DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer x.x.x.x using any of the configured protocols (thread 2)

This is a continuation of a thread that was 'mistakenly' marked as answered -
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winservergen/thread/353d381d-0911-41c3-98fb-2475b65c32f6
Basically, we have 2008 R2 domain controllers that are trying to create a secure connection to servers listed in the 'forwarders' section of the DNS server properties. Of course, this connection attempt fails causing warning messages in event viewer.
Hopefully, this will get more attention from the gurus and MVP's than the last thread...

I have been having this issue with two of my domain controllers, trying to connect to machines that were only on the network temporarily, and especially trying to connect to non-windows devices (and hence non-domain clients) on the WiFi network.  I
was getting two or three of these DCOM 10009 errors every few seconds and it was choking the hell out of my System log.
I also reviewed the previous totally-not-really-answered thread and the exchange about the Labtech management software is what clued me in to a solution.
For those who don't want to go back and review that thread (here)
the short version is that the Labtec software was repeatedly running the command
DCDIAG /TEST:DNS /DNSforwarders as part of it's regular health check, and that test was causing the
RPC service to try to communicate with the server
in question (an external DNS server, so, obviously, no RPC connection.)
This made me think about services on the DC that I've been having this issue on (two of them actually) and which of those
services might be trying  to force a connection to every device on the LAN for some reason.  For example, I checked to see if there was a Spiceworks agent on the server that might be at fault.
It turned out to be a service associated with our newly deployed Palo Alto Networks firewall, and specificaly the User
Agent service that was installed on the two DCs experiencing the problem.  In brief, it was running something called WMI-Probing for any device sending web traffic from a domain-authenticated host (including devices connected to WiFi using users' domain
credentials.)
Palo Alto's description of the issue is
here,
but the lesson to be learned is that if you've got this DCOM error, it's because something on the computer (doesn't have to be the DC) is trying to initiate a connection to the target IP.  If you look through your services list, you're probably going
to find it.  I found it by running Process Monitor on one of the DCs and looking for activity immediately preceding the attempted network RPC EPMAP actions and for every single one I saw an action by the Palo Alto User Agent service. Five seconds on Google
with "Palo Alto Dcom 10009" put up the answer.  If you've got this error, betcha you've got some service running that's trying to make that RPC connection at whatever frequency the error is popping up.
Good luck!

I am not sure I am in the right place, but several weeks ago we delete our reporting server from the farm, and now once a week on sun I am getting this error on one of our app server in the farm "
DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer uhmc-sp-rptsvs using any of the configured protocols.", I deleted the object cache and still getting this error, does anyone have an idear

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you got error after deleting reporting server from the farm.
The error may appear if the workstation or server is attempting to access a device or system that no longer exists on the network, or if the queried device is not a Microsoft Windows device.

    Hi,
Previously I've two exchange server 2013 named : ABC and XYZ. After is decomm XYZ, i got this error :
DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer XYZ using any of the configured protocols; requested by PID     7b28 (C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Bin\MSExchangeHMWorker.exe).

May I know the reason why the server keep looking for the non-exist server and how to terminate this process?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
It seems that error message occurs on the same machine with the previous Exchange Server you have decommissioned. Have you reinstall the Windows System after uninstall the Exchange
    Server?
You need to check the registry keys but this is not efficient solution. The most efficient way is to reinstall the Windows if it is convenient.

  • DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer (IP) using any of the configured protocols

    Hey all,
I know this has been asked a bazillion times before... and well you can thank MS for having such a generic error message being keyed into the event logs...
K, So we have separate networks segregated by VLANs and a layer 3 switch. The Errors appear constantly a few events every few minutes. From doing nslookups on all the IP address being generated I have determined they are the following:
    iPhones, Printers, and subnet gateways...
And the errors are appearing a on Windows Server 2008 R2 running as a internal CA..
Thing is, this is a bit of a messed up server setup as it also hosting BES (shutters), ServiceDesk (good product, not something I would pair with a CA), and one of these requires Java so Java is running on it... which makes me cringe even more..
More from all my research I did everything that MS suggested about configuring the component services on the server reporting the events, but obviously all these "computers" aren't running windows, so I'm not sure what causing the flood of 10009
    events.
The even log has over 160,000 of these events... I need help getting this resolved. Thoughts, suggestions?

