DCHP IP address

Our office have used HP Designjet Z6100ps 42in plotter through local area network, but recently
we cannot make connection to the plotter due to some network problem. So I checked the ethernet
wall jack connected to the plotter to see if the line is on. I found the line on because I can
use internet with my laptop on the same ethernet wall jack as the plotter. The plotter and my
laptop was configured as DCHP IP address. What's really weird is that the plotter pickes up a
far different DCHP Ip addresss than the laptop on the same jack which I think is causing
problem. I means the plotter picks up 10.230.0.231 while the laptop 10.230.1.231: pleae look at
the difference, 0 and 1, at the third segment of IP address. Please advice..Jae Lee

You mean you don't want the ip address you are already having...instead what you could do is click start>>>click Control Panel>>>Double click Network Connections>>>Right click Wireless network connection icon & then click properties & then click Internet Protocol TCP/IP & click properties & you will be able to remove or add the ip address.

  • IP address conflict - pls help...

    Hi
I get on my iMac (and also on the MacBook) sometimes the message: *Another device on the network is using your computer's IP address (10.0.0.8).* After a view seconds (and evidently a change of the IP address) Ethernet connectivity works again. When does this happen: e.g. after waking up the Laptop from sleep modus.
    Here is my setup:
. ADSL router with 10.0.0.138 GW address
. all devices directly connected via a Gigabit switch
. most devices are set to DHCP except one
. one device needs to have a manual set IP address (set now to 10.0.0.180), because it does not support DHCP (is a special HW for the solar system)
. devices connected via Ethernet cable include:
              - iMac DHCP
              - Windows PC DHCP
              - Apple Time Capsule DHCP
              - PS3 DHCP
              - TV Samsung LED DHCP
              - SAT Receiver Sky+ DHCP
              - NAS DHCP
               - Fronius Data Logger static IP 10.0.0.180
. devices connected via WLAN (to Apple Time Capsule) all using DHCP
              - Apple TV
              - Wii
              - iPhone 4
              - 2 iPads
              - Samsung mobile phone
              - MacBook
    All have DCHP activated.
I dont understand how a device can get the same IP address from the DHCP and so causing an IP address conflict. Unless, there are 2 active, which I did not yet figure out...
What did I change lately (before this change, I did not have this problem)?
. I had another router behind the ADSL router, set to 192.168.0.x internal address range for the home network. It got broke  so I took it out of the setup as the new ADSL router anyway has a firewall. Since then I have these issues.
What does "got broke" mean - as I am not sure whether this helps in finding the root cause: what happened is that after our vacation when I switched on all clients again I could surf the Internet lets say for 1hour or so and then suddenly all clients lost connection and had an 169.254.0.x IP address. And this although DCHP IP address lifetime of the router was set to 24h and the actual lifetime of the clients IP addresses where in that range (as I reseted the router). Before our vacation all was fine. BTW, the ADSL router works fine (I use also IPTV service over it and it works perfectly all the time).
So before that change, I had a private network segment with 192.168.0.x extending from the router to all wireline devices. I am not sure, but it can be that the Time Capsule, i.e. the wireless network, was on 10.0.0.x (I dont know). Then things would be clear to me, as then evidently the Time Capsule runs a separte DHCP from which the wireless devices fetch their IP address and if they are now all in the same network segment (both wireless and wireline)...then "Houston we have a problem":)
    So my questions are:
. is the Airport setting of the Time Capsule wrong? I used "create a wireless network". Is it now just extending the 10.0.0.x network to the wireless domain? Hence do the wireless clients fetch their IP addresses from the ADSL router or the Time Capsule?
. Is the wireless and wireline network fully transparent, can wireless devices connect without problems to a wireline device (e.g. the MacBook to the NAS)?
. Is there an app that helps to identify the clients? I can get from my router a list of IP addresses used by clients, but I cannot link them to the devices.

