DDR LOCKING UP

theis is my 3rd DVR and first and this one every both had and has a lock up problem (second did not work at all)
what happens is when fliping thru channels  it will hard lock powe light goes off then chanel go off turing it black then the power buton turns on the the chanel chages to next and then it happens over and over in the same cycle. and verizon tech has no clueof they had have no clue why digital voice does not work in my house as it locked up my modem several times a day and after they repaced 5 modems and then the ont and it still was not fixed they switched me back to the old voip phone and the problem disapered and they never could figure out why that happened eather
this would not bother me as much if they restored the ability to take out channels we never watch such as spanish, sports, non subcribed and religion channesl which was a feature they had in the guide when I got fios orginaly and it was sweet as there  was a list of all the channesl with a check/uncheck  box next to it  and you never see the channels that were unchecked even after a power outage which destroys my favorites every time it happens which is to often in tampa to varrent doing it that way
but  they took out when they did an update to the hardware and never put it back in

Yea cte I'd be shopping around for a new PS that is rated for AMD and get something that's 350W or better with high ampere output and 'true' wattage.
Look at what Wonkanoby has or some of the other ppl that list their specs under their posts and buy accordingly. Yes you can spend alot on a PS but in the long run it's worth not having the issues that arise when you try to add in other stuff and it bogs down the PS because it can't feed enuff power anymore.
As far as your memory goes, it sounds like you bought generic memory and I'd be shopping for something in the Corsair range (this stuff isn't cheap either) but you'll get awesome performance from it and not have the headaches you're having now.
Yes to the video question, the BIOS is allocating part of your memory right off the top to allow the onboard to work so you 'lose' part of it. Having a separate video card is always better IMHO. Don't know that your old card will live up to the standards of the high end MB you've bought and at first thought I would say no it wouldn't. Just my opinion tho.
All in all a new video card (AGP), new PS and memory seem in order for you here to get the most out of what you bought!
Take care! 8)

  • KT4 ULTRA w/ 3200 DDR Locks/Reboots WinXP

Having random stop errors w/instant WinXP reboots when trying to run PC 3200 DDR Memory.  Stop errors w/reboot stop when lowering the memory to 266Mhz.  Get the same errors @ 333Mhz.
However, when memory is lowered to 266Mhz the system now has a video device crash when playing Warcraft III in a "heavy video/action" scene.
    System:

    3C905B TX NIC
    ATi Radeon 8500 64MB
    WinXP Professional
All Latest Drivers installed (VIA, ATI, WINXP Patches...)
System will lock when trying to do a clean install of XP Pro if RAM running at 400 Mhz.  Lower RAM to 266 or put in some old 266Mhz chips allowed system to install.
Looking for possible solutions to make system stable.  Is it the board / RAM / PSU / or Video making it crash.   Was thinking about upgrading Vid to ATI 9700 but have been reading many negative posts regarding that card.  Instead looking to upgrade to MSI 4600 Vid thinking MSI would make sure thieir boards and Vid cards work together..  This is just a pain and have already wasted too much time when I've had 2 XP systems running for over a year with no lockups/crashes/reboots.  I guess I've had good luck for too long.

yuri & jebradec41: Think it would be better for you both to start your own threads as most possible that similar problems can have different causes. It will be difficult for you to search your answers and the thread could be too long.
DivideBy_0: If your system run well for more than 2 years, think you shouldn't try a so high jump from 266 to 400 in memory. If your CPU is 266 FSB you wil not get too much speed running a 400 mem. And seems that Samsung mem. doesn't like to run at fewer speed than the supposed. And of course the 300 watts P.Su. looks the weakest part of your system. We'r waiting for the AMPS. And you could try clearing CMOS as juri did.
yuri: Some of the above applies to you. As both say, System worked OK with a 266 Mem. As you both had a system working, you managed to create a problem.
You say: After reseting the CMOS, the board starts working with the ram, on 200MHz and CL3.  Then, what's the problem ? You have to give P.Su. specs as asked to DivideBy_0
jebradec41: I have to go now. Sorry.

