Dcr sr-300

I bought a sony dcr sr300. Is it compatible with imovie08? I've gotten mixed answers. If it's not perfectly compatble, are there easy ways of making it work?

do you have a solution for me.
I don't own this camcorder but do convert a lot of MPEG-2 (MPEG, M2V, VOB) content to other formats for further processing. My application of preference would be MPEG Streamclip (free) with the QT MPEG-2 Playback component ($20) installed. The basic work flow is as follows:
1) Copy camcorder content to your hard drive.
2) Open the conversion application.
3) Drag or Open the file(s) in the conversion application.
4) Convert to your desired target intermediate compression format in which you wish to edit.
5) Import converted files to iMovie event folder(s).
MPEG Streamclip will allow you to convert to DV, AIC, Photo-JPEG, MPEG-4, or H.264 with uncompressed, Linear PCM, or AAC audio. Any combination of these compression formats can be edited in iMovie '08 and DV, AIC, or MPEG4/AAC are compatible with iMovie '06 without secondary conversion during import. Other applications like iSquint (free), FFmpegX (donation-ware), Visual Hub (pay-ware), etc will also work but may not offer as many target compression options.

  • 4x3 DVDSP Menus from 16x9 anamorphic video

Title: 4x3 DVDSP Menus from 16x9 anamorphic video
Goal: Create 4x3 scaled videos from 16x9 anamorphic asset
    Asset: NTSC - CCIR 601 / DV ( 720 x 480 ) from Sony DCR SR-300
    Solution:
    Create a sequence; cmd-0 to see settings;
Turn on Pixel Aspect Ratio anamorphic 16:9 ( this makes the Canvas look like wide screen )
Select custom frame size; Set WidthxHeight 480x480 ( Canvas now looks 4:3)
    Because:
Pixels are 16:9 so while 640x480 is in 4:3 ratio, the pixels are wide so the frame is wide
Meaningfully mnemonically: 480 is three-quarters of 16 so reducing the frame width to 480 gives you fewer pixels wide but the wider pixels push the outside dimensions of the canvas to the 4:3 you need for the DVDSP menu display.
    Caveat:
When loading a clip into the sequence, say No to setting the Seq Settings to the Clip settings.
You've customized the sequence and you don't want the clip to change you sequence customization.
    Verification:
I saved this as a QT Ref Movie; loaded it to a DVDSP 4:3 Menu and it looked the way I expected.

    Hi,
This issue most likely is related to a communication problem with the database or a corruption as we can see from the logs :

Please stop and restart the system. You may need to re-initialize the database.
If this does not work, please contact technical support.
The next step is to re-initialize the Campus Manager database. This procedure will delete all the records and maps that you have in Campus Manager, you would need to run a new Campus Data Collection and User Tracking Acquisition to have clean and fresh database information.
If that ok with you, you can try the below steps to re-initialize the Campus database. By doing this, it will not effect any other database of LMS will clean Campus Manager database.

  • DCR-HC62 MiniDV - Is this a good one?

After exhaustively reading these forums, I've come to the conclusion that I want to trade up to FCE-4 (from iMovie 06 and iMovie 08) AND I am going to buck the trend and stay with a tape miniDV camera. I presently have a HUGE Sony Digital8 camera and thought the trade up to the Sony DCR-H62 would be a significant trade-up in quality. It doesn't look that way in the specs.
It seems that the highest end consumer camera Sony makes (HC62) doesn't really spec out any better than my 8 year old Digital8 (TRV 240). In fact, the new Sonys don't even have a microphone jack - bummer.
I'm wary of Canon since I've heard that they want to be the sole firewire device which negates dumping footage to an external firewire drive. Sonys have been good to me, but my question is...is there a really good consumer level Sony out there or even some other brand (not sure about Canon) that makes great SD footage? Maybe the HC62 is a super camera. The specs say the HC62 has a 1/6" CCD Imager - so does my 8 year old TVR 240.
I've obviously been out of the camcorder buying mode for quite a few years, but I was hoping their would be a significantly better spec for a miniDV camera than what I see in the $300-500 range.
Does anyone have the HC62 out there in forum land or is there another camera altogether that I should be considering? If I'm wrong about Canon hogging the external firewire drive, let me know.

While Canons have a reputation for wanting to be the only device on the Firewire bus, it's not as big a problem as it may appear. For some, it works just fine even when an external FW drive is connected. If not, the workaround is to capture to your internal drive and then when you're finished capturing, disconnect the camera, connect the external drive and copy the clip file(s) to your external drive. I know that sounds inconvenient but it's really not that big a deal.
What Mac do you have? If it's a Mac Pro or a MacBookPro you have the option of adding a second firewire bus, which eliminates the problem altogether.

  • How do I convert an old DCR file to a standard video file, like MP4?

Preferably, I would like to use a free, easy to use program to convert old DCR files to a video format that I can upload to YouTube, etc.