I am having a similar issue as described in another post.  search "Time Capsule IP address Conflict".   This is a relatively large home network with a number of media devices, PCs and Macs on a network behind and ATT uverse 2wir router.
Everything worked fine until I added the Time Capsule to the network.  Initially the TC got an IP address frou the 2wire router and all was fine.   But the next day I recieved and IP addres conflict from a Mac Book.
TC is Bridge mode - Wireless turned off - attached diretly to a lan port on the 2wire router.
It looked like the TC recieved an IP address from the 2wire router but the 2wire indicated that it was a static IP, rather than one being issued by DHCP.  The 2wire handed out the same address to the Mac Book.
I shut down the TC and the Mac Book, rebooted the TC and Mac Book.  Everything seemd to be fine.  This time the TC got an address from the 2wire DHCP pool 192.168.1.113.   This gave me the opportunity to reserve the address hoping that the TC would get this address every time, and keep it from being handed out to another device.
Everything seemed fine for a day.
Next day we get another address conflict.
The airport utility on an Imac still says that the TC is 192.168.1.113 but the 2wire router does not show the .113 address.  Instead it says that the TC has a static IP of .117 .
The Mac Book shows an address of .117.
    Shut down the TC
    Shut Down the Mac Book
Reboot the Mac Book and Manually assign .120
Change the Macbook to get DHCP address.   It now Gets .120    I reserve .120 for the mac Book
    Reboot the TC
It gets .113 and shows up on the 2wire router as .113 issued from DHCP.
Reserver .113 for the TC again.
    Waiting to see what happens.
Does the TC go to sleep?
If so does it lose its IP assignment and get a new one when it wakes up?
While it's asleep does DHCP try to give its address to another device?
I would be tempted to blame the DHCP service in the 2wire router accept everything works fine when the TC is not on the network.

    3. Microsoft router MN-500:
Tried this old router (the one I used before purchasing the LinkSys). It is an old (circa 2002) Wireless B base station with WEP Security. The iPhone was never able to connect to the Internet using various settings, many of which were duplicates of the LinkSys tests above.
On both routers my wife's Dell laptop and my HP printer connect without incident, using the same network/security settings.
I have always been able to connect to various unsecured WiFi networks; I have never been able to connect to a secure WiFi network (although the only one I've really tried has been my own).
I am at a loss as to what to do next. Any suggestions?

    SUCCESS!!!!!
I visited my brother-in-law yesterday and attempted to connect with his secure network. By sheer luck, he is using the exact same model LinkSys router. My iPhone connected first time--so the iPhone was eliminated as a source of the problem.
I didn't do a lot of troubleshooting at his house, but I did notice that his network was set for both dynamic DHCP and dynamic DNS. I know that either or both of Windstream (my ISP) and my broadband modem requires a pair of static DNS addresses.
Sure enough, delving real deep into Windstream's support site, I discovered a LinkSys router DNS help page, specifying how to set static DNS addresses in LinkSys routers. I then accessed my router, enterd the known static addresses, saved the router settings, then rebooted the iPhone and connected to the network.
    SUCCESS!!!
Thanks to Jane, who suggested it was an ISP issue, Jason, and all at Apple support. dumonj, I'll email you directly. Try this suggestion and see if it helps.

  • File sharing with PCs on Airport Extreme

I have two Mac (one Tiger, one Leopard) and one PC connected wirelessly and two PCs and printer connected via ethernet to a new AirPort Extreme which is connected to a DSL modem. All computers connect to the Internet and the printer with no problem. File sharing works between the two Macs but not between the PCs or between the PCs and the Macs. The PCs are on a Windows XP network called "Workgroup", file sharing is turned on and a number of folders are set for sharing. However, the PCs don't recognize each other or the Macs. In fact, the individual PCs don't even recognize themselves as being on a network! When I open Network Places, no folders show up and when I try to open Workgroup, instead of seeing any of the computers, I get an error message: "Workgroup not accessible. You may not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator...." With respect to the wireless connections, WEP/WAP are disabled, so encryption should not be a problem.
The PCs and Macs networked OK on an older Linksys router, so I suspect the problem is with the AirPort Extreme setup. I've searched the Forum and tried everything I can think of to no avail. Any help on this will be much appreciated - thanks in advance!