  • K7N2 Delta lock ups

    Hi there,
I've got a MSI k7N2 Delta sitting in my PC atm. But with a nasty problem. I have to keep the cpu sitting in it (AMD Barton 3000) underclocked for me to use my PC for more then 40 mins at a time. After that time, it just freezes, and the sound card (not system speaker) emits a nasty high pitched sound. Using a more intensive game, i.e. planetside speeds up the process, somethimes running for a mere 5 mins. To use the pc atm, the cpu is clocked at 1.4Ghz, instead of the over 2ghz it should be at.
    Any suggestions anyone?
    Specs:
    K7N2 Delta
    AMD Barton 3000+
512Mb Kingston DDR (on compatibilty list)
    ATI Radeon 7500
    SB! 128
    Antec 400Watt PSU

ok, after some more testing (man i love CS  ) it still locks up, but it took longer initially. It now just freezes, with no beeeep from the sound card. It may be temperature related though, as after the intial freeze, it will now only take a few minutes before it does it again. Straight after it freezes I'm getting temperature of around 50 on all monitors.
Ill whip out that TV card and give it a whirl now
p.s. case fans, i think one is in the wrong way, is the spinny side supposed to facing in the case, or out the case? cheers

  • MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU video lock-ups

    Hello,
I have a 3 month old MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU.  I am running Windows XP Professional and I am having a periodic lock-up where the screen will show blinking colored blocks and the system will freeze.  Sometimes just hitting reset will cure the problem.  Other times, hitting reset will create two vertical stripes of colored blocks scrolling down the screen.  I have used the board on two entirely separate systems (One with AMD Athlon 2000+, Gainward GeForce 4200, 512 MB Samsung 2700 DDR, Western Digital Expert HD (tried both IDE #1 and RAID controller) (Other System, Athlon 1800+, a different Gainward Geforce 4200, 256 Crucial 2700 DDR, an older Maxtor hard drive).  In either system, every once in a while, the system will freeze as described above (it has happened in Netscape 7.0, Microsoft Word 2000, America's Army game).
I have played around with the bios settings, reformatted hard drives, tried various revisions of the nvidia display drivers, swapped out video cards, etc.  Any ideas?  Do I have a bad board?  Do I need to flash the BIOS?  If the board is bad, what do I need to do to return it?
    Thanks,
    Matt Gumaer

The second system has a 330 watt enermax power supply.  With the new system I put together, I put virtually the same board (MSI KT3 Ultra 2 with bluetooth and RAID), everything is the same as my first system (except the KT3 Ultra-ARU) and the stability is fine.  So, I'm reasonably confident its not the power supply.

  • Lock ups and sound looping!

I remember reading something here about people having trouble with their systems locking up and then getting a loud static noise then a sound loop when playing games.
I am getting this about 2-3 times a night now and it is driving me nuts, I do not have temp problems of any sort and I have all of the latest drivers for everything on my system.
      Any ideas?
    Specs in sig

Set your PCI/AGP Freq to 66.66/33.33MHz.
Increase your DDR Voltage to 2.7~2.8v.
Check if you have any background programs causing all high CPU load times while gaming.

  • Lock ups and dumping psyical memory!!!

Hi i have just installed a new pc most of the stuff im useing is from my old computer so i know they work fine im running a:
    P4 3GHZ Prescot 800MHz, HT-Enabled
    865PE Neo2-P
    512 DDR-400 Twin moss
    ATI Radeon 9000 pro
    PSU-400
    XP Pro
My computer locks up alot when running intense games (games have worked before no problem) i also get a error saying dumping pysical memory, i have looked about and tried to solve this myself, i found that someone was haveing the exact same problem as me and he fixed it by turning the FSB down as his memory wasnt compatable with his motherboard if doing that works how do i do it ?
    Many thanks Jonathan

