DDR Backup holdtown timers?

We want to backup a serial line, connected to a 7200, which, by itself, is connected to a radius-server. Via Ethernet, we have an as5300 connected to the 7200, where the ISDN backup should terminate. The problem is, that if the 7200 goes down, the effect is that
<p>a) backup ddr is triggered
<p>b) no connectivity to radius is available.
<p>So the CPE dials, and dials, and dials (about 15 times a minute, with no success of course).
any idea for this scenario? how can i configure a backoff, which dials for example 3 times, waits for 2 minutes, dials 3 times, waits for 4 minutes ... and so on?

I'm assuming you have no control over
the CPE device? If so, the only way is
to either move the AAA server so that it
is more redundant, or add local authentication
to the 5300.
If you have control over the CPE dialing,
then have a look at dialer redial.

  • Flex backup interface

hey I have cisco 2960 switch I want to ask about flex backup interface configuration on it my ask is that the STP would remove from whole switch or in the interface only !!

Setup your router interface cards such that the interface w/"physical-layer async" comes before the interface it will be used to back up. It will then get initialized before the "backup interface" command.
Implementing dial-on-demand routing (DDR) backup on a router that uses
Network Address Translation (NAT) involves more configuration than is
neccessary for regular DDR backup. This is because the router must translate packets to and from the "inside" network using different "outside" addresses depending on whether the primary or backup link is active." ... "Make sure that your Internet Service Provider (ISP) can provide you with two different IP addresses or subnets. Use one IP address or subnet for the DSL connection and the other for the backup ISDN connection. IP addresses on the two dialer interfaces need to be explicitly assigned and cannot be negotiated during PPP negotiation. This means that the ip address negotiated command is not permitted under the dialer interfaces.

  • Experiences mixing DDR memory modules

Would you people post here experiences mixing DDR memory modules in order to help me/others take buying decisions?
I currently have a PC2100 256MB Samsung module and a MSI KT266 PRO2 and want to buy a new module.
As I  cannot find one similar to the one I already own want to assign a success likelihood before taking my decision.
    Thanks in advance Gustavo.-

Had a similar problem afew week's ago. I've got 2 identical stick's of 256Mb Samsung original DDR333 Cas 2.5, decided to upgrade to 1Gb and bought a stick of 512Mb Geil DDR333 (GL2000 Chips) Cas 2.5 for 45 quid. Installed the Geil in slot 2 (with the samsung sticks in slots 0 and 1) booted up o.k
bio's and windows detected the ram just fine.
After rebuilding the windows page file I started to test the extra ram by running 3dmark 2001 but kept getting  BSOD's (Irq's less then..., Page faults in non ...etc) mid way through the test's. I went in to the bio's and relaxed the ram timing's to spd, no change. Increased the ram voltage's, no change.
So I thought I'd do a fresh install of windows, but 3/4 of the way through copying the files off the windows cd I kept getting 'can't copy xxxx file from the cd', tried cleaning the cd, tried a backup cd same problem, took the samsung memory out and just put the Geil stick in slot 0, the system wouldn't even boot, but with the samsung stick's in on there own window's installed o.k. I tried the Geil stick in another system, which booted up without a hitch. So finaly I just took the Geil stick out and gave it back, the suppliers tested it and found it to be o'k and charged me 20 quid for the privalage, Ba%&!%@s.
Last week I borrowed a stick of 512Mb Twinmos DDR333, same problem's as the Geil. Seem's like they don't make them like they used to and I'm doomed to 512Mb with this board.

  • Backup problem of Oracle XE

    Hi,
    Greetings.
    OS: windows XP
    DB: Oracle 10g xe
I wanted to backup the xe database.
Firstly, I chose the simplest way according to the 2day DBA, clicking the "*backup database*" menu item.
But I only got a popup dialog, showing messages like "*The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.*"
I failed to solve this problem and the program terminated always.
So, if someone has any idea about this, please help me. I really want to use this simplest way.
Then, I had to use the backup.bat script in D:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\BIN from a cmd.exe window.
This time, I got error message below.
As I am a newbie of Oracle Db, I am really confused by the errors.
Could someone help me solve this?