Thanks mredma; you noted your solution is for Norton Personal Firewall which is apparently different from the firewall in Norton 360. Following is the response that I got Symantec Support for Norton 360. I am happy to say that it worked for me!
Thank you for contacting Symantec Online Technical Support.
I understand from your e-mail that you are unable to access network computer after installing Norton 360.
Brian, please note that this issue can occur if Norton 360 firewall is blocking the connection to the other computer. Please disable Norton 360 firewall and see if you are able to access the other computer. To disable firewall, please do the following:
    1. Start Norton 360.
    2. Click on Tasks & Settings.
    3. Click on Change Advanced Settings.
    4. Click on Firewall Protection Settings.
    5. Select Off under Firewall and then click Apply.
    6. Select until I turn it back on from the drop-down menu and click OK.
    7. Click Apply, then click Close.
    8. Exit Norton 360 and try to access the other computer.
If you are able to access the network computer, please reenable firewall and create a General Rule to add the IP address of the other computer in Norton 360. To do so, please follow the steps given below:
    1. Start Norton 360.
    2. Click Task and Settings.
    3. Click Change Advanced Settings.
    4. Click on Firewall Protection Settings.
    5. Click on the tab, Firewall General Rules.
    6. Click on the button, Add. This will open up Add a Rule window.
    7. Check the option Allow, then click on Next button.
    8. Select 'Connections to and from Other Computers', then click on Next.
    9. Select 'Only Computers and Sites listed below', then click on 'Add' button.
    10. Select 'Individually' and type in the IP address of the other computer and click OK.
    11. Click Next.
    12. Select 'All' from the drop down menu, then select 'All types of Communications....'
    13. Click Next.
    14. Click Next, and enter a name, as per your choice, for this rule. Click Next.
    15. Click Finish.
    16. You will be able to see the new Rule. Click on the button 'Move Up' until the new rule reaches on top of the whole list. This is very important. Otherwise, the new rule will not come in effect.
    17. Click Apply, then click Close.
    18. Exit Norton 360.
Please let us know if we can be of further assistance. It will be a pleasure to help you.
Please note that in step #10 you can use a range of IP addresses rather than listing each one separately. I used the same range I set up in the AirPort Utility for DCHP IP address assignment. I also added 10.0.1.1 as individual permitted address, because I believe that is the AirPort Extreme Base Station adderess. I don't know if that last step is necessary. - Brian

  • IMac OSX Maverick Wifi connected, but no Internet

Hello Mac community. I am in dire need of a resolution on this wifi connection problem. I've tried most resolutions posted here on apple support community.
    I've tried:
    1: Resetting PRAM & SMC
    2: Deleting SystemConfiguration
3: Deleting passwords off Keychain for wifi
4: Creating new wifi location under Safe Mode
I know my DHCP is fine. When I see my wifi connected, I can see my DCHP IP address connected under Advanced in Network Preferences when I check my connected wifi.
Strangely enough, I'm able to surf the internet after 10 minutes when I leave my computer enough. However, the internet cuts off and I'm back to no internet, but the wifi says I'm still connected.
There is another solution In that I turn off bluetooth, but I'm using a magic mouse and bluetooth keyboard. I can't risk turning it off and not be able to use those devices.

  • 4 of 6 Macs on Cat5 LAN Network drop connection because of loose cable?

    Ok, where to start.
We have 6 Macs on our network, 4 of which are Power Macs G5s with OSX 10.4.10, the other two are newer MacPro's.
The 4 Power Macs loose the network connection at random times(not all 4 at the same time), after replacing the entire infrastructure (Switch, DCHP/Static addresses, router, patch cable, etc) we still have this problem.
After much trouble shooting we finally could recreate the problem, when opening the Network Utility and monitoring the link status active/inactive state we could get this status to switch by just slightly bumping the Cat5 cable on all 4 computers. Yes we have replaced all cables with store bought patch cables.
All 4 computers were bought over a years time, not at the same time. And no, Apple support has been of very little help, they just say they have never seen this problem before and thats about it. (3 hours on the phone for that)
These are the only 4 computers on the network having the problem in a mixed windows, mac enviroment.
As of this moment we are buying replacemnt PCIe network cards to try to resolve this problem.
Anyone else ever seen this? Could it be a wide spread design flaw in the Power Mac G5's?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    DM

A lot of times PC cards do work in Macs without saying so, but no idea which PCIe ones do.
Did run across "Yukon 88E8056 Ethernet" which if I read correctly can be made to work in a Mac...

And if you can find where to get one, it should be cheap since it was chosen for tje $100 Laptop project...

  • Mac + PC sharing Airport - but IE on PC not working?

    Hi,
I've got an iBook connected to NTL Broadband via Airport Express. My girlfriend now has a PC laptop and wants to connect wirelessly.
I have followed these forums and iFelix and managed to get her PC connected to her airport express and with an IP address 192.168.1.3. However, her Internet Explorer still thinks there is no connection and won't access any websites. My iBook is set to share its internet connection via Airport and the Firewall will allow Personal Web Sharing.
I presume this is a d*ned PC issue, but does anybody here know where I am going wrong?

    Hi iFelix,
First of all - thanks for your website and the time you take to help people on these forums.
Okay the PC should be connected to the Airport
    Express and not the iBook.
Yes, her PC is connected to our Airport Express. It manages to connect according to the "Status".
Internet sharing on the iBook should be disabled.
Oh....ok. I figured we had to share the connection. I've unchecked the option, but still no luck.
    and the Firewall
    will allow Personal Web Sharing.
This is only required if you are running a website.
Makes sense. I've unchecked that, too.
Is the PC connected to the Airport Express wireless
    network?
According to her PC's "Wireless Network Connection Status" she is connected to our Airport Express network. The "Support" tab shows:
    Address type: Assigned by DCHP
    IP Address: 192.168.1.3
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
Does that sound right? I'm just surprised that it can connect to the Airport but not browse the Internet.

