DDR RAM voltage question

i have some sort of the K8N Neo4-F/FI (dunno exactly) with a pair of 512MB ddr ram 400MHz (hyundai chips)
i don't overclock at all, everything is at the default settings.
yet if i go to the bios and check the ddr settings, the voltage is 2.65V, i haven't changed this, this is the default setting.
shouldn't the ddr rams run at 2.5V by default? so why is mine running at 2.65? can i reduce it back to 2.5? i don't want any damage to my ram and i want them to last long.

just found on wikipedia, that ddr operates at 2.5V.
it really depends on the chip. since i don't think that hyundai makes mem chips, i'm guessing that you have hynix chips. the majority of the hynix chips on the DDR memories out there are either D43 or D5. both of them have a stock voltage of 2.5V, but the D43 has a max recommended voltage of 2.9V while for the D5 this is 3V. so i would say, you're safe till 2.9V anyway.

  • Z77A-GD65 - add more voltage to DDR RAM?

    Greetings.
I'm trying to OC my ram from 1600Mhz to 1800Mhz. My ram runs at 1,5V 1600Mhz, and I want to add a little more voltage to the ram for stability. But in BIOS under the setting of Voltage for ram the setting is locked at "auto".
Which setting in BIOS must I change to unlock "DDR Ram Voltage" to raise it a bit?

    Yes
    Thank you very much

  • K9N Platinum Ram Voltage??!

    Hello dudes!
Can someone tell me what ram voltage K9N Platinum is?!
O ill buy some memories, with 1.9 or 2.0v... and just wanna know what is ram voltage of this mobo...
i know asus m2n-e max is set to 1.95v... but dont know about K9N platinum...
So... if anyone can help me, i ll aprecciate..
    tnkz a lot!
Ahhh... almost forget... is OCZ compatible with this mobo??!
    Tnkz a lot!

I have the K9N Platinum motherboard aswell, and the standard DDR voltage is 1.80
OK, let me make it clear. there is no standard voltage on the mobos. the default voltage depends on the memory you are using. different memory modules will default at different voltages, as per the data that the manufacturer placed in their SPDs.
if you are talking about JEDEC default voltage for DDR2, then yes, it is 1.8V, with a maximum of 2.3V. you can read about timings and voltages for the JEDEC standard here:

  • Ram voltage problem

okay, I finally got up enough gumption to do the wire trick to unlock my 2400+.  That being done, I pushed the fsb up to 180 (With kingston 2700 valueram) with moderate stability.
Jedi knight 2 is a really oc sensitive game, so I cant play it at 180.  My question is, why the heck can I not adjust the ram voltage.  Every time I try to set it to 2.7, it defaults back to 2.6.  No matter what I do.
    Frustrating

Welcome to your bios.  Hopefully MSI will change this - it's a drag.  But for now, there's nothing you can do - I think.

  • Is there a utility that will show the actual ram voltage in Windows?

Sorry for the newbie question.  ASUS had this utility that showed the actual ram voltage in windows.  I don't think it'd work with an MSI motherboard.    And I don't think any of the overclocking utilities show the actual ram voltage.  The reason I asked was because the ASUS P5N-D overvolted my ram by .1 volts.    If I set 2.2v in the BIOS, it would overvolt the ram to 2.3v.  That's not exactly the greatest thing.  I just wanted to check if my brand spanking new P7N Diamond is doing the ram voltage accurately.  It should be right?  Oh and I have cheapo Patriot memory ram.  It's rated at 2.2 volts.  Seems like all PC2 6400 ram is rated at 2.2 volts these days though.  Maybe a 2.1v somewhere but that's becoming more and more rare.  Thanks.

yeah...  LOL.  Everest shows what you've set it to.  I can just look in the BIOS or just like remember 2 seconds into the past.  :-P  I guess there isn't something for that.  Just as I thought.  I wonder if I can trick the ASUS utility into thinking that I'm running an ASUS board.  :-P  Probably wouldn't work right anyway though.

  • K7N2 DELTA-ILSR AND DDR-RAM

I got K7N2 Delta-ILSR, the last bios version, and
2x256 twinmos pc3200 ram. The 50% of the times the computer startes without problems, but the other 50% it gets hang up when I start the computer and the "d-Leds" indicate:" the memory module is damaged or not installed properly".
I know that the ram-modules works, but not with this Motherboard.
I need to get new ram-modules.
Somebody have the K7N2 DELTA-ILSR, with ddr-ram that works ??? (not K7N2G- IL and ILSR)

  • Problem in installing a new DDR RAM on my board MSI 915GLM-V

    Hi,
I have a System whose configuration is as follows
    Mainboard:MSI 915GLM-V
    Processor: Intel P4 3.06Mhz(533 FSB)
    Bios :Award V3.3
Memory: 256MB(64*4) DDR RAM in one DIMM slot(333 Mhz).
I wanted to increase the memory to 512 MB and hence bought a new256 MB(333 MHZ and 32 *8) card. But whenever I insert my card, My system never boots up. I am unable to even enter the bios.
I even replaced my old DDR RAM with this new one. But still my system never comes up. Is there any reason that my system is not recognising the new memory. Or is it that 32*8 not supported by this motherboard.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Ravitej

Sorry, your DDR RAM is not supported.  You need 64*4 for 256MB, or 64*8 for 512MB.

  • Fastest Compatable DDR RAM For 648 MAX?