I am really confused by the errorsYes that is understandable, for first timers in oracle the environment can be intimidating, its not easy interpreting the errors and knowing what the system is trying to tell you.
The rman backup utility pretty much works "out of the box" with defaults for most everything. And the XE installs a database, its "out of the box" defaults are noarchivelog mode, and changing that is easy (well, after its done it seems that way ;) )
First off, looks like the database wasn't running when the backup started, note the "connected to target database: XE (DBID=2604187256, *not open*)". Check the services applet and see if the database service is running- a shortcut to get there is Start/Run and type in services.msc.
Installer adds about 5 service entries, the database service is called OracleServiceXE, if its not showing a "Running" left click it to highlight the entry, and click the Start Service button.
Now try the SQL statement that the backup.bat is trying to run, its just making a pfile backup of the server parameter file- in a command box (Start/Run type in cmd) run sqlplus and connect sysdba, try a variation on pfile backup (i.e. if you have a d:\temp folder, or adjust as appropriate):
    $ sqlplus /nolog
    SQL>connect /as sysdba;
    ... Connected ...
    SQL> create pfile='d:\temp\initXE_bkup.ora' from spfile;
...That will give you a backup parameter file, so if something happens to the server parameter file (i.e a parameter is set incorrectly in the spfile) you should be able to get past a startup problem via startup specifying that pfile:
    SQL>connect /as sysdba;
    ... Connected ...
    SQL> shutdown immediate;
    ... database unmounted ... database closed ...
    SQL> startup pfile='d:\temp\initXE_bkup.ora';
    ... database open ...
    SQL> shutdown immediate;
    SQL> startup;
... database open ...The startup by itself will use the instance spfile. Or a startup mount; is the first part of changing to archivelog mode. However, comma, if a location for the archivelog files isn't set the database uses the flash recovery area, its good practice to create a folder for archivelog files and set the logfile destination and a format for the logfile names.
And the 2 day DBA doc, backup and recovery chapter, is a good place to get more info on managing backups http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25329_01/doc/admin.102/b25107/backrest.htm#i1004902

  • Behaviour of AP Timers

    Hi there,
I am currently fumbling around a little bit with the AP timers on our WLCs in order to improve convergence.
For this I activated the fast heartbeat for local mode APs.
The documentation states the normal heartbeat timer must be at least 3 times larger than the fast heartbeat timer.
Also for the AP to switch the WLC it takes to heartbeats and after those fail 7 heartbeats every second.
That would be 17 seconds with a fast heartbeat timer of 5 seconds.
I am a little bit confused regarding the relation of the heartbeat timer to the fast heartbeat timer.
As I understood the local mode APs only rely on this fast heartbeat timer and don't care of the normal one anymore.
Why should I be concerned if the normal heartbeat is not 3 times larger?
I then decided to just put it to the test and see how fast the AP converge. It took the AP about 21 seconds. I expected this variance of 4 seconds to be the preceding heartbeat, during which I denied the AP access to the primary controller.
When allowing access of the AP to the primary controller again it took about 114 seconds to switch back.
I suspect this is due to the AP Primary Discovery Timeout with a default of 120 seconds. Is this assumption correct?
I cannot explain otherwise as heartbeat messages are only sent to the current associated WLC.
I also noticed when configuring them over the CLI there is a new timer:
    config advanced timers ap-primed-join-timeout
    According to the CLI description:
Configures AP Primed Discovery Timeout value between 120 and 43200 seconds(12 hours).
Can someone elaborate on this command please?

Instead of posting a new discussion I will use my old thread.
The issue above is mostly solved my testing around although I still havent found out what the config advanced timers ap-primed-join-timeout does as well as the 1:3 relation between heartbeat and fast-heartbeat. If anyone knows I would be grateful for the information.
Before I come to my actual question here some background information just for the sake of completeness:
During the event of a controller outage the AP sends 5 retransmission packets by default in a 3 second interval when using the normal heartbeat.
    AP Debug output:

It only shows the timers for the normal heartbeat procedure.
I then proceeded to change the retransmit count parameter to 8
(WLC) >show ap retransmit all Global control packet retransmit interval: 3 (default)Global control packet retransmit count: 8AP Name             Retransmit Interval  Retransmit count------------------  -------------------  -------------------Access-Point             3 (default)      8
With fast heartbeat disabled it turned out that during a heartbeat timeout the retransmit count will use the new value of 8.