  • DeskJet F4580 frequent wireless disconnects

I am having a problem whereby the F4580 will simply stop responding to network traffic after an hour or so of not being used.
There are no settings in the EWS to change this behaviour, and the only way i can resolve it is to power cycle the printer
So far i have tried the following:
Disabled IPV6 on router (Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH) and PC (Win7 64-Bit)
Assigned static IP (from outside of DHCP range)
    Disabled all firewalls
Forwarded all ports mentioned on this post
Installed printer using USB cable, Ethernet and WPS
Set wireless network to no encryption (also tried WEP and WPA)
Even tried an old Netgear router that i had knocking around thinking the Buffalo was somehow incompatible but still had the same problem
Strange thing is, when the printer gets disconnected (normally after an hour of non-use) the Network Configuration page still shows the static IP i have assigned to it (192.168.11.20) the blue wireless light stays solid (as in "Connected") but the client monitor on my router has no mention of the printer or it's MAC address.
During this time i also cannot ping the printer from any PC on my LAN. However after a power cycle it magically starts working.
This seems to me like a problem with the wireless NIC on the printer itself. Is there any way to prevent it from entering sleep mode?
    New firmware?
The only thing i can find on the HP support pages are the basic and full versions of the (utterly horrible) printer driver, and a useless "Network Diagnostic Utility".
I cannot accept HP's "fix" of power cycling the printer. What is the point of buying a wireless printer if i have to reboot it every time i want to print something?!
Any help would be greaty appreciated
    Kenny Dee
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Sorry, i've not had any time to look into this further, but to answer some of your questions....
    1. Did the printer ever have a standard DCHP IP address?  Did it exhibit this behavior then?
I have tried it with both DHCP and static IP's - both had the same problem....to be honest it felt like the issue was slightly worse when using DHCP but i'm not 100% sure - DHCP could have been causing it's own problems so who knows!
    2. Does it take an hour of inactivity for it to disappear?  The printer goes to sleep in just about 5 minutes.
Not exactly an hour....it can be anything from 20 mins to an hour
    3. Can you tell me about any non-default settings on your router(s)?  DHCP lease times, WPA refresh times, etc.?
Latest Buffalo firmware with mostly defaults.
    DHCP lease is 7 days
WPA group key refresh is 1 hour (could that be related....?! ) I will try changing this and see if the disconnect timing changes also...
    4. Have you made any adjustments to the defaults of the printer using the EWS?
Other than the static IP, I haven't changed anything in the EWS (there's not much in there anyway!)
Lastly, I haven't tried scanning when it disconnects, but i will get you an answer for that and question 6 when i get a spare moment.
    Thanks

  • Giving IP address and DCHP to aironet 1250

    hi,
We need to give an ip address to 1250 just for the managemnt purpose ( similar to VLAN1 ip address given in case of L2 switches ). And then Aironet1250's gigbit ethernet will be connected to our Core L3 4507 swicth which has DHCP running. And will distribute the IP address to wireless clients. In this case how to configure an ip address and also have DHCP running. Management IP adress is not in the range of the DHCP pool. so in case any configuration is required on Aironet device we will connect a notebook with a same subnet ip address as that of Aiornet device , and then telnet / ssh to management IP of aironet devive.
    Any experience pls share.
Any configuration link on cisco.com is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Change the range of dchp addresses to a unlisted range - 10.31.1.x

i wish to use a new ABSE to run dhcp on my network and act as my wan router. i have a 30 node windows network with one lonely mac (mine) and another 30 statically set devices. the i.p. address range in use currently is 10.31.1.1 - 10.31.1.254. the 30 devices on the lan that are statically set within this range and can't be changed without paying some hefty support charges to the venders of the equipment so changing them is not a real option.
my question is this. can i have the ABSE distribute the range 10.31.1.x instead of the three it lists and can i setup range with the 30 reserved addresses.

i am sorry for asking a question that has been posted about before. i found that it is possible to make reservation for some statically assigned devices. it apears that this is a function of the new "n" extreme and not the original abse. i am still searching for the answer to "can i change the range of distributed dhcp address" to 10.31.1.x.
again sorry for not searching fully before posting.

