  • 648 max L and kingmax ddr 400

I can't get the Kingmax DDR 400 memory to work with the 648 Max L motherboard using SPD settings.  What are the proper settings to get it to work?  Thanks.
    P.S. I have BIOS 1.4

Set the ram timming to normal , and the cas to 2.5 , then boot up.. if all is still stable then you can set the ram setting to fast . but don't go above that because it will not boot after that.. But I will tell you this , you won't gain anything but going higher.. in real world apps that is..

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum nForce4 Ultra and 4 GB SDRAM DDR 400 Problem

I have the K8N Neo4 Platinum nForce4 Ultra and 4 1GB sticks of Corsair ValueSelect DDR 400 (PC 3200), model VS1GB400C3, filling all four slots. The BIOS recognizes about 2.88 GB of total memory. The MSI manual states:
    Quote
Due to the South Bridge resource deployment, the system density
will only be detected up to 3+GB (not full 4GB) when each
DIMM is installed with an 1GB memory module.
I'm not sure what this means. Does it mean that I'm "wasting" my SDRAM, that not all of it is used, or does it mean that all of it will be used and the BIOS just reports a smaller number?

    Hi.
You seems not familiar with X86....
As you should know, Windows XP and most OS are 32 bits. That mean that every memory pointer is 32 bits, thus allowing to address 4Gb of memory.
    BUT
In most OS, there is a difference between the kernel and the user. So, in most OS, the memory is divided in two 2Gb block (no matter how many Gb of Ram you really have!). The first one is for the OS, the 2nd for the user program.
So, If you have for example 3Gb of ram, in the best case, you have 1gb for system and 2Gb for user program.
To allow more Ram to fonction, PAE (Physical Address Extension) was made. Instead of 32, you got 36 bits for you pointers.
But as X86-32 CPUs can't handle more than 32 bits, a reserved area was made within 4Gb to allow Memory to be copied from the area the program want to read.
    Exemple:
You got a server with 8Gb of ram. In windows, you only see 3.5+512Mb PAE.
If a program need to address memory in the 7-7.5 Range for example, the chipset copy the data from the 7-7.5 range to the 3.5-4 range in order to allow the CPU to get access: that's VERY slow.
So, in short: You can't have and don't need 4Gb of ram on 32bits OS.
(And there's even more place occupied by every card (AGP, PCI, PCI-e)....)
That's why XP64 is so interresting for programmers who needs lots of ram (Database....). When used with a chipset who know how to deal with lots of ram (I don't know if NForce4 can do it but I doubt it), you can load in memory a 4Gb Database.
But In all case, the bios should say 3.5Gb, not 2 and so on. You must have a problem with one of your stick. My guess is that they are all double sided and that you should slow down the memory to 333MHz.
(Or better: Send back 2x1Gb stick and get 2x512 SINGLE SIDED stick, unless you REALLY NEED 1.5Gb for your system !)

  • Memory Error Neo2 Pt 4*512 DDR 400 or even 333

Ok, this board has started giving me a lot of problems. 1 week ago all was fine, and suddenly I started getting BSODs. Last friday the computer shut off after a BSOD, while I was just browsing the internet.
Affter that it failed to start and gave a BSOD on every boot.
Then it started automatically again. And woked well.
On sat the system wont start and gave long beeps, indiicating memory error.
    4*512 Ballistix default spd.
so I reset my BIOS, upgraded bios to 1.A ballistix edition, as syar suggested.
Computer ran well / rebooted well.
but when I did a cold start sunday morning I got long beeps again. Even resetting the BIOS did help. Got long beeps.
I took 1 module out and the system started well. went into the bios and manually set bus to 333 rather than 400, default spd timings.
Computer started well. I put the 4th module back in, and all worked well till I did a cold boot today, and back to continuos beeps.
Now the only way the computer works if I just use 2 memory modules.
I tried manual voltage, manual timings, spd timings, timings on crucial's site, voltage on crucials site. No luck.
currently i am on 2*512 dimm 1-2, default spd and voltage and system seems to work.
whats the prob ? Is my memory bad, which I am not too sure off, bcos I tried running 2 modules at a time from the 4 matched pair, and tey seem to work.
Only the all 4 wont work, and 3 in also gives problem.
is this motherboard messed up ?
bcos I am really thinking of switching to a diff platform as since day 1, less than 1 month ago, this mobo is giving me probs with X2 dual core.

    https://mywebspace.wisc.edu/phora/web/cpuz.htm
Alright, I updated the BIOS to the latest beta, modded by side effect.
put back the 4 modules in, and they are running now
    2-2-2-7 DDR 400 2.8V
though the HT is 3x unlike all previos times when it was 5x...anything to do with the probs ?
anyways, I still dont know how long this config will last, for I have has successful bootups in the past, but they end up failing later.