You could put the files somewhere and I can export them as QuickTime. Or you could find anyone you know who has Director. Or do the 30 day trial download
Another approach would be to play the DCR in a browser window, and do a screen recording. But that’s unlikely to give the perfect frame rate that you would get by exporting from Director.

  • ID5.5 image dpi cut from 300 to 150 in save as ps, acrobat to pdf

When I submitted book interior to printer, they said some images were 150 dpi. I checked the ID file links, and they showed them as 300 dpi. My process to pdf was: from ID, save as postscript file, then use Acrobat Pro with the PDFx1a2001 profile to create the pdf. Any thoughts on where in this process the images would be downgraded to 150 dpi? Here is the file as ID shows it:

  • Looking for help getting imovie to recognize sony DCR-SR47 camcorder

Has anyone been able to up load to imovie from sony DCR-SR47 camcorder?

It depends on which camcorder you have.
If it records onto miniDV tape (..or "microMV" tape..) then you definitely need to use FireWire; nothing else will do. Buy one at any electronics store; it's called a FireWire or DV or i.Link cable. It must have a teeny 4-pin connector at one end (..to plug into the camera..) and a larger 6-pin connector at the other end (..to plug into your Mac..)
..unless you have a new MacBook Pro, which needs a slightly different shaped 9-pin FireWire 800 connector instead of the 6-pin connector.
You cannot use a USB connection for tape-based camcorders, even if they have a USB socket ..as that's just for transferring stills, not video.
If your camcorder does NOT shoot onto tape, then you'll need to transfer via USB. That applies for all chip-based and hard-drive based camcorders, and - I think - DVD-based camcorders.
All current AVCHD camcorders use USB.
If in doubt (..but there should be no doubt..) read the camcorder's instruction book. If you can't find the instructions, download them from the manufacturer's website ..almost all instructions are available online.
But if it needs FireWire - if it's a tape-based camcorder - you CANNOT use USB.

  • Sony DCR-DVD505 Handycam: Unable to get video clips, audio

Evaluating Adobe Premier.  Hopefully helpful for other Sony DCR-DVD505 users.
    Objectives:
    1) Get videos from Sony DCR-DVD505 handycam into Premier Elements
    2) Drag and drop various clips into Sceneline
    3) Insert menu markers
    4) Burn DVD
Stuck in Step 1, getting video from handycam, unable to get video clips (with audio)
    First Try: NO AUDIO.
The Sony DCR-DVD505 burns a mini-DVD (1.4 GB) while recording.  After "finalizing" the disk, the media may be imported into the computer.  Streaming was supported by Windows XP driver but is no longer supported in Windows Vista.   In fact, Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2) does not even recognize the camera as a DVD drive!  So downgraded to Vista SP1 and used the Sony Picture Motion Browser to import media into computer as MPG files.  Each MPG file is a clip (corresponding exactly to camera record on-off sequence while shooting).  Then opened up Adobe Premier Elements 8.  Used get media to import all the MPG clips into "Organize".  Dragged and dropped various clips...inserted a menu or two and...burned the DVD.  PROBLEM: VIDEO OK, BUT NO AUDIO(?!).  The MPG files on computer play fine (with audio) inside Windows Media Players.  Read all sorts of nonsense about why Adobe Premier (probably old versions) cannot work with "low-quality/compressed" MPG and needs to be a particular type AVI soo....
    Second Try: Capture VOB directly
Forget the camera.  Insert the mini-DVD directly into computer DVD drive, create a new project and followed directions from  "Lowdown on VOB" http://forums.adobe.com/message/2117743 and "tools to convert to DVI" http://forums.adobe.com/thread/415317.  I loaded the VOB directly and dropped them into  Timeline as advised by the second post (only hitch being the first VOB pertaining to the DVD menu is not recognized and is neither needed).
However, File > Export is always GREYED out (unusable).  And the status at bottom right seems to be looping on "Background Rendering".  DO I WAIT?  In any case, the whole video is showing up as a single continuous stream and what I want are the clips from the camera?!
Then I tried Prism (again as per the second forum post mentioned above).  It simply did something to process 30 minutes of video and crashed in the end without explanation - saying there was an error in conversion.
Is this AVI conversion even a good idea?  How would I get my clips back??
Bottomline.  My mini-DVD and imported MPGs plays fine in Windows Media Player.  However unable to extract the camera clips (with audio).