  • Clients not receiving dchp addresses from server

Our dhcp server (windows 2012) is failing to issues addresses to the pc's. Once the lease has expired on the pc (user goes on holiday for a week) the machine will fail to pick up an ip address on the users return.
The event viewer on the server reads "IP address range of scope is 95 percent full with only 7 IP address available"
I have gone through the dhcp scope of which there are 94 exclusions and i have a further 39 machines which require addresses.
On a class C subnet i should have far more than 7 addresses available.
Any thoughts as to what might be at fault here.

Just completed a major network upgrade... So decided it was time to stack some ofmy old switches! Can anyone date some of these things? And some before and after shots: The first one is of a distribution cabinet (2 x 10Gig Fiber link ag. to server room) on the other side of our site, the last two are of the core cabinet in my server room. Will take some more pictures later.

  • TC not issuing dchp address

Recently, i just configured my time capsule and everything was working fine until lately.  I have altogether 10 Mac/iOS devices.  2 days ago, my son noticed that his iPhone and iPad was getting intermittent or slow transmission from Time Capsule.  My own iPad had similar problem.  The wireless signal was strong though.  After doing turing the WIFI button on/off, restarting TC or ipad and Phones, it seemed like I managed to get my son phone/ipad to work normally.
However, my iPad continued to have problem where it detected the TC WIFI signal but failed to connect to internet.  After further checking, I now realised that it didn't manage to get a DHCP address from the TC.  I tried the to renew the DHCP lease as well but didn't work as well.  What can I do?    Thanks.
    Regards
    ray

What model TC and how old is it?? The actual model number will help, A1xxx from the base.
See https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6324708?tstart=0 for how to find the number.
The firmware revision could also help.
And the network layout. Is the TC the main router in the network?
    Screenshots help no end.
Simple solution.. start over. Factory reset the TC.
Please do not use apple recommended names.. use names that are short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Use WPA2 Personal security and a pure alphanumeric password of 8-20 characters unless you are paranoid.

I've only recently started to experience this issue, so I'm guessing it has something to do with 10.6.2, maybe not. The problem seems to happen when I quit screen sharing from one of my MBPs. Whatever is causing this, it started a few weeks ago. I don't have the IP issue with any of my other computers, only the MacPro.
Anyone know what is going on, and more importantly, have a fix? Thanks.

    Hello
You will be getting the first message because there is another computer on the network with the same computer name it does not like this and will give the error message you have. I would check System Prefs / Sharing and make sure the names are different on each Mac.
As for the second error is it possible that the Airport Express is dishing out DHCP on its wireless clashing with the Airport Extreme ? , you could always just give the machines Static Address to get round this issue short term.
    Thanks

  • IP Address Change

I have set up OS/X Lion Server in a simple configuration from a clean install.
    Services running:
    1. AFP File Sharing
    2. VPN
    3. Profile Manager
    4. DNS
    5. Open Directory
    6. Time Machine
I've defined two local users and two network users.
VPN, AFP File sharing, Time Machine all tested and stable.
I have an airport extreme 5th generation that has been configured with NAT Port Mapping rules and DCHP range and client reserves  to support what I have done to this point.
I know realize I want to change my server IP address from 10.0.1.x to 10.0.z.x because I want to have an different subnet range to avoid conflicts from VPN users that login in from the internet.
What are the required steps to reconfigure the server for a new address
I have solid cloned backups using carbon copy cloner and time machine on separate physcial drives to fall back to as well as one open physical drive that is not in use
What are the required steps to reconfigure the server for a new address?
Thanks for the help. I've found other threads but the were not specific to OS X Lion Server so I want to tread carefully.
    Thanks

  • Dropped wi-fi connection because of IP address

I have numerous devices connected to my home Wi-Fi using an Airport Extreme router.
2 iPhones, 2 iPads, 1 MacBook Air, 1 Apple TV, 2 Aiport Express' and 2 iMacs.
The 2 iMacs continually get dropped from the network with an error message of "...another device is using your IP address..."
I go into setting s and try to renew the DCHP lease but it will not reasign an IP address. The only solution I have found is to unplug the Airport Extreme router and plug it back in and everything works for a few hours until one of the iMacs get dropped and I have to do this again.
How do I fix this problem?

i changed the IP adress to a static number on iMac 1 and it appeared to work fine. I then changed the iMac 2 to a static address (a different number of course) but when I hit apply it lost internet connection. I then ran diagonstics and it changed it back to Using DHCP and it worked fine except it no longer has a static address. I went through this process 3 times with the same result.
When I then returned to the iMac 1 it had dropped the connection and had the same error message "that another device was using its IP address" I changed it back to using DHCP and it now works fine but the sytem is back to where it was when I was having the drop problems.
For some reaason the network doesnt like static IP addresses.
    What is plan B?