  • DDR 400 = two sticks at 200 bus speed each, or 400 each?

I ran CPUz on my new 2 X 1GB DDR 400 PC 3200 sticks and it said both are running at 200 each.

200mhz is the rated speed for each of your memory sticks.  DDR (Double Data Rate) lets them perform at 400mhz.

  • KT880 Delta 3GB DDR @ 400 with XP3200 Barton @ 400 fsb

    Hi All,
First off...  I've been reading lots of usefull info posted on this site... But I dont have the time to absorb and fully assymilate everything.  (sorry for spelling)
I really do need some help / info / advice.....
    System : XP3200 Barton 400 fsb
: MSI KT880 Delta.  Latest Bios (NOT BETA BIOS)
               : 3 gb ddr 400 Ram
               : Terratec EWS88MT Sound Card (IRQ 3)
               : 120 bg Maxtor 8mg Cache
               : PSU 550 watts
I am trying to use 3gb ddr in single channel mode. however if a place 2 dimms in socket 1 & 3 it uses them fine in dual channel mode. Now i want to use all three, so add one in socket 2... EEEEEEK    @ boot check says read write error checing NVram.
Next I change DIMMS to other sockets, regardless of what DIMM's are in what socket if im using 3gb it says read write error.. only 2 gb works properly and fully recognises the memory.....
I bought the memory from the same place, same manufacturer, same clock speed, same spec and They all look identickle      now forgive me if im wrong but i also bought the MOBO as it said could use 3gb in single channel mode...
My Brain is about to meltdown  can anybody help me....  Please... Please....
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Guys I'm back again
Ok here goes...    Following all the suggestions above and lots of very intensive reading (As novice in Training ) I am pleased to advise that i am no futher along the road to sorting the memory error and also changing the IRQ in XP not that that wold help any.
I bought a good 600w PSU with 30A on the 3.3v rail and all other rails capable to run :
    3 x HDD
    1 x SoundCard
Thats is no more peripherals in there am trying to keep it as minimal as possibe.
Oh and I upgraded my GFX card to a Radion 9550 256m agpx8     thats very nice and seems to work well.
Right then has anyone anymore suggestions apart from throwing this board in the dogs kennel ??
    Best Regards
    Claire

  • Msi k7n2 delta2-FSR and problems with memories(ddr 400);help me!!!

    hello!!!!.
I am very frustrated because is imposible that memories work fine to 200*2.I´ve tried twinmos and now ocz premier ddr-400.When i used memtest i have a lot of errors and frozen in windows.
If i choose vdim 3.30 memtest no errors but this is a voltage very high.I don´t now what can I do.
Is a bug of this motherboard?
In other forum tell me that this motherboard don´t work good with memory to 400 but the motherboard has dual channel.
    i need help.
    thanks!
    pos data=sorry for my english

how can you have a stable OC if you have memory errors?
i don´t Know but prime no errors.
Quote from: Stu on 26-March-06, 01:48:25
forget about the OC for now, and get it working properly at stock speeds, then you can worry about getting an OC right
I have tell than 166 cpu(default values in bios),there are a lot of errors(more of one hundred and froozen in windows) in memtest.

  • KT4AV and 1Go DDR 400 RAM...