Flappa, Your memory " clock" is fine and there is no need to "underclock it" as long as you did not mess with the Bios.
I had the same problems. I could not even get thru a Clean install of windows as it would Blue Screen
1- are you running in " Dual Channel Mode"?
2- If so is your memory a " match Set"?
    some times memory even thought it has the same markings is not matched . Dual channel sets are matched and made to run together in "Dual Channel Mode"{
( Even though I had the same manufacturer memory my set would not run in Dual Channel without " Blue Screening" I bought a Matched Set of Kingston Valueram and have not had a problem since
3- If it is not a matched set, pull one stick out and run it for a while , if it still bluescreens try the other stick
4- raise your memory voltage to 2.7 or 2.8 ( which ever is the lowest that it runs stable)
5- If all this does not work , run MEMTEST to see if there is a problem with both sticks
6- you are running a Bios Version that supports the " Prescott Microcode" right?
Let us know what your findings are
    Good Luck

  • Lock-Ups and Freezes PLEASE HELP

    Hello everyone..
I come here to see if anyone can help me... Ive done it all and nothing is working.
I just recently started having problems with my computer, im not sure why this happend but ill try to explain everything as best as I can.
The problem started a few days ago while I was playing SWG's. I was playing and all of a sudden my machine froze, the screen locked-up and then after about 2 min the entire system restarted. I then logged back into my windows and after a while a system froze and restarted yet again. I though it was a SWGs issue but then the computer would freeze while browsing the net and doing other tasks.
I have formated my machine, re-installed my drivers, and re-installed the hardward. Nothing has worked.
    My computer specs are
    300watt PSU Enermax True Power
    MSI K7n2 nforce2 8xagp mobo

    512mb of Kingmax DDR 2700
    SB audigy x-gamer sound card
    MSI geforce4 ti 4200 8xAGP graphics card
    Hope thats enough..
One last thing... When my computer restarts after the problem i get a message asking me to report the problem to microsoft... i located the error file and this is what was writen in it....

Please help me on this... Ive tried everything i can...
    Thanks in advance

If what you are saying, and I am reading correctly:
The machine and game was working just peachy and all of a sudden the problem manifested itself?
Did you do ANYTHING to change your system prior to this happening to possibly have an effect?
the fast that you said you have re-loaded the OS and removed and re-installed the hardware with the same result tells me that there may be some sort of hardware failure and this could get difficult to troubleshoot.
First things first, try a memory testing software like memtest86 to see if you get any errors.

  • MSI 4200 Locking Ups

    Problem:
Installed new MSI 4200 v/c and now when I start any game that uses 3d graphics the entire system locks within 15-90 seconds . One of two things happens everytime - The screen freezes or the screen goes black and the sound continues. With my older v/c ASUS 7700 there are no such problems on this computer.......it is smooth
    Setup:
-350 Watt power supply (bought today just in case old one was not strong enough)
-Gigabyte GA-7VRX with newest bios (R6)
    -Athlon XP 1800+ CPU
-2X256 DDR RAM (PC2700 if I remember right)
    -Dlink 10/100 NIC
    -Creative LIVE Sound Card
    -CDROM & CD-RW (Plextor)
-Windows XP pro with SP1 and all other updates
    -Mcaffee retail 6 virus scanner
** Nothing over clocked or tweaked in the Bios **
    So Far:
    - Updated to Detonator 40.79 drivers (also tried MSI ones)
    - Updated Via 4in1 drivers to 433V
    - Added Via test Driver 1 (recommended by others on another site)
Please advise how to make this card work or tell me where and how to get a full refund. The retail store I got it from wants a 25% restocking fee if it is returned, which I'm not willing to pay because my older card is fine. So it is this MSI card or a compatibility issue and I meet all the base requirements and more.
    Thank you,
    Kent

    Did you see the number?
    Quote
If you contact Gigabyte at 626-854-9338 you can obtain an RMA # to have your board reworked. To my knowledge, they are not replacing motherboards for newer revisions. If you are adamant about getting your board replaced and not reworked, you should contact your vendor, but please do not expect the vendor to go beyond their normal RMA policies to rectify this issue. They just sell the board. They will end up having to send back a number of motherboards for reworking just like the end users.
I realise that the article is dated July of this year but you could at least see where it gets you.
Otherwise, pay the restocking fee. You could end up without your system for some time if GGBite allows the RMA. You then have to ask yourself if being without the board is acceptable. What is your downtime worth?
    Man that really sucks :(

