then I get an error message “Intel Accelerated Graphics Drivers for Windows Vista stopped responding and has recovered.” Sometimes I get a bluescreen and the PC reboots- mostly when I play a video file or PC game.
I downloaded an updated Intel graphics driver which installed fine and actually boosted performance significantly but the screen flashes persist. After a lot of research I think I need a bios update but I can’t seem to find one for win 7 ultimate. Information on this stuff isn’t always accurate and I don’t want to take any chances with the installation. My current BIOS software is 786E1 v01.09, 1/5/2007 (Q965/Q963 Express Chipset Family) and the updated Intel Graphics Accelerator driver is version 8.15.10.1930, 9/23/3009.
I don’t want to mess with the BIOS so I’m hoping someone can point me to the right download. Also would it be possible to do the upgrade in a Windows environment as opposed to Setup or Command mode? Please help!

Could you please give me the exact product number for your computer?

    You're very welcome.
You were lucky you didn't brick the PC running the Windows based flash in an unsupported operating system.
All's well that ends well, I guess.
What I mean is... all parts of the PC depend on memory and it may be the memory communicating with the video card that is having a problem, not the video driver itself.
What I would do if I were you is...
If you have more than one memory module in the PC, shut it down, unplug it and remove all but one chip.
Run the PC with the one chip and see if the crashing continues.
If it does, remove that chip and replace with the other and see if the crashing continues.
If it doesn't, you found the bad chip.
"Rinse and repeat" as necessary until you test all chips.
If checking all of the memory modules fails to isolate the issue, then I would suspect the video chip itself has a problem.
I say that because you indicated the video works OK if the driver is disabled. Sometimes the video chip will work OK in VGA mode but when you add the driver, it conks out.  Video chip going out probably.
The only other thing you can try if you haven't already is to manually install the Vista business driver for your PC from your PC's support and driver page.

I support multiple agencies and it appears that most of our dc7700's are having the same problem. A user leaves it on overnight and comes back and the desktop has locked up and the only way to "fix" this is to hold the power button down to shut the PC off. We have already checked the power settings and hibernate is not enabled.
One fix we had come up with seems to work on some but not all where we uncheck ‘Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power’ in the power management tab within the USB-Root-Hub >USB Controllers > Device Manager.
There were a couple of system enhancement patches that seemed like they pertained to our problem but to no avail.

Just tried updating the Intel Chipset and updating BIOS. Will leave on overnight and see what happens.