Hi all ! Sorry for my bad english, i'm french.
I have a problemwith RAM. I've just bought 1 Go RAM DDR 400.
On my KT4AV user's guide, it is said that this motherboard can support up to 3 Go RAM, but just one DDR 400.
This morning, i try to add this 1 Go RAm to my 3rd slot (the 2 others have each 256 Mo RAM). Everything seemed to work good: windows boot up fine, my system only show 1.256 GO RAM...I tried to launch a game anyway: my system rebooted!
I tried to just let the 1 Go RAM: my system boot, but when i try to launch a game (Red Orchestra or Max Payne 2 or Silent Hunter 3 or European Air War), my system freeze, i can't even use ctrl+alt+suppr...all i can do is reset!
    Do you have any advices?
    My system is:
    AMD Athlon 2600 + 1.92 Ghz
    GeForce 7600 GS AGP 8x 512 RAM
    Windows XP Pro
Fortron Epsilon 600 watts for my power supply.
512 DDR 400 (for now....one thing is funny: the user's guide tells that only one DDR 400 can be supported, but i've 256 DDR 400 on my slots and everything is good!!!)

Freezing mostly is from an overheating processor. Could you say temps, please.
Processor and memory runs best at equal speeds.
... What if you made your left leg move faster than the right one, how would your "system" move along.

  • DDR 400 in msi 180?

    Hi
Has anyone tried to install a DDR 400 memory in a Mega 180
The specs say it works with 333, but I think it should work with 400, although the real speed would be 333, but I want to make sure.
    Thanks a lot

    Quote
I'm no Mega PC expert, but with my KT600 motherboard you can run the CPU say at 333 and the ram at 400, not massively stable...
it IS possible to do this in Mega 180, however not if you are using onboard graphics, cos the integrated GeForce 4 GPU doesn't like runnning faster than 333. but as there are temp issues running at stock speeds, attempting to overclock a Mega 180 is not really recommended.
IMHO i can't see the point in paying more for DDR400 RAM if it is only going to run at 333...

  • KT4V en 2x DDR 400

    Hi I have a msi-kt4v with a amd XP 2700+ and 2 modules of 512 MB DDR 400 (both msi certified), 350 W psu.
The modules run at 333 Mhz seperately. When I use one memory module there is no problem whatsoever, doesn't matter wich one.
But when I them both the computer won't start Windows XP (clean install). I have tried all combinations with the 3 slots but none works  ?( Ialso tried memtest and no problems where found.
I know it states in the manual that only 1 ddr400 module can be used, but that shouldn't be an issue because I let them run at 333MHz.
Or is that the problem regardless of letting them run at 333.
Maybe any of you has an solution for me, cause I haven't got one. X(

  • For the user who plan to buy HyperX PC3200/DDR 400

as the topic said, plse be aware of the HyperX Ram module
    model name is
    KHX 3200A 256/512MB
    KHX 3200  256/512MB
the model name with an 'A' at the back will not perform at CL 2, unless you run it at DDR 333. even the Kingston website it say that the 3200A can run at CL 2, but it cant. because the ram got 2 Highest Cas Latency.
    Highest CAS Latency   2.5 @ 200 MHz
    2nd Highest CAS Latency   2.0 @ 166 MHz
the model name without an 'A' at the back will perform at CL 2. which is only have one Highest CAS Latency = 2.0 @ 200 MHz
so be aware of it when you plan to buy the memory module
P.S, i have try more than 5 pcs of the KHX 3200A in MSI 875 Neo motherboard, all is CL 2.5

    I've got 2x512MB of the Hyper-X "A" RAM
I agree with what PoRsChE has said above. I am also unable to run my RAM at cas-2 with RAM set to 400. Like many other people here, my cas is stuck and if I change it, it just reverts to 2.5 in the OS. This is true even if I try to go up to cas 3!   I can't think of any reason why this is.
Strange though, if I set the RAM to 333, and crank the FSB to 250(which brings the RAM back to it's original 200Mhz(400DDR) I can run it at cas-2. This would be great except I'm not interested in running my CPU so far out of spec. so soon after buying it.
If anyone is able to run their HyperX3200 "A" RAM at cas 2 and 400DDR in 1:1, let me know how.
If anyone had trouble with being unable to change their cas latency and found a fix, let me know how.

  • Conclusion: Cannot get Neo2 stable w/ 512x4 DIMM @ DDR 400+ with Venice core!