  • System lock ups

lately i've been having a lot of system lockup problms.. you know the ones where that spinning rainbow balls shows up on the screen. you know i never had a problm running adiumx firefox and itunes at the same time, but lately i don't know if its the updates or what, but i'm getting a lot of lock ups, to the point where i can't play videos on itunes, or quicktime without it freaking out and freezing every couple seconds, or when trying to load firefox it take 10 15 secs, and then forever to actually get to a webpage, i do notice when i turn of growl i don't have as many problms, any suggestions.

    teckie:
RAM can very likely be a part of your issue. If your 12" PB is one of the last 3 models it came with 256 MB of RAM. Considering the issues you are having you should consider maxxing it out to 1.25 GB.
ali b. mentioned your HDD. If your HDD has less than 10-20% free space it can contribute to the issue you are experiencing. It also increases the risk of directory issues, consequent data loss and even a crashing HDD.
Thirdly, I am not sure what maintenance procedures you use. But you should consider at least running Unix Maintenance scripts using a utility like MacJanitor, and doing Directory repairs and replacement with a utility like Disk Warrior. In addition, if you have not booted from your install disk and run Repair Disk recently, I suggest you do so.
Take a look at Gulliver's article on Mac OS X Maintenance for some very helpful tips and resources: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=607640&#607640

  • BIOS lock-ups after upgrading bios to v1.8

    Hi,
I have a K8N-Neo FSR motherboard with an AMD Athlon 64 3000+, 2x 512 MB DDR Memory, ATI Radeon 9600XT w/256 mb ram video card.
It worked fine for about half a year now, but now I decided to upgrade my harddisk from a 160GB IDE hard drive to a 300GB S-ATA hard drive.
Copying went fine, but I was not able to boot from the new hard drive, so I decided to upgrade the motherboard bios, hoping that that would solve the problem.
After updating using live update, which went successful, the pc rebooted.
I was able to go in the bios and check the hard disk settings, and everything seemed to be configured properly, so I did exit&save.
After rebooting again, the bios got stuck at the boot logo though, and no response to keys or anything else.
I tried clearing the bios, both with the jumper, and by removing the battery, but the problem remains.
After lots of restarts, sometimes I get a little further where it shows the energy star logo.
Sometimes I am able to get to the bios setup first screen (after which it locks up and I can't do anything)
Other times I just see the first lines, and yet another time I see 'Memory testing'
I can't boot from a floppy either, so I can't downgrade or reinstall the bios either.
On the back panel, the right-bottom led lights up green mostly when it is locked up.
Sometimes the left top led lights up red and the bottom left led lights up green.
Anyone has an idea on how to solve this?
    Thanks!

I had same issue for me the fix was to disconnect one of the SATA drives.   I am now having all kinds of issue, machine won't boot without 1 sata drive disconnected.   Was running fine last night on one drive, now machine is slow as christmas.   Takes 15 minutes to load a web page, start menu hangs when coming up for 3-4 minutes.   I was fine until the 1.8 BIOS upgrade.   I wondered if my motherboard went bad, but then I see three or four others having similar issues.   Can the motherboards be returned to MSI for a replacement?  While running version 1.8 I had the same issue seemed to boot OK on 1 stick of ram, but not both.   Once I flashed back to 1.7 now I can only run 1 harddrive.   What the !@#$@!# is going on.

  • G5 locking up, random screen pattern lock ups

Alright, this is actually my brother's computer, which he's had for at least a year and half, with no problems. I just recently started using it to play a computer game, World of Warcraft. The game ran smoothly with no problems for a couple of weeks. Then, some graphical problems started showing up out of no-where and eventually, within the next week led to the game and computer locking up randomly, requiring a manual restart. The fan in the back of the flat panel would get loud sometimes when this happened.
Now the comp freezes up whenever I even try starting up a game, not just warcraft, but will play videos just fine. (I already asked about the problem on that game's tech forums and they looked at the system specs and thought it might be a problem with this comp, saying that there was some recall on this model because of a faulty part.)
When starting up the comp, there are flashy, colorful streaks all over the screen, (probably 80% of the time)
Randomly when doing anything on this comp, a colored checker or bricklike pattern will cover the entire screen and require manual restart. It really makes it hard to do anything since we have to manually restart the comp a few times before the normal screen will come up. My question is: What might be wrong with this computer? Might playing that game have revealed the problem, since there had been no games used on this computer since now?