Dawg, I have the Sony DCR-DVD305, and have been using it successfully for quite a while with PE7, with few issues, once I had a workflow nailed down.
I believe the 505 is basically the same camera, with some additional features.
This workflow worked for me in the past so I'll pass that along:
Sony Browser to PC as Mpeg.
Mpeg to Windows Movie Maker, output to DV-AVI, taking default settings.
    DV-AVI imported into PE7.
This should also work for PE8.
Upon getting Cyberlinks PowerDirector v7, my new workflow changed to this:
I take the min-DVD directly from camcorder to my PC, and capture the disk via Power Director.
PD will convert the VOB's directly to DV-AVI Type 2 on one pass.
    I then load this DV-AVI into PE7.
(PD v7 was pre-installed on my new PC from HP, or it can be purchased from Cyberlink).
    Other options to try:
Copy the VOB's directly from the mini-DVD to your PC and use Prism to convert these to AVI.
Or load the VOB or Mpeg into PE, then use that to convert to AVI.
(Export to DV-AVI with PE8 is done with SHARE/PC, not Export under the File Menu, which is greyed out).
I've had many issues trying to work with Mpeg's and VOB's when loaded directly to PE with limited success.
So if you can get it converted successfully to AVI outside of PE, I've found this to be a better approach.
Post results, if any of this works for you...
Note: One other thing, if you are working directly with VOB's to PE, especially multiple VOB's from a single DVD, you can encounter out-of-sync issues between video and audio. If this occurs, review this link from Muvipix:
    http://muvipix.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2469:

  • Unable to import from Sony Mini DV DCR-HC46

I'm attempting to import video from a Sony Mini DV camcorder DCR-HC46 using a Sony iLink cable.
iMovie seems to recognize that the camera is attached and control it (clicking Import or Play will cause the camera to start playing). However though the camera is playing video iMovie window remains blank (blue).
I'm pretty sure that the cables are fine, since I was able to use them earlier with an old G4 power-book.
I've gone through all the suggestions in the Apple support page.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    -Anthony

    I quote QuickTimeKirk:
”Open the Audio MIDI Setup application (Utilities folder).
Try changing the settings to 44100Hz (CD Quality) or to 48000Hz (typical of the iMovie formats).
Others call this the GarageBand fix. Opening GB also resets the Audio MIDI Setup.”

  • How do I take 300 dpi photos with my iPhone 4s? And how do I export them to my MacBook Pro at 300 dpi to use as I want to print photos.

How do I take 300 dpi photos with my iPhone 4s?
And how do I export them to my MacBook Pro at 300 dpi to use as I want to print photos.
I have been using the standard camera on the iPhone and require 300 dpi to create photo books as the photos are resized according the layout.
Your time and assistance in appreciated.
    Thanks

    Thanks Tonefox!
After looking at a few of the links I found a mathematical equation that assisted me.
    Inches = Pixels/DPI
    eg: 3 inches = 300 pixels/100 DPI
Using this equation and the fact that iPhone 4s takes photos that are 3264 x 2448 I was able to work out the largest print I could make with 300 DPI.
    Width 3264 pix/ 300 DPI = 10.88 inches
    Height 2448 pix/ 300 DPI = 8.16 inches
Therefore, the largest print (with 300DPI) I can make of these photos is 10.88 inches x 8.16 inches.
    Which is great!
So is it critical for me to change the dpi in say photoshop or does it not matter as long as I don't go above the 10.88 inches x 8.16 inches?
From what I can gather the smaller I resize the photo the higher the DPI and the bigger I stretch the photo the lower the DPI?
Further clarification will be much appreciated. Thanks

You can't view your back up files at icloud.com.
You can't view your camera roll and you can't view your Photo Stream files at icloud.com.
The icloud back up plan allows you to "restore" your iOS device from the files you backed up at icloud.com.

  • Getting a hp mce remote for touchsmart 300-1125

I want to add a remote control to my HP Touchsmart 300-1125 and am thinking to order the 5070-5600 HP remote (random link: http://cgi.ebay.com/HP-COMPAQ-5070-5600-Media-Center-Remote-Control-/330414657906#ht_805wt_911).
    I wonder about two things:
    1) The IR Receiver *is* built-in, isn't it? (Device Manager lists a functional eHome IR device)
If in doubt, where should I look for the IR receiver sensor on the case?
    2) I think the 5070-5600 remote lists as being made for the older IQ series of Touchsmarts. Will it work with the newer 300 series?

All MCE remotes from the past 8 years send out the same codes. There are a few newer HP specific codes, but 95% of the buttons are exactly the same, grab a 5 year old Gateway MCE remote, it'll work just the same as a new HP one!

  • Envy 120 cartridges. HP 300 or HP 60?

    Dear Support,
Few months ago I bought a new HP Envy 120 All-in-one-printer and I'm happy with it. Now the print cartridges are quite out so I'm preparing to buy a replacement.
I really don't know what is the correct code. That is: if I go to printer webpage, Tools, Product Information, Print Gauge, I see that the part number for cartridges is HP 300. Then I click the link "Order supply" (..Sureidentifier will identify the printer for you), but the supply is not identified (the search engine of suresupply doesn't even recognize "HP 300"). If I search for "Envy 120", the suggested replacement is HP 60.
Which is correct? HP 300 or HP 60?
What about region limitations? I bought the printer from Amazon, I don't know where it really comes from.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Mario,
If the printer provided with the 60 ink cartridges, it is only intended to accept those cartridges for America.
The 300 ink cartridges are intended for the same printer but for Europe.
If you moved to another country in Europe you should contact the local HP Support in order to reset yoru pritner to acept those cartridges.
Please let me know what region you are from so it will be possible to provide you the local contact details for a such.