    Hi Zewwy,
Please see resource for a link.

Meanwhile, we are not sure if there is anyother 3rd party applicaion casue this issue, so I suggest to eliminate some factors by using Clean Boot.
Disable the 3rd party application or using
    Clean Boot for test.
    Clean Boot
    a. Click Start, click Run, type "msconfig" (without
the quotation marks) in the Open box, and then click OK.
    b. In the Startup tab, click the "Disable All" button.
    c. In the Services tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft
Services" checkbox, and then click the "Disable All" button.
    ======================================================
    Clean Boot + binary search
In a Clean Boot, all the
3rd party services and startup programs are disabled. If the server can start
normally in Clean Boot, we can be sure
that the issue was caused by some 3rd party service or application. And then we
can do a "binary search". You can enable half of all the services in Services tab, and then restart the
server to check the result. If the issue reoccurs, it means the culprit is in
this list; if not, the culprit is in the other half.
And then, we can continue the binary search, until we find out the root cause.
Please let me know if this action plan is OK for you.
    Thank you.

If it works, the sign up page will connect you to a 3rd party email account provider such as hover or gandi who will require payment. Is this really what you want to do, given that your ISP and other providers (gmail, gmx, hotmail, yahoo) will be happy to give you an account for free?

  • Unable to Communicate with Printer message, but still prints

I installed a new ENVY 4500 printer on my Windows XP system. and it there are two problems:
    1.  when I try to print, it tkes some time, then a message window appears with "unable to communicate with printer", but it still prints.  I have uninstalled the printer and the drivers and reinstalled, but to no avail.
    2. I have a Seagate GoFlex USB backup drive attached.  However, when the printer is connected, the Seagate drive disappears.  It happily coexisted with my former HP C4100 printer for years, but the new one seems to cause problems.

I solved the problem.  I purchased a new USB cable for the printer.  I deleted the printer, uninstalled the print drivers, and completely reinstalled the printer.  At first the installation did not work, but I discovered the USB cable was not completely inserted into the printer.  Initially it felt like it was, but I gave it an extra push and it clicked into place.  At that point the installation completed successfully.  Now the printer and the Seagate drive work properly.

  • OfficeJet 6700 - "Unable to communicate with printer" message after install

I am on a hybrid network with Windows 7, 64-bit. Printer is hard-wired to the router (ethernet) but laptops are wireless. Installation doesn't allow for a hybrid option, just wireless or wired, so I installed as wired.
I just installed the OfficeJet 6700 - installed OK.  I also updated software/firmware during the install process.
Windows' "Devices & Printers" recognizes the HP as being installed.
Printer is able to produce the network configuration page, etc. so we know the printer is functional, but when I try to print I get an "Unable to communicate with printer" message.
Windows' "Devices and Printers" troubleshooter thinks the driver is not installed, but as I mentioned, I just installed software from the CD.
UPDATE: I was able to install & print without problems on my wife's Win7, 64-bit laptop. Something about mine seems to be the issue. Also, HP Print & Scan Doctor reports that everything checks out OK, but when I try to print a test page at the end of the good doctor's diagnosis, I am still "unable to communicate with printer."