    IMac PowerPC G5 1.8 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    G'day Cory,
I'm starting to experience some of the same problems. When I boot the G5 iMac and its cold it will exhibit a heap of screen flicker in the grey screen and then boot normally. After that it boots to the OS with seemingly no problems ... except the screen refresh ... which leaves 'ghost' images all over the screen. When I Restart the problem seems to go away ... no screen streaks and lines at the grey screen, the screen refreshes as per normal ... and there are very few application hangs.
What I suspect is that since I have the original 20" 1.8 Ghz G5 iMac the resistors and/or motherboard have a fault which Apple acknowledged nearly a year back. It was common on PC's also .. hey who wants to spend 10 cents on a resistor when you can get the 'same' thing for 5 cents.
Apple announced a free repair program for this fault, so if that is what's the problem you (and I) should be able to get the puppy repaired free of charge by taking it into your nearest Apple dealer and letting them do their stuff.
I'm also covered by an AppleCare policy (hey, I had the DVD SuperDrive fail on my G4 Mac about 2 years into owning it - so figured better safe than sorry) ... but I figure this puppy will be repaired under the repair policy that Apple made known.

  • G4 Ti4600 VT2D8X - Locked games and other Problems

    HELP!
I have been having problems with games locking up.
I looked at the MSI info in display properties and the card was checked at 4x, even though my bios setting of AGP compatability 3.0 is listed as 8X.  It wouldn't let me check the 8X box.
So I downloaded the latest generic Nvidia driver (ver 44.03), and unfortunately, this cuased more problems.
Now I can't view the MSI info or MSI clock in display properties. I keep getting an XP error that says, "Run a DLL as an App has encountered a problem and needs to close"
Now mo matter how many times I uninstall the xp drivers and put the old one back in, I keep getting this error message trying to view MSI info in display properties.
When my games lock, threre isn't any sound loops happening, but the game freezes visually. I don't think I have a sound card conflict but here are my resources for you to take a look.

    Asus P4S8X MB
    Intel P4 2.8 Ghz processor
    you know the video card
CL SB Audigy 2 sound card
    2 sticks of 512k PC2700 DDR ram
    OS: XP
Also for the fun of it, I used Live update, only to notice that it detected a new driver for me to download for the Ti4800 card. Why does it not recognize my card?
    Someone please help.
    - Mark

    Richard and gfilitti,
Thank you very much for your continued help. This really means a lot to me.
Richard I do not use an antivirus program or a firewall program in the background for that matter.
The only other thing in my sys tray besides nview is a creative console. could that be locking things up?
    gfilitti,
I acutally dsabled that firewire right after I listed my irq's to test that out. It's still disabled and doesn't seem to help the problem.
Is it a necessity that I disable system restore before using drivercleaner?  If so I will do it, but would like to think the program would work as normal without doing that.  Also not exactly certain where to disable the system restore.
So by having 10-second lock up issues, is it safe to say that I don't have any hardware conflicts or potential ram conflicts? There are no irq's being shared and I don't want to pull memory chips if you already know that's not the problem.  I think I am getting close to ending this nightmare. Please help.
    Thank you!!!!!!!!

