DCR-DVD508 mounts in Finder as blank DVD

I am trying to transfer video from a Sony DCR-DVD508 to my iMac using iMovie '09. I connect the two devices using a USB cable. The camcorder stores the video on an 8 cm DVD. When I connect the camcorder to the iMac, the camcorder mounts in Finder as a blank DVD, but I know there is video recorded on the camcorder's DVD because I can view it in playback mode on the camcorder.
Any help much appreciated.
Cheers,
David

Finalizing did the trick. My friend must have neglected to do so before giving me the camcorder. Now I'm going to lambast him for making me waste an afternoon trying to figure out how to upload his video.
Many thanks.

  • Why the Blank DVD can not be found in Super Drive?

With my new Mac Book Pro which I created severeal DVDs in past month, all of a sudden I have problem. In Both DVD Studio Pro and iDVD I can not burn the final video which is 35 minutes. Each time I attempt to burn my project, the disk is ejected with a message asking me to insert an acceptable disk because it couldn't find the blank DVD. I have used different brands and still no luck. I tested my hard drive with *TechTool Deluxe* and also the Mac Book Pro's 1st dick of installation and in both cases everything was fine and passes the test. I've updated all of my soft ware as well.
Would you please kindly share your knowlege to solve this problem.

Thank you for your time. I have tried Verbatim(Digital Movie DVD-R) which I used before with my Mac Book Pro and also apple DVD-R. Yes I can see my own burned DVDs and also all commercial one in my drive.

  • Permission err mounting blank DVD in finder, works fine in other apps

Hi I have an intel Mac Mini running OSX 10.4.9 fully patched.
I can not mount a blank DVD disk in the finder, if I insert one I get the following error message: "The operation could not be completed because you do not have enough access privileges".
Blank DVDs work fine with iDVD. Non blank DVDs also work just fine for playing movies or reading data.
I have tried repairing permissions with both Disk Utility and Onyx, neither makes any difference.
I have logged in as System Administrator (root) and the blank DVD works exactly as it is supposed to and I can create data disks.
So it seems like I really do have a permission problem, but not one that is fixed by Disk Utility.
    Anyone have any ideas?

This error is listed several times in discussions archived issues. The solution is always the same: trash com.apple.finder.plist from your home /Library /Preferences. I hope it works for you but as for me, that is impossible. The com.apple.finder.plist DOES NOT EXIST!!! By the way, I noticed this error and also the error "No mountable file system" when trying to open any disk image immediately after Software Updates took me to 10.4.9 and it occurs in other admin users also, so it is not a user issue for me.

  • Blank DVD disk image won't mount on desktop

A DVD or CD with data on it mounts fine, as well as a blank RW CD... However, when attempting to mount a blank DVD, it ejects after 10 seconds or so, regardless if I use a burn application or the Finder... The computer is over a year old and I have had no problems until less than a week ago... looking for reasons and fixes... Universally perplexed %?@*!!!

I see that the original post was an error on the posters part but I am still having the problem and I DO have a DVD burner the following is from system profiler

Any thoughts why it will load all pre recorded discs CD and DVD, burn CD's but not DVD's? Tried both dvd-r and dvd+r. I was able to burn to these in the past.

  • Blank DVD not in Finder 10.8.3

I have a MacPro4,1. Since I upgraded to 10.8.3 I can not see my blank DVD or CD in Finder or on the Desktop. I tried resetting the SMC and the NVRAM and that does not work. The only thing that works is to restore to 10.8.2 from TimeMachine?
Does anyone have a good suggestion?

You also need to enable CD and DVD in the Finder preferences so that they will show mounted.

  • Blank DVD+R won't mount, always ejects

After installing Leopard, any blank DVD+R that I insert won't mount, it makes noises and always ejects -
    yet
    1. I can read the Mac OSX Leopard DVD and have installed it.
    2. Blank CDs mount and can be burned. And they play as well.
This appears to be happening only after installing Leopard. Help, anyone!!

The specs for this drive are hard to find, but this came up with some Google searching:
    MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-835E:
    Firmware Revision: GAN7
    Interconnect: ATAPI
    Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipped/Supported)
    Cache: 2048 KB
    Reads DVD: Yes
    CD-Write: -R, -RW
    DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +RW
    Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes
    Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes
    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, DVD-DAO
    Media: No
This would indicate that this drive does not support double-layer (DL) DVDs. You can confirm this by checking the specs for yours in System Profiler.

  • Blank DVD and CD not showing up in Finder or anywhere

My blank dvd and cd are not showing up in Finder. I checked my preference and deleted from my library com.apple.finder.plist. All to no avail. I have the new upgraded Lion.