I did another debug with fast-heartbeat enabled which confirmed my suspicion. The retransmit count stays at 5 counts instead of only 3.

  • DLSw - Backup Delay

I have DLSw redundancy configured. My circuits often drop from the primary dlsw peer and connect to the backup. I assume it's missing a certain number of responses back from the primary peer.
Is there a way to change the timers and cause the router to wait at least 60 seconds before switching over the backup dlsw peer?

    Hi,
    Configure this parameter...
    Dlsw remote-peer 0 tcp x.x.x.x (primary peer)
    Dlsw remote-peer 0 tcp y.y.y.y backup-peer x.x.x.x timeout Z
Z is the time after which, peering takes place over backup link.
    x.x.x.x is primary peer
    y.y.y.y is backup peer
    Think this should work.

  • Need help on dial backup with ISP

I've been googling around a couple hours and can't find a simple configuration for dial backup to an Internet Service Provider.
So far, what I've been able to find is direct dialing to routers and dial backup using ISDN.
All I need is for a router to dial. The ISP uses PAP/CHAP authentication and dynamically assigns IP addresses to dialup accounts.
I have an 1841 router with a T1 line on S0/0/0. I want it to fail over to the modem on the AUX port and use that as the new default gateway for all traffic.
    Any help is appreciated.

I think you can use Dial on Demand Routing (DDR) as described here:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk801/tk133/tsd_technology_support_protocol_home.html
and this particular guide as well:
    http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Internetwork_Design_Guide_--_Designing_DDR_Internetworks#Dial_Backup_for_Leased_Lines
Basically your dial connection will not be active until certain traffic will pass through.
Now, to pass traffic only when primary is down, you can define a static floating route as explained above, which is a route with a higher admin distance than the default one, so if the normal route is up, nothing will pass to the dialer, if it's down, the route to the dialer will be used.
To detect that primary route is down, either use dynamic routing or route tracking as suggested.
    I hope that helps.

    bastien.

  • SCCM Custom DDR created classes cannot be deleted completely

  • Restoring Time Machine backup from Time Capsule.  Very slow times solved

For me at least . .
Like many people it seems, I have had enormous problems trying to restore data using Time Machine on a Time Capsule. The data had been backed up fine. The problem was the time for restore which initially was projected at 125 hours for 235GB. Reality suggested that (after 24 hours) this estimate was going to be about right and clearly unacceptable.
I cancelled the backup and read as much as I could across bulleting boards.
The main impression was of a howl of frustration from the many people who had experienced the same problem.
The collected actions below were assembled from many threads and ultimately ended in success. I hope they help.
My initial setup was as follows:
PowerMac G5 Power PC (2005) with 8GB DDR SDRAM (1000BaseT Ethernet connector). Mac OSX 10.5.8
1TB Time Capsule on Ethernet network via a 100BaseT Hub.
I was restoring to a 1TB USB 2.0 Seagate External Desktop Drive (ST3100005EXD101-RK) attached via a USB Hub to the G5.
Having read some threads, I did all of the following:
    • I brought the TC into my home office and connected it directly to the Ethernet Port of the G5 to allow the most direct connection from TC to G5
    • As suggested in one thread, I replaced the Cat5 ethernet cable I was using with a Cat5e cable (Cat6 is better) to allow 1000BaseT connection to the G5.
    • I turned off Time Machine backups and MobileMe Sync.
    • I terminated all unnecessary applications the computer
I restarted the restore and the result was the same.
I read more widely and then did the following:
    • I reformatted the Seagate target drive using GUID and Mac OS Extended (Journaled). (Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility>choose top level of target drive>Partition>choose number of partitions under Volume Scheme (1 for me)>Options (button under partition window)>GUID Partition Table>Apply and wait quite a while. I had originally had it as Apple Partition Map and GUID was recommended on one particular thread.
    • I plugged the target USB drive directly into the USB port on the front of the G5 to eliminate the hub as a potential cause of the slow data transfer.
    • Readings suggested that Spotlight might be trying to index one or both of the TC and the target drive. To prevent this the author suggested adding the TC unit and the target drive to the Privacy tab of Spotlight (System Preferences>Spotlight>Privacy. Click + at bottom of window and navigate to target drive/s to add). Activity monitor showed as much data being sent as received so this seemed a likely contributor to the problem. I added both drives as described.
    • Somewhere it was mentioned that IPv6 might be causing the problem. I turned it off (System Settings>Network>Built-In Ethernet>Advanced (bottom right of window)>choose “Off” in Configure IPv6 drop box.
    • I unplugged the Internet connection from the TC to ensure no chance of this being a factor.
    • My G5 doesn’t have an Airport but if you do you should also turn this off. You want to be quite certain that there are no connections that either the computer or the airport can channel data through other than the Ethernet cable.
    • I don’t have anti virus software but this should also be turned off as it seems this was slowing down data transfer for many people.
    • I shut down the G5, the USB target drive and the TC and restarted them all. After start up, I once again shut down all unnecessary programmes.
I restarted the Restore and, after the customary long wait as it added up all the files to transfer, it announced that the restore would take 4 hours (as opposed to the five days it had suggested previously).
Activity Monitor now shows data transfer rates of 17mb – 18mb per second and it looks like 4 hours is going to be about right. It also shows large amounts of data being received but now with negligible amounts being sent.
I’m afraid I don’t know which of the above is the bit that solved the problem. It could be a combination but I believe that if you do all the above, your restores / backups will all go at an acceptable speed.
A last note to thank all those individuals whose wise words I scoured for these instructions. I hope their collected suggestions are of some use to others.

