DDR 500 memory compatible with MSI K8N Neo4 Platninum?

Hi Folks,
I have a MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum PCB version 1 (S939/Nvidia NForce 4 Ultra), running the latest BIOS version.  I wondered if DDR 500/PC4000 memory would work at DDR500 speeds?  I note that the MSI webpage for this mobo only mentions DDR400 and in the manual, the BIOS description under "Advanced Chipset Features" - "Memclock Index Value (MHz)" says the maximum speed is 200MHz.  However, when I go to this setting in my own BIOS, I can set it to 250MHz.  I assume that this should give me DDR500?  Would altering this "Memclock Index Value" above 200 MHz cause any other problems with FSB, CPU, HT, PCIe, PCI speeds etc. or is it completely independent?  Does anyone have any recommendations of what sticks would work best (I was thinking 2 * 1024 Mb of Corsair XMS or OCZ XTC).  Now that DDR2 is standard and DDR prices are creeping up, there doesn't seem to be much difference in price between DDR 400 and DDR 500 memory.  Evern if my mobo can't support it, is there any merit in buying DDR 500 memory and running it at DDR 400 or intermediate speeds?
Cheers!

The x2 4800 would run 10x250=2500mhz.
With ddr500 it's beautifull, since you can use the cas latencies which are suited for the memory.
I have to lower my timings a bit to run them at 500mhz.Not much though, but I don't know what the long term prospect is for my memory if I maintain that for long periods of time.
As for running games,I found lower cas timings make my games run smoother opposed to the slightly higher ddr clock with slower timings.
But as mentioned, set cpu vcore 1 step higher in bios, leave the memory at auto, set cpu fsb or HTT at 250mhz,and use the default multiplier of 10 or also leave on auto.'The memory runs in spec and you wont damage it,only the cpu's get another 100mhz and should be a little bit more spicey while temps shouldn't go much higher as it is now.
The sticks should fit physically and I ran mine once at 266mhz stable, and they are just pc3200@200mhz

You may firstly clear cmos and load defaults in the bios, and if it is available, please attach us a picture of the screen which the issue occurred when you hit enter during the its detecting the SATA hard disk. I am a little confused about what you said. Please tell me what changes have you made before the issue took place. I just want to help, so do many other people. But please firstly give us more detailed information.
I did it and nothing! Should I restore the original bios version that came with the mother?
I'll explain the problem: You enter BIOS, go to the disk properties (where says LBA, LARGE, CYLINDERS, HEAD, etc) and hit enter, usually the screen goes blue and shows a line at the bottom of the screen (they are like triangles pointing downside) and 2 seconds after everithing comes back showing the data of the disk ok? Well, now it hangs forever in the "triangles pointing downside" part and I have to restart the machine...
Does this belongs to the issue of the K8n neo4 platinum with the maxtor hdd's ??? The mobo is malfunctioning?
    Please helpppp! Thanks!

  • Is the Hiper Type- R 580 modular PSU compatible with MSI K8N SLI Platinum?

Hey guys, i just recently bought a Hiper Type R 580w PSU after my old PSU went bad.
I installed the new PSU a few hours ago and came across a problem, nothing shows up on screen.
When i turn on the computer, the green light is constantly on including my dvd/rw light.
I double checked everything were connected properly and everything seemed to be connected properly.
The cpu's fan are running properly including the graphics cards and the case's fan but i can't pinpoint whats causing the the green activity light to light constantly including the dvd/rw.
I also tried resetting CMOS but it didn't fix the problem.
So now i'm starting to wonder if it's to do with compatibility issues between the Hiper Type R PSU and my K8N SLI Platinum motherboard.
So i just wanted to know if the Hiper Type R 580 PSU is compatible with the K8N SLI platinum?
I would grately appreciate any assistance.

    In short no.
The Hiper Type- R 580 does NOT have a -5V supply line
Although the -5V requirement has been removed from some MSI designs, the MSI page for the K8N SLI Platinum http://msicomputer.co.uk/Products.aspx?product_id=703525&cat_id=77 states:

    • For ATX 12V power connection, it should be greater than 18A.
    • For this model, you must use the power supply that with a -5V pin supply.

    Greetings,
Can anybody tell me if they have configured the Thermalright XP-120 heatsink with an MSI K8N NEO4 Platinum Mainboard. I intend on fitting the AMD Athlon 64 3500+ CPU. I need to clarify if the heatsink/fan will impact on populating the DIMM slots, or any other aspect of configuration.

Using a Zalman 7000B-Alu (took the asus back plate off and used the zalman's).  Keeps things nice and frosty.

The hype was these boards would be available at the begining of December, and that, after some minor delays/setbacks.  I've been playing with parts ment for the NV4 based systems since the begining of December.   MSI used to send me test boards direct from Taiwan to debug and stress--hell, I couldn't even get them to answer emails let alone send a test board.

  • Is my speaker system compatible with MSI K8N SLI Diamond?

    Hi!
Can I use my old speaker system with MSI K8N SLI Diamond. My speaker system is Creative Inspire 5.1 5500D Digital with decoder. Now 5.1 sound doesn't work properly. When I try look movie with PowerDVD6, center speaker is dead and no speech on movie. On PowerDVD6, SPDIF output is selected and tried also 6.1 channel options but no, speech will not play at center speaker. Some games too 5.1 surround doesn't work. I have connected my speaker system on motherboard coaxial SPDIF to speaker systems Decoder coaxial SPDIF, and speakers on that decoder. Do I have to buy new analog speaker system to get 5.1 surround working? If I connect my speaker system directly on MB analog outputs, sound balance in very bad, rear and front speaker is good but center speaker crackling and speech at center speaker sound like volume level is much too high.