    AppleHoop wrote:
When I open the Disk Utility I see SuperDrive but I can't burn nor eject the disk. The only way I can eject the DVD is to restart my computer.
Do other blank discs appear normally?
Do other commercially manufactured discs (software, movies) show up normally?
Those questions are to help narrow down exactly what the problem is.
    AppleHoop wrote:
I have no idea what it means to "zap the PRAM" and Reset the SMC"
Honestly i don't think those are going to make much difference for this problem. Go ahead and do them, but they're usually last resort desparation solutions, not first resort.

  • Blank DVD-R's won't mount even though compatible with system

Trying to copy just a couple  photos onto disc for a resume. Blank DVD-R will not mount on screen. They are accepted then rejected. Old DVD-R with information WILL mount, as well as CD-R's (audio). Using a fairly new MacBook Pro. Have checked HELP sections and computer system is compatible w/ DVD-R. So the disc drive(?) works but something that has always been very simple to do is not working. Am I using the wrong DVD? Have used this in the past so I'm confused. Any suggestions much appreciated since I need to get this done & mailed off ASAP. Thank you!

Once in a while few blank dvds may go bad.
Try to clean them or try a different batch.

  • DVD won't mount in Finder

I'm running Mac OS 10.5.2. When I put in a DVD, and ask that it mount in finder, I get the message ""the operation could not be completed because you do not have enough access privileges" I have two superdrives. The problem occurs with both. I have called apple tech support.
    I have tried the following:
    1. Repaired privileges ("ACL found but not expected in "Library") and repaired disk (no errors)
    2. Logged out and tried another account- same problem.
    3. Installed Leopard on a clean partition. DVD Mounts on clean install. Then ran Migration Assistant. After migrating my software and prefs., the problem reoccurs.
    5. Restarted Finder
    6. Tried DVD in another Computer. It mounts in finder w/o problems.
    7. Zapped PRAM
    8. Googled til my fingers bled.
    9. Pounded on my motherboard vigorously with a ball-peen hammer. Well, OK, I didn't do that, but I'm getting tempted... :o)
This is obviously a corrupted file somewhere. I really REALLY don't want to do a clean install and then reinstall all my software.
    Anyone got any ideas?
    Thanks,
    RP

There may be a permissions issue with your home folder, which transferred to the new partition when you migrated. Repairing hard disk permissions with Disk Utility doesn't repair the Home folder. Start the Mac with the Leopard install disc and go to Utilities → Reset Password → Reset user permissions to default. Leopard Cache Cleaner also can repair home folder permissions.

  • Blank DVDs won't mount

My iMac mounts DVDs containing content, but ejects blank DVDs without mounting them. Same problem with CDs.I reset the PRAM, but this did not cure the problem. Anyone have any other suggestions? Does my iMac need repair?

You need to check what DVDs your player/recorder can handle.
Go to the System (apple) menu and choose ‘About this Mac’ then click on the ‘More Info...’ button.
In the contents column of System Profiler choose ‘Disc Burning.’
Now look at CD-Write and DVD-Write and Write Strategies in the right hand pane. These are the types of media you can use. Many iMac G4 units could read, but not write DVDs.
If your iMac can write to CD/DVD,  you are using the proper media format, and your drive STILL will not burn, then the burn lasers may be malfunctioning or dirty. Try using a CD/DVD cleaner (actually, a spinning brush) to clear off dust and dirt. If that won’t work, then you probably need to replace the drive.

  • Why doesn't a blank DVD show in finder?

    Hello,
I insert a blank dvd with a view to burn one photo on it and it doesn't show in Finder! There is absolutely nothing wrong with the dvd.
Also, I have one photo saved on the desktop and I just want to burn that one only. Can I do that? If so, how?

OK, when it asked what to do with the blank dvd, I did no click 'open finder'. Guess I should've done that.
As for the photo, simply drag and drop it into the dvd drive. Duh. Ignore this topic. Thanks, bye!

  • Blank DVD's being ejected upon mounting.

I know there's a topic right below me about DVD's being ejected, but that topic is about all DVDs. My problem seems to be just blank DVD's and burned DVD's. I've tried different brands, doesn't seem to be the problem. I was thinking about trying a cleaner, anyone have any brands in mind? Also, if that does not fix my problem, could the optical drive be replaced?

If your machine is under a year old, I would take it in for service.
    If your machine same thing.
Wouldn't want you to damage your machine so badly they'd say its your fault they have to repair it, and they wouldn't want to cover it.