The migration assistant or the original backup?
I tried WiFi, Ethernet and on the second attempt with a fresh backup on a USB drive.

  • Cannot Boot Windows XP Backup Image

A Windows XP partition suddenly stops booting, and it gives a BSOD when executing a disk driver that I tracked to Diskeeper.   Rather than debug the original partition, I attached a SATA drive that contains an image backup of the original system partition
and made it Active and in the BIOS selected it as the boot partition.   I boot from that backup drive in Safe Mode and now the Windows startup screen never finishes.   The final screen with the Windows XP logo draws, but no users appear and ctrl-alt-del
pressed multiple times does nothing to bring a login prompt.
I suspect that this backup drive may not be seeing itself as the "C:" drive, and as a result many references to files in the registry are no longer valid.   Is there any utility I can use in a preboot environment to force the backup drive
to become drive C: when I boot from it?    How do I do that?

In order to assist you, we will need the .DMP files to analyze what exactly occurred at the time of the crash, etc.
    If
you don't know where .DMP files are located, here's how to get to them:
    1. Navigate
    to the %systemroot%\Minidump folder.
    2. Copy any and all
DMP files in the Minidump folder to your Desktop and then zip up these files.
    3. Upload
the zip containing the .DMP files to Onedrive or a hosting site of your choice and paste in your reply. Prefered sites: Onedrive, Mediafire, Dropbox, etc. Nothing with wait-timers
    4 (optional): The
type of .DMP files located in the Minidump folder are known as Small Memory Dumps. In %systemroot% there will be what is known as a Kernel-Dump (if your system is set to generate). It is labeled MEMORY.DMP. The difference between Small Memory Dumps and Kernel-Dumps
in the simplest definition is a Kernel-Dump contains much more
information at the time of the crash, therefore allowing further debugging of your issue. If your upload speed permits it, and you aren't going against any strict bandwidth and/or usage caps, etc, the Kernel-Dump is the best choice. Do note that Kernel-Dumps
    are much larger in
size due to containing much more info, which is why I mentioned upload speed, etc.
    If
you are going to use Onedrive but don't know how to upload to it, please visit the following:
    Upload
    photos and files to Onedrive.
    Please
note that any "cleaner" programs such as TuneUp Utilities, CCleaner, etc, by default will delete .DMP files upon use.
If your computer is not generating .DMP files, please do the following:
    1. Start
    > type %systemroot% which should show the Windows folder, click on it. Once inside that folder, ensure there is a Minidump folder created. If not, CTRL-SHIFT-N to make a New Folder and name it Minidump.
    2. Windows
key + Pause key. This should bring up System. Click Advanced System Settings on the left > Advanced > Performance > Settings > Advanced > Ensure there's a check-mark for 'Automatically manage paging file size for all drives'.
    3. Windows
key + Pause key. This should bring up System. Click Advanced System Settings on the left > Advanced > Startup and Recovery > Settings > System Failure > ensure there is a check mark next to 'Write an event to the system log'.
Ensure Small Memory Dump is selected and ensure the path is %systemroot%\Minidump.
    4. Double
check that the WERS is ENABLED:
Start > Search > type services.msc > Under the name tab, find Windows Error Reporting Service > If the status of the service is not Started then
right click it and select Start. Also ensure that under Startup Type it is set to Automatic rather than Manual. You can do this by right clicking it, selecting properties, and under General selecting startup type to 'Automatic', and then click Apply.