Sorry this is so long, but I tried to be through in my testing.
    Followed your suggested steps.
I had previously set a static IP address, but just to be thorough, re-set it again with the same address.
I unplugged the USB cord from the laptop.
I began with the device labeled "HP OfficeJet 6700 (Copy 1)," which was set as the default printer.
After entering the IP address & clicking Next, it searched the network and returned this message:
    Additional port information required
The device could not be identified.
The device is not found on the network. Be sure that:
    1. The device is turned on.
    The network is connected.
    The device is properly configured.
The address on the previous page is correct. (re: the page where the IP address is entered)
If you are sure the address is correct, select the device type below.
I selected Standard (Generic Network Card) and clicked Next.
Summary dialog appeared and I clicked Finish.
    Clicked OK/Apply.
Attempted to print. Like before, it sent the file to print queue - then nothing.
Right-clicked on the "Copy 1" device and selected Troubleshoot. Returned the message: Make printer "Fax HP OfficeJet 6700 the default printer" - even though this copy is already the default printer. (Usually when the original copy is set as the default, this copy is automatically re-named "Fax HP OfficeJet 6700.") I chose "Apply this fix."
Summary page said "Troubleshooting has completed." I closed the troubleshooter and attempted to print. I closed the Devices & Printers window so it could refresh. Re-opened Devices & Printers. Now the default printer is named "Fax HP OfficeJet 6700." The other device is grayed out and is simply named "HP OfficeJet 6700."
Attempted to print. (I'm testing w/ Notepad and .txt files)
I have 3 choices in the Notepad's printer dialog box but only 2 devices showing in the Devices & Printers window:
~ "Fax HP OfficeJet 6700" - This is the default printer in the Devices and Printers window. I clicked on Print & rec'd an error message: "Send Fax - HP Officejet 6700. There is a problem communicating with the Printer. Check your USB connection & verify that the printer is ready." Notepad's print dialog box shows status as Offline. I canceled all documents in the print queue.
~ "HP OfficeJet 6700." When I choose this printer option, Notepad's print dialog box shows status as "Paused - Offline." I clicked on "Print" anyway, and like before, it sent the file to print queue - then nothing. This is the printer that shows as grayed out in the Devices & Printers window. I canceled all documents in the print queue.
~ "HP OfficeJet 6700 (Copy 1)." There is no printer by this name in the Devices and Printers window even tho' it shows in Notepad's print dialog box. Notepad's print dialog box shows status as "Ready." In Devices & Printers, when I right-click on the one labeled "Fax OfficeJet 6700" (the default device) and choose "See what's printing," 2 HP devices are listed - the one labeled "Copy 1" and the one labeled "Fax." I clicked on "Print" and like before, it sent the file to print queue - then nothing. I canceled all documents in the print queue.
I plugged in the USB cord again and re-ran the same series of tests.
~ "Fax HP OfficeJet 6700" - This is still the default printer in the Devices and Printers window. Notepad's print dialog box shows status as "Ready." The fax window opened, waiting me to enter the recipient's name, add a cover sheet, etc. I closed the fax window. The .txt file was in the print queue for the "Fax" device, so I canceled all documents in the print queue.
~ "HP OfficeJet 6700." When I choose this printer option, Notepad's print dialog box shows status as "Paused - Offline." I clicked on "Print" anyway, and like before, it sent the file to print queue - then nothing. This is grayed out in the Devices & Printers window. I canceled all documents in the print queue.
~ "HP OfficeJet 6700 (Copy 1)." Again, there is no printer by this name in the Devices and Printers window even tho' it shows in Notepad's print dialog box. This is one of 2 choices in the device labeled "Fax" - the default device. Notepad's print dialog box shows status as "Ready." I clicked on "Print" and like before, it sent the file to print queue - then nothing. I canceled all documents in the print queue.
Next, I used the printer's touch screen interface and turned the wireless connection off, leaving the USB cord plugged in.
~ "Fax HP OfficeJet 6700" - Status: Ready. The fax window opened, same as before. I closed the fax window & canceled all documents in the print queue.
~ "HP OfficeJet 6700 - Status: Paused - Offline. I clicked on "Print" anyway, and like before, it sent the file to print queue - then nothing. This one shows as grayed out in the Devices & Printers window. I canceled all documents in the print queue.
~ "HP OfficeJet 6700 (Copy 1)" - Status: Error. I clicked Apply, then Print. Again, this is one of 2 choices in the device labeled "Fax" - the default device. Like before, it sent the file to print queue - then nothing. I canceled all documents in the print queue.
Reconnected to the wireless network & verified that the IP address had not changed.
Tried again to print using "HP OfficeJet 6700 (Copy 1)" - Status: Ready. I clicked Print and again, it sent the file to print queue - then nothing. This is still listed as one of 2 choices in the device labeled "Fax" - the default device." Like before, I canceled all documents in the print queue.
Next, I right-clicked on the one labeled "Fax OfficeJet 6700" (the default device) and choose "See what's printing" and selected the device labeled "HP OfficeJet 6700 (Copy 1)." In the print queue window, when I click on "Printer, one of my options is "Set as Default Printer." As soon as I did that, the device in the Devices & Printers window was renamed as "HP OfficeJet 6700 (Copy 1)" - no longer named "Fax." I tried to print again. Once again, file was sent to the print queue but never printed.