Quote from: Stick on 10-February-06, 19:24:28
if you know that the speakers are working (tested on another pc) it is usually a software configuration error. if the decoder would mess up the sounds, it is unlikely that you would hear anything in the other speakers too.
My speakers systems works perfect my previous setup, when motherboard has nForce2 SoundStorm integrated chip.
Some other forums, peoples claims that this MSI k8n motherboard can't send multichannel 5.1 surround audio on SPDIF and I have to connect my speakers on motherboard analog sound outputs.

Im trying to get the newest motherboard to work with my moterboard. All sensor display either 0°C or -127°C. It´s a MSI K8N Neo 4.. I know there is the corecell prog but it cannot output the temps to samurize

yepp i know that mbm is discontinued but it´s the best program that samurize reads temps and other things from.. I´ll try speedfan and se if samurize supports it
Samutize supports speedfan... I use it myself.
Got the speedfan running with auto-fan speed... So quiet... and fast response to temp. change

  • Is the 1GB Crucial BallistiX PC4000 memory compatible with the K8N SLI Plat?

I know its listed as compatible on Crucials website, but does anyone here have this combo running, and if yes, at what settings?
And another question: Does the 1.1 version of the board still have the Sound Blaster Live onboard soundcard? Because on MSI's german website its listed with the realtec AC-97 onboard sound. Obviously the text is in german but the specs are "international", there you can see the onboard sound specs.

Edit: Oh, and is the Diamond worth the extra money? I mean I dont care about this "special service" or whatever its called, Im talking about features and performance compared to the Platinum.

    Streifenkarl,
I do not have the RAM but I am sure it will work with the Neo4.
The SLI Plat has the SB Sound Card. If the website says no, then it is a Typo.
    Take Care,
    Richard
Ah, cool thanks. I will buy this board then. But I have two more questions: Does the 7800GTX fit or not? I have heard both. And which BIOS version should I use once I have the board?

  • AMD Athlon64 X2 compatible with MSI K8N 7125 Bios 1.C??

    Hi All..
Query as in Topic... I read that only nForce 4 Ultra SLi verson can support X2 dual core processor. Please enlighten me

    HI,
Where did you read that info ?
Most F3/NF4 MoBos supports X2 dual core processors with later bios updates.
    MS-7125 / 1.C bios will offically support a X2 dual core processor.

  • Sudden shutoffs with MSI K8N Neo4-F motherboard

I have reviewed other posts on this forum and it appears that this is usually a PSU problem, but mine is somewhat recurring, so I thought I would post to check.
I built this computer ~3 years ago. After a couple of years I would experience random shutoffs. Either when I was using the computer or not, the computer would suddenly shutoff without warning ~ once or twice a day (often but not always associated with reading/writing to a second hard drive as part of a backup routine). In order to start the computer again I have to unplug it, wait for the flashing power light to turn off completely and then plug it back in again.
I replaced the power supply with a RAIDMAX Hybrid 2 RX-530SS +3.3V@28A,+5V@34A,+12V1@20A,+12V2@17A, [email protected], [email protected] and the problem was corrected for several months.
A few days ago the problem reappeared exactly as it was before. What is the probability that it is again the power supply? Could something about the motherboard be frying the power supplies? I don't have access to another one so I would like to narrow it down before I have to replace something. Replacing this old 939 motherboard won't be easy, so I hope to avoid this.
    Thanks!

I got a new one of the Raidmax power supply, which did not resolve the issue. Because the same exact configuration had worked for over 100 days (and for about 2 years with a previous, weaker power supply), I decided it was the motherboard. I realize this wasn't an ideal power supply, but again, the fact that this configuration had worked for so long indicates to me that it is very unlikely to be the power supply (unless the motherboard has become more picky with time).
I replaced it with a ASRock 939Dual-Sata2 and everything appears to be working great now!
Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I thought I would update the status so that other people searching in the future would know that replacing the motherboard could solve these problems (although because I didn't replace with the same motherboard I can't be 100% sure that it was solely to blame here).

  • MSI K8N Neo4 FI Compatible with AMD 3800+ X2?

    I just bought:
    MSI K8N Neo4 FI
    AMD Athlon 64 3800+ X2
    Gainwood 7800GT Golden Sample
    hec Pb-480PB 480W
Problem is that i don't get a picture when i start the computer.
Everything seems to work, all the cables are plugged in.
The gfx has power from the cable.
Can it be that the motherboard dosen't recognize the CPU, and that won't give my a picture?
    Help would be appreciated.

That should be enough to start the computer. It has two +12V rails, which are of good enough ampage.
Now it looks to me like it needs a newer BIOS version to recognise the CPU.
See: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=651&kind=1 I think this is your motherboard?!
You'll need another A64 CPU to flash the BIOS though.
Just to settle akhille's mind, you could also try a better PSU.

If you creat a signature (in profile) it will save you having to type your spec's  out each time or us looking for it. Use mine as a template.
What PSU are you using ? Can you list the power output ? (writen on side of psu)
Going from your specs you listed your graphics card is very hungery on power so I would suggest your psu isn't up to the job under load.
Post the spec and we will know for sure.