You can read about my whole troubleshooting process here https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=85550.msg611686#msg611686
Basically to sum it up, BF2 freezes up when trying to run 512x4 ram 2T when using any speed above DDR 333. Seeing as how BF2 runs fine with 1 gig, and is is the only program I have that uses over 1024mb of ram at one time Im pretty sure its a hardware problem and not a software problem. Ive tried every voltage and every timing combination I can think of, reinstalled drivers, flashed different bios, and even reformatted XP just for the hell of it. The only stable configuration is using DDR 333mhz @ 2T. Unfortunately the performance hit is very noticable at this speed and not worth the added memory.
Im not yet sure if its just a limitation of the Neo2 motherboard, or if I have a buggy Venice core, or if its a PSU issue. Has anyone been able to run 2 gigs with the Neo 2 and a Venice core at or over 400 ddr? And if so could you provide details to your configuration and settings? It'd be much appreciated.
Also if anyone has an idea as to what the likely cause of the problem may be Im all ears as well. Thanks.

Thanks for clarifying for me JayBee. Im wondering if I have a buggy Neo2 because the Venice memory controller should be able to handle this. Or maybe its the chip. Whats so vexing is I have no way of telling which is exactly the problem child if I want to try and RMA either one.
As for the timings Ive tried 2.5-3-3-7 and 3-3-3-7, neither made a difference. I tried to go even looser with 3-4-4 and it wouldnt even post. Im running out of ideas.

The limitation (333 for 4 double sided dimms) applies to Newcastle and Winchester, although if you look at the thread Liverkick shows above, at least one person has achieved 400 speed with 4 dimms at 2T with Winchester.
And I still have trouble believing that one. Not saying he's lying but I have a feeling his DRAM settings may have been on auto 333mhz or he just misread. If a Winchester is really handling that much memory @ 400 DDR he should sell it on ebay as a special collectors item.

  • Ddr 400

Hey there, recently upgraded to 1gb RAM but my 3d mark score in 2001 has dropped by 200 points since putting the extra ram in (both same type of ram, crucial - PC 3200) is there any way I can tell if it's still running at 400 and not 333 ? I can't find anything in the bios.
    - Thanks, Spike.

I heard the same thing about using all three memory slots...so I went ahead and tried it out. In slot 1 i'm using a Kingmax 512 module, and in slots 2 and 3 - i've got
Kingston 256's. After running "cpu-z" it verified 205.0MHz x 2 = 400Mhz (thanks step-dad)! So there you have it...I think it all depends on what type memory is used.
I went to tomshardware to read the mobo reviews and got a list of approved memory for this board (before I bought it).
Also read an article about pc2700 versus pc3200, and yes - on the early ASUS A7N8X deluxe boards, 333 mem outperformed 400 mem for athlon xp's!

  • Help! sis648 max-L+DDR 400 =Problems???

    Hi there,
have recently bought sis648 max-L and still hope I will bring this mobo to work!!!
I mainly use my computer for games. But had always freezing problems during games. It was either quiting the game abruptly to fall back to the desktop or simply ffreezing the screen and then I had to reboot.
I tried all I know to stabilize my system in changing bios settings, tried out directx 8.1 and 9.0, checked the ram, flashed the bios from version 1.2 to 1.3, tried to play with minimal video settings in each tested game (morrowind, hitman2) and installed all latest drivers I could find.
The only thing that improved the stability was to diseable the "spread spectrum" setting in bios.
Has someone an good advice what next I could try? ?(
Could it be the ram or the video card?
I would like to avoid buying new DDR or a new mobo... :]
    Thanks

    Hi everybody,
    thanks for helping me.
I changed the voltage of my ram from 2.6 to 2.5v and that improved the stability a lot.  :D
But I still got some freezings during games (but less often) and I had to run under "safe" DRAM timing settings... :(
To get a perfectly stable system, I had to "underclock" my DDR400 to DDR333. ;(
At least, I was able then to run my system under "ultra" DRAM timing settings.
What do you think, would I get better results with safe settings+DDR400 or ultra settings+DDR333 in games ?(

  • DDR 400 with KT6

Does Ram need time to work in?
if not then i might have a problem
when i installed my ddr400 i went back to 166 fsb and set the ram to 400.
the timing have to set on auto in order to work
But on the hynix website they clam that this ram can do 2/3/3 or 2.5/3/3 or 3/3/3..
I can not get nothen to work execpt auto mode??
I also tried setting the fsb to 200 well this did not even boot if it did it hung
Question? Does it take more power to run ddr400 then to run ddr333?

    so far they work @ 2,2,6,2 @333 Not 400?
doesn't boot when cpu is set @ 200 fsb with these settings