  • 6500 E710 unable to communicate with the printer

I have an HP Officejet 6500A Plus E710n-z.  It has in the past but it no longer connects (through wireless) to my computer (Apple OSX 10.8.4).  It has become intermittent over the last month, and then did not respond at all.  I had a growing list of items to print.
I have followed each of the steps on  - http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02205477&cc=au&dlc=en&lang=en&lc=en&product=408... .
Wifi to each is not a problem.
The printer has been disconnected (deleted) as the computer printer.  I have been able to add back in the 'scanner' part of the printer, but cannot add in the printer - it has the message 'unable to communicate with the printer'.
    What do I do next?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I would recommend that you do a hard reset on the printer. To do that, use the following steps.
    1. Press the Power button to turn on the product.
    2. With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
    3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    4. Wait at least 15 seconds.
    5. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
    6. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
    7. If the product does not turn on by itself, press the power button to turn it on.
Try that and let me know if it helps!
    Best of luck,
    Kyle

  • HPlip: "Unable to communicate with the device" error

Hello Arch Community, I've been a user of Arch for a while and most of it just worked out of the box. However, I had my HP 6300 working through a direct connection. But a couple of days ago it just broke.
I've tried everything I could think of to make it back but all has been unsuccesful, I removed the printer and tried to add it again (sorry, old Windows habit, there most of the time works), however, I couldn't add the printer, it fails with the error: "Unable to communicate with the device. Please check the device and try again.", I added myself to the ld group (shouldn't matter, but I did it anyway)
    I have cups 1.4.2.

Albeit it has errors, I can't see how they are releated (cups does have a conf file, but it seems that *my* user can't access it, expected 'couse it's owned by root). Any ideas?

    Hi
I had the same problem. The solution is to change the network discovery mode to SLP or add manually the IP address of your printer at the first step of the hp setup wizard. After you install the printer successfully, check the maximum resolution of the driver. Mysteriously, for me the maximum resolution was restricted to 600 dpi so I downgraded to the previous version of HPLIP and got back the 1200 dpi option. Please let me know if you have this issue too. I have posted this question in the hplip forums, but I haven't received any replies yet.

I'm using a mac (OS X - snow leopord) and am printing over the network (wirelessly).
HP Photosmart Premium Fax All in One - C410a
I was only able to print one page and then both my printer and my computer would display an error message about the printer's inability to print.  Since then I've been able to resolve my specific problem.
    I
    1. uninstalled HP from my computer (checked to ensure that my printer was no longer visible in my printers and the HP Utility software was nowhere to be found),
    2. grabbed the software/driver update from Aug, 2010,
    3. installed the Aug, 2010 update, and my problems seem to have been fixed.
This is where I got my 2010 update from (obviously you should get the driver/software applicable to your OS and specific printer):

  • Verify permissions failed: Framework unable to communicate with the Disk Management daemon

I'm experiencing problems with the Disk Management daemon on my MBPro Retina running Mountain Lion 10.8.2. I discovered it first when I tried to enable file vault and received the "Framework unable to communicate with the Disk Management daemon" error message.
So I started up Disk Utilities (which started fine) and tried to run Verify Disk Permissions. It failed with the following errror message:
"Verify permissions failed: Framework unable to communicate with the Disk Management daemon"
So I booted in to safe mode and tried Verify Disk Permissions again with the same results.
So I booted in to the recovery partition to run Disk Utilities. It ran fine and the Verify Disk Permissions found some errors which I then fixed.
I re-booted normally but am still experiencing the same behavior.
I have turned off my anti-virus (Sophos) to no effect.
I checked the console and found the following message:
12/6/12 3:27:02.828 PM Disk Utility[157]: *** WARNING: Method userSpaceScaleFactor in class NSWindow is deprecated on 10.7 and later. It should not be used in new applications. Use convertRectToBacking: instead.
    Thoughts or suggestions?  Thanks!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether your problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click  Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