  • K7N2 Delta ISLR lock-up sound

    Help!
I just got a K7N2 Delta ISLR and installed it in my system. Over the course of a few painful days I've realized that system has a propensity to lock up after I load the sound drivers for the motherboard. If I don't do that the system is completely stable but of course I don't get sound. I get this problem even when I'm only using one hard drive with nothing else in the system.
I've followed liquidsoul's NForce 2 Installation How To guide on www.AMDMB.com's forum but to no avail. Has anyone encountered this problem or know how to fix it?
    Thanks!
    My system specs are:
    K7N2 Delta ISLR (newest bios)
    1400 Athlon
    2*128 DDR 266 (generic)
    Plextor 12X burner
    Pioneer 10X DVD-Rom
    80Gb WD HDD 8Mb
    40Gb Maxtor HDD
    40Gb Maxtor HDD
    Promise Ultra 100
    Windows XP Pro SP1
Logitech Cordless Optical (keyboard & mouse)

    Thanks Deathstalker & scooter787b!
When I set up the PC originally I only had one hdd in it and I did not install the promise card (you have to install them later because I've found I need to flash the bios of the promise cards so that it will be recognized by windows XP) so I guess I did do the KISS principle (I've learnt my lesson the hard way before).
That said I did the installation thing and everything looked fine. However, the lock-ups occur at no particular interval so after 3 hours and nothing wrong I installed most of the other hardware booted it up and it seemed good. But a day later the lock-ups started happening. Even removing the extra hdd and promise (btw I did put the promise card in PCI 3) card did not help (I went all the way back down to one hdd and still got the problems). I went through many reinstallations of Windows XP SP1 as well.
During the process of elimination I even bought a nice OCZ Dual DDR EL Kit but that didn't help. Also, I changed from my 350W enermax to a new 450W enermax. Problem did not stop happening. I know the hard drive I was using is in good condition.
In terms of drivers I tried the ones that came with it, 2.03, 2.45 and the realtek ones.
After 7 days of painful elimination I'm leaning towards the problem being the board.

  • At my wits end can any one save xmas for me Re K6Delta LSR And lock ups

    Hi Guys,
Right i have built a pc for the kids but when i try to get it to run it locks up randomly.
    Spec
80 gig seagate baracuda 7200 rpm
    Amd Athlon 2800 XP CPU
    Copper King Cpu Fan
    512 DDr 400 Mhz
    DVD Rom
    DVD 106 RW
ATI 8x AGP 9600 Radeon Pro
Latest drivers for all the above where aplicable are installed.
The machiene seems happy to back up data to the dvdrw and happy for general video play back and editing as well as spread sheets etc. But when it comes to game play the pc just locks up. I have tried another card and another cpu and mother board and on all occassions the symptoms persist. So i can rule out any bads componenets. The only thing i hav'nt changed is the ram but i did use a proggy called docmem which runs from a floppy and checks the ram which it was happy with.
When it crashes my cpu temp is arround 56o - 59o i thought this may be high but according to sources this temp plus alot more should not cause instability.
I got this reading on 2 seperate delta k6 lsr boards as well as 2 cpus ??
Any one any ideas. I'm stuffed and it's supposed to be a xmas presant for the kids but it wo'nt be much good if they cant game.
Is their anything else i should be doing as i dont belive that 2 boards 2 cpus can both be faulty.
    PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP QUICK

Perhaps you could try the usual stuff, I suggest you start with no 5 or 6, as the other then will be natural:
1 Are all cables properly connected: power cables, IDE-cables, sound etc
2 Are the units set as master and slave if applicable? Suggestion, keep harddisks on a separate IDE connection, No 1.
3 Are there any hard ware conflicts? See Control Panel/System!
4 Have you tried entering 'Safe Mode, if applicable, where you can see and remove surplus hard ware?
5 Try minimizing your system, and install just one unit at a time! Time consuming, I know, but rather effective.
6 What does the BIOS say about the installed units? Are they correctly acknowledged? Press Delete (or whatever) during start-up to enter BIOS.
7 Can you reach Windows Update? Microsofts knowledge base might also be useful.
8 Have you had backgroun programs running while installing software and drivers? Common problem when updating. The only thing you really, really need is Explorer, but SysTray is also recommended.
9 Run MSCONFIG or applicable to see what the computer thinks it should load and be running. There you can also remove programs to start automatically.
Hope things work out! Remember that its as easy to do a mistake as it is to forget it.