I've been reading about all these problems people have been having concerning RAM/motherboard combinations, and have concluded that my RAM is what is causing my problems (XP/2000 installation difficulties, unrecognizable Gainward GF4 Ti4200 card, boot up problems).  Right now, I have one Kingston Hyper X 512MB DDR434 RAM (which is going out the door soon) installed on my 648 MAX.
I originally thought the video card problem was BIOS related because the only thing recommended by XP was to update the BIOS (said motherboard does not support your video card's features; try updating your BIOS).  I tried that through LiveUpdate, and it messed up somehow during the flash, so I tried to restore the original BIOS, but the system was very unstable after that.  I'm about to send my motherboard back for an exchange.  I just found out by reading some posts here that other people have been having the same problem with a similar RAM/video card setup.
Also, I'm having extreme difficulty installing Win2000.  It installed the first time on a test HDD, but on my new one (WD 80GB 7200RPM ATA100), it wouldn't go in at all.  ;( It went up to the final file copying part (after entering the serial number), and crashed.  It kept doing that, so I gave up and moved on to XP.  XP went in fine the first time, but it wouldn't reinstall after that, even with a reformatted drive.  Other people are having similar problems, and said that once they swapped out their RAM, their problems were gone.
I'm just looking for the fastest compatible 512MB DDR RAM available for the 648.  Thanks.

Heh, funny thing, I was messing around with some BIOS settings, and somehow got my computer to work this afternoon! 8o Reinstalled everything, and was having a good ol time!  :D
Then, and even funnier thing happened.  I went out this evening, and when I came back, the computer wouldn't work anymore!  X(  This thing is driving me nuts.  I'm definitely gonna pick up either the Corsair or Winbond memory ASAP.  Thanks for the replys everyone!
BTW, I've had the hard drive by itself with the jumperless setting from the beginning.  Also, it always wants to be the primary drive, even when it's set to slave and attached at the slave connector on the IDE cable. ?(  I know that isn't a problem right now cause I just have it by itself on the cable.

  • DDR RAM 2GB in DC7100

    Hi!
    May I install to DC7100 SFF (PE218ET) BIOS 786C1 v.01.05  DDR RAM 2*2G Micron PC3200R-30331-z?
Maybe I need to upgrade BIOS?

    Hi:
The maximum amount of memory you can install in each memory slot is limited to 1 GB.
A BIOS update won't change that.
You can install 2 x 2 GB in a dc7600 even though the specs say it is not supported, but you can't on a dc7100.

  • RAM voltage readings with DMM vs. Software on X58 Pro-E

I almost fell over with shock when HWmonitor and Speedfan both reported my RAM voltage spiking over 3volts when running Prime95. When idling the voltage readings fall to about 0.6v and jump around during use.
I set my RAM voltage in BIOS to 1.5v but software doesn't report that voltage at all.
So I grabbed my DMM and measured the voltage on the Mobo directly and found that the voltage is in fact exactly 1.5v
How is it the software can show variations in voltage from 0.5 to 3.7 volts when it's ALWAYS 1.5v when measured directly from the board with a meter?
I measure from the silver tab (center leg) of what I'm sure is a kind of transistor or FET, which I know is v output.
How can I trust any of the other voltage readings then? Especially the CPU v.

Quote from: Jack on 14-July-11, 21:56:29
Neither one of these utilities is actually able to correctly monitor the actual memory voltage.  Just ignore those readings.  They are absolutely inaccurate no matter how you look at it (@3.7V you memory modules would probably simply vaporize and @0.6V your system would not be running anymore).  These readings are IMPOSSIBLE readings.
Don't trust any memory related voltage readings that you get from third party software applications.
    There you go.
That's what I figured, I wan't suspicious until my RAMv hit over 3.5v nearing 4v when stressing with Prime95, I couldn't understand how it was so high and still working.
I mean, all the voltage readings on speedfan show what look like normal values when I know full well they're not the ones I manually set in the BIOS. It's frustrating.
And yes they're all the latest releases and by BIOS is up to date with new firmware but NO my OS is still vista 64 SP1 with absolutely NO updates installed. Though I seriously doubt that'll change any voltage readings I get in speedfan.
I'm almost tempted to colder connections to all the voltage points on the Mobo for easy DMM connection. But I probably won't cos it's not worth the trouble.

  • Optimal BIOS setting for CAS 2-2-2 PC 2100 DDR RAM?

I have a 512 MB Mushkin PC 2100 DDR RAM with the following specifications: CAS 2-2-2 . Now, I am not sure what to set it at in BIOS to run at optimal CAS on my MSI K7D Master L .
I tried to find out what the 2-2-2 is as there are more than 3 settings in BIOS, but I could not find this anywhere.
I know that the first number is for the CAS Latency cycle, but what is the second and third? :
    - Trc cycle?
    - Trp cycle?
    - Trcd cycle?
    - Tras cycle?

  • K7T Turbo2 low RAM voltage problem?

    Hello
    I just purchased a K7T Turbo2 6330v5 mainboard.
I have a standard singlesided 256Mb/PC133 RAM module.
I installed FuzzyLogic 4 and it shows a RAM voltage of 2.5V,while I thought all PC133 chips needed 3.3V.........
I have a fresh Win98SE install and the computer keeps freezing up,usually happens either when it enters Windows or after about 15 minutes and I have a couple of programs running.
The BIOS shows 3.46V on the 3.3V supply.
All voltages are within range in the BIOS.
    any help appreciated
     ?(

Problem seems to be solved, and it wasn't the RAM voltage.
The onboard audio and/or drivers for that was causing the problem.

  • K7t266 Pro2 And Pc2700 Ddr Ram?

Does anybody here know if a k7t266 pro2 mobo will support pc2700 ddr ram?  COMPUSA Has a great deal on PNY right now--512mb pc2700 ddr for 50 bucks after rebates....As far as I have read, the documentation says pc1600 or pc2100.  But we all know that rules are meant to be broken.......
Thanks for any help I receive!!!
My specs are in my signature!

You can use pc2700 ram but without any benefit against pc2100, speed will be the same.
Be aware that it's normally no good idea to mix different ram type, this can cause trouble.