  • MPLS CE with PRI backup

Hi, have a customer running MPLS CE and their main connection is in FastEthernet form which is a 4Mbps MPLS connection. They have a single PRI which will dial-back to the core of the MPLS backbone (AS5400 Universal Gateway)...I've a few question to clear at this stages.
    i. The CE is configure with static route, can I configure ISDN DDR when they use static route as the primary routing protocol, I plan to configure some floating route, and if the fiber connection down, and the original static route next-hop is unreachable, the interesting traffics will trigger the floating route and hence initiate the ISDN PRI dial-up. Is the concept here right?
ii. Since the ISDN PRI dial-up are dialing to a AS5400...there's a problem whereby the MPLS backbone is built on Juniper platform, in order to re-establish all the existing remote site's connection, the AS5400 need to have either a L2TP or a VPDN to the Juniper PE...is that right? and if so, how shall I implement the AS5400 so that it can work in conjunction with the Juniper PE? I tried to look at the Juniper PE (either a M10i or ERX700), it just support l2tp dialout whereby i can't see any dial-in options available? does that means that the ERX700/M10i does not support the L2TP dial-out from the AS5400?
I'm very new to these kind of ISP backbone thingy, but would like to know if you guys face the situations like this, what's the best practice?
Thanks and appreciate if someone here could help

    Hi,
Seeing the constraints you have, you will need to proceed as below.
    1) Position LAC and LNS/PE services seperately.
LAC would be your 5400 and LNS/PE would be your Juniper.
    2) You will need to do partial authentication of the incoming session on
PPP and then direct it on L2TP towards the Right or closest LNS/PE device.
When passing the L2TP session to the LNS/PE the LAC will also forward the
authentication details received during the first negotiation with the remote
client. No type of routing for VPN required for this on the LAC.
    3) The LNS/PE would need to have Raidus integration done, and will pass the
authentication parameters received via LAC to the radius server and then
would termiate the incoming L2TP into the appropriate VRF.
    4) Since your Juniper supports Only Dialout, I believe you can configure LAC
to request a Dialout from the LNS/PE.
    5) Also its possible to preserve the receive packet TOS when encapsulating
it into L2TP tunnel. (I have attached a link below, check the feature HW/SW support)
    6) Since you are not providing a remote-access service, but a backup for existing
VPN customers, you need to take care of the routing part as well. between the
CE customer Nets and the LNS/PE, the LAC or your AS5400 wont come into
    picture for this.
Its actually very difficult to explain more implementation specifics that this,
since it involves different components, but again if you proceed like below, with
a clear high level idea as described above you should be able to cap it.
For the above implementation you need to have expert hands with Radius, Juniper &
Cisco AS5xxx series, if you explain the scenario as above to the team each team
may be able to carry out the required tasks, as mentioned, making your
    implementation simpler.
Having said that I believe your scope is limited to only AS5400 configuration?
    HTH-Cheers,
    Swaroop

You must copy the backup pieces from SysA to SysB -- to the expected location. This would be the same directory path as on SysA.
See the documentation on the DUPLICATE DATABASE command :
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14194/rcmsynta028.htm#RCMRF126
If the target and duplicate databases reside on different hosts, then you must do one of the following tasks for duplication to be successful:
Move backups and disk copies from the target host to the duplicate host to the same location as the target host so that the path names are identical
Move backups and disk copies from the target host to the duplicate host to a new location (so that the path names are different), and then CATALOG them.
Make sure that all backups and copies (disk or sbt) on the target host are remotely accessible from the duplicate host. Make sure that the archived redo logs are available in the expected location in the new host.
